Was...this the right place? This had to be the right place - why wouldn't this be the right place? "I...should've wrote the details down somewhere...better." The red-haired girl muttered to herself, looking at the smeared ink on her hand with narrowed eyes. This was...probably the fourth house she'd approached - and dragging around this giant suitcase full of her things wasn't really...fun. She'd been in far too much of an excited, clumsy rush to properly write down the details of the location given to her, and it resulted in her having little idea as to which house was actually the 'one'.
Of course though, even after having a door slammed in her face after her latest attempt, her spirits hadn't fallen in the least. How could they? After so long - after so many hardships, she...was finally on the path she'd dreamed of taking...Even if she had a few - or several - hiccups along the way, she refused to give up. Especially not when someone was finally offering her a bit of support!
....She just didn't expect the first 'hiccup' to be getting utterly lost in this god-forsaken city.
"Uhm...It's getting a bit late...Oh god - what if he thinks I bailed on him? Or wasn't serious?...What if he thinks I was attacked by an Ursaring on the way here?!" Of course, it took Amelia only five seconds to jump to the worst conclusion possible, as the woman gasped softly. Guilt at the idea of worrying her 'soon to be partner' forced the woman to hurriedly follow along yet another path in search of her destination.
Finally, she came across a house of some sort - a bit small looking, but, not too bad at all! "Is this it?" She breathed out, blue gaze narrow slightly. The last 'house finding' attempt resulted in her getting sprayed with a spray bottle by some crazy cat lady...But...no! She felt it in her bones! This had to be the right one!
Letting out a breath and slipping a wide, vibrant smile onto her lips, the long-haired female approached the door. In one hand, she held a slightly small bouquet of red tulips....Mostly because she wanted to leave a good first impression....And because she had slightly succumb to the urge to buy flowers in a town full of them. But, now that she really thought about it, maybe this was a bit overboard?
Before she could reconsider her decision on 'flowers or not' though, her body had made the first move for her. A hand would reach out, knocking on the door before her a few times.
Forcing her voice not to tremble due to anxious excitement, she'd call out, "hello? It's Amelia Locke! Uhm....You know, the whole ad thingy?"

elijah's eyes fixed themselves squarely on a chip in the ceiling above him, for no other reason than to.. just do it. he found comfort there, lying on his bed, aimlessly lost in thought. he was barefoot, with grey joggers and a loose black t-shirt. a fan slowly, and methodically, cooled the room in a 180 degree arc. today had been.. boring, to say the least; he never the less found comfort in it's melancholic embrace. his journal lie open, spread out against his chest with barely a word on the page. his mind seemed to be everywhere.. and no where. the rumble and nag of his stomach pulled his attention back and with a sigh, he rose.
the place, while not exactly a mess, was buried under disorganization that came from a mind that never stopped. picking up his cell-phone he opened up an internet browser and began reading the latest updates from around the world. it was nearly mindless to reach in and out of cabinets, drawers, and the refrigerator to assemble the ingredients for dinner. cycling to the home button he locked the screen and looked around. "alice?" he called. no reply. "hmm.." he took a can from the cupboard, and a cup of dry food, mixed it together, and set it down on the floor. by the time he turned to walk away, the sounds of her eating filled the silence. "just like a gray.. weak to the call of our stomachs." he chuckled a bit and turned back towards the counter.
a knock at the door forced him to halt. 'who's knocking at this tim-' he thought, stopping when the voice called out. realization hit him like a stampeding tauros. amelia?! 'how did i forget all about this?!' the anxiety in his mind threatened to pour out in a groan before it dawned on him she was still at the door. "uh.. one second please!" elijah called out, racing to his room and fixing any clutter along the way. quickly he applied deodorant and a smudge of cologne before turning back to the hallway.
"okay act cool. act natural. it's just another day, eli. just another day. no biggie." whispers of small reassurances under his breathe as he walked to the door. and with a quick, decisive pull.. he opened it.
"uh.. hey. amelia, right?"
god he was bad at smiling.

