Aria kept her eye on Mareep, studying his habits. She noted the way he stopped at irregular intervals to check his surroundings. Once, though, he turned his head to a point in the trees like he had noticed something. Aria directed her eyes upward but didn't see what he saw. She stopped nearby and watched, "What're ya looking at?" she asked, not trying to be quiet in the slightest (though she wasn't a loud girl to begin with). A few seconds later, a blue blur burst from the leaves.

Mareep straightened and glared at the bird pokemon as it flew overhead, almost directly above them. Aria was shocked for a moment and then quickly gained her composure. "Alright, Mareep!" she called. "Let's show`em what we got! Use Thunder Wave!" Aria tried to make her way across the clearing opposite the bird pokemon's position. She wanted to keep an eye on it and pay attention to its movements. Mareep let out a soft cry as electricity shot through the air at the bird Pokemon, barely missing it. The blue blur swerved down and attacked at Mareep.

"Now! Tackle it!" she called, watching the bird's movements. It seemed to peck again before stiffening, making Aria smile. Thunder Wave had missed, but Static had pulled through! Mareep charged quickly, knocking the bird to the ground before backing up some and attacking again. After the two hits, the Pokemon seemed to be defeated. "Great job, Mareep!" she called, careful not to give him too much physical attention. Mareep's tail glowed brighter than before, showing that he was a bit more charged up (and probably a bit excited, too!)

Got it! One wild pokemon down! Aria was familiar with a lot of Kanto pokemon, but only knew bits and pieces of the other ones. The bird she just fought? She had no idea what it was.

"Oh. Wait. Duuh." she reached into her pocket and felt for her Pokedex. She pulled out a what was definitely not a traditional dex. It was a small, thin rectangle that flipped open like a phone. It was very compact, and with the camera pointed at the blue bird pokemon, it sprung to life.

"Tailow, the Tiny Swallow Pokemon," Aria said as she read down the page. She wondered how many Flying type Pokemon weren't Normal type, too, as those are the only she ever ran into. She put the plastic electronic back into her pocket and continued onward. It wasn't long that she neared another flying pokemon resting in the trees. She wasn't going to let this one get the better of them.

"Thunder Wave!" she ordered, Mareep leaping into action. An electric charge emenated from his wool and towards the seemingly one-legged bird, and it's body shook from the paralysis.

"Direct hit!" Aria noted, the bird pokemon turning to the noise and leaping from its branch. It's beak opened wide and let out the cutest little growl. To Mareep, it was really confusing. Aria, though, saw through the flying pokemon's guise!

"It's trying to trick you! Don't fall for it!" And just then the flying pokemon rammed itself into Mareep. Mareep was launched a bit into the air and then landed in a roll, quick to his feet.

"Tackle!" Aria called, Mareep wasting no time charging and slamming into the bird pokemon. It fell to the ground as Aria pulled out her Pokedex again, pointing it straight ahead. The pokemon (HootHoot, she learned) tried to move but seemed stuck in place. Mareep charged the paralyzed Pokemon again, knocking it away one final time.

"You did it!" Mareep's tail brightened at his victory, and Aria fist pumped into the sky. Another victory for the duo! Aria was beginning to like battles more than she expected to. 'Maybe,' she thought, 'I just like to make Mareep happy.' And that was fine, too. Mareep and her were on their way to win many more battles. She was sure of it.

Mareep looked up to Aria with a proud gleam in his eyes, his light bulb tail wagging behind him. He jumped into the air in excitement and then ran circles around his trainer and then onward the route's path. He couldn't wait for his next battle to come.

"Wait up! Aria called to the wool pokemon, following suit. She giggled a bit as she ran, watching as Mareep's coat bounced with each step. Aria kept her eyes out for any Pokemon that might surprise them, and it didn't take long for them to find one.

"Wait," she called out to Mareep, who evidently had nto seen the Pokemon overhead. Aria pointed, and where it lead Mareep's gaze was a spot up in the trees where another Flying pokemon stared back at them. It didn't seem it would be easy for Mareep to hit from on the ground. The flying pokemon let out a cute growl that Aria recognized as a battle move.

"Mareep, we'll have to hit it with a Thunder Shock!" Aria reached for her Pokedex after her command, pointing it at the wild pokemon to get a better idea of what it was. Swablu was the Cotton Bird Pokemon, and something about that made Aria want it. Something about having a cotton pokemon and a wool pokemon on the same team made her smile.

Mareep's face narrowed on the flying pokemon and the energy in his wool charged about. The light on his tail surged slightly before Mareep let out a loud cry. With it, his wool glowed and an electric attack raced into the sky and then down onto the Swablu, a direct hit!

"Way to goooo!" she said with enthusiasm, forgetting for a moment they were in the middle of a battle. Mareep's newest move was a beautiful one to watch. Racing electricity across the sky from one Pokemon to the next! Aria reached down to her belt and grabbed one of the small red spheres.

"Now, Thunder Wave!" she called. The Swablu had taken quite the hit from the electric attack; it was super effective. But she still had some fight left in her. She raced over towards Mareep and landed her beak in his side. Mareep didn't look to great but he shook it off, focused the charged energy in his wool, and aimed it again at the flying Pokemon.

The move hit and Swablu's wings flexed periodically as yellow energy surged through them. Aria tossed the pokeball at the cotton bird pokemon and hoped for the best. "Come on..." Aria chanted, crossing her fingers on both hands.
