[attr="class","smdbody"]ash had taken an almost immediate liking to oswald, and had managed to successfully forge a bond that could be considered both intimate and friendly in nature. of course, she had been the first to boldly coax him into such a relationship, making her intentions all too clear as soon as she had been granted the opportunity to do so. the male made for decent company, and it wasn't terribly difficult for her to decide to bring him along on the occasional venture when he was near enough to partake.
"you know," she said. "this is where i spent my first night after i left home."
she gestured toward nothing in particular as the tohjo falls came into view. they traveled at her pace, for her stride was far shorter than his own.
"my mawile had just hatched and i wanted to camp somewhere in this area. it's as pretty as i thought it'd be."
he was competent when it came to the art of holding a conversation - at least, from her perspective he was. ash would talk and he would listen as she proceeded to ramble and string sentences together in an almost nonsensical fashion.
'guess i've been on my own out here for a little too long,' she thought. 'i barely know how to talk anymore.'
then again, she had never been the most eloquent of speakers.
"how's the team coming along, oz?"

| It would probably be selling it short if one were to say that the day that Oswald had met Ash, the events that followed ruined whatever mood and been there. Luckily the two had managed to salvage what was there between them and hit it off rather well at a later time.
It wasn’t hard for me to say yes when it came to deciding as to whether or not he would have accompanied her today to the falls. It was an added bonus that he wanted to come to this place anyway, and with it her it was made all the better.
He was a bit jealous of her first night. While she was able to spend it out here in this beautiful surrounding he ended up spending it in a city, and after a day of dealing with people of the so called “high society”. Oswald would have traded it all in a heartbeat to get the view that Ash most likely got that night.
It was an unfortunate drawback of Oswald’s connections from his past life but it did come with its benefits, and he would always be grateful for that. But there were days it drove him crazy.
Oswald enjoyed listening to Ash. He could tell a bit that she hadn’t had someone to just talk to for a while now and found it endlessly adorable any time she would slip up and show a bit of awkwardness. To most she probably appeared as if she had this hard exterior but there was a softer side.
”Oh? My team? Well I recently added a new addition.” Oz pulled out the capsule that held Merlin, releasing the Eevee into his arms. The Eevee let out a yawn, looking around and taking in his surroundings. When he noticed Oz, he began to nuzzle the trainer, the Eevee being happy to see the brunette.
”Real friendly guy, if not a bit of a showoff and a troublemaker.” Oz laughed, petting the Eevee, taking special note to pet the Pokémon’s ears. ”Oh and I’ve got something to show you later. But, how about yourself? Any new developments I should know about? Reached a new stage on your road to become the best?” He smiled.

ash blinked down at the fuzzy little creature. it made for a familiar sight - its dark eyes and adorable assortment of features renown within johto. they made for high quality pets and were easy to train due to them typically boasting a manageable temperament. such a creature wasn't a 'must have' in her books, but she understood why they were so appealing to the majority.
'maybe i'll catch one, one day,' she thought.
there was a small chance of her discovering one in the wilds in the future, after all.
"i've gotten two more 'mons," she informed. "a dark-type and a flying-type. i'm still working on training them up so they suit my usual style of battle - but they'll get to where i want 'em soon enough."
the girl leaned against the male, moving to press their sides together so that she could properly examine the eevee within his arms.
"he's a handsome boy, isn't he?"
'just like his owner,' she thought, visibly amused by her assessment.
"how about we train for a bit? there are a lotta water-types around here - they'll make for ea-sy pickings."
she playfully nudged him with her hip before moving closer to the lake, a little hop present in her step before she halted before the sizeable body of water's edge. the sound of the waterfall nearly drowned out all else as it released a continuous dull roar.
"courier, come out!"
ash released her flying-type after a moment spent mulling over her options, the staraptor flapping his mighty wings as he hovered before his mistress.
"go find us some live targets to work with, alright?"
the staraptor rose higher before moving to glide across the water's shimmering surface. it required the pokemon a little over several minutes to snatch a magikarp in one claw, the creature flailing weakly within the bird's grasp. it was quickly deposited before the pair, the red fish flopping about uselessly upon the grass.
"go get another one, boy."
ash looked to her male counterpart and gestured toward the fish.
"it's all yours, ozzy," she said, urging the male to take advantage.
her staraptor would continue his hunt, and would eventually pluck up a shellos. this one would prove far more troublesome to handle than the last, and was terribly slippery, its slick form wriggling. courier would mercilessly fling it onto land, the power behind the throw enough to leave the shellos unconscious the moment it landed both awkwardly and harshly upon the ground with a soundly 'thump'.
"that was a lil too rough, boy," ash commented, shaking her head lightly from side to side.
her bird landed upon the ground, flicking his crest to the side as he released a disgruntled little huff.

