{  } route 45 was known for it's sprawling valley, as well as the rapids that ran through them. due to the dry nature of the valley, the fields of dry grass, and it's location near a cave of dragons, both wildfires and pokemon-created fires often occur here, drawing in the vast array of fire-type pokemon in the region. luckily, the river and the rock formations ensure the ecosystem doesn't self-destruct, resulting in a veritable haven for fire types. as it stood, lusamine was very much a believer in type advantage, but she still preferred pokemon of exceptional beauty, such as her confiscated milotic and clefable. battle wasn't as important to her, before: she'd built her power on others, not on her own brute force. ...but here, she was a trainer, not an aether president with a company and a criminal organization to fall back upon. she would need to keep up, in any way possible. a little research showed her that most professional trainers preferred a combination of the three basic types: fire, water, and grass. a good number of champions had powerful teams consisting of these. she knew of one particular person with a primarina, decidueye, and incineroar, and... well. she knew very well how successful that person was. she decided to follow all known examples and practical tests before her. she already had ideas for her water pokemon, so now, she'd decided to venture off to find the next piece of the puzzle-- ah. she'd just locked eyes with someone.

Route 45 had been the site of Azad's week long training plan. He initially came out to obtain one of the fire types that'd made themselves so prevalent in the arid area, but after about a full day of searching and battling the route served as an even better place to train his pokemon many of whom had a natural aversion to the assortment of burning pokemon that were found out in the fields. Just yesterday even Aros his closest ally and best friend managed to evolve into its fully evolved form something the pokemon had dreamed of for years now. With the evolution serving as the expedition’s climax Azad figured this particular journey was just about over. His skill as a trainer had increased exponentially over the past few days, and it felt like there was little left to accomplish in the fiery badlands, at least until the silver haired professor he remembered his initial purpose for venturing so deep into the route.
Moving through the dried spaces the researcher began to ponder what Pokémon would make a good addition to his team, it’d be a fire type of course but what best complimented the strengths and weaknesses of his team? Some thing offensive? defensive? Even more what was even feasibly available to him, despite recognizing the uselessness of his pondering the trainer would still think on the various possibilities eyes accidentally catching another trainer by pure happenstance
The man brushes a silver bang out of his eyes tying his hair back analyzing the woman, she seemed...familiar? Was she a model?
Before Azad can break the ice the woman speaks up implying a disinterest in battle, currently at least.
Emerald eyes flit away from the woman the man easing ever so slightly “...Glad we’re on the same page.” Before he could introduce himself two shadows would appear from the wild eliciting a second response from the trainer

{ } lusamine was thankful, at least, that the man didn't want to give her trouble. she was also thankful that her research did pay off: immediately, two fire-types had appeared. however, looking at them, they didn't seem to be satisfactory to her desires. for one... the blistering heat just made lusamine grunt in annoyance. drought, as useful an ability as it was for teams based on weather, simply did not agree with her beedrill and her water type. opening holes of weaknesses for herself... what was she, an amateur? on that note, lusamine decided to take the opportunity to train, fighting alongside this perfect stranger. "i'll take the vulpix. this sun is beginning to annoy me."with that, lusamine tossed her poke ball, revealing her newly caught wynaut. she knew for a fact that younger vulpix used special attacks more often, given ember's strength as a move. as such, wynaut should be able to counterattack... however, she'd been proven wrong. vulpix instead sped towards the psychic-type in a flash before delivering a quick tackle, before slipping away on the other side of wynaut. lusamine cursed her luck: it had quick attack, as well. "tch. charm."wynaut tried to brush off the attack by shaking itself, but instead fell on it's behind cutely and exaggeratedly, causing the vulpix to stumble and hesitate about attacking the cute baby pokemon. charm had worked: the hesitation would take away from the power of it's next quick attack. suddenly, the fox shook it's head and reared it's muzzle, inhaling as the air combusted around it's mouth. perfect.
"mirror coat!"
by the time the small flames hit wynaut, a reflective wall of energy would rebound the fire back at the vulpix, now converted into powerful psychic force. the vulpix was knocked out easily: wynaut and wobbuffet were masters at countering, after all. "Don't let me stop you." Emerald eyes flicker from the woman to the two intruders a hand reaching to the belt hidden beneath his sweater a single orb appearing in his hand.
His opponents are weak. Weaker than anything on his team by a large margin and because of such a disparity the trainer's efforts wane. Even in his release of the orb the silver-haired professor wouldn't bother to toss the ball with any kind of flair lobbing it underhand releasing the weakest pokemon on his team, still more than a match for the two enemies combined. Because there's no need for the man to focus on his own battle he'd instead focus on his partner's eyes still attempting to read the woman even more than the pokemon she wielded. Her face was definitely familiar, but as to how or where he'd seen the model Azad couldn't form any kind of picture.
Still uneasy, but understanding how little he could do about it the trainer simply called Kabuto forward to battle beady red eyes moving from the trainer to the Magby in question who'd just attempted to pelt the rock pokemon with small flames each bouncing off the Kabuto's shell. It's four times resistance to fire came in handy especially in routes so arid.
"Aqua Jet."
Encapsulating himself in water the rock type catapulted itself forward slamming into the fire type knocking it back into the brush from whence it came. Only now did the fire type realize it may have picked the wrong trainer to trifle with as it sluggishly pulled itself from the grass to the makeshift field. For a moment Azad pitied the wild pokemon as it attempted to stand beaten and bruised, When the pokemon decided to attack again a secondary ember attack slightly stronger than the last Azad was left without choice and gave the pokemon no quarter. "Follow it up." the silver-haired man wouldn't spell it out. Once again water surrounded the small stingray pokemon the aqua jet this time knocking the fire type out instantaneously.
With it's enemy unconscious the pokemon would scuttle to his trainer climbing atop the man's back its small claws clinging to the man's shirt. Beady eyes could be caught staring over the man's shoulder watching the woman and the vestiges of her own battle.
"For someone not looking for a fight you do it well enough. But I suppose those best suited to power are those who don't rush it."
The researcher crosses his arms expression neutral closing himself as he introduces himself. "Azad. Azad Slade."
"I'd offer a hand, but I'm not as clean as I'd like and it seems like you put a lot into your outfit. I'd hate to sully it."

