she feigns a pout of sympathy for the defeated challenger of her gym. he's not the first brash trainer to stomp in demanding a battle with nothing but a simple raticate or something similar. it's supposed to annoy her more than anything but she finds it amusing. there's not much else to do in the city anyways, so if her spare time is used to teach kids a lesson on battling, then she's more than happy to oblige.
if her gym challenges have been this one-sided, she wonders how the other gyms are. for a second, she debates challenging the others just so she knows what it's like. she'd do it for the experience. maybe in the foreseeable future, but not now. not when she's still living on the high victory gives her.
with a sigh, she recalls her gym pokemon and starts to take her leave. this particular beach that houses the gym's battlefield is empty of any sort of lighting. even when day fades and dusk takes over, the only sources of light are the torches stuck in the ground, spread across the battlefield. they remain lit for now but they'll soon fade as time passes.

[googlefont=Fira+Sans|Playfair+Display] [attr="class","firedand1"] MY DEAR, WE'RE -- a single step is taken and it's all that's needed for her foot to sink into the sand. she raises an eyebrow in response and tries to tug her foot out only to feel resistance, of all things. "what the fu—" she's cut off when the sand below her bursts and out from it explodes a carnivine, mouth snapping open and close repeatedly as if it's some maniacal kid's toy.
with it right in front of her, and given how ugly and scary-looking it is, she's left no choice but to let her reflexes take over. she throws a strong punch with her right hand right into its eye, temporarily blinding it and also sending it away. it drops backwards into the sand, and as it rolls around in the sand, clutching its eye in pain, she knows she has to put it out of its misery.
just because it gave her a mighty fright.
clenching her jaw, she exhales her frustrations and calls out her archeops. it's been a while, danu. how have you been?" she makes small talk with the dinosaur before taking a step back, then pointing at the carnivine. "here's your chance for a battle. you don't get a lot of those, so use it wisely." it's the sad truth behind training; she has to play favorites.
danu squawks her affirmation and shoots forward with an immediate WING ATTACK, keen on impressing her trainer that has so lovingly abandoned her for a while. carnivine recoils in pain but sends its VINE WHIP forward, chasing after danu as she flies. it catches up eventually, smacking her back downwards but she pulls up before hitting the ground, thankfully. fire tickles at her jaws as she exhales a DRAGON BREATH. blue flames curl across, scorching against the carnivine's rough skin.
