[nospaces][googlefont=Ubuntu] Edward rolled his shoulders to relieve some of the tension gathered there as he exited the town and headed out along route 39 a clearly unhappy Cyndaquil trotting along side him. Giving his starter a sideways glance, the teenager couldn’t help but release an amused snort which only made the Pokémon sour even more and release flames from its back in agitation. Shaking his head Ed spoke aloud “What. Don’t give me that look it was not me that picked up a fight with a water type at the beach right next to the ocean. Of course, you freaking lost.”[break][break] In response the flames on the back of Quake grew hotter and the small Pokémon even spewed out a few embers in warning at the feet of Ed. That didn’t deter him at all though and instead he turned and crouched coming face to face with his starter as if daring it to blast him with Ember. His own expression souring to match that of his Pokémon he continued speaking “It wouldn’t have mattered even if it hadn’t been a water type you still would have lost. Face it you are weak.” [break][break] So, close up the teenager was physically able to feel the heat emitting form the flames of the small Pokémon’s back increase yet he didn’t stop “But that is to be as expected. We just started out and it was not as surprising so suck it up. Besides why do you think we are out here for.” Some of the intensity of the flames bled off in curiosity of his trainer’s plan even if Quake still remained indigent. Seeing that Ed examined his starter a bit more before seemingly being satisfied and rising up. [break][break] “We are out here to start getting you in shape before we go out and wander across the region kicking ass and taking names. What better challenge then starting from nothing and battling your way up till you are on top.” If Quake could have smirked at that moment it would have mirrored the one that sat on Ed’s face as he spoke. Done with the inspirational speeches the teenager marched forward with his starter following after him in search of Pokémon to battle and maybe capture. As they walked a peaceful sort of quiet descended upon them. [break][break] “Also, there is less chance of seeing a water type here then on route 40” Only quick reflexes made him move his head away from the stream of embers that Quake shot out at him. An onslaught of expletives soon joined on the shower of embers. Peace and quiet was just not meant for those two.

[nospaces][googlefont=Ubuntu] Walking through the grassy plains a bit off the road the duo had no luck in encountering any other pokemon beyond a single glimpse or two. It was possible the two may have scared off the few of the timid ones that had been in their way with their loud arguing but the thought didn’t even pass Ed’s mind. Instead he was starting to get a bit annoyed at the lack of progress they were having. Before he could get more agitated the teenager was able to catch a purple smudge from the corner of his eye. [break][break] Not having gotten a good look at the moving Pokémon Ed assumed it was most likely a Rattata or something so with a small smirk begging to tug on his lips he commanded Quake “Quick use Tackle on that Rattata before it gets away. It’s time for use to get some action.” Flames briefly igniting on it back the Cyndaquil obeyed the order dashed in the direction of the moving form of the wild Pokémon. The attack hit but the cry both of them heard was not that of a Rattata as they expected. A quick glance was shared between trainer and starter before they focused towards where the angry hissing was coming from. [break][break] The Ekans rising up from the tall gross with its rattle making an ominous sound and an angry visage it was pretty clear that they had managed to piss it off. Its intimidating glare directed at Quake made the Pokémon take a small step and the flames on its back falter for a bit before they reignited with greater strength as the Cyndaquil made angry noises towards the snake Pokémon. It was obvious his starter was doing it to cover up the misstep and that it had been affected by Ekans presence but still Ed preferred this bluster then outright cowering. [break][break] The snake pokemon wasted no time and attacked, it’s jaw opening up and purple barbs lunching from it towards the Cyndaquil. Seeing that Ed swiftly barked out a set of orders “Quake dodge to the side before transitioning into a Flame charge.” Not needing to be told twice his starter began moving forwards while also side stepping to the left in order to dodge the poisonous projectiles. Thanks to its smaller frame and greater speed at so far away it wasn’t too hard to do so. Continuing to dash forward Quake allowed the flames from it’s back to grow in intensity and size as they enveloped him in a coat of fire. [break][break] Slamming head on into