{ } lusamine easily accepted the fact that azad wouldn't offer his hand. there were quite a few people who were very concerned about workplace sanitation and conduct concerning it, in aether, so this was nothing new to lusamine. instead, the woman opted to bow her head to him in acknowledgement, giving him the smile all politicians knew, loved, and hated. "my name is lusamine. i personally don't mind the stain, but if you so insist."lusamine hummed as the strong sunlight died down, returning the valley to it's normal arid state. still sunny, but not enough to affect her battles in any way she knew. however, she didn't observe the canine rushing at her from behind her. turning around far too late, the growlithe pounced at her before she could react, the aether president bringing up her arms an an attempt to defend herself. behind her, there was a flash of light. the pain of a dog's bite never came. lusamine lowered her hands to see the growlithe dazed, trying to shake it's head clear of what seemed to be a daze, or something disabling it's senses. but what could it-- "wobbuffet!"oh. the light of an evolution. lusamine was pleased with her wonderful fortune and smiled, not even missing a beat.
"in front, wobbuffet. hopefully, you've learnt counter..."
the growlithe snarled and backed off, trying to assess the prey by shooting ember right at wobbuffet's face. this was a mistake, as wobbuffet immediately replied with a mirror coat, slamming the dog into a nearby rock. growlithe struggled to get up, but then tried to run away, but-- it's shadow had two large, beady eyes. it held it back, like a spider catching a fly. scared out of it's mind, the fire-type shot another ember to try and hit wobbuffet once more and maybe dispel the unholy shadow. the ember was reflected back, and growlithe fainted.

The woman offers her name alongside a smile, but before the silver haired trainer can ruminate on either the wilds interrupt again. Before Azad's fight begins, however, the trainer manages to catch an evolution. The smaller wynaut in its need to protect the woman grew a number of sizes in its moment of crisis. Azad watched with mild interest prepared to intervene if the newly evolved pokemon couldn't handle the battle, but the trainer's worries weren't warranted in the slightest.
With his help not needed the man would turn his attention toward his own battle. A pokemon he'd come across far too many times in his travels across the region. In all honesty the man couldn't be bothered to pay attention to the baby horse pokemon, not when so many stronger variants had attacked him not only over the course of this training trip, but since entering the country as a whole. While the man was a scientist first and foremost he couldn't help but begin to to think he was fated to fight every flaming horse in the region before returning to Kalos.
Thankfully since this one is so young it falls quickly a single Aqua Jet forcing the fire type to crumple as a mirror coat across the field finishes the battle parallel to his own. He'd glance over the fallen fire type quickly before turning his attention back to Lusamine finally giving thought to the woman's name, knowing that without a doubt now he'd seen and heard of her somewhere before.
"I wonder, what's a celebrity doing so deep in the Johto wilderness?"

