His laughter was sudden and loud, lips breaking wide in a grin as he stepped in to follow after his companion. His shoulders shook lightly from the outburst, his hand slipping from the door to let it fall quietly shut behind them. The sound of his laughter had quickly stolen the attention of the young woman working the counter, her eyes wide as she jumped a bit in her place, startled by the unexpected noise.[break][break]
It took a moment for it to die down, lips still curled into a humored smile as he sealed his mouth closed, regaining himself. A hand rose to show its palm toward the attendant in a casual, still wave of greeting. Suddenly he was radiating nothing more than warmth and subtle joy, his hand dropping back to his side as his gaze shift away from the woman. The attendant offered the pair an amused smile and a pinch of her brows at the joke she'd apparently missed, her hands folding neatly to clasp at her lap as Sloane strolled his way through the checkpoint to lead them both to the route waiting on the other side of the door ahead.[break][break]
❝ Kidnapped? ❞ he repeated, a soft chuckle rolling from the gentle upturn of his lips, brows drawn a bit higher over his eyes as they drew themselves together in humored disbelief. [break][break]
❝ Grayson, ❞ he began, checking over his shoulder toward his companion before finishing the thought. ❝ I believe you've been watching too many action flicks. ❞[break][break]
Sloane's voice was a playful tease as his steps slowed in his approach of the door. His hand wouldn't reach for the knob this time, friendly eyes watching Grayson in genuine curiosity as his steps finally came to their halt.[break][break]
His golden gaze searched that of the other man's bemusedly, quietly wondering what else might be going through the young man's head.

There were a few children that must have been on a pokemon journey and all of them were now staring directly at him. The woman at the counter, Gray himself, all eyes were on him. He was quite loud. Visibly so, too, as if he were expressing himself theatrically on purpose. 'Yeah, I can see why you think you're watched ' he thought, leading the two of them through the short corridor between routes.[break][break] Gray reached for the handle and pulled the door open for his compatriate, waiting patiently for him to pass through. Honestly, he was shocked Egan had a sense of humor. If he had one at all, Gray expected it to be twisted or sadistic, like that look in his eye when he fought off that Scyther from before. Still, he didn't think he'd be able to make Sloane laugh twice in one evening. At least not on purpose.[break][break] When Sloane suggested his metaphor was pure fallacy, it made him smirk. He wanted to roll his eyes. He'd been completely serious when he said it, and his experience was rooted in actual history, but whatever floated his boat. "I don't watch much TV, actually," he commented loosely. His life was more like an action movie than he cared to admit, but he didn't remember the name of the last film he saw. Maybe he should go see one soon. "So no one's trying to kidnap you?" he asked for clarification. His expression lit with a grateful smile as Gray kindly opened the door in his behalf, a faint nod given before he stepped out onto the route ahead. The path proved less traveled than the one near the great Kogane City, lined thick with trees and hampered by patches of tall grass. The breeze was growing warm with the approaching noon hour, sweetened by the fragrance of the ripe apricorns coloring the trees nearby as it swept over the peaceful route, the clear outline of the ancient city of Enju looming in the distance.[break][break]
Grayson's question was a funny one, by Sloane's opinion, the line of his lips set gently in an amused smiled as he continued forward, unworried.[break][break]
❝ What makes you think I haven't been already? ❞ he inquired warmly in reply, the humor in the thought reflected in his carefree tone.[break][break]
A dark chuckle slithered from his lips, the edges of his smile pulling higher as he gazed over the road in satisfaction.[break][break]❝ At the moment? ❞ he began in clarification. ❝ No. No one is trying to kidnap me. ❞[break][break]
His gaze slid toward Grayson, half-lidded and lit with amusement before pulling back toward the road, his attention being pulled to the side as a Drowzee wandered its way to the edge of the grass, its eyes locked toward the pair. The familiar ring of a Chimecho sounded nearby, though he doubted the pokémon would pose as much a threat.[break][break]
Blinking slowly his eyes set forward to ignore both pokémon, leaving any potential challenge to his designated protector. Sure enough, the Chimecho he'd heard jingling only an instant ago came to brush swiftly across his path, his steps falling to a halt to allow it to pass as it allowed itself to be carried happily along the wind. Its tail swayed with another ring of its musical body as it twirled and danced on the wind, paying no heed to the trainers simply passing by on their way to their next destination. The Drowzee, however, lift its trunk to the air, testing the trainer's scents on the wind as it worked to decipher which opponent it would challenge first.[break][break]
Sloane pressed onward with the Chimecho showing no signs of aggression, paying no mind to the Drowzee starting toward them.

