look, the horns weren't just for show. it was a part of his brand. although cooper sometimes regretted naming his establishment 'the horned ranch', he justified the name as apt. he ran a breeding business after all. still, there was the occasional spraypainted "y" over the past tense that warranted correction time and time again, but he thought it to be a minor nuisance in the grand scheme of things.[break][break]
sighing, his broad chest heaving like asagi's waves, cooper reached down to ruffle mareep's staticky wool. the slight prickling sensation that greeted his fingertips stopped as daisy subdued her innate electricity. the day was clear. the grand expanse of the plains was teased by breezes, the blades of grass tussling back and forth like ruffled hairs.[break][break]
"think we'll find another cutie today?" cooper said.[break][break]
the mareep huffed, the bauble weighting its tail drawing back like a slingshot's hammock.[break][break]
"'course, you're the cutest one 'round here. no need to get all fussy." he smirked before drawing his hand up to his chin. his fingers brushed against the hairs crowning his jaw as he led his companion through the plains.[break][break]
the occasional mooing of miltanks from the surrounding farms stirred a thirst in his dry throat. he pulled a cool jug from his satchel, and uncorked the top by peeling back its metal handle. inside, the frothy white of fresh milk bathed the sides of the glass, leaving behind bubbles. a hearty gulp. and then another bob of the adam's apple. a satisfied grunt marked the end of his indulgence and after a messy wipe of his lips, cooper peered down at his mareep.[break][break]
"y'want some?"[break][break]
the mareep shook her head, instead opting to decapitate a flower from its neck.[break][break]
"well, fuck you too, daisy."[break][break]
he reached down to pat her head before scanning the perimeter once more.

[attr="class","runrunpost"] language was a fickle beast. sure, he could have made it more obvious that his perjorative was simply a joke—the kind shared between kindred spirits or high schoolers that barely understood the boundaries of jest and injury—but he didn't expect such a sensitive audience.[break][break] "hey buddy, you got the wrong idea." cooper stroked his chin, his eyes sliding to capture the hills of daisy's wool. "y'see, daisy and i? we're just... ah, forget it."[break][break] already off on the wrong foot. he'd pass on this one. it was too tiring to untangle the knots of misunderstanding, something entirely unlike the simple pleasure of grooming his companion's wool. the flower bed beckoned for the croagunk to retreat while the breeze shook its green limbs. but the croagunk's chivalry was blinding enough. with no apology came no mercy.[break][break] croagunk's webbed hand glowed purple, and cooper's discerning eye quickly alerted him to the danger. a "woah there" announced his swift evasion as he lifted his leg up and away.[break][break] "daisy, thunder wave" cooper regained his footing as his companion shot forward.[break][break] jumping fountains of electricity volleyed around before surging forth toward the frenetic frog. like manacles, the thunder wave held the pokémon in place. leftover sparks tickled the grassy plain around them as the croagunk cried out in frustration. the frog began to lift his arm, but the paralysis was a dramatic gravity.[break][break] "take down, daisy!" cooper quickly directed.[break][break] and the sheep complied. charging into the croagunk, the hard crest of her head slammed squarely onto its face. the frog tumbled backwards into the flower bed, the footing demolished by the sudden launch from stillness. the mareep cried out triumphantly. one black hand waved weakly from the flowers. like a white flag, it sailed in the breeze. cooper leaned down, rustled daisy's dizzied head.[break][break] "niiiicely done."[break][break]

[attr="class","runrunpost"] one empty moo moo milk jug later, cooper and daisy had navigated much of the surrounding plain with their leisurely stroll. on a day as beautiful this, it was easy to lose one's self in the soft scent of the nearby sea and the calming peace of sun. but cooper desired more. he would frantically deny the opposite, but within in his big frame, a yearning for change heaved alongside the breaths rumbling in his broad chest.[break][break] however, the rumbling was not exclusive to him. in the earth below, a trapinch gnawed its way to the source of their steps. daisy had already peered curiously at the slightest vibrations beneath her hooves, but before she could react, the orange dome of a trapinch interrupted the soil of their unmarked path. daisy recoiled, standing on her haunches as her hooves pawed at air and scattered dirt.[break][break] "lookee here!" cooper's eyes shined as he checked his sack for pokéballs. the glass chimed lightly as his fingers rummaged through. "i like what i see—daisy!"[break][break] picking upon cooper's surge of excitement, the wool pokémon had already sprung into a posture of battle. her tail's bulb glowed as she rustled her body enough for her growing wool to generate a visible current.[break][break] "careful! cotton guard, daisy!" cooper's lazy stance grew more rigid. his shoulders square and his knees bent slightly in anticipation, he readjusted his horns.[break][break] the energy of the impending battle already reached the trapinch's unhinging jaw. quickly, the mareep's wool spun itself thicker and before the trapinch's strong maw could clench into flesh, the voluminous wool marred the attack.[break][break] "alrighty now, daisy. y'know what to do;take 'em down!" cooper whistled as the mareep struck the trapinch off with her sturdy frame.[break][break] she cried out as tufts of wool were pulled out by the triangular teeth. on the wool, remnants of electricity still sparked to no effect in the ant pit pokémon's mouth.[break][break] "fall back, y'hear me? c'mere, daisy!" cooper gestured to behind the freshly dug hole as the trapinch reared its heavy head.[break][break] the trapinch rushed forward, bulldozing the foliage before him while the newly repositioned daisy breathed slow. in its hubris, the trapinch stubby legs forgot about the hole, causing the pokémon to trip awkwardly, its head plopping forward like a tipped over metal crane. without delay, daisy rammed him out of its pit with another take down and as it coursed through the air, cooper deftly threw a pursuing pokéball.[break][break]
