{  } Heading into the cavern with nothing to him but his clothes and pokeballs holstered at the waist, Derek was quick to take notice of another trainer's silhouette in the distance. He'd come all this way to train his pokemon, and perhaps capture one along the way. Hoping they were of a similar mind, Derek approached and spoke out to them; but not too loudly. He didn't want to disturb the natural residents of this place, lest he cause them all to come and attack him, who had caused the disturbance... "Hey you...!" He sort of yelled with a strained voice suggesting he was trying to whisper. Closing in on them, Derek was able to make out their long hair and dark complexion. It was a girl, right? He couldn't exactly tell without his Charmander's tail lighting the way. Perhaps he should've brought Zeke out before entering the cave... "Do you happen to be a trainer?" He started. "Looking for pokemon, perhaps?" Leaving his inquiries at that, Derek allowed them time to answer with hopes he wasn't intruding on them or anything. MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW |

it wasn't her first time venturing into mount suribachi. she had frequented often when she was younger; it was one of the many sites where she'd be taken to train. despite having spent a good amount of time in the mountain, and having developed a better sense of vision in the dark, the mountain proved a formidable foe. no matter how much she squinted, or how much she strained her eyes, she couldn't see much.
ava's pride had stopped her from bringing some form of light source to help guide the way. she felt like she didn't need it, given her training in the mountain. but she had forgotten how long it had been since she was last here. frustrated, mostly at herself, she clicked her tongue as she walked; brows furrowed but under the cover of darkness, looked normal.
it smelled an awful lot like the ocean, which made little to no sense since they weren't near one. the river had to flow out somewhere, but she doubted such a small source would provide such a strong scent. while she couldn't rely on her sense of sight, her ears worked fine. better than fine, actually. she always thought she had a good sense of hearing. unfortunately, that didn't translate to being a good listener.
she kept her ears focused, listening to any sound that might cause trouble. then, a voice called out to her; though surprised, she processed his words immediately. she stopped in her tracks and turned, waiting for him to approach. "yes and no." she was quick to respond. she gave him a friendly smile, out of courtesy.
"i'm sightseeing. you?" just as she spoke, she heard rumbling coming from behind them. she reached a hand down to her waist, plucking off a sole pokeball. she held it loosely in her hands as her eyes scanned the vicinity. she was ready.

{ } Glad that they had been polite enough to stop and answer, Derek was about to respond to their question before a duo of pokemon had suddenly appeared, presenting them with a challenge before they could trek any further into the dark cavern. 'Speak of the Devil and he shall appear...' Is what Derek thought to himself as he gripped a pokeball from it's holster, the same as the other person he was...accompanying, was it? No matter. Allowing his Gible, Kseniya, to come out from that wretched confined space, Derek pointed to the large Onix that he'd already deemed as her opponent. "Use Earth Power on that thing, but be careful about it! We're not the only ones here" With her scarred eye glinting in the dim light of the cave, Kseniya cast her gaze over to the female trainer before averting her attention back to the Onix. A simple stomping motion with her dominant foot was all it would take to send a mound of earth crashing up into the gigantic rock snake pokemon. The beast didn't manage to do much before being struck, though unfortunately doing this had sent it into a fit of Rage. The Onix, after reeling back from the Gible's attack, charged forward and slammed into the Gible with all of it's might, sending her flying... Digging both her front and hind claws into the earth, Kseniya came to a gradual stop some meters behind Derek. He could barely tell where she was, but within a few moments that became very clear. Her body had begun emanating with a telltale blue energy, indicating to her trainer that she was getting serious. 'That's it, give it all you've got!' Derek thought to himself, watching closely as the little dragon launched itself into the Onix, causing it to collapse from the sheer intensity of the collision. "This is why I am here." Derek stated towards the other trainer, whom he now fixated on to see how they were handling the Geodude he left for them to fight. MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW |

the ground unnaturally shook; she could feel it trembling underneath her feet. her hand that she placed on the cave's wall only confirmed it, and it wasn't long after that when a duo of pokemon appeared, busting out from the ground. an onix engulfed the small vicinity they were in, making things that much more claustrophobic. she was keen on a battle, but not if it risked the safety of others. if the onix made one wrong move, the ceiling could collapse and they'd be stuck here, trapped until someone came to rescue them.
she was ready to turn and leave when the other trainer sent their dragon attacking. gritting her teeth out of frustration, she retrieved her cacnea and called him out, immediately pointing to the geodude. "its slow. use it to your advantage." her instructions were vague, but it was as intended. lugh burst forth, arm clad in sharp spikes, swinging at the geodude once for a NEEDLE ARM. the impact had been enough to send the rock-type crashing into the side of the wall, and as lugh continued to close the distance, the only thing the geodude could do was DEFENSE CURL in anticipation of the final blow.
which came in the form of a NEEDLE ARM. it was a quick and easy battle, as she had anticipated. her battle had ended before the other's, and she turned to watch the gible battle the onix with ferocity. its trained seemed capable enough. but still she worried about the onix. she watched it squirm in pain, even retaliating once but it hadn't been enough. the gible glowed blue and ended the battle with a final tackle.
"where'd you get the dragon?" she asked because she wanted one. it looked tough, and fierce despite its small size. but she knew what it'd grow up to be: something dangerous, and that risk excited her.

