[attr="class","smdbody"] it was late afternoon, and the sky was presently covered in a thick layering of gray cloud. the weather promised rain, but mother nature had granted an ample amount of time for those caught underneath the oncoming tempest to find shelter.
'at least i don't hear any thunder.'
ash hurried herself along, maintaining a steady pace as she sought to reach the route's end in the time alotted.
'i still have an hour, i think, before it really hits.'
then again, her guesswork was more often than naught inaccurate. she hadn't gotten any better at reading the weather during her travels, and had suffered for her inexperience numerous times over. but she, at the very least, was in possession of a rain coat if worst came to worst.
'enju city should be a half hour away, i think?'
she wasn't entirely sure, and would glance at the nearby greenery with a hopeful look in her eye. she could only hope that the route's trees would shield her from the bad weather if her luck were to run out before arriving in the city.
'i could just fly,' she thought.
but the threat of lightening was still apparent despite the lack of evidence for it thus far. she'd rather not risk killing both herself and her pokemon for the sake of taking a shortcut.

The raven haired man was on his way to Enju City so that he could explore all of it's glory. The stories and rumors he had heard about the city filled him with excitement, which revealed itself in the smile on his face and the quickness that he was walking. However, his hazel eyes observed the sky above him and noticed the clouds of gray forming about. It was painfully obvious that it was going to rain soon, and he wouldn't have much to explore while it rained. So, in the mean time—being that he was on Route 37, it seemed a quick bit of training before finding a room to sleep in would suffice. [break][break]
He found himself around the small tree that the route looped itself around. As of yet he had no luck in spotting a Pokemon, and that was definitely not a good thing. He didn't mind the rain, in fact, he loved it. Today was a nice, warm day, and the addition of rain would be welcomed. However, he at least wanted to get some training in before the rain really picked up. With the way the wind was picking up, it seemed a storm was coming instead of a regular rain fall. "I guess all those rituals they do in Enju City finally brought about a big storm..." He joked to himself. [break][break]
As he walked forward, he noticed a female coming towards him. She seemed like she was looking for something, though Spade wasn't entirely sure. He couldn't read her face too well from the distance that separated the two. Once they got closer however, he introduced himself. "Hey! Are you a trainer too? I wasn't expecting to meet anyone out here especially with the weather being like this. I'm Spade by the way." He said, extending his hand for a shake. Sure she was a girl, but he rarely embraced girls he didn't know with hugs, especially nowadays when a girl could just summon a Pokemon and sic them on him just for thinking about hugging a random stranger. Sheesh.

[attr="class","smdbody"] ash had, admittedly, been caught unawares by the male. she honestly hadn't expected to encounter someone in the midst of this oncoming storm, and she would slow to a halt to eye him curiously up and down. he was strangely familiar, but his memory was a disappointingly faded one. the stranger was a handsome fellow with a nice hair cut, his distinctively chiseled features causing her brown-eyed gaze to linger upon his face and mane.
'spike?'
the girl blinked, cocked her head to the side and squinted. it wouldn't be terribly long before her expression grew increasingly lax, a lazy yet friendly smile smile twisting at her lips.
"ash," she said, simply.
she accepted the hand he offered, giving it a firm and proper shake before releasing it.
"and - heh - yeah, you can say i'm a trainer."
ash gestured toward her belt, indicating the six minimized pokeballs that were secured on the magnetic notches set there.
"started a little while ago, actually," she continued.
he appeared to be just as fresh-faced as herself - but she could, of course, be absolutely wrong when it came to that hastily made assessment. there were a plethora of experienced trainers around, after all, and it was slightly difficult for someone such as herself to pick them out of a crowd.
"i - "
the sound of distant chimes caught her attention, and it wouldn't be long before a peculiar pokemon made its appearance. it was traveling alongside the winds, and was in the midst of making its way past the pair of humans with an easy smile upon its face.
"that's a chimecho," ash remarked. "i haven't really seen one in person before."
ash's face split into a wide and eager grin.
"i wanna fight it."
unwilling to let it simply slip away, ash reached for her personally owned pokeballs and plucked up a particular one. from its confines, her zoroark would appear before her, crouched and yawning noisily before blinking blearily in the direction of his chosen target.
"jester, get in there with a 'dark pulse'."
the dark fox would raise himself to his proper height before raising a paw in the psychic-type's direction, a purple orb forming within his palm before he released a surge of spiraling darkness. it would ram directly into the small pokemon and cause it to harshly impact the earth as it was knocked from the air. it would rise after a short while, a grimace upon its face as it wavered before attempting to wield its psychic abilities against the zoroark. the move was wasted, its power unable to bring harm to the fox due to his respective affiliation, and it was forced to press closer and wrap itself 'round the bipedal pokemon's narrow middle.
"use night slash - try to finish it off!"
her pokemon obeyed, tearing into the dainty creature with a darkness-laced claw. it released a sharp cry but remained conscious, retreating several meters before attempting to hastily heal itself with a 'heal bell'.
"another night slash!"
that managed to bring the chimecho back to earth, its expression dazed as it grew still. ash whistled, satisfied with what she had bore witness to.
'and it's my first time really using him, too.'

