I'M CONSTANT LIKE THE SEASONS I'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN ― He was taller now. His hide was sleeker. He reflected the sun off his back like the surface of a lake. His presence even felt heaver, as if his every movement would rumble the earth below him. The iron snake pokemon; he was refined in density like a diamond beat in the dirt. There was no doubt her partner had become a force of nature. He changed so much.
It happened when the sun was directly above them. Her onix was training, throwing boulders and digging caverns. She hadn't known what would happen with the metal coat. After all, she hadn't the deep pokemon knowledge that others did.
The item was just supposed to help him get stronger. Perhaps it did. But Fran was shocked when her rough partner had suddenly transformed into a completely different thing. She was concerned, wondering if she had forced him to do something he wasn't ready for. So she kept silent, only looking on, measuring each new feature of the steelix.
He grumbled at her, twisting to view his own body. He was shiny and new. The towering stack of metal made a noise, only to suddenly lay down on the ground. He squirmed not unlike a crawling child. Fran approached slowly.
She placed a hand on the beast's head, as she used to do with her onix. The surface felt different, but the steelix still resonated the same calming vibe that he always had. The raven-haired woman wasn't sure why she was so anxious about this transformation; her pokemon had evolved before. This was just different. This was Detroit. Yet looking down on his head, catching his eyes as they sat in silence together, she knew he was all the same. Her mouth curled subtly. Her hand tenderly rubbed the bridge of the beast's face. Detroit closed his eyes. 306 words.

Lars was extremely surprised to see that Suijin had seemingly evolved overnight—in some kind of a parody of what happened to Leon and his Espeon, his own Marshtomp had evolved into a Swampert while the other was asleep! He then texted the Breeder about it, complete with all the emojis he could cram in before he ran out of room—and then set out towards Route 38. While he knew that this was still rather close to Ecruteak, he wanted to see if his now-Swampert could handle the power that came with the new form. Which was what they were doing right now. The mudfish accompanied him on his walk, and he then thought to send several pictures of him to his siblings back in Hoenn—and had promptly gotten several excited video messages from his sister along with a surprise appearance of his original Swampert in said video, beaming like a complete idiot. What was he doing out here? Well, he was just…wandering around. It wasn’t until he looked up from his private musings (he was actually re-watching the video message again) when a rather large shadow fell over the path he was currently traversing. Subtly taking out his Pokédex, he then read the information that flashed across the screen, before cautiously approaching the owner, who was giving the Steelix what appeared to be a head pat. “Nice Steelix you have there,” he began once he was close enough and hoping he didn’t catch the owner off-guard with his sudden appearance. His Swampert, on the other hand, looked up and promptly gaped at the gigantic Steel-type that was apparently rumbling in contentment. MADE BY ★MEULK

I'M CONSTANT LIKE THE SEASONS I'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN ― Even the way his body absorbeed the sun's heat was different now. With his rocky hide, the warmth was spread across the surface of his skin; the thermal massing was like a blanket. It was hotter now, more direct, and the shine of the sun beat back into the sky. This new body would take some getting used to, for the both of them.
The partners shared only a brief moment of resonance before a stranger happened upon them. Instead of moving along, he complimented Fran's beast. She couldn't be annoyed at that.
"Yeah, I guess so," she breathed, not yet turning away from Detroit. She was still a little mesmerized in the reflection of her steelix. As a matter of fact, she could see the reflection of the young man behind her. Though his form was rounded and misshapen in the pokemon's husk, she could discern his basic features; blonde, blue scarf, and taller than her, as usual. Beside him stood another creature, mouth gaping open. It was then that Fran turned to look at them with her own eyes.
She had never seen a swampert before; it's aesthetic was so different than her steelix's. It looked strong though, so the fighter took a slight interest. "Can we help you with something?" She asked in an almost accusative tone.
Before the young man could answer, a blue blur flew past them. The thing landed on Detroit's head with a crack, then floundered onto the ground. It was hard to believe that a fish would leap out of its pond to deliver a ZEN HEABUTT to a thing that has done no harm, and yet that is exactly what happen. Fran could only look down with an austere gaze. The whiscash slowly began flopping its way back to its pond.
Though this would have been a good time to test Detroit's new strength, there was another pokemon Fran had recently added to her team. She needed to see what he could do as well.
So the raven-haired woman plucked a single pokeball from her belt and threw it in the air. Out came the white shadow of a humanoid beast. The grovyle shook its body free of the device's light as his trainer caught it from the air. He looked down at the floundering pokemon, who had not yet taken notice of its new enemy. The grovyle was quick to deliver a LEAF BLADE attack. He sliced into the fish, but it hadn't ceased its retreat. Fran's pokemon raised his arm once more to cut into the whiscash, this time rendering the wild creature unable to move. Still, the grovyle tossed the fish back into its pond. There was no sense in letting it perish is such a pathetic way.
As the grass-type reared around the pond beyond, another creature began to stir. A red crawfish beast was heading right towards Fran's unsuspecting pokemon...