{ } Seeing that they had made swift work of the Geodude, Derek's ears perked up when being asked where he'd gotten a hold of his Gible. "Oh, you mean Kseniya? I bonded with her in the Dragon's Den of Fusube City. It's actually my hometown." There was more he'd thought to say, though this girl didn't need to hear his life story. Besides, that wouldn't be very attractive of him to start talking about such things to a darling stranger. "If you're interested, go see Gym Leader Mateo about it. There's no doubt you'll come across something." Having assumed she didn't know that much, the trainer went on to introduce himself as per the usual courtesy. "I'm Derek by the way. We should battle sometime...that is, if you're even into that sort of thing?" Casting a curious look their way, Derek's inquiry had been interrupted by the whooshing sounds of two approaching pokemon. Grasping the pokeball belonging to the Gible, Kseniya, Derek returned her to it's contents before reaching for another, loosing his recently acquired Metang into the darkness. The psychic type had no problem ascertaining the trainer's agenda, engaging the feral pokemon before Derek had even began to speak. "Rasputin, use Meteor Mash and pummel that Solrock to pieces for me, will ya?"Barreling forward and slamming one of it's clenched fists into the Solrock as it glided towards the two trainers, the Metang managed to knock it back into a wall before it could come any closer to the two humans. The pokemon's eyes and body began to glow at this point as it sunk to the ground, engulfing itself in a sheathe of flame before launching right back at Derek's Metang using Flare Blitz. Proving ignorant and unable to predict it had such an ability up it's sleeve, Derek was late to advise his pokemon to dodge. Yet by the looks of it, the Solrock's move appeared to be a double-edged sword, inflicting a bit of damage to itself as well from the sheer impact against the Metang's steel body. Reeling back from the blow, Rasputin came back to his senses after a short moment in order to fulfill his trainer's wishes. "One more time, Rasputin!" Knowing that it had done considerable damage to the Solrock, the Metang followed up with another use of it's Meteor Mash, punching the Solrock hard enough for it to embed in the wall of rock some ways behind it. The pokemon's eyes, which had already appeared partially shut, slowly began to creep all the way shut as it lost consciousness. "Good work, you can rest inside your pokeball now. Thank you." Adjusting his field of vision back to the girl, Derek hoped to see that they'd done away with the pesky Zubat that caught his eye before battling with the Solrock... upon hearing mention to fusube city, her lips thinned (as if they weren't already). "mine, too." she kept it short and blunt, not wanting to speak more on the topic, and thankfully, he carried the conversation on and the topic naturally shifted. while interested in owning a dragon, if it meant having to return home again, then it could wait. she'd push it away for as long as she could.
"ava, and sure. just not in dark caves."
casting jokes aside, a fresh pair of pokemon showed up to interrupt their conversation. cacnea was caught off guard by a quick and intuitive ASTONISH. unable to gain his bearings in time, lugh fell victim to an effective WING ATTACK, as the zubat rammed its entire body into the grass-type. he cried out in pain as he rolled along the ground, coming to a stop only because he hit the bottom of ava's leg. she lowered herself and helped nudge him onto his feet. "you can do it, lugh." she spoke in cliches because that was all she knew.
she caught a glimpse of the sleek-looking metang and felt a tinge of envy yet again. wherever these trainers were getting their rare pokemon, she needed to pay it a visit, too. lugh recovered and charged at the flying-type before tossing his entire body into it, slamming into it for a strong PAYBACK. he had coated himself with COTTON SPORE before starting his attack, which transferred onto the zubat when contact was made. with the flying-type now slowed, it allowed lugh to move in for a NEEDLE ARM.
despite the damage inflicted to it, the zubat managed a SUPERSONIC, releasing a sharp sound that pierced through the air. it confused lugh, and as he tried his best to regain his bearings, it allowed the zubat to swoop in for another WING ATTACK. lugh fell to his knees, crying yet again, but he remained strong. he held on. he returned with his favored combo, a PAYBACK and a swift NEEDLE ARM to send the zubat knocking against the side of the cave, fainting it.
when all was done, ava retrieved a potion from a bag and knelt next to the grass-type. she held a smile for as long as she could before spraying the liquid onto lugh's skin. with the pain lessened, they were ready for more battles. "he really doesn't like anything with wings," she joked, "neither do i."
( defeating the zubat ) ( using a potion ) ( note for myself: as of 07/19, combining all the levels gained in other duos (12 total), cacnea went from 15 to 27 )