For a moment, the red-haired woman heard nothing but...silence. Oh god - was this the wrong house too? Swallowing thickly, Amelia forced herself not to knock again. 'Be patient,' the female would scold herself, even if she fidgeted several times. Finally though, a voice called out to her. It...didn't sound anything like she had imagined it to. In fact, it sounded a bit rushed - if not frantic.
...Was this really the right house?
No, no, there was totally no way an actual, full-blown professor had forgotten about her arrival! After all, she'd been specifically chosen out of all of those other applicants, right? Ah, yeah, maybe she was just overthinking things?
Giving her head a little shake, she ignored the knot of anxiety that tightened in her stomach when the door had finally unlocked, revealing to her a young, blond man. The smell of something nice was the first thing to hit her senses as she took in his appearance - a slightly baffled look definitely showing on her expressive face. He looked around her age - a...bit younger than she had expected, honestly. In fact...
"Whoa...you're way cuter than I expected!" Words spoken without an ounce of fear poured from the woman's lips, as a cheeky, sincere smile came to her lips once more. It, thankfully, only took a few moments for Amelia to realize that her statement wasn't the most...appropriate for 'good first impressions'. Awkwardly clearing her throat, and praying that she hadn't sealed her fate right then and there, she'd thrust the flowers forward, partially shoving them in the man's face as an awkward, slightly forced laugh left her lips. "Yeah! I'm Amelia! You're Mr. Gray, right? Very, very nice to meet you!"
Oh. Right. The flowers.
"....These are for you, by the way! Ah...uhm...You're not allergic, right? Oh arcues, if you're allergic, I'm so sorry!"

rather clumsily he pushed himself against the frame of the door. his attempt to act natural and not at all frantic barely clinging to a thread. if you could even still say it was. the smile he plastered on his face slowly faded as he took her in. crimson hair fell perfectly around her cute, delicate face. her smile both kind and warm; the type that people flocked too.
'wow'
her voice pulled him from what probably was a very awkward trance. "oh.. uh," cheeks turned pink under the realization she had just called him cute. words struggled to formulate for.. well.. the first time ever. typically he was terrible with women. but this? this was on a scale he had yet experienced. using his left arm he extended the door wider to allow the woman a better view of the interior. it was far too late to be embarrassed about the place now. "o-oh. please, call me elijah.. or eli. whatever works, really." he awkwardly chuckled off any potential tension. "mr. gray is far too formal."
quickly, but not so quick that it could be read into (hopefully) he took the flowers. "of course not! these are very nice.. thank you. i hope alice doesn't get into them." he half turned inside. "uh, i was just about to start making dinner.. would you like to join me? " he wasn't sure if it was appropriate to show her the place first or.. 'i'm really not good at this.'
as she stepped in elijah shut the door behind her, giving her proper room so as to not come off as creepy or.. serial killery. "your room is this way," he started off, crimson vixen in tow. they continued on down the hall past his room, the blond haired professor stifling any shame from his mess of a room and instead focusing on the task ahead. opening the door, he made room for her to walk by. "i hope it's okay." inside was neat and simple. a twin sized bed with a decent sized wooden dresser not too far off. it, unlike eli's, had a mirror attached to it. on the far end was a small closet. "i know it's not much," he said a bit more peckishly than he would've liked.
careful not to loom over her too much, he turned his attention to the kitchen, visible from just outside her door. "i was about to make dinner, if you wanted to join me? take your time, though, of course. i'm sure you want to get comfortable." despite the awkward start, his smile was genuine and his nerves relatively on their way to calming down. staying just long enough to make sure she didn't need something further before making his way to the kitchen. the sound of a knife hitting the cutting board soon following.

Of course, Amelia was oblivious to the embarrassment of the man before her as she gave another nod. "Okay - Eli it is then!" Unsurprisingly enough, she would opt to choose the less formal of the two options. The vibrant smile the woman displayed didn't falter in the least bit - in fact, it only grew when he took the small bouquet she offered him, an audible breath of relief escaping from her lips. She chose not to question about the whole 'Alice' thing - she was positive she'd meet them soon enough! Still, her stomach did briefly knot in anxiety at the thought of having to make a good first impression on yet another person.