Thankfully, the Steelix’s owner heard his words, and he was about to answer her when they were set upon by two Pokémon. Although the female didn’t use said Steelix to take care of the Whiscash (that troll of a fish which Lars somewhat despised because of its typing) but instead had a Grovyle take care of the problem. Eyebrows going up slightly, he then saw that behind the Whiscash was a Crawdaunt, and in a few moments he’d pulled one of his Pokéballs and tossed it forward, before a Lucario appeared from the flash of red light, scoring a two-point landing some ways behind the woman. “Alpha, you know what to do,” he said in the Lucario’s direction, before the dual-type charged forward in a Force Palm attack, catching the pincers of the Crawdaunt before it could clamp down in a Night Slash attack. Once the one-two attack smacked the crustacean Pokémon and had driven it backwards, the Lucario then watched as the Crawdaunt braced himself with Protect—but he had one way around that. Closing the distance with a Quick Attack, he then used the last burst of speed to chain into a Feint attack, smashing through the balled-up defensive pose the crustacean had adapted, smacking it out of the tight circle it had wound itself up in; before the Lucario set his feet alight and aimed a Blaze Kick in the Crawdaunt’s face. Displeased with the sudden burst of flames that caught it off-guard, the Crawdaunt then tried another Night Slash attack—and while it had caught one of Lucario’s two legs, a sudden spinning motion combined with a Counter threw the Crawdaunt off him (and released the leg in the process). Undaunted, the crustacean Pokémon then released a Bubble Beam in its direction, which the Lucario avoided by taking a Quick Attack and dodging off to the side, before conjuring up a ball of auric energy and tossing an Aura Sphere attack at the other dual-type, driving it down and far away from where they stood. Now that the surprise attack had been diverted, Lars then spoke up again, “You were about to get snuck up on by that Crawdaunt. Anyway, I wanted to ask about him… how long did it take you to raise one up? He’s pretty massive for his species,” he began, hoping that they wouldn’t get interrupted this time. MADE BY ★MEULK

I'M CONSTANT LIKE THE SEASONS I'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN ― What a real piece of work. Not only was the crabby crustacean willing to attack a pokemon with its back turned, its dick ugly face was really pissing Fran off. There were only a handful of things more cowardly than sneaking up on an opponent. The damned crawdaunt was lucky the blonde haired man's pokemon reached it before Fran did...
The battle that ensued was filled with struggle. Fran assumed the role of a quiet witness, only taking mental snapshots of the brawl between the bipedal fighter and its creepy crawly adversary. After throwing the fish back into the waters with a crisp splash, her groyle inched away from the fight that no longer involved him. While stepping back, the clumsy grass-type tripped over a stone. He fell suddenly onto his ass, yelping in muted pain. Fran side-eyed him, and the beast shrunk under his trainer's gaze.
It had been a few moments before the lucario emerged victorious. The crawdaunt sure gave him a good fight, despite its sneaky nature. The grovyle, Montgomery, slunk back to his trainers side. He waved sheepishly to the steelix she leaned against. Detroit grumbled lazily in response.
At this point in her journey, it no longer surprised Fran that complete strangers wished to hold conversations with her. Even with all the practice she had with it, the situations never became more satisfying. Still, her interest was pricked after watching the young man's battle. Surely he knew what he was doing and was a trainer himself. She would entertain him for the time being as a professional courtesy.
"This guy," she patted Detroit on the snout playfully, "we've been partners for at least a few months now." Had all that time really passed? The steelix blinked listlessly, less than interested in the pleasantries his trainer was partaking in.
Fran crossed her arms across her chest, subtly revealing the toned muscles beneath her skin. She stared at the stranger with burning emerald eyes. "You been trainin' long yourself?" She called, simply curious as to the young man's skill level. Would he be worth challenging, or was he beneath her? If the latter were true, maybe this conversation wasn't worth her time after all...
Before the raven-haired woman could make such a judgement, she heard Monty gasp over her shoulder. When she looked over, she could see him clutching his chin between his claws, face scrunched in a contemplative arrangement. He was studying something. When she followed his gaze, Fran found herself looking at a big ass beaver with a goof goof face. What the hell was that?
Her pokedex soon scanned the bidoof, revealing its general stats and personality. Montgomery leaned over her shoulder, listening intently. He always had an eye for learning.
Pain was also a good teacher too, as the grovyle would soon learn. The bidoof would challenge him, lunging forward suddenly with teeth bared. But Monty was faster. He leaped out of the way, causing the enemy to eat dirt instead. Fran's pokemon turned on his heel with a surprising amount of grace, slicing back with a slick LEAF BLADE. The bidoof cried out, feeling a fresh cut on its back. The beast pushed itself back onto its feet. It led with a WATER GUN, which hardly effected the grass-type. Yet it was distracting enough to allow the bidoof to draw in close, clamping down on Montgomery with its powerful jaws. Fran's pokemon yelped through the pain of the BITE, becoming overwhelmed with the battle. He was panicking.
"Get your bearings; use leaf blade again!" His training called out to his aid. Monty snapped into focus under her rough command, lifting another might LEAF BLADE into his opponent's back. Finally, the bidoof released him, and fell to the ground. The grovyle began rubbing his arm, trying to sooth the pain...