| Merlin enjoyed being the center of attention and was delighted to have the attention of both his trainer and his friend, smiling brightly at the handsome comment. Oswald was going to have to be careful that he didn’t spoil this one too much.
Last thing he needed was for his head to get too big and having an attitude to match, as the Eevee could already act like a diva at times. ”You better be careful. Compliments like that go straight to his head.” Oz laughed, the comment making Merlin pout a bit despite it being very true.
”Two new mons? I’d love to meet them at some point.” And he was pretty sure he was going to be able to, and he was sure they were strong. At the comment about training Oz looked around and nodded, this place did look pretty decent for such a thing, definitely had a nice back drop for it as well.
”Sounds good to me, my team could use some training.” At this point Oz had placed the Eevee down, letting him walk alongside them. The two then watched as Ash let out of those new additions that she had mentioned earlier.
A Staraptor? Now that was certainly impressive, those things packed a lot of power, nothing to scoff at for sure. Oswald was tempted to use his special surprise but the opponent that was laid out for him was nothing more than a Magikarp, he’d feel kind of bad. Instead, Oswald let out his Pichu to do battle with the fish Pokémon.
”Alright little buddy. This should be pretty easy for you.” Oswald gestured to the karp in front of the Pichu, the mouse looking a bit confused as to why it was fighting such an easy nonmoving target.
The Pichu walked up to the Magikarp, poking it with its foot, the only response it got was the fish flopping up and down. Watts looked back to Oswald, not sure if it was right to attack the fish, didn’t seem like it could do much.
At least that’s what the Pichu thought in the moment until the Magikarp flopped on top of him. Watts let out a Thunder Shock to get the karp off of him but it kept flopping about on top of him. The Pichu kept letting electricity fly until the Magikarp stopped moving and fell off him.
Oswald could only sigh at the sight as his Pichu returned to his side, clearly exhausted by what just happened. The brunette looked over to Ash, watching as her Staraptor treated the Shellos like a ragdoll. This gave him flashbacks to the Luxray incident.
Lost in thought, Oswald pulled one of the pokeballs from his belt and looked down to it. He hadn’t used this one in battle really; he wondered how much the new power would be odd to him. Oswald was confident that there wouldn’t be any issues, this was his first Pokémon after all.

ash gestured toward the pair of defeated pokemon with a sweeping gesture before her gaze shifted to take in oswald. she caught a glimpse of his disapproval, and a small and notably amused smile took shape. she turned away to hide it, of course, fearing that her gleaming eyes and upturned lips would offend him.
'and they say women are sensitive.'
thankfully, such a quality didn't detract from his overall appeal. so she simply shrugged, and would return to observing as her bird grasped the magikarp with one claw and the shellos in the other.
"pichu's an interesting choice," she remarked, glancing at it.
they were a pathetically weak pokemon right out the gate, their saving grace being that their evolutionary forms could pack one hell of a punch once they were properly trained. while it was unlikely she'd capture one herself, she'd love nothing more than to have her luxray face off against a powerful raichu.
'now that would make for an entertaining match.'
"courier, get something else for us to fight on your way back."
the words were hollered as the staraptor took off, flapping his large wings so to fly over the body of water and return the fallen creatures to their respective homes.
"it shouldn't take him too long," ash said, directly addressing her male counterpart.
it took a little over fifteen minutes for this hunt, with the staraptor returning with another set of pokemon within his large talons.
"put 'em down gently."
they were gingerly deposited his prey before the pair, the water-type pokemon rolling and releasing disgruntled little noises.
"a spheal," ash drawled. "... and a slowpoke."
the brunette pursed her lips, visibly unimpressed by such a selection.
"they'll do, i guess. good job, boy. standby."
her flying-type moved off to the side and out of the way as ash released her luxray. she would glance at oswald once she did, gauging his expression before directing the feline to target the slowpoke.
"go for slowpoke, knight. use thunderbolt!"
the feline's eyes would flash once he was commanded before he released a lance of bright energy toward the water-type. the damage inflicted would be significant, but it would only leave the slowpoke dazed and not entirely fried by the single powerful move. her pokemon had only done enough to knock it out as opposed to permanently injuring the unfortunate beast.
"good! good, boy!"
ash hurried forward to praise the large cat, wrapping her arms 'round his neck and offering him an affectionate nuzzle. knight released a low purr, satisfied by the praise.