Gray listened to Egan's response and nodded to the answer. It wasn't really an answer, it was dodging the question. Again. He decided to ask another, instead. "So you're being studied, then?" That was the same thing as being watched, right? Or maybe he was only being 'kept an eye on'. That didn't make sense, though. If it were the League, he'd probably just be taken into custody, which was about the same as being kidnapped. Mechanically, at least. [break][break] Grayson let himself wonder about the city of Enju where they were heading. He was curious what Sloane wanted to do there, but had little inkling that he would get a straight answer. No harm in asking, anyways. "What exactly are you going to Enju for, anyway?" he asked, trying to keep his tone polite. He knew that the town was famous for the Bell Tower, where a supposed legendary Pokemon resided. Normally a skeptic would find that hard to believe, but for some reason Gray allowed himself to think that the legends were real. That yes, there was a Pokemon that looked over mankind and created the three legendary dogs. It was only partially because he wanted one of the said dogs for himself.[break][break] It was then that Gray turned his attention to the Hypnosis Pokemon that now made it's way towards the duo. Gray followed in Sloane's lead in ignoring the Chimecho as he brought his fingers to his lips and let out a whistle. His Swablu came flying out from the trees, making it's way over to them. The Drowzee looked a little tough for his Swablu, but he'd make do. She was a resourceful one. "Sing, Swablu." Gray called.[break][break] Swablu chirped a beautiful tone towards the Drowzee who had previously looked rather hostile. Now, though, he seemed to be dozing off. Perfect. "Follow up with Peck, then Astonish." Astonish wasn't a move that he had Swablu use often, but it was perfect against a Psychic type like Drowzee. Swablu dove and pecked at the Drowzee a few times, the final hit seeming to wake him. He tried to react but Swablu followed up with her Astonish, letting out a distracting cry before she dealt a final blow to the Hypnosis Pokemon, making short work of him. Gray held out his arm to let the Cotton Bird Pokemon rest for a bit. She'd been flying for quite a while and deserved a small break. Whether or not Swablu was having a difficult time of Drowzee, Sloane didn't know, eyes remaining locked on the city steadily growing against the horizon even as its gentle lullaby sounded in his ears. He listened with little interest to the battle behind him, deciding to refrain from answering until he was certain the battle was complete. It was after the few seconds of silence following the young bird's Astonish that he checked back toward Grayson, ensuring that the pair had finished their work.[break][break]
❝ Perhaps. In a sense, ❞ he mused at the question of being studied, stressing his words as the assessment wasn't quite on the mark.[break][break]
His gaze drifted over the Swablu resting peacefully at his arm, giving it thoughtful analysis before turning back toward the thinly worn path ahead.[break][break]
❝ I'm headed to Enju for proper study of the Bell Tower, ❞ the scientist informed, stepping to round the apricorn tree rooted central in the path. [break][break]
❝ Now, ❞ he sounded as his feet fell still against the ground, sights set on the pair of ghosts lingering nearby. The pair appeared to be having some sort of conversation, cackling mischieviously between themselves as they rest under the shrinking shadow cast by the mass of trees alongside the road.[break][break]
❝ Isn't that something? ❞ he posed in a curious tone, his attention dropping toward his wrist as he drew his sleeve back from the face of his watch, activating it. The holographic display rose like a mist of light from its surface, the immaterial keyboard soon met with the brief tap of his fingertips. ❝ I don't think I've heard of ghost types in this area. Have you? ❞[break][break]
The mention of ghosts seem to steal both of the pair's attention from their conversation, both facing the Virus duo with growing, devilish grins. [break][break]
Sloane didn't bother to look up from his work, eyes still sifting without concern through the hovering screen of data as his hand shifted to press at the weapon waiting at his forearm. A threatening hum of electricity steadily grew louder the longer his hand lingered there, a violet light beginning to emanate from his sleeve as he seemed to consider making use of his whip once again.[break][break]
The show of possible danger was all it took to widen the empty, soulless stare of the Duskull, the ghost pokémon quickly skirting around its partner to disappear into the woods in order to avoid confrontation. The cowardice of its friend only steeled Shuppet's resolve.

