without ceremony, ash pulled and lightly tugged at the luxray's furry lips, revealing his pointed ivories and healthy pink gums to her searching gaze. his impressive rows of white never failed to impress her, for if he desired to, he could easily tear the young woman apart with them at a moment's notice.
"that'd be a helluva way to die, though," she commented, pulling away and wiping away the feline's saliva upon her denim shorts. "but you'd never hurt me, right?"
the electric-type's tail swayed lazily from side to side as he merely blinked at her in response. ash released a quiet chuckle and shook her head from side to side, genuinely amused.
"i'll just try not to piss you off then."
she ran her fingers through his mane, peering down at the lake's edge with an eager look presently fixed upon her face. ash had favored such a location, for it had offered her luxray a plethora of prey. his typing coupled by his lack of aversion to the waters made such a large area a near perfect place to train him.
'we're kinda stuck on land, though. he and i can't go too far out looking for a fight without the risk of being drowned.'
"go see if you can't pull something out," ash urged.
the feline blinked and then stepped closer to the immense body of water before squinting his eyes and peering into its blue depths.

the luxray had grown still after a brief period of time had passed, and ash had simply stood by, peering down at the dim screen of her phone so that the time would pass by a little faster. her head would jerk up and her eyes would grow round in surprise as her pokemon roughly swatted at the water. the form of a poliwag would be thrust from it, a surprised little cry escaping its plump lips as it found itself airborne.
"nice one, boy!"
its tail was bit into the moment it passed the electric-type's face before it was promptly slung farther onto land. it rolled, releasing a pained squeak as its body impacted the ground with a soft thud.
"alright," ash said, tucking her phone into her pocket. "let's fight it."
the smallish water-type would stand shakily upon its short limbs, squinting its eyes in the direction of the feline whom was now in the midst of approaching it. it released an utterance edged with fright before it released a surprisingly potent water-based move; a 'hydro pump'.
"whoa."
ash couldn't help but be impressed by the display, for the pressurized blast was enough to send evenher luxray into the lake. he hadn't expected the move nor the force behind it, the poliwag's attack successfully pushing the cat off his paws in a near instant.
"that was a pretty good hit," she remarked, gaze settling upon the poliwag.
her luxray would force himself out of the cold lake, spitting and snorting out water that had managed to slip into his lungs and belly. once he was freed of its grasp, he would lunge himself at the little beast, retaliating with an overabundance of force. 'thunder fang' would be utilized, the large pokemon making use of the prongs of electricity that had appeared before his maw and his very own teeth. the poliwag wiggled and writhed within the electric-type's grasp, managing to launch a 'bubble' into the luxray's face. the pain that resulted caused the cat to tightly shut his eyes and bite harder.
"it's done - it's done!"
ash thrust her finger in the lake's direction.
"toss it!"
knight happily disposed of the limp poliwag before pawing at his own eyes with a discontented grumble.
"lemme look."
once they were opened she noticed the strangely colored orbs were slightly irritated, and his vision likely to be bleary.

[attr="class","smdbody"] ash always considered the lotad line to be aesthetically unremarkable yet chocked full of potential. something about them in general failed to attract her attention despite them being well-equipped to handle a considerable few once trained properly.
"you look pretty strong, actually."
the lombre merely blinked up at the woman, having only just crossed the paths of the brunette and the luxray a few moments ago.
"i think imma see just how strong you actually are."
her luxray was still recovering from the last battle, his form pressed against the ground as took a short break from their training session.
'i guess i'll use someone else for this.'
"hmm."
ash considered her options, and considered them quickly, aware that the dual-type before her could move on if she failed to initiate a battle.
"queen! come out!"
the dual-type released a quiet utterance of her species's respective title once summoned, a curious gleam in her eye as she eyed the lombre before her.
"you ready for a fight, girl?"
"maw-ile!"
queen turned her back, her maw-like appendage splitting open and releasing a dull roar. the lombre trembled, a nervous expression now settling across its features as it warily eyed the oddly-shaped horn.
"start off with a crunch!"
the distance was closed between the pair in a few short moments, with queen making use of her hefty maw to deliver the fierce bite. lombre released a cry of pain and surprise, his paws clutching at the edges of the maw in an attempt to spread them open.
"m-maw!"
a 'razor leaf' would follow the futile attempt, the sharpened leaves cutting into both her and the inside of her appendage. it managed to successfully slice into the soft flesh contained within, causing queen to immediately release her grip upon the pokemon.
"fairy wind!"
the conjured wind would fly toward her chosen foe, forcing it away from her. the lombre responded with a hastily executed 'bubblebeam', which nearly knocked the mawile off her feet.
"another!"
this particular attack was enough to dwindle the lombre down to nothing, the wild dual-type falling limply upon the ground after being roughly battered by the conjured strike.
"that's my girl," ash praised, satisfied.

the luxray turned his head away, remaining in his position of rest. his unwillingness to partake in battle for the remainder of the day had become clear and ash couldn't help but release an exasperated sigh.
"one bubble to the face and you're just done?"
he cast her a pointed look and rumbled.
"okay - and the whole being hit by the hydro pump and pushed into the water thing - i get it."
her mawile giggled softly, observing the pair with partially lidded eyes. ash proceeded to roll her own brown orbs, slightly irritated by both her feline's and fairy's behavior.
"guess i'll just stick with you, queen. you up for it, girl?"
queen happily clapped her paws together in reaction to the spoken offer and nodded. pleased by the steel-type's eagerness, ash would offer her a broad grin before looking to her petulant feline.
"you're going back into your pokeball, knight. take a nap or something."
the luxray merely snorted in reply before promptly being reabsorbed into his capsule.
"let's go find you something to fight, queen."
"maw!"
ash and queen would encounter a solitary spheal after dedicating a solid half hour toward exploring the lake. they took care to keep away from its edge, unwilling to slip upon the slippery grasses that surrounded it in abundance. the plump dual-type was found resting within a notably long patch, its form partially concealed by the thickly clumped greenery.
"there's one, girl," ash said, lowering her voice and pointing out the water-type's location. "let's catch it off guard, alright?"

ash was reminded of the first time the pokemon had been exposed to such an attack, and she couldn't help but chuckle. it wasn't long before the mawile stood before her foe that had been rendered unconsciousness, the female breathing heavily with pink-tinted eyes.
"good girl," the brunette said, her grin wide.