“Been training for close to a decade now… he’s actually the son of my original Swampert, who’s all the way back home in Hoenn,” he began, gesturing downward to the Swampert, who’d taken a few moments to flex his arms a few moments in the lady’s direction. Behind him, the Lucario could only sigh and shake his head—Alpha was all too familiar with Suijin’s silly tendencies to show off at every ingle opportunity he got. “…and Alpha here thinks he’s a bit of an idiot. Can’t fault him for thinking that, though…” he added a few moments later, which caused the Lucario to chuckle—and the Swampert to look up at him before pulling a face. “What, Suijin. It’s true. Admit it…” he continued a few moments later, and the mudfish’s expression fell for a few moments before another bunch of wild Pokémon came to interrupt them. “Alpha, be careful around that one,” he warned the Lucario, who nodded before charging forward and setting his feet ablaze and opening with a Blaze Kick in the Breloom’s face. While the dual-type had gotten lucky and had avoided the first effects of the Breloom’s ability, the other dual-type responded in kind with a Mach Punch. “Meet it with a Force Palm!” he called out, and the Lucario matched the Breloom, punch for punch, with its own Force Palm one-two strike. Annoyed that its favorite attack had been repelled by this Lucario in front of her, the Breloom then pulled off a Mega Drain, slowly draining the energy from the Lucario—who’d countered it with another Blaze Kick straight to the face as he felt his energy being sapped away. “Might want to stay away from it, looks pretty dangerous! Switch it up to long-range!” he continued, and the Lucario then skidded backwards before conjuring up a sphere of auric energy before lobbing the Aura Sphere at the Breloom, who’d used Counter but had misjudged it entirely as the attack smacked it in the stomach, forcing the other dual-type backwards a few paces. Not wanting to be outdone, the Breloom then approached with a Headbutt attempt—only to get another Blaze Kick at the incoming attack. While it did hurt the Lucario’s right foot for a few moments, the Breloom then backed away a few moments before using Mach Punch again—met with another spinning Blaze Kick as it tried to connect its attack. Seeing that the Lucario was a tough customer, she then grumbled before trying another Mega Drain. “Get out of the way!” was all he could say next as the Lucario then barrel-rolled away, before lobbing another Aura Sphere at the Breloom, watching as it connected right to the face this time. After another approach and another round of Blaze Kick, the Breloom had been driven back; eventually the Lucario made his way back to where Lars and Suijin were, looking quite pleased with himself. “Anyway, after that interruption… I originally came from another region, currently here on some business with my family. But I imagine I’ll be here for a while, seeing as how complicated shit’s looking to be…” he added a few moments later. He wondered if the other smoked, or no? Maybe not… he thought to himself, and although the itch to smoke was very real he decided not to, just in case she didn’t like it. MADE BY ★MEULK