"Huh?" She'd nearly missed Elijah's question as she snapped to, bright blue eyes dully blinking once - then twice..."Oh, oh! Yeah!" She'd exuberantly exclaim, voice not missing even a single optimistic note. With a single hand clutching that obnoxiously large, and slightly beat up, suitcase she'd eagerly follow behind her new housemate.
Several times, she nearly walked into his back - either too focused on trying to get her suitcase unstuck whenever the wheels started to mess up, or trying too hard to discretely peek over the man's shoulder. The easily excitable woman tried not to get too fixated on various things, nor wander off to 'explore' on her own, even if she really wanted to. The house was...kinda cute! Cozy, warm - definitely homey!
After making it to her new room, Amelia let out a soft 'wow' under her breath, looking up at the blond with appreciative eyes and a sincere grin. "What? This? This is great! I love it!" She let out a spirited laugh, unable to hide her joy. This was really happening - she'd actually done it! "Of course! I'll be out soon, go, go!" Already regarding the man with her usually friendly antics, she'd wave him off, watching as he disappeared around the corner and towards the kitchen. With the room- her room now to herself, she did the first thing any respectable, aspiring young professor would do.
She tried out the bed.
She flopped on it, rolled on it, bounced on it - it was perfect. "Oh god this is the best," the woman sighed underneath her breath from where she lay on her back, body hanging halfway off the comfy bed, causing a cascade of her long, deep red strands to hang. After nearly ten minutes - five of which were spent fighting with her suitcase to get it past the door frame and into her room - she'd finally make her way to the kitchen.
"Heyo," she'd greet, tone as happy-go-lucky as ever, "do'ya need help?"

in the kitchen he began to feel his tense muscles unwind, a sigh of relief escaping his lips. the counter, while only coming up to a little above his waist, was like a small wall from an anxiety he didn't want to face - err, know how to face. his head perked up each time he saw over the consecutive few minutes. he laughed softly as she struggled to move her suitcase in, and just as he was going to interrupt to volunteer his help, it disappeared past the frame. the sounds of the bed squeaking caused him to hesitate a moment, eyes wide, before he pushed the thought away and continued out his duty.
the counter was filled with a slew of ingredients from a pork shoulder, to a wide array of conidements and spices, to the glass dish he was working with now. humming as he worked, elijah layered the inside of the glass and it's sides in butter and soon followed it up with strips from a piece of blocked cheese. a voice perked his attention upwards as amelia emerged from her room. almost too casual for meeting a stranger for the first time, she reminded elijah of home. he missed the feeling.
"oh, uhm, yeah, if that's okay?" he posed it as a question - one she could refuse, if she wanted. he understood asking people to help was polite and wanted to give her an out just in case. provided she didn't back out, he continued, "i could use help seasoning the meat." he turned his attention back to the dish. hanging his head to avoid her stare, he did his best to distract himself. 'seasoning the meat? really eli??' real smooth, smart guy. he swallowed thickly.
"i'm fine with any combination you come up, really." lifting his head, his warm smile hopefully encouraged her to use her creative juices. meanwhile, alice made herself home a top the fridge, tail swaying to and fro with curious eyes as she watched amelia.

Her keen, eager-to-help gaze rested on Eli, expectantly waiting for an answer - and there was a definite glow of amusement to her blue hued eyes when he spoke up. "I wouldn't offer if I didn't mean it!" She gave him a cheeky smile, but, there was no doubting the sincerity in her tone. She really did want to help - it was the least she could do after...well, all of this!
Listening to his statement, the redhead would pause at his very...peculiar instructions. What...? It was hard not to smirk childishly - it was even harder not to taunt him about such....'raunchy' instructions. She wasn't a pervert or anything like that! And...she certainly didn't want to come off as one but...Man, this opportunity was just too good to pass up!