He'd gotten her pretty young, so he was happy to help grow and mature her into the dragon-type he knew she'd become. Altaria would be a force to be reckoned with. Until then, though, she looked cute and she proved rather useful. Now on his shoulder, Gray continued onward with Egan for the last leg of their adventure between cities.[break][break] And then Egan had said the thing that was most certainly not helpful or an answer by any means. He must be doing it on purpose by now. Gray tried not to pay it any mind. They were almost finished, at least. Gray would rather just believe that his compatriot was a little bit bonkers and that made him feel better. He did it for himself, mainly, but there was a high probability that he was right on the money. Maybe, (probably), the man just had a troubled youth. Maybe he was even raised by a nanny instead of parents?[break][break] Gray peered up at the sillhoutte on the horizon, the Bell Tower that Sloane had brought up in the conversation. He was that scientist. The one that became an expert on a legedary Pokemon and that got kidnapped for it. The only difference was that Sloane was already part of the syndicate that was most likely to kidnap him.[break][break] Gray's gaze followed towards the two ghost Pokemon up ahead. He didn't pay much attention to which Pokemon were where outside of what the news had told him. He gave the question a shrug in response, and Swablu flew into action. "Sing." Swablu sung another sweet melody. For some reason, it didn't seem to have any effect. The Shuppet's shadows lurched towards Swablu and then shot for the sky to swipe at her. Swablu dodged most of them but the claws raked at her wings. "Mirror Move!" Gray called. The claws that used to fight her turned on their user, dropping to the ground below Swablu and then rising near the Shuppet, striking hard and fast. It was a move Gray was quite familiar with, and Ghost types were weak to Ghost-type moves. Shuppet flew in close towards Swablu, preparing another attack. "Astonish!" Gray called before he could reach her and Swablu raced for the Puppet Pokemon with a cry. Shuppet seemed to flinch at the cry and took the hit full frontal, falling to the ground and seemingly disappearing.[break][break]Turning his attention back to Sloane and rather than admit that he didn't pay much attention to Pokemon habitats he said simply, "It's news to me." Swablu flapped happily back over to Gray and landed upon his shoulder once more. She seemed pretty proud of her accomplishment. Using Mirror Move to copy Shadow Sneak was quick thinking on Gray's part, and Swablu followed in stride. Gray looked up towards their destination. It was coming on soon, and he was curious what kind of work Sloane had to do there. "Are you still going to need me at the tower?" he asked out of curiosity. He wondered if Sloane still abhored his presence or not. Satisfied enough by Duskull's departure Sloane started forward again, eyes glued to the information projected by the device at his wrist as he paid little heed to the pokémon whose sights still lingered on him and his travel companion. The direct command from the young man behind him and the familiar melody of his Swablu's hypnotic song was all the assurance he needed to release his hold on the weapon hidden under the fabric of his sleeve, its crackling hum fading to silence as the dangerous light dissipate completely with the removal of his hand from its surface.[break][break]
His gaze dropped to his feet as he made his way up the slope leading into the thicket of unruly grass obscuring their path, ensuring his steps until he made his way to level ground. His attention shifted back toward his hovering keyboard as he found stable footing, hand pressing over its face to set it back to sleep as he wade his way into the tall grass.[break][break]
❝ No, ❞ he answered flat, gaze rising to meet with the final checkpoint now none too far ahead of them. ❝ The next watch has already been scheduled. ❞[break][break]

His steps came to an unexpected halt as a chill bolt its way down his spine, the corners of his lips falling low as he struggled to place his foot firmly to the ground, his body struggling to follow his command. Dark brows locked over his eyes as he turned his golden gaze toward the eyes of the Gastly staring intently from the shadows of the grove lining the path, a brief flash at its side indicating that the other pokémon, Abra, had no interest in getting involved in their possible battle.

Sloane's hand came to rest in his pocket as he right his posture, fixing the Gastly with an irritable stare of disapproval. His fingers pressed themselves at the sides of Mimic's pokéball, though he'd allow for his companion to drop the wild pokémon before he made any move to call the creature out.