While she introduced herself, he couldn't help but recognize her face. It was the distance that separated them beforehand that made it difficult for him to notice who she was, but now that she was standing before him it was quite obvious who she was. Though, fortunately she gave her name out again because he had regretfully forgotten it. "Oh, you! I remember you! It was from that village with the cave a few days back... How funny to bump into you again." He let out a slight laugh to try his best to break the awkward tension that he was feeling. [break][break]
Before he got too into his head, the chimes of a Pokemon rang out throughout the surrounding area. The noise was rather close, and with the clouds starting to come it, it was becoming difficult to see. It was a Chimecho, a Pokemon that looked as if it didn't actually exist. It moved so effortlessly through the air that it seemed like one burst of wind would take it somewhere else. Ashley decided to take on the Chimecho, which was fine with Spade, as another Pokemon approached the group with curiosity. [break][break]
"Lucky me! I have one too." He said with a sarcastic excitement. As he released his Charmander from his PokeBall, he looked onward at her Pokemon. It looked strong, and the Pokemon strongly resembled a wolf, or better yet, a werewolf because of it's bipedal movement. "Everyone I've been coming across lately has been so far ahead of me... What am I doing. I need to start putting in overtime." He wouldn't be discouraged by the strength of the Pokemon that he met along the way, instead he would use that energy to fuel his determination to get to the top. [break][break]
"Use Fire Spin to set up our next move!" He told the Charmander. It was time to try out a new combination that he had been thinking of trying for quite some time now. As the Girafarig approached the duo, the Charmander jumped into action and released waves of fire that spiraled around the psychic Pokemon. While inside the fire, the Girafarig attempted to back up only to find itself burned by the fire the swirled all around it. Before it came up with a plan to escape the fire, Spade issued his next command. "Now, use Inferno and finish the Pokemon off!" The Charmader's ears perked up when it heard the move that Spade ordered, it was something that he rarely got to use, but it was his most powerful technique and when utilized on a Pokemon with no means of escape it proved to be extremely powerful. [break][break]
Charmander's maw started to explode with fire, ten times as much as when he would use Flame Thrower, and just as the fire began to overwhelm the Pokemon's mouth it released it towards the trapped Girafarig. The enormous stream of fire warmed the air around them and even caused Spade to sweat a bit from the intensity of the heat. Inferno collided with the Fire Spin and caused an explosion that engulfed the Girafarig and sent it back and few feet, unconscious and unable to battle. [break][break]
While the Charmander was huffing and puffing, a glow encased his essence and began to glow even brighter by the second. "You too?!" He shouted with joy, his hazel orbs fixated on his Pokemon's upcoming transformation. Once the light settled, a new Pokemon was in Charmander's place. He had now evolved into a Charmeleon, and with his new found power he let out a roar that was much deeper than he could ever manage as a Charmander. "Aw, come here buddy!" Despite Spade's exterior, he had an extreme soft spot for his Pokemon and rushed to hug the Charmeleon. However, Skōll didn't quite enjoy the hug, feeling as if he was a bit too old for something like that. So at first, he tried to scrape Spade off of him, before finally succumbing to his love and accepting the hug. "I can't wait to see what you can do now buddy." Even though he felt like he had a ways to go, he would follow the path he was on and trust in himself and his Pokemon.

[attr="class","smdbody"] ash would stare in awe as the charmander morphed before her very eyes, his shape becoming taller and considerably fierce within the span of a few seconds. his trainer rejoiced, his face lighting up as he celebrated the occasion by embracing his partner.
'kinda reminds me of when mine evolved.'
her own comrades had grown quickly within the short time she had had them. though she had reacted the strongest to rook's evolution, and had taken the newly formed medicham into her arms the moment it had happened, beyond delighted that the fighter had acquired such a powerful shape. all of the pokemon occupying her present roster had reached their final evolutionary stage, so she wouldn't personally experience such sudden bouts of growth until she acquired new ones.
'and who knows when that'll be.'
"congrats, man."
the brunette's sweeping gaze took in the sight of those powerful set of claws the charmeleon was in possession of, visibly impressed by their sharpened points. her zoroark would join her in visually assessing the fire-type, having comfortably situated himself by his mistress's side. a raspy croon escaped him as he congratulated skōll in their respective tongue and dipped his head respectively, the bipedal fox's overall tone just as genuine as his mistress's.
"maybe you can test him out in battle?"
ash tugged her gaze away from the pair in favor of taking in the sight of their immediate surroundings.
"there's a... lotta 'mons around here. plenty for us to fight, yeah?"
the oncoming tempest temporarily forgotten, the woman managed to pick out a few pokemon for them to make use of. a wandering drowzee had only just caught her eye, she would snap her fingers before gesturing toward the psychic-type, helpfully pointing out its location to her fox.
"try taking that one down with fury swipes, jester."
her pokemon dipped his head in understanding before lunging forward to initiate the battle.
"i see an exeggcute over there," ash continued. "five meters to your left, bro. you're free to it."
that terribly infectious desire to direct her companions toward living targets - to train them and make them improve as battlers - caused her focus to shift entirely. her eyes would brighten with excitement as she blinked up at spade.
"mind if i watch ya battle for a bit? jester can handle the drowzee without my input."
such words were spoken with the utmost confidence, and jester would indeed dispatch the long-nosed beast quickly enough, his claws presently clawing into the wild pokemon's surprisingly thick hide.