After struggling with her inner self to hold her mouth close, finally, the woman would give into her childish desires, as a little giggle left her lips. "Mhm, I'll season the meat really well." Despite the suggestive nature of her playful words, that darn bubbly attitude didn't cease in the least bit, even if a brief look of smugness passed over her. However, as briefly as it appeared, it was gone and replaced with that ever eager look of hers. "Oh! Ah, just one moment!" The woman would briefly disappear around the corner, heading back towards her new room.
She wasn't gone for long - in fact, she promptly returned, now donning a slightly patched apron of some sort, and a wide, pleased smile on her lips. "I honestly thought I forgot about it," she sheepishly admitted, brushing the old thing off. There was definitely a certain softness in her eyes as she regarded the apron though.
She'd soon approach the mess of spices and utensils Eli had on display, a brow quirked slightly. Everything was...everywhere. How did he know which thing was where? How did he not knock things over? She, of course, didn't want to toot her own horn, but, she was pretty good at cooking - but even this was making her head spin a bit.
Despite this, the woman only pleasantly smiled as her slender fingertips began to pick and choose at the spices she desired. "Oh - grounded Chesto berry!" She muttered to herself, blue eyes filled with awe at the variety she had to work with. "This is so cool," she couldn't hep but whisper under her voice, enamored by just how creative she could be with this much freedom!
But...she'd save 'freaky 'anything goes' meatloaf' for later - she didn't want to her her new housemate stomach pains on her first day here.
After choosing which seasonings she'd used, with a careful precision at that, she'd get to doing just as Elijah had asked - seasoning the meat. Sprinkling various, curious seasonings, the woman moved in a way that said she knew what she was doing, despite her childish excitement and antics. She'd only pause in her masterful act when the faint flick of pale brown caught the corner of her eye, and she'd follow it only to see...
A meowth?
For a moment, Amelia simply stared, as though enamored by the feline who equally stared back at her...And soon enough, she couldn't help but gush. "...She's so beautiful!"

"of course, i appreciate the help," he said through a smile that translated deep into his eyes. the familiar comfort of sharing a kitchen with someone gave elijah a deep, delightful feeling in his chest. he'd done it often with his mom and.. sister. it felt like an eternity since he last did something like this. when she teased him about the meat.. once again a deep crimson rose to his cheeks. eli made a motion to reply but instead found himself perking up curiously as her tiny feet carried her out of the kitchen - a cute ball of energy.
'calm down eli.. don't be weird. just a collegue'
almost as if his own thoughts disappointed him, he went back to tending to the glass dish, a small smile still playing at her lips. cheese; milk; croutons. it was nearly ready. when she returned he looked up once more and couldn't hide the laugh that came surging out. "i should get myself one as well," he noted, regarding how she looked in it. 'wow' was all he could think to himself. he couldn't help but notice how enamored the old thing made her and he was taken back to the coat that now hung by the door. it was a story he'd want to hear about.
finalizing the prep for his families original macaroni & cheese, he turned around to prep the oven next to her to a solid 450 degrees. more than enough to cook the pork and his dish. he noticed she smelled of strawberries as he passed, making a mental note to make sure he always applied cologne from here on out. elijah had placed her flowers in a long, water filled glass on the center of the table. it would've been rude to do any less.
"if you need any spices we can go to the store, too" he added, hearing her excitement behind him. he didn't exactly have the most profound palate to choose from, and more often than not, he settled for the simple things such as salt and pepper. a woman's touch would be refreshing. his shifting attention was pulled to the sound of her voice as she had finally noticed the third wheel: alice. "oh, i was wondering where she was." he didn't stop prepping the bowl of salad for their dinner as the talked. "that's alice.. she's a diva," eli mentioned with a bit of a laugh.
the normal-type moved slowly as she stood, stretched and jumped onto the counter. "come on, you know you're not supp-" the professor found himself interrupted as the cat braced it's hind legs and jumped, landing squarely and effortlessly on amelia's shoulder. in seconds she was sprawling out on her shoulder blades. "i-i'm really sorry about that. she isn't typically like this... in fact she's never done this before." he made a motion to get the cat off the woman despite being confused and impressed.
how embarrassing.

