" mmm." she hummed, her thirst sated after a moment dedicated toward simply gulping down the chilled water. ash went about filling her emptied water bottles next, restoring her formerly depleted supply of the precious liquid before tucking it back into the numerous pockets of her pack. her motions weren't as well-practiced as she liked them to be, but she was certain that everything about her journey would become a little bit easier with each passing day. [attr="class","smdbody"]she was in the midst of unpacking, having only just retrieved a few bits of dried wood that lay scattered some distance away from the pool of water. thankfully, it hadn't rained for a good while, so there was an ample amount of resources to be found. she had gathered it in a neat little pile before removing the tools she would need to start a fire. every item that had been stored in her pack served some purpose, each considered an invaluable tool that would make moments spent out in the wilderness that much easier.
"there we are," she murmured, having just produced the sparks needed to birth a small blaze.
her choice of wood had been a good one, for her flame eagerly gobbled up the fuel. the fire successfully chased away the encroaching shadows of late evening as it increased in size, and ash would peer into its flame with a relieved smile. she had feared it would prove difficult, but she had managed on her very first try.

the woman's gaze shifted until it settled upon the sight of a rattata, whom had taken an interest in the contents of her bag. the bold little creature was in the midst of digging itself into the opened pack, but ash reacted quickly and with a enraged shout. she boldly swatted at the creature, whom hissed and backpedaled in reaction to the violent action.
"go!"
she stood, her tone leaving little room for argument. but the normal-type merely bared its teeth, its gaze flitting between the human and her backpack before it lunged at the young female. ash jumped away, barely avoiding those snapping fangs as she hurriedly reach for a single pokeball that was mounted upon the belt she wore around her waist. the creature whom emerged would be her recently acquired mawile, the pokemon peering at the rodent with her crimson gaze.
"get rid of it," she instructed.
the steel-type heeded the command, her expression brightening considerably as she struck out at the feral creature. despite the mawile's youth and small size, it was an undeniably one-sided battle. the steel-type's defenses proved difficult to penetrate, and the normal-type's move pool was lacking in variety.
"maw," her mawile crooned, presently peering down at the now thoroughly incapacitated rodent.
"don't eat it," ash said. "just toss it somewhere."
the pokemon moved to obey, dutifully dragging the felled pokemon by the tail as she distanced herself from the small camp.

[attr="class","smdbody"]queen had had the misfortune of encountering the zubat as she relocated the limp form of the rattata. she hadn't been gentle with it, its form carelessly dragged across the forest floor as she moved. it was surprisingly hefty despite its smallish size, but the pokemon reasoned that it was perhaps due to its plump belly. this little creature had likely grown fat on the bounties of spring, the warm season introducing a plethora of good foods that suited its personal tastes.
"maw?"
she had just deposited the purple pokemon in a bit of brush, merciful enough to conceal it from potential predators whom would seek to take advantage of the tiny beast. the mawile had caught sight of something fluttering about as she did this, the curious creature's fangs glinting ominously in the fading light of the sun. it was mostly concealed, but the dual-type had successfully took notice of its constantly shifting form.
"mawile?" she murmured, squinting lightly.
queen's vision was ill-equipped to handle an excessive amount of darkness, so she sought to chase away the shadows by making use of the inherited move of 'misty terrain'. it caused beautiful mist that would successfully illuminate her immediate surroundings. the zubat was in the midst of approaching her as the field had been altered before it screeched with the promise of violence. distorted waves of power had been launched at the young fairy immediately afterward, but the terrain prevented it from thoroughly bewildering the pokemon.
the steel-type was forced to make use of the single physical move she was aware of, for 'fairy wind' had failed to inflict a decent amount of damage upon the smallish pokemon. the bat's usage of 'absorb' had also proved difficult to overcome despite her natural resistance to it, for the zubat would regain small quantities of health that it had previously lost. nonetheless, she would prove victorious, the dual-type's expression notably smug as she left the zubat where it had fallen, unwilling to move it as she had the defeated rattata.

[attr="class","smdbody"] she had set up camp in a timely manner, her mawile, having only just arrived, situating herself close to the fire. the dual-type, despite the flame serving as a personal weakness, was entranced by the flame. she crooned quietly, wavering in tandem with its bewildering dance. ash gestured toward the mon, warning the pokemon away from the source of heat.
"move, queen," she said. "you'll get burned if you're not careful."
the pokemon pouted, but obediently retreated a solid foot before plopping her rear onto the soft grass. the young woman would have her only other pokemon take leave of their respective capsule, allowing for the pair to settle around the fire and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
"i guess we'll go for a stew tonight."
she'd have to fill her small pot and bring its contents to a boil beforehand, though. so she retrieved the molded piece of steel and approached the pool of water, dipping it into its depths as she knelt. the sight of the surskit startled her somewhat, causing her to nearly drop her pot.
"shit!"
tightening her grip upon the now slick handles of the cookware, she blinked owlishly in the direction of the dual-type. the damnable little thing proved hostile, fearlessly casting bubbles in the woman's direction. ash shielded her face with the pot, but the rest of her body was exposed to the brunt of the attack.
"medi!"
her meditite, having detected her mistress's duress, moved to aid the young woman. queen wasn't far behind, but she allowed for the small fighter to handle this particular encounter. after all, she was useless within the water, far too hefty and awkwardly proportioned to swim properly.
"c-confusion," ash urged, grimacing lightly from the pain that had originated from the surskit's attack.
the pokemon obeyed, wielding its psychic power in an attempt to subdue the creature. unfortunately, the bug proved stubborn - formidable, even. they stood on mostly equal footing despite rook's varied arsenal, and the pokemon had very nearly found herself outmaneuvered as her wild counterpart sped about in a seemingly random pattern upon the water's surface.
"good job," ash praised, the bug having sunk below the water's surface immediately after entering a dazed state.
the young woman rubbed at her tender flesh, blotches of red presently marring her arms.
"let's get dinner ready."