the poison type it let out a shriek of pain as it recoiled backwards but due to being so close the snake was able to wrap its tail around Quake’s body. Before it can begin to squeeze too harshly Ed barked out another order “Quick use Flame Wheel to try and get away.” Curling up and willing it flames to envelops itself Quake tried to break out and roll away from the hold of the Ekans. Despite the damage it dealt it was still not enough to break the hold which was growing tighter as the desperate poison type was trying to end the fight. [break][break] Crying out in pain the Cyndaquil stopped its attack allowing the Ekans to refocus and try to release a stream of Poison sting directly at the fire type. Before it can do so Edward shouted once more “Flame Wheel again and hold it as long as you can Quake!” Not needing to be told twice his starter turned into a ball of flame, rotating beneath the gasp of Ekans and repelling the poisonous barbs. Exposed to so much heat and friction the body of the poison- type finally gave out and with one final cry of pain it fainted. [break][break] Finally, no longer restricted Quake stopped his attack and allowed his flames to die down a bit as he moved to join his trainer. Eyes roaming his starter Ed judged that the damage hadn’t been too bad and they probably could go on. Placing his hands in his pockets he continued to trek through the grassy plains though when his panting pokemon caught up to him Ed clipped out while looking ahead “Good job Quake.”[break][break] Battle Log Quake used Tackle [break][break] Quake's attack lowered by Intimidate [break][break] Ekans used Poison Sting/Quake evaded [break][break] Quake used Flame Charge [break][break] Ekans used Wrap [break][break] Quake used Flame Wheel x2 [break][break] Ekans fainted [break][break] Quake leveled up +2

[nospaces][googlefont=Ubuntu] It had been some time since the last encounter and the duo was still searching for something to face be that pokemon or trainer. Though it seemed something had found them instead because as they were passing through the grass suddenly the earth beneath Quake rumbled. Due to it happening so fast Ed could only watch as a scorpion like pokemon burst through the soil, it’s tiny claw like hands trying to pincer his starter while it’s mandibles bit into it’s flesh. Letting out a cry of pain Quake tried to Tackle the poison type but it didn’t have much of an effect. [break][break] Seeing the Skorupi rearing its tail to stab at his pokemon Ed had to restrain himself from diving in to pry it off his starter before shouting out “Fuck! Quake use Flame Wheel to try and bounce off the damn bug.” Not wasting a second the Cyndaquil was enveloped in a rotating ball of flame. Due his type advantage it wasn’t too hard to break the hold of the bug type and after grinding into it to gain some more momentum Quake bounced up into the air. [break][break] Flames dispersing the fire type hung in the air for a bit before gravity began to take its hold. Seeing the opportunity Ed swiped a hand and called an order “Use the momentum of your fall and finish it off with a Flame Charge.” Crimson once more enveloped and propelled his starter as he began to rocket down. Due to the burn damage from the initial attack having slowed it down the Skorupi was not able to move out of the way in time. Crashing into it there was a small explosion of dust that after clearing out revealed the crumbled and burnt form of the bug and winded and bruised Quake. [break][break] With out waiting for any prompt Edward closed the distance between him and the fire type and picked him up “ Che, damn bug I hope some bird comes and eats it or something.” The Cyndaquil in his grasp spluttered in indignation of being picked up but the teenager ignored it and instead began marching towards what seemed like some trees amidst the plain “Don’t give me that you need to rest and recover strength. So, shut up and don’t struggle the day is far from over.”[break][break] Battle Log Skorupi used Bite break][break] Quake used Tackle [break][break] Quake used Flame Wheel [break][break] Quake used Flame Charge [break][break] Skorupi fainted [break][break] Quake leveled up +2