The sincerity in his smile to even his laugh was something that hadn't gone unnoticed by the scarlet haired female. If anything, she found herself almost a bit enamored by it - the light look in his eyes when he laughed to how expressive his smiles were....It was nice. She found herself enjoying them - as weird as it likely sounded.
"We can go shopping for one together!" Amelia would brightly suggest towards him. Despite the almost slightly silly sound of it all - shopping for an apron of all things - she was...actually pretty serious. If the cook looked good, then the food would too! Or, at least, that was what she chose to believe.
From the corner of her eyes, she watched as Eli finished prepping his own dish - was that...macaroni and cheese? Whoa - that sounded...delicious! Nice, melted cheese and soft noodles...Ugh, just the thought of it made her realize she really hadn't eaten anything all day...Well, aside from an pecha berry her murkrow had offered her...Although, she wasn't really sure where he'd gotten it from, and it did taste a little funny...
Deciding not to look too far into the admittedly questionable fruit her murkrow had likely stolen, she'd find herself shaking her head at the man before her once more. "No, no, this is perfect, really," she'd flash him a brief, reassuring smile before turning back to her 'masterpiece'. The aroma the seasoned meat emitted was tantalizing - a sign that she was almost done with working everything in.
"A diva, eh? I think we'll get along just fine then," she winked playfully, unable to help but let out a little laugh. Too fixated on finishing up her preparations, she completely missed the meowth drawing closer until it was too late. A little 'eek' came from her lips when a light weight suddenly landed upon her shoulder, her blue eyes widening as she tilted her head to look at the feline who had made herself more than at home on her new perch.
With shock in her eyes, she'd look over at the content cat, blinking several times - and nearly missing the frantic reply that had rushed from the professors lips. It was only when he approached did she suddenly realize he was speaking to her, and the scarlet haired woman would gently shaking her head, unable to hold in another little giggle. "Oh, she's fine! Actually, she's really soft and warm...it's nice," she jokingly stated, "like a...tiny little pillow. A...Cat pillow..A...Pillat? Ca..llow..." She'd trail off into a few little mutters - still trying to come up with some fusion between the two words as a 'thoughtful' look came to her eyes. All the while, a hand would reach forward in effort to lightly scratch beneath the feline's chin if she allowed her to.
"But uhm! She's fine! I just can't really bend to put this in the oven- she looks so comfortable! So er...do you possibly, maybeee mind?" She'd sheepishly ask Eli as her gaze flickered down to the now seasoned pork that lie before them both. She...felt a bit bad - she was the one who had offered to help, after all. "Pretty please?"

much like how a muk would feel, the meowth melted beneath the woman's touch. the cat's throat rumbled and, much to eli's surprise... she purred. it took nearly every ounce of elijah's being to suppress the emotion that welled up inside of him. it had been a very, very long time since she seenmed so.. content. terrified of which emotion would come out, relief flooded him when he started to laugh. a genuine, deep laugh that took him a minute to get a hold of. as if the walls all came crashing down around you at once and.. you were without a scratch. that kind of relieving laughter. between that and the woman's attempt to create a new word, a new fear crept over him: would he stop laughing before he passed out?!
"i have a certain liking to callow, if i'm being honest." he said, in-between bursts of laughter. tall, slender arms moved towards the seasoned meat and slid it in the top most rack. beneath it, he slid the macaroni in as well and set the timer. elijah doubted he could say no to her — not with those eyes. he moved around her, letting her soak up the little things with alice. making sure things were relatively tidy (not really) he washed his hands in the sink. finished, he turned around, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms.
"she's usually more.. angst than that," he started, "it's good to see that she likes you." he smiled at the thought, and at her before he pushed off towards the fridge. "it's not much, but, if you drink i have a little something here?" emerging from the fridge he held a bottle with the words charizardonnay on it. a cheap wine; not the best, but not the worst, honestly. careful not to be a clumsy fool he went over to the cabinet and retrieved two cheap wine glasses, pouring a fair amount into each and handing amelia hers'.