{ } Derek noted as another duo of pokemon stepped out from the further, darker depths of the cavern. One of them happened to be a fossil pokemon, and one he was familiar with to boot. But neither boasted any wings. Having gathered Rasputin back into his pokeball, Derek selected the one containing his Gible once again. She had the advantage here, and it was always good to let her blow off as much steam as possible. Clicking the capsule open and allowing her to manifest, Derek simply nodded towards her as she began to deduce what was desired of her... The Shieldon started their skirmish off with a Metal Sound, ringing in both the ears of pokemon and trainer alike. Kseniya, both weakened as well as aggravated, stomped her foot abruptly in protest. A plume of earth erupted from below the Shieldon, caused by the Gible's Earth Power. Sustaining major damage and realizing this was not a wise fight to be picking, the Shieldon utilized Protect before Derek's Gible could attack any further. Her second use of Earth Power thus had no effect, allowing the Shieldon the allotted time necessary to make an attack of it's own. Pursuing the gible and giving it a mean Tackle, it sent Kseniya sliding back on her heels against the cavern's tough surface. Yet she dug her claws in regardless, having been raised in a place modeled in this cave's likeness. Upon coming to a stop, she jumped up once more and landed with both heels slamming into the ground. Another score of earth erupted from under the Shieldon, connecting with it directly. With the first one having weakened the Shieldon already, it came as no surprise the little guy hit the ground with a limp, motionless thud. "That was...convincing."Retrieving the Gible back into her ball before she could run over to the Shieldon and stand over it's body, which she did try to do, Derek looked over to the girl and her pokemon as he holstered the ball before taking out another to capture the Shieldon. she needed to get out of the cave. she wasn't claustrophobic, but they just kept coming. one after the other, more wild pokemon lurked out of their resting grounds, eager for a battle for whatever reason. it was good for cacnea, but for her, she had grown weary of it. they had done enough battling this week as it was. so, when another duo appeared, she sighed and lowered herself to a knee. "one more, okay?" she spoke to cacnea, and he nodded his response. she was impressed with his willingness and eagerness to battle. he wasn't the same pokemon as when they first met.
the other trainer had already started his battle with the fossil-pokemon, which she had to admit, was a sight to see. lugh burst forward for a strong NEEDLE ARM, only to have his attack parried by a PROTECT. never having seen his attack protected before, he was left confused, and prone to a powerful BUG BITE. it sunk its teeth into cacnea, and as he cried out in pain, he quickly turned that pain around with a PAYBACK. the wormadam got knocked back and left feeling dazed, leaving it susceptible to a NEEDLE ARM that connected this time around.
there was a step to lugh that she had never seen before. he was learning as he fought, analyzing his opponents and their movements as if he could anticipate their movements. it was impressive, and intuitive. he knew to take an attack (BUG BITE) only so he could turn it around with a PAYBACK, followed by a NEEDLE ARM. it was his signature combo, after all. the wormadam fell to the ground, and the battle was over.
with a chance to escape, she quickly walked over to the trainer and handed him her phone. "punch your details in. i'm leaving." and once he was done, she shot forth a red stream of light that engulfed cacnea back into his pokeball. she made her exit.

{ } Noticing Ava comeover to him, she pushed a device in his hands requesting he put in his number. "Huh? O-oh...okay, no problem." It was weird when a girl wanted your number, and not the other way around. Or at least when that girl didn't seem very much interested in chatting, or anything. It made the trainer curious as to what she thought she'd get out of it in the future. Perhaps she was just being nice? Realizing he was overthinking it, Derek quickly opened the contacts list and typed in his number and identification. He even sent himself a quick, one-word message just to make sure he'd recognize her number too. "All set." He voiced before gesturing the phone back to Ava. She seemed to be in a hurry, and Derek might as well have been in one himself. "See ya around." He noted optimistically before turning to make way for the exit. If there was one thing they could agree on, it was annoyingly dark in here. He should've had his Charmander out to give themselves a little light, but there was no use bickering about it now. [attr="class","Vgentempdiv"] It was no surprise to anyone involved that the Shieldon needed no more convincing to stay inside of the pokeball. After only a single shake, the ball fell still. Nice critical capture! However, thanks to the glow of the pokeball, both trainers got a glimpse of something glimmering in the distance. Upon further inspection, you both found some lost/discarded items free for the taking! - 400 Poke