[nospaces][googlefont=Ubuntu] Sitting under the shade of the tree Ed allowed himself to relax along side Quake. An hour or two had passed since the encounter with the Skorupi and his starter was currently almost up to strength or as much as he could be after the already long day. Leaning against the bark the teenager rummaged in his back pack for a moment before fishing out some food for himself and his pokemon. While eating his eyes did keep on scanning for anything moving just in case after having learned today that vigilance could be quite important when searching the wild for pokemon. [break][break] Despite the fire types apparent easy while eating Ed got a feeling it was keeping an eye out just in case as well even if it wasn’t as visible on its face. Gradually their surroundings began filling with the distinctive croaking of a frog and before long a lone Croagunk appeared in their vision as it lazily shuffled towards them. The moment it spotted them its surprise was easily identifiable on its face. Edwards also didn’t miss the fierce flash of challenge that passed through the poison-type’s eyes and the tensing of its supposedly lax posture. Maybe this was its spot and they were intruding upon it though that didn’t matter neither to trainer and his starter. They would move only if they wanted or by force. [break][break] Despite that fact Ed decided to be diplomatic about the matter and after reaching into his bag once more he grabbed a pack of pokemon food before opening it and placing it a few feet next to him. Some of the tension bled off from the Croagunk’s body as it considered the situation but the alertness of it’s eyes betrayed just how ready it was for violence. It cautiously moved near him before grabbing the pack of food and moving off to sit on the other side of the tree. [break][break] Noticing the incredulity Quake was looking at him with Ed waved him off while muttering “Later. For now, eat.” Watching him for a few more moments the Cyndaquil finally returned to eating after coming to a satisfactory reasoning on its own for his trainer’s decision. For the next half an hour the area was filled with the sounds of pokemon eating and the occasion croak coming from the other side of the tree. Deeming that enough time had passed Ed rose from his sitting position and motion for Quake to follow him. [break][break] Moving to the other side to face the resting Croagunk Ed allowed a smirk to grace his face as he addressed the pokemon “I want you to join my team.” It’s only response to lazily open one eye for a moment before closing it and beginning to croak more loudly as if trying to chase them away with noise. Not deterred and knowing the pokemon possessed a fighting spirit the teenager continued “A challenge then. We battle it out to decide the outcome. We win you come with us and if we lose we’ll leave you alone and even leave another pack of pokemon food.”[break][break] Though half lidded this time both of the frog pokemon’s eyes opened in response and the reaction cemented the fact about the Croagunk’s desire for battle in Ed’s mind. How could it not, the fire in its eyes was unmistakable after all he saw it in the mirror every morning. The smirk on his face turning more savage and excitement bubbling in his tone he spoke “It's decided then.”[break][break] The moment the last syllable left his mouth the Croagunk had already pushed off the ground with its legs and lunched itself directly towards Quake with an intimidating croak. Despite the sudden move though much like his trainer Quake was of similar disposition and after a full day of battling it was more then ready to respond in time. Taking on a silver glow the Cyndaquil met the poison type half way as it slammed into its body. Wincing in pain the Croagunk skid back but as it did its hand slammed into the ground causing a wave of mud to shoot out at Quake. [break][break] So close to one another the fire type couldn’t do anything else but take the hit. Mud covering a bit of his body Quake begun trying to shake it off as it had covered some of the hole where its flames came out of. Not wasting an opportunity, the Croagunk was upon Ed’s starter once more trying to simply jab him with its hand. Unfortunately for it the mud was able to be dislodged just in time and with glee Ed shouted out “Use Flame Wheel!” [break][break] With a cry of determination Quake spun into a fiery ball just as the Croagunk collided with him. For a moment they were locked in standoff as the poison type tried to hold the spinning flame in place. For some reason it seemed to be just too much for the frog pokemon and it was beginning to falter. Much to Ed’s surprise and that of his starter, no doubt, before the Croagunk could be lunched back it released a croak filled with determination and used the momentum of the spin to pick up Quake and throw him behind it and into the tree. [break][break] Despite the impressive feat the attack of his starter had done enough and the Croagunk was panting harshly with burns covering its whole body. With how worn-down it looked Ed decided that the battle was concluded and without further prompt grabbed a poke ball before throwing it in an attempt to capture the poison type. [nospaces] [attr="class","Vgentempbox"] [attr="class","Vgentemptitle"]approved! [attr="class","Vgentempdiv"] Even though that Croagunk really just wanted you to leave it be, there's no way it couldn't be caught after the beatdown it was given.