"i was thinking we could go grocery shopping this weekend sometime. pick up a few things, and you could get what you think this place needs." he paused, laughing a bit as he took a sip. "and yeah, definitely an apron. i'll need your eye for that."
from behind him, small and groggy, a bulbasaur emerged from the hallway. she yawned deeply and continued her path towards the kitchen.

Amelia couldn't help but let out a soft coo when Alice began to purr - it was just so...cute! "She's so sweet," the woman softly breathed out in a whisper to herself, enamored by the softness of the meowth's fur and how cute she was. Hadn't Eli mentioned her being a diva? Really? This adorable cat? As if!
His sudden laughter did definitely catch her off guard though, as she'd stare at him with a slightly tilted head. Was...he okay? Was there something on her face? Had she said something dumb?! No - that couldn't be it. There was something...sincere about his laugh. It wasn't teasing nor mocking; he was genuinely just...laughing. And honestly, Amelia couldn't help but let out a little giggle of her own, even if she had virtually no idea why. "Callow it is then!" She'd state with a vibrant grin, unable to hold in another little giggle.
Careful of the cat on her shoulder after she had, reluctantly, stopped petting her, Amelia began to carefully clear the counter of the spices she'd used, aiding in the little 'clean up' session. She...actually had trouble reaching one of the cabinets that were higher up, and instead, opted for 'discretely' hiding a few of the spices instead. 'I'm not short,' she couldn't help but let out a little huff to herself.
"I can tell that she's a good pokemon - she has a big heart," the redhead would almost quietly mutter, briefly locking eyes with the feline that rested on her shoulder as she trailed off, as though caught in a trance by the meowth. Soon enough, she'd perk up once more. "U-uhm, that's just my babbling and gut feeling, though!" She'd give an embarrassed smile.
She'd take the wine glass he offered, that light in her blue eyes never seeming to die. "This is perfect," she'd reassure him with a grateful nod, bringing the glass to her lips to give it a small sip. While the texture wasn't rich nor the flavor all that, it still tasted amazing to the professor intern - she...really wasn't that picky about...well, anything.
"That sounds fun! I-I mean...ahm, yes, I'll...help out and..er..try to...yes." The attempt at trying to be even a tiny bit serious about the matter completely backfired, as the woman began to stutter a bit before eventually silencing herself with another sip of wine. "Do you think we could ge-"
Before she could finish her question, a slightly reptilian-looking pokemon had appeared, looking a bit tired, but, still utterly adorable. Once again, the redheads features just seemed to light up in nothing but sheer delight at the sight of the bulbasaur, as excitement quickly flashed on her face. She even gave the little plant dinosaur a frantic little wave of greeting. "Why...are all your pokemon so adorable?!" She'd soon complain with a soft huff. "All I have is a murkrow that does't even- ugh..this is so unfair," she'd childishly huff, a pouting frown coming to her lips.

"she.. is a good pokemon," elijah agreed, his eyes turning turning soft. "she was the runt of the litter. her mom had abandoned her for.. some reason," he continued, his eyes turning towards the cat. she watched him silently, face expressionless. "the breeder gave her to my.. family thinking we would save her.. but i think she saved us, y'know?" he did his best to hold any sort of emotion from his voice. it probably wasn't the most convincing.
so far, though, amelia had been a delight. today had been rather melancholic and energyless. in fact, this was going to be eli's first meal since waking up this morning. sharing it with someone seemed to bring back his appetite. mid-sip he paused, moving his glass barely away from his mouth as he watched and listened to amelia stumble over her words. it was an issue had trouble with as well... though for slightly different reasons. he contemplated their working relationship. elijah was often too serious, and amelia.. well, he seriously doubted they had that in common. it would make for an interesting dynamic to say the least.