a blatant lie; she didn't decide it, it was decided for her. none of the decisions were hers, except maybe her efforts to compromise with interpol so that she wouldn't be trapped in their metaphorical cage. the thought of it sickened her. the memory of her pokemon being taken away... confiscated. tch. but lusamine just smiled and went on, spotting a third pokemon attacking from the grass. "hm. they always come in threes... excuse me for a bit, we can speak later."another ember came flying towards wobbuffet, and lusamine just sighed as the attack was, once more, converted to psychic energy and sent flying at cyndaquil. however, this time, the pokemon dodged, ducking beneath the attack before rushing at wobbuffet. oh? how interesting. the cyndaquil held itself like a soldier. perhaps it had a militaristic brood? or it spent time with fighting-types? just like a soldier, the tiny pokemon smoked lusamine out, forcing her to cover her mouth with her arm. wobbuffet, who didn't have a nose, simply carried on, anticipating the next attack.
"cgh... mirror coat if it's hot, counter if it impacts. i'm fairly sure a cyndaquil at this level has a basic moveset."in only a few moments, lusamine's words proved true. the tiny fire starter slammed into wobbuffet headfirst with a war cry. however, wobbuffet was specifically designed to take hits. it was also ten levels above the cyndaquil. the fire-type didn't stand a chance, and succumbed to a counter attack, sending it tumbling on the ground, unconscious. lusamine saw potential, however, and brought out a poke ball in an attempt to catch the cyndaquil. "this one is... eccentric, i suppose. i'm quite interested in what potential it has." lusamine noted, half to azad, half to nobody in particular. she returned her wobbuffet, before eyeing the path back to the city.
"in any case, how about you? what brings you here, mister...?"

Another hint as to who the woman was, a pokemon conservation effort in Alola it was the talk of the region some time ago, he didn't know the details concerning the foundation, but it had to deal with pokemon from other dimensions and that alone was more than enough to spark the man's interest. With her garb and the new found knowledge he could now recognize the woman not as a model but as Lusamine, the creator, president, and spokesperson for organization. She was known across the world for her beauty and organizational prowess having built the company from the ground up. Rumor had it the woman was old enough to be his mother but looking at her here, and now there was no way she was any older than twenty five. How exactly the woman had managed to build an empire and so close to his age was astounding, as someone who had his fairshare of resources as the son of a champion it left the young researcher feeling more than slightly inadequate. While she was off building a multimillion dollar corporation, what exactly had he been doing with his life, other than pouting and fighting for his father's attention?
"The life of a trai-"
Before he could finish the woman would speak up two more nuisances interrupting their conversation once again. Knowing who the woman was added a certain level of pressure when it came to battling, and he himself would focus more intently on her style as well. As a man who had just created his own organization he learn as much as he can from the mogul in every way he could emerald eyes glancing between his own pokemon and the Aether President.
"Aqua Jet, Ira." The rock type would move a bit more aggressively now in its attacks blasting itself forward from the umpteenth time today into its latest opponent, a torkoal just as young as the other pokemon he'd faced alongside the woman. It'd attempt to defend with withdraw, but the increase in power was just too strong. The tortoise pokemon constantly being pushed back by the rock types heavy offensive.
Ira having had enough of the annoying defense must have figured it was time to take it up a notch and so mid battle the pokemon would engulf itself in a warm white light it's body morphing and growing into something new entirely when the light fades what once scuttled would move on two legs tiny claws becoming full blades.
"Ah." The trainer would offer two claps to his pokemon a grin on his face now. "You've broken your limits today Ira, i'm proud of you, now finish this off. Night Slash!" There was pride in his order the prehistoric pokemon in a single movement would slash against the sedentary torkoal a malicious aura around its new scythes. In an instant the torkoal's head would reappear from it's shell dizzied and unconscious. The pokemon would release a low hiss crossing its new pair of scythes proud of its victory.
He wouldn't call the pokemon back patting the shellfish pokemon's head now truly observing the fossil pokemon. "You really exceed my expectations every time Ira, thank you." After a shared moment the trainer would then focus on his partner.
"If you're... not too busy Ms. President I have a camp setup not too far from here. I've spent the week training in the badlands and so it's become..comfortable for a traveler at least. It's not much to look at, but it's by the river and I can at least offer you a cup of coffee... or tea if you prefer." There was slight hesitance in his voice now, unsure if he'd overstepped his boundaries, but the man would take whatever he could from the former president in terms of wisdom at least.

{ } lusamine clapped politely as she witnessed a kabuto evolving into a kabutops. the transformation really was quite moving, wasn't it? to become bipedal, to grow limbs and become so much more dangerous than... well. the previous form. it reminded her of her beedrill, in a sense. or her milotic, before the incident. in any case, it was truly stunning. "i would happily accompany you. in all honesty, i, myself, was looking to make the trek from here to wakaba town. or, do you say new bark town? i'm still getting used to the dialect, in all honesty."in the meantime, the aether president mentally ran through her pokemon in her head. beedrill, granbull, wobbuffet... lunatone, her newly-traded axew (who replaced croconaw after the water-type simply refused to work with her, the darling), and now cyndaquil. similarly to croconaw, lusamine knew that cyndaquil had potential as a typhlosion, given the species' existence in alola, albeit only accessible through qr scanner lure technology. she wondered if cyndaquil would have burn up; she always did like toying with the idea of no typing. well, in any case, she returned to the conversation in the blink of an eye, having done sufficient mental strategies.
