Shaking his leg violently to avoid the Turtwig from grabbing a hold of it, the sound of a familiar voice rang out in a teasing voice. The man had mocked him and his Turtwig and, for anyone else in the world, that would've earned the ire of a demon in Andrew. This particular person, however, was someone that Andrew didn't hate because of their particular history. Having received their starters at the same time, they were as close to rivals as could be. To the utter amazement and shock of Turtwig, his trainer actually spread a happy smile on his face. He had seen him grin angrily, and even arrogantly, but never happily. The last time they had seen one another was so long ago, he wondered if he had passed him in their journey yet.

"I thought he looked badass, and you chose Torchic! Hey, you won't trade with me now will you?" he joked with the man, winking at the Torchic that trotted around her owner's legs. Both of their pokemon had yet to evolve, so perhaps that spoke about their current levels.

As long as he wasn't surpassed by him, then there was nothing to fear - that's what his competitive nature told him. Although, having someone to fight in a heated battle for the title of Champion had a certain allure to it as well. Shaking off the thoughts, he amicably extended his fist in order to bump it with Ares. There weren't very many people that Andrew could say he liked, he could count them all on one hand, and the other man wasn't the type who easily pissed others off. When compared to the man with crimson locks, they were virtual opposites.

Before they could interact any further, Turtwig and Torchic had perked up with the approaching sounds of wild pokemon. A Shinx and Pichu made their presence known, immediately moving in for confrontation. Ever the bossy and quick decision maker, he called out to Ares as he ran toward the Shinx. "Hey, I'll take this Shinx so you can have the Pichu,"

Brute Root was already out, and he certainly didn't want to be outdone by Torchic, so he was eager for battle. As they stood off against the electric type, it released a roar in the form of Intimidate and lowered their attacking power.

"Brute Root, use Mega Drain!" he ordered, the Turtwig created a green orb of light that began to sap energy from the Shinx, though Turtwig had yet to be dealt any damage that needed healing.

Seeking to change that, Shinx charged forward and rammed into the Turtwig causing him to fly back. Rolling with the landing, Brute Root was ready with a Leech Seed. Shinx chose to ignore that, while it was flung into the air, and Charge his electrical powers. The seed latched onto its back before sprouting vines to latch on. Ingenuity must have ignited within its brain, cloaking itself in electricity with Spark before running forward and rushing forward once more. The attack itself wasn't very effective, but the leech seed had been burnt to a crisp before it was of much use.

"Alright now, you've given that fucker enough attention. Bite, and then finish it with Leaf Storm."

He wasn't angry, yet by some miracle, but he was certainly attempting to make sure he beat his friend. Trilling in delight, Turtwig began trotting forward and opened his jaws in preparation for a big Bite on the Shinx. Not wanting him to succeed, the Shinx charged forward with Tackle and bashed the Turtwig away, only getting nicked in the process. Forgetting the initial attack, he gathered leaves around him in a tornado and surrounded the Shinx as it cut and ripped at the poor pokemon. Falling to the ground with a thud, the Shinx had fainted.

"How're we doing over there?" he inquired, curiously.

As aforementioned, it was common to see Andrew wearing a scowl and nothing more due to his irritatable demeanor. However, when he heard his friend speak in delight upon the release of his Dratini he couldn't help himself. Slowly turning toward Ares, an immensely smug smile all the way to both corners of his mouth, he proceeded to brag.

"Ohoho...HO! Did you notice one of my new additions? Handsome little dude, ain't he? Eh? Ain't he?!"

So caught up in his bragging, it took him a moment to realize that he had complimented the Dratini so openly in front of him. Until this moment, he hadn't even used the Dratini so there was no way he had gotten accustomed to the gruff man. Bahamut's eyes sparkled like gems upon being praised, twitching with delight. Internally, Andrew cursed at himself for such a thoughtless action. Now he would expect more "kindness" from the man. Tossing the Poke Ball at his side, the Dratini was returned to his confines.

"See what you made me do, now it'll think I'm nice..." he started off yelling before the rest came out as a mumble.

The Torchic and Ares had a much better chemistry than Andrew and Brute Root had, though Andrew had advanced a bit more on his journey. That fact alone irritated him, the Torchic receiving commands and using her own judgment in tandem without going to the point of disobeying. Jealousy and anger welled up within him until he turned around to face his Turtwig...who was no more. Wrapped in a blue energy, Brute Root's body began to grow before the energy dissipated and revealed his new form. Turtwig had evolved into Grotle!

"Woah! You're not a little shit anymore, huh, nice," he offhandedly complimented Brute Root who, apparently, had gained a more patient attitude. Andrew began to wonder if evolution was like maturing for Pokemon, but dropped the thoughts when they were approached by a final set of enemies. A voltorb? The man's crimson locks shook as he practically vibrated with excitement. He had always wanted to beat down the most famous known user of Self-Destruct. The man wanted nothing more than to toy with it utilizing his now ground type pokemon, but he had leveled up enough for the day. Returning the turtle to his ball, he swapped him out in favor of Houndour.

Erupting from the ball in flames, he began to howl excitedly, running back to Andrew and licking his face. Quicky pushing him down and away, he directed him to combat while angrily wiping the drool off of his face. He was another new addition, so Andrew had no idea that the dog was so...affectionate.

"Don't ever do that again. And use Ember," he demanded, the puppy cheering happily, not caring or hearing the initial portion of the imperative, before spewing forth a flame that enveloped the poke ball-like pokemon. Becoming angry at the attack, it released a sonic boom that exploded the flames and sent the Houndour reeling back. It was certainly interesting, though, seeing such fierce resistance from a creature with no arms or legs.

Charging up electrical energy, Houndour released a poisonous miasma in the area around the Voltorb. Not only damaging the Voltorb, it succeeded in poisoning it much to the man's relief. Houndour was severely lacking in pure attack power, he had to make up for it in other manners such as agility and technical skill.

Emerging like a bullet from the plume of smoke, he was cloaked in electrical energy dealing increased damage to the fire dog who roared in pain as it slammed against the tree. Poisonous bubbles emerging from Voltorb indicated that he was taking damage from poison. Not ready to give up on Cerberus just yet, he waited to see if he would stand on his own.

"Guess, you're not completely useless now are ya?" he asked, grinning when he picked himself up and released an angry howl.

"That's more like it, use Smog!"

Releasing the gas from his throat, Houndour torched the poor Voltorb who began to spin in preparation for Rollout. Not willing to allow it to hit, the Houndour released even more poisonous gas that halted the advance. Voltorb was tenacious as well, increasing the speed to overpower the gas as it broke through and smashed into Houndour.

As it rolled into the air, Houndour utilized Ember once more and, with the accumulated poison damage, it fell to the ground and ceased movement.