he turned around to see what the ruckus was about and laid eyes on the bulbasaur as it emerged grouchy, and tired. "oh, she's awake." he set the glass down and rounded the counter top, reaching down and picking the grass-type up. she yawned again in his arms and snuggled close to his chest. "amelia meet.. ariel," elijah introduced. "i named her after one of the moons of Uranus.. but as you can imagine, i typically don't tell people that." he looked a bit red as he laughed at the thought. "as you can see they're both big babies."
he listened as he walked to the cabinet and began to fiddle around with his free hand. grabbing a seperate can from alice's food, he placed it on the counter and retrieved the dry food portion. "i'm sure it's not that bad," he said in reference to the bird pokemon, placing the bowl and ariel down on the counter. "though.. i did have a bad encounter with one not too long ago." blue eyes pondered into thought. "i'm sure it was just a coincidence, though." he mixed the food as he spoke and allowed the grass-type to eat it on the counter. contemplating it for a second, he threw pieces of the salad in there as well which only pleased her.
"luckily, i still needed to clean," the professor said aloud, turning back towards the woman with wine glass back in hand. "so what was it you wanted to pick up?" small talk was.. hard.

Hearing the tale of the meowth made the talkative redhead fall a bit silent - a thoughtful look coming to her eyes before, finally, that warm smile of hers returned. Pokemon...were amazing. They really, truly were. Of course, someone as empathetic as her picked up on the slight tremble of emotion in Eli's voice. However, be it out of respect or awe, she'd merely nod at his words. It was as clear as day to her that this meowth, Alice, was very important to him. 'He cares a lot of her,' she'd reflectively think to herself - but, decided to otherwise not overthink as to what the man's words meant.
"Ariel...A-Ri-El," she'd amusingly 'test' the name of the bulbasauar, "it's nice to meet you too!" She'd offer the pokemon another friendly little smile, unable to keep in a slight giggle as Elijah explained the origin of the pokemon's name. Some might've found it as a bit nerdy - but, her? It was creative! If anything, she felt almost a bit...jealous. Her naming of things - especially her pokemon - was a bit more lackluster, a bit more 'on the dime', and a lot less thought out. "You should tell more people, it's very creative, I think!" She'd enthusiastically reject with a shake of her head - only to clam up slightly at the mention of his 'bad encounter' with a murkrow.
The sudden paleness of her face was quite noticeable...likely because the murkrow species, as a whole, were noted to be...well, jerks. And she was positive her murkrow wasn't any better. In fact, her bird-brain of a pokemon had gotten her kicked out from a hotel once via deciding to mess with every person he could. The jerk had even hid his pokeball - he had planned that whole thing, she swore he had! Realizing she'd fallen silent for a moment, and bore a grimace at that, Amelia would only let out a little nervous laugh. "A...huh. Yeah...he's...great..." She'd state, deciding that she'd introduce the dark/flying type at another time - if just to calm her nerves at the thought of her new housemate getting fed up with him and kicking her out for it.
But...Eli didn't seem like that sort of person. Sure, she was kinda oblivious and had her head in the clouds 24/7, but, she liked to consider herself pretty perceptive when it came to people!
Bringing her lips to her glass once more, she'd take another drink of her wine - a small tint coming to her cheeks at the mention of what it was she so desperately wanted from the store. Once again, a little glimmer would come to her eyes as a wide grin began to spread across her lips. "Y'know those really super cute pikachu clocks? We have to get one! The little cute cheeks light up at noon and midnight and everything!" She'd vibrantly explain the thing it was she sought, trying her hardest not to move around too much due to Alice resting upon her shoulder.
"...Do you think they'll have one?...Oh Arceus, what if they don't?!" She...honestly almost sounded a bit distraught about it.