| This was possibly the oddest way Oswald has ever fought wild Pokémon before in his entire life. Scratch that, this was the weirdest way. Oswald shrugged it off for the most part; it had to be extremely confusing for the Pokémon that were being snatched up by the Staraptor. ”A choice I don’t regret making.” Oswald smiled, crouching down to pet the Pichu behind the ears and put away the pokeball in his hand. His eyes wandered over to Ash and her Staraptor, watching as she sent the bird away to go and find them more Pokémon to fight from the body of water that was nearby.
As they waited for the bird Pokémon to come back Oswald had taken out his journal and started to put pen to paper. Every now and then he’d glance over at Ash, a small smile growing on his face as he did so. When the bird came back Oswald put his journal away, taking note to come back to what he was working on later. The two Pokémon that would be their foes for this round were a spheal and a slowpoke. Not terribly powerful mons but they would make for good practice Oswald supposed. And their typings would be great for Watts.
”Alright Watts. It’s go time.” The Pichu let out a sigh, hoping that what happened last time wasn’t going to repeat itself. Oswald would look over to Ash, seeing that she let out her Luxray to do battle with one of the Pokémon before them. Watts looked in awe at the more powerful electric type, the look in his eyes screaming “I wanna be like that when I get older!” which made Oswald smile a bit. The last time he saw this Pokémon things didn’t end well for anyone, which was putting it lightly as most would probably say it was terrible.
Oswald wasn’t worried all that much; he remembered how Ash reacted to what happened. ”Alright, Watts. Focus on what’s going on in front of you.” Oswald laughed, this snapping the Pichu out of his trance and quickly getting him to change his focus onto the spheal in front of them. The Pokémon was confused but mostly it was angry and was going to take its anger out on the Pichu that approached it. It fired off a Water Gun attack which Watts luckily avoided and countered with a Thunder Shock. The Spheal tried again, and this time its attack managed to land, aggravating the Pichu.
Watts fired off another blast of electrical energy at the Spheal and despite the Spheal’s counteracts the Pichu didn’t let up. It wasn’t until the dual type was down that Watts ended his assault, letting out an annoyed huff at the Pokémon before returning to his trainer. ”Another one down, you’re on a roll.” The two shared a fist bump before Oz walked over to Ash and her Luxray, looking the Pokémon up and down. ”Well this looks like a big change of attitude.” He’d say as he walked over, smiling at the two. ”This would definitely be a great picture for my journal.”

