Jenna felt the hair raise on the back of her neck; a symptom of the gaze that she could feel burning against her skin. A shadow, stretched large by its wings, soared overhead. It blocked the sun, if only for a moment.[break][break]
“We have company,” and the Ranger was immediately interrupted by a cacophony. The birds had found them. With their arrival, the tall grass seemed to tremble and quake from the beating of their wings and the sound of their jeers. “Sterling!” She yelled out to the Rufflet, catching his attention. Her small bird nodded, knowing what she wanted him to do.[break][break]
As the two Murkrow emerged from the grass, the Rufflet declared one as his opponent. In the distance, Jenna could see the large and pompous outline of the Honchkrow, their main objective, as he roosted on a nearby tree branch. He watched from afar, trying to judge if his top goons would be enough to deter the two Rangers away. Jenna gritted her teeth, knowing it would take more than some dumb birds to make her surrender this mission. Not when their goal was so close.[break][break]
“Aerial Ace!” She called out to her pokemon, watching Sterling strike against one of the dark feathered birds. Their talons tangled together as the Rufflet drove his foe to the ground. The Rufflet was small, but far from weak. The moment their talons clashed, he knew he was stronger.[break][break]
As Sterling's fight unfolded. Jenna let her eyes drift over to Akira, wondering what he had planned. They were partners, whether they wanted to be or not. She had to keep an eye out. “We gotta keep him from leaving!” She said aloud, just as her Rufflet carried the Murkrow up from the ground and flung it at the closest tree; sky drop.[break][break]
The dark-type collided against the trunk of the tree with a resounding crash; the force of the impact managing to shake the branches, disturbing the Honchkrow from his rest. The usually docile Rufflet frayed out his wings, feathers puffed, as he tried to appear larger.[break][break]
He was next.

Judging by the reaction Pro was having and his own sixth sense kicking in, it was show time. The Big boss himself was here but as expected he would not be doing the fighting first. Instead there were two small fries that had to be taken care of before they could get to the main dish.

Akira was in no mood to deal with two little shits when the boss was so close, he had enough of dealing with their shit. But one of the dumb crows decided to stand in their way so Prometheus would deal with it quickly.
[break][break]
”You hear the pipsqueak, light em’ up.” The Murkrow that swooped down at them was met with a Flamethrower. The stream of flames almost consumed the bird but it managed to avoid the attack in just the nick of time; however one of its wings managed to get singed.
[break][break]
Their aim wasn’t the Murkrow, no, they wanted the big guy that was just sitting on the sidelines and watching. The Murkrow wanted to fly away and tend to its wing but figuring what the ranger and his pup were up to continued its original course. Akira could commend its bravery, even if it was stupid for it.

The bird came in, ready to strike at the duo with its wings. ”Flare Blitz.” He figured they return the charge. The two Pokémon collided, Pro wining the clash of the attacks and sending the Murkrow flying into a nearby tree.

It’d been smart if the Pokémon just stayed down but like a persistent idiot the bird tried attacking one last time. Tired by its annoyance Pro simply fired another stream of flames from his mouth at the bird before it could get another chance and this time it stayed down. ”Good, now there was only one left.” Akira spoke, staring up at said individual.

Now it was time for the big boss of this little group of morons. ”Let’s see if he’s really some big Mafioso or if he’s just a coward or lets his goons do all the fighting.” Akira scoffed motioning for Pro to walk up to the stash.

”On my cue set it ablaze. You hear that! You going to keep hiding or come down here and take care of business.” Akira grinned. ”If not your precious little stash here will be turned to ash. Not really good for business.” Whether or not the Pokémon cared that much about the stash was irrelevant, this was a matter of pride. Let’s see what it was made of.

Begrudgingly, the Head Honcho dismounted from the tree branch and prepared for battle. Jenna wondered if it was too good to be true. Akira had taken out the second Murkrow, but were others laying in wait? No, she supposed not. If there were, they would have come to their boss' aide. He was ready to fight on his own. The Ranger could respect that. She could tell he was strong; too strong to be purely wild. Maybe he had been abandoned by a trainer?[break][break]
“We need to keep him from escaping,” and the Ranger withdrew Sterling before he could tangle with the larger foe. Akira could handle the battling aspect of the fight. She would provide the support. She had the perfect pokemon to do it. Another capsule was clenched in her hand and with a snap of the wrist, she deployed its occupant; her Lapras. The large water-type stood out. It was undeniable that she was out of place in the middle of this grassy field... but, in Jenna's mind, it made perfect sense.[break][break]
“You'll have to use Perish Song,” and that was why. Lapis gave a solemn nod, understanding that her Ranger knew what she was doing. She trusted Jenna.[break][break]
The song was solemn and mournful. Lapis' eyes glowed white with depressing intensity and the disturbed ghoulish energy that radiated from her voice drenched the Honchkrow... and drove it into a frenzy. It understood what she was trying to do and prepared to attack the water-type to try and thwart her attempts.[break][break]
It used Dark Pulse. Lapis was too slow to dodge while stranded on land and had no choice but to tank through the blow. Jenna had to hide behind her gentle giant, a hand pressed to her shell to show her support. “He can't get away now!” She shouted to Akira, knowing he could take the reins.

Maybe this kid would make a pretty decent