I'M CONSTANT LIKE THE SEASONS I'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN ― Was the swampert flexing...? The showy nature of the thick-skinned beast reminded Fran of her electabuzz; full of himself and always ready to tumble. Perhaps those two would get along. But this was only a brief chain of off-handed thoughts, soon interrupted by another sequence of battling. Both trainer's pokemon struggled against their strong opponents. Still, they managed to emerge victrious. Fran was glad she had come to this part of the woods. There were worthy opponents here.
She listened politely to the stranger, as was her nature. Still, his story didn't necessarily draw her interest. Fran was native to the region of Johto, and she held little curiosity for other areas. Johto was already big enough, and it was filled with enough strange characters to keep her occupied.
Her emerald hues flitted to the direction of the blonde. He seemed bothered by something. "Complicated?" She offered plainly. The steelix behind her grumbled softly, eyes staring off into space. "What's so complicated?" Could he be talking about this whole virus business? Things had been getting tangled on a political scale recently, but that had little to do with Fran. She kept her hands clean of the nonsense and saw things in a traditional manner. Criminals were criminals, and criminals must be punished. That's as complicated as it ever had to get. Still, maybe the man was talking about something else entirely.
He hadn't the chance to explain himself before another pair of wild beasts moved onto the small troupe. Montgomery, still by the pond's edge, was suddenly struck by a powerful stream of water. He fell onto his ass, able to collect himself only as the WATER GUN had ceased. Luckily it wasn't very effective. Fran mirrored her pokemon's gaze, looking upon the hard shell of a clampearl. She had never seen this species before. Nonetheless, it was an obvious water-type, which gave Fran's newest teammate an strong advantage.
Montgomery knew it too. Being the smartest member of his team, he realized his favor in the ensuing battle. The grovyle collected himself, pushing himself onto his clawed feet once more. He moved swiftly toward his enemy, overwhelming the clampearl with his speed. Leaving no time for a reaction, Montgomery delivered a LEAF BLADE across the glistening shell of the clampearl. The pokemon winced. It decided to take advantage of the close-combat nature their battle had taken on, and leaped from the water. The wild beast opened its body and CLAMPed down on the grovyle's leg. Montgomery cried out in pain, but this time, he kept his head about him. Just as before, he continued to deliver LEAF BLADE across the husk of his opponent, until the clampearl could no long fight. The beast fell of his leg and tumbled back into the water with a heavy splash.
Fran was pleased with what she saw. Montgomery was her newest teammate and was certainly unsure of himself, but what he lacked in confidence he made up in intelligence. He was quick to learn from his mistakes and only ever had to be told something once. He was a good addition. The grovyle began to rub his leg now as well, feeling the damage dealt to his body.
The midnight-haired woman gestured her beast to her side. Again, her eyes moved listlessly to the blonde stranger before her. "It's bothering me so I'll just let you know, I'm Fran," she introduced herself in a blunt manner. If they were to continue their conversation, as it had now taken a slightly more interesting turn, they should be able to address one another by name.

He had quite the same sentiment, to be honest. “Mine’s Lars,” he began, before a Cacnea came waddling into the nearby vicinity. While he was looking for one of them, there was something that was tipping him off that it wasn’t exactly like the one he had back home in Hoenn; and then nodded in his Lucario’s direction. “Feel free to practice with it, Alph,” he said in the dual-type’s direction—while the Swampert continued to flex in an attempt to catch his owner’s attention. He couldn’t help but smack one of his hands to his forehead before actually rolling his eyes behind it—just so Suijin wouldn’t see it—before dragging it slowly down his face. “Sui, are you showing off now?” he asked the other dual-type, before looking over at where the Lucario was currently in the middle of attempting to set it on fire with its Blaze Kick attack. On the other side of things, the Grass-type was trying to land a hit on the much-bigger Lucario with its Needle Arm attack, but the flames were preventing it from coming close. The dual-type then prepared a Counter attack just as the Grass-type retaliated with a Payback attack—due to the Lucario using Counter, the other attack was literally flung back into the Cacnea’s face. Stumbling over on its round form, the Grass-type then got up and attempted another Needle Arm, only to get thwarted again by another Blaze Kick from the dual-type. Seeing that it was outmatched, the Cacnea didn’t give up, but continued to fight on, using Growth to force itself to get slightly bigger; before coming in again with another Needle Arm attempt. The Lucario decided to thwart it with another Counter attack, forcing it backwards again. Closing the gap with a Quick Attack, the dual-type knocked it clear away from where they stood with a one-two Blaze Kick strike, the Grass-type squealing as its face had caught fire. “Not even a single sign of remorse, Alph?” he asked the Lucario once the other was close enough. Finally turning to Fran as well as the Steelix, he wondered if finding one would be worth the effort—well, with the way the other had raised their companion, it was damned colossal, to say the least.