[attr="class","smdbody"]knight blinked up curiously at the vaguely familiar human male, his rumbling purr coming to a gradual halt as he continued to eye the oswald up and down.
"a picture, huh?" ash said, quirking a brow.
the woman had noticed him scribbling in his book while they waited, and was very much curious about its contents. she wasn't much of a writer or even a reader herself, but she wouldn't knock the male down for enjoying such a dull hobby.
"after the..."
ash trailed off, her lips becoming pursed as the agonizingly fresh memories of the tower had resurfaced within the confines of her skull.
"... i've been teaching my 'mons restraint, ya know?"
her little group was growing remarkably fast, after all, and the girl was trying her best to adjust her training methods as they advanced.
"put 'em back, courier."
she gestured for the flying-type to pluck up the limp pokemon, but decided against requesting him to abduct another pair to take their place.
"things have been a bit crazy. it's like there's a lotta shit happening all at once for me."
ash was aware that she was souring the good mood, but couldn't bring herself to care. it was nice to get a few things off her chest, and oswald had already grown so use to her ramblings. additionally, she trusted him enough with her body - was it really all that much of a stretch to trust him with the occasional secret? the girl pressed closer, intending to lean against him and wrap her arms 'round his solid waist. his presence was a comfort that she relished, and she breathed in the scent of him as her eyes fell shut.
"this is nice."
the moment was ruined by her luxray, whom butted his head against the woman and attempted to wedge himself between the pair. ash released an amused little huff and bumped at the cat with her round hip.
"get a-way, knight."
ash would pull away from oswald with a disappointed sigh, deciding to give up in her attempt at intimacy due to knight's bid for attention. it was only then that she noticed a pair of pokemon approaching, their expressions remarkably severe despite their adorably soft appearance. unbeknownst to the young man and woman, they were less than pleased by the thorough beatings and mishandling of their peers whom occupied the lake.
"looks like they wanna fi - "
the marill would suddenly release a harsh bubblebeam that caused her luxray to wince, the attack having impacted the electric-type's middle.
"yup. definitely wanna fight. you know what to do, knight."
yet another lance of energy was shot in the marill's direction, this one just as potent as the last. and before it could topple over, the luxray would close the distance between himself and the water-type and harshly swat it into the lake with a paw.

 | Oswald rubbed the back of his head, an annoying feeling had come back to nag him as he noticed Ash’s trailing off. His gut was telling him to pursue this, he had many questions and things he wanted to talk to her about but his brain was telling him that now as not the time and that prying at it was only going to make matters worse.
Of course he understood all of this already but still, it was frustrating. For now he’d put it aside, there was no need to make matters more stressful than it needed to be.
Besides, the last thing he wanted to do was kill the mood. ”I can see! Surprised that we’re not having a conversation on how we like our Slowpoke tail cooked.” Oswald laughed, happy to see that the Luxray’s demeanor was much friendlier, to Ash at least, than it was before.
Having to wrestle with a Pokémon like Knight wasn’t going to be good for anyone involved but it did speak a lot to Ash’s growth as a trainer. It wasn’t as if Oswald had any doubts but seeing the progress firsthand was nice, she and her Pokémon were going to go far.
Oz hadn’t seen Ash in such a vulnerable state many times before, hell he wasn’t even sure he really had, but regardless it was nice that she trusted him enough to confide in him. As she wrapped her arms around him he returned the favor, pulling her closer.
”I’m always here for you, to help make things less crazy.” Oz smiled, giving Ash a quick and gentle kiss on her head. While meeting up for some training and sightseeing was nice taking it easy and relaxing would probably be much better for the both of him if not mainly for Ash.
”How about we take a break from battling. Take it easy a bit and do something a bit nicer.” And as soon as he says this Ash’s Luxray decided to butt in. What impeccable luck they had, there always had to be something to interrupt moments like these.
Oswald shook his head and let out a sigh that was quickly turned into a bit of a chuckle before he shrugged. At this point he’d just roll with the punches and make the best of the moment. Oswald’s attention was also turned to the Pokémon that were approaching, his focus on the Mudkip in particular.
Oswald quickly took out his journal and went to recording the encounter with the Hoenn native Pokémon. The Mudkip didn’t’ care too much for whatever it was Oswald was doing and attacked, blasting the male with a Water Gun. Watts jumped at the Mudkip, using a Thunder Shock attack as punishment for attacking his trainer. ”
Yeah I deserved that.” Oswald sighed as he picked himself up off the ground while Watts went for another Thunder Shock, avoiding an attack from the Mudkip. One last Thunder Shock and the Mudkip was down, Watts then ran over to Oswald, the Pichu happy with his victory.
”Glad I know you have my back, buddy.” The brunette petted the Pichu but as he did so the electric types buddy was enveloped in a bright light. His hand that was on top of Pichu’s head moved up as the Pichu’s body changed and grew. When the light faded away what was once a happy Pichu was now a Pikachu.
The newly evolved electric type let out that famous “Pika!” as he hopped onto Oswald. ”Look at you! All that hard work paid off huh?!” Oz laughed, Watts nuzzling his cheek up against his trainer’s as Oswald pet the Pikachu.