"Thank you, I don't think you can get used to seeing that happen no matter how many times it does." He told her, before returning his attention to the Charmeleon. She was right though, both the trainer and his Pokemon wanted to test out their new abilities. He wondered if the fire lizard learned any new moves from the evolution. [break][break]
"I appreciate the help." Though she seemed a bit overbearing with her approach, Spade didn't mind as he was in far too good of a mood for little things to bother him. Her large Pokemon went on to battle the Drowzee. Boy, did Spade feel bad for the Psychic type Pokemon. [break][break]
Ashley notified Spade of the nearby exeggcute to which he immediately shifted his attention to. For some reason she wanted to watch him battle. Despite the eyes that were now going to be on him, he didn't feel the pressure and instead executed the game plan as always. "This might be too short of a battle though... but if you wish, feel free." He told her. [break][break]
Skōll and Spade both eyed the Exeggcute, which prompted the Pokemon to get defensive as it noticed the apparent interest in itself. Skōll was excited to get started. Though Spade's Pokemon weren't ready to move without his input just yet, aside from his Grovyle and Frogadier, they were more than trained enough to dispatch Pokemon with weak typing swiftly. "Skōll, let's not waste our time... try to take him out in one shot with Flame Thrower." [break][break]
The Charmeleon gathered the flames in his maw, and released it in a rapidly moving stream of fire that erupted out and at the Exeggcute. Spade was almost caught off guard by how much more powerful, and larger the flame was compared to when he was just a Charmander. It appeared that Charmeleon too was a bit surprised by his own power, as the Pokemon stood there for a moment after not even noticing the scorched Exeggcute that laid motionless on the ground a few meters away from them. "We still have a long way to go... but wild grass types almost never stand a chance against this guy." He said, patting his Charmeleon on the head proudly. (Despite the typing on the Pokemon saying Normal/Psychic Exeggcute is Grass/Psychic).

[attr="class","smdbody"]despite the match being an entirely one-sided affair, ash had found herself intrigued by the hot gout of flames that had been breathed by the lizard. she had felt its heat, and admired the coloration and overall size of what had been produced to effectively extinguish the exeggcute consciousness.
"i'm not surprised," ash replied. "i wonder how trained ones would compare, though."
her zoroark stepped up to settle beside the woman, his claws smudged with traces of crimson. the girl would take notice to this quickly, her smile being replaced by a tight frown.
"you didn't kill it, did ya?"
jester merely smiled before shaking his head and gesturing toward the collapsed form of the drowzee. ash peered over her shoulder at it, straining her eyes slightly as she took note of its lightly bleeding hide. but it appeared to be breathing despite the injuries that the fox had inflicted upon its form.
"good boy."
she reached out and offered her dark-type an affectionate scratch behind the ears, the pokemon happily leaning into her touch with a crooning noise. the girl stopped only when she noticed that the clouds that occupied the sky had grown a bit darker, her lips pursing lightly as she eyed them warily.
"we should go soon. this was fun an' all but i should've been in the city by now," ash said.
it pained her to bring the impromptu training session to what felt like an abrupt halt, but she had little choice in the matter; mother nature had, after all, insisted on being an absolute bitch right now. but the sight of two more pokemon slipping into view distracted her once again.
"a meditite."
the words were breathed as ash's eyes grew round at the sight of the pokemon.
"jester!"
she patted her dark-type urgently before thrusting a finger at what appeared to be some sort of monkey.
"that's what rook use to look like. actually..."
ash released her fighting-type companion a few short moments later, the dual-type blinking in mild confusion as the brunette continued to gesture.
"see, they look alike. don't they?"
jester merely cocked his head to the side and released an unconvinced murmur. his trainer rolled her eyes in reaction to this before gesturing for rook to dispatch the meditite.
"go ahead and show jester how much better you are than that thing," ash prompted.
"medi," rook chimed, nodding her head.
"let's make this a one 'an done, alright? ice punch!"
the medicham clenched her right fist closed as it was encased in a chilling blue energy before she rushed to close the distance between herself and the meditite. and while the wild pokemon was capable of dodging the initial blow, it couldn't manage another, the fist connecting with its midsection and causing it to crumple noiselessly.
"nice!"
a light drizzle descended upon them all at that moment.
"ah - fuck! rook - jester - we gotta go!"