ariel turned her head in a groggy, bags under her eyes type of look. while she could be grumpy when she was tired, the bulbasaur seemed more or less on the verge of waking up. her expression read only one thing: 'same'. sizing up the red head, ariel turned back towards her dish and continued eating her dinner. elijah wasn't phased by the lack of interaction with a stranger. it was normal around here. "i'll let you explain that to the next person and you'll see what i mean." a quick laugh followed by memories of the few times he tried. awkward, awkward, and more awkward.
at the mention of her pokemon, the rather extroverted woman seemed to retreat into herself. she bore all the canny resemblences of elijah when he was being an awkward wartortle. raising an eyebrow, he didn't interrupt as she spoke. even he wasn't so foolish as to not catch the very not-so-sublte signs it was something she wasn't quite ready to explain. "i'm sure we'll have plenty of time for meet and greets later," he smiled, giving the woman an out to move onto another topic. struggle wasn't a good luck on her. well, it was. but the professor suspected she looked good doing anything.
as amelia continued talking, elijah ran his forefinger across the grass-type's head. while it didn't stop its paced eating, it's closed eyes and softened expression told him that ariel enjoyed the senstation. at the mention of a pikachu clock, his eyes turned towards her, unconsciously blurting out "oh?" to her request. it wasn't the oddest thing he could think of, but it certainly wasn't what he was expecting. behind the glass she grinned and elijah's heart skipped a beat. 'stifle it, dr.' was all he repeated to himself.
seeing her distraught, he interjected quickly.
"i think they have some," it was posed more of an open-ended statement as his mind searched for the true answer. "i remember seeing a raichu one..." nothing came to mind and elijah felt a tinge of disappointment. "but if they don't, we can order one online. don't worry, it'll make a great addition to the place." he smiled reassuringly. from behind amelia, the stove beeped. casting a quick glance, the timer was slowly counting down in double digits now. "oh! looks like it's almost ready."
pushing himself off the counter, elijah went towards the cabinets near the stove. as he walked by amelia he looked at alice, who was now staring at him with a blank face, and grinned. she seemed comfortable. he didn't blame her.. the red hair brought back memories. "i'll get the plates and everything," he trailed off, working as he spoke. "you want to take the napkins and drinks to the table and i'll bring it to you?" alice would only make it a hindrance for her to be reaching up and about for things. not solely because elijah was an extremely well-groomed gentleman.
yeah, that. definitely that.

The less than enthusiastic 'greeting' the red-head received from the bulbasaur did't damper her spirits in the slightest. In fact, that wide smile only brightened. In her mind, these were some of the best memories to look back and reflect on; the ones that showed just how far along she and the ones she considered her friends had came. She...could only hope this whole 'arrangement' lasted long enough to where she could see such fond reminiscence come to being.
Grateful at the change in subject from meeting her homewrecker of a pokemon, the professor in training would expectantly lean forward with nothing but hope in her eyes at the mention of the clock she sought after. Her whole face seemed to light up...only for it to abruptly dim down to one of slight disappointment. A raichu one? Those...weren't bad - still definitely adorable but...
"Online? Oh, yeah, they might have one of them on there!" She'd quickly perk back up with a spirited nod - never one to be down for too long. Especially not when it was obvious her new companion was trying to appease her notably questionable wants and desires. The last roommate she asked to have a 'skitty alarm' flat out called it a 'stupid idea'...Yeah, that'd been a miserable few months, honestly. But, Elijah? There was something...about him. Something that made her look forward to this 'new beginning' she'd have with him.
The sudden beep of the stove made the female smile - although it quickly turned to a small look of embarrassment when her stomach decided to let out a rather loud, complaining rumble. "I...may not have eaten all day." She sheepishly explained with a little laugh before giving a keen nod. "Of course! If you need me do more, just ask. I'm tougher than I look - I can carry tons o' stuff!" She reassured him with a toothy grin and a wink before grasping at the napkins and drinks...praying that, at this moment, her clumsiness wouldn't decide to go 'screw you'.
Thankfully, the long haired female was able to carry the small bundle of napkins and their drinks over to the table without making a fool of herself - a personal victory, in all honesty. "You sure you don't need anymore help, Eli?" She'd ask while playing around with the napkins in attempt to fold them into those delicate, fancy little triangles resturants often did.
It...didn't work. The napkin somehow ended up looking more like a brain-dead square but...it looked nice enough?
