[attr="class","smdbody"] she had nicked her brother's rod for the express purpose of fishing. the girl lacked her own, and didn't bother with investing her hard earned cash when kyle had one readily available.
'i forgot how boring this was, though.'
the rod was composed of mostly cheap material, and the lure was pokeball shaped. ash surmised that pokemon whom were the least bit intelligent would avoid it entirely. but she'd rather acquire a dimwitted creature that was was a capable battler as opposed to a smart one that was not. ash honestly didn't know what to expect, and felt as though she may not catch anything at all as the sun shifted its positioning above.
'i've been out here for an hour,' she thought, releasing a plaintive sigh.
at least the weather wasn't intolerable, and she had donned a straw hat to shield her from the worst of the sun's rays. the ground was surprisingly hard underneath her, and caused her to shift uncomfortably on occasion.
'i should have brought along a folded chair, or something.'
the last time the girl had been fishing was when she had just turned fifteen, and her family had decided to take a trip to the nearest lake. they had cooked up their catches, with their father handling the gutting portion with ash serving as his assistant as they sliced into the fish.
'i haven't had magikarp in a while,' she thought.
the shell of such a pokemon was tough, but the flesh of the water-type was surprisingly tender and quite delicious if cooked properly.
'too bad i didn't bring a knife along.'

"finally."
whatever it was, it had grasped the lure and was in the midst of fiercely tugging it. ash's grip upon the fishing rod would tighten because whatever was on the other end was a surprisingly strong creature.
"let's see what we got."
she stood and stepped back, forcing her arms up with a loud grunt of exertion. the girl would struggle a little, and was forced to strain the muscles in her arms. eventually, what could only be a feebas was forced out of the water and onto land. it would flop about uselessly, its mouth gaping wide.
"a feebas?"
'they taste terrible,' she thought, grimacing.
at least she thought they did - but her father considered them to be an 'acquired taste'. still, she had no desire to make a meal of the pokemon. instead, she would usher in her staraptor to get rid of it.
"can ya throw it back for me?"
the ugly thing was flailing like crazy, its expression one of panic as it moved about in a seemingly random pattern. ash eyed it with a hint of pity, her scowl apparent. her staraptor would join her in taking in the sight of the feebas before he made an attempt at grabbing the thing with his talons. but the pokemon would prove to be surprisingly powerful as it reacted to the predator's grab, managing to strike out against the bird by administering an astonishingly potent flail that caused the flying-type to stumble back.
"it's a fighter," ash remarked. "knock it out before you put it back, then."
courier eyed the fish, a displeased look pinching at his handsome features before he moved to do just that. he managed to secure the feebas's tail fin within his beak before tossing it up. once it was airborne, it would fly up and harshly ram into it with a 'take down', launching it in the general direction of the lake where it would sloppily land with a splash.

[attr="class","smdbody"] she hadn't expected to wrangle a magikarp out of the water - and holy shit was the thing big. it appeared to be twice as large as the usual ones she had come across in recent memory, and it was an absolute wonder how the cheaply made string of her rod hadn't snapped the moment she had harshly tugged the red fish out of the lake.
"ah!"
it landed upon the ground with a surprised utterance of its respective title, flopping about just as the feebas had only few short moments ago.
"don't move, courier."
ash raised her hand to halt the staraptor's approach as he moved with the intention of returning the creature to the water. he would maintain his distance as the girl stared at the water-type, her tongue flicking out to hungrily wet her lips.
"you'd make an amazing meal."
'i can't believe i forgot my knife.'
"ugh. if i can't eat you i'll just - "
the pokemon went eerily still in the span of a second, which caused ash's mouth to click shut in surprise. those pinprick eyes slowly shifted to meet her own, and ash frowned, feeling the atmosphere shift so suddenly that it caused her to grow somewhat worried.
'did it understand me?'
apparently, it had, because the magikarp moved, its form flopping to close the distance between itself and the unsuspecting brunette until it turned harshly to slam its fin against the girl's middle. it was a literal 'roundhouse kick' but only with a fin instead of a foot.
"...!"
ash was forcibly shoved into the waters by the single strike, and would unintentionally swallow down a mouthful of water. she choked, her limbs flailing as she broke past the lake's surface.
"courier! h-help!"
the magikarp reentered the waters, and ash's gaze would frantically shift as she gasped sharply in reaction and attempted to pinpoint the pokemon's location. thankfully, her staraptor pulled her from the waters in a timely manner, gently wrapping his talons 'round her arms as he freed her from the lake's grasp.
"t-thanks," she gasped.
they returned to solid ground, and ash would tremble, her form and clothing positively drenched. ash hugged herself, chattering her teeth as she witnessed the magikarp reemerge and glare pointedly at the woman and her bird, its expression remarkably severe.
"f-f-fucking fish," she spat.
with trembling hands, she grasped at her luxray's capsule and released him from its confines.
"electric t-terrain."
the luxray stamped his paw upon the ground, and electricity would spread and cling to the earth below his feet before gradually spreading. despite the earth's natural resistance to such energy, the luxray managed to make it stick with his power, the field altering move remaining to strengthen the electric-type moves within his arsenal. the magikarp, unusually bold, would propel itself from the waters, and manage to ram its large form into the feline's. it nearly knocked the cat off his paws, but he remained steady, baring his teeth in preparation for his mistress's following order.
"thunder fang!"
prongs of electricity manifested before knight's open maw before they would dig into the water-type's form. it released a strange gargling noise of pain as the potent energy shot through the entirety of its form.
"again!"
the fangs dug deeper, and the magikarp would spasm violently.
"take that, you big bitch!"
ash would spitefully produce a single capsule and toss it with the intent of securing the magikarp; entirely unwilling to allow it to slip back into the waters of its home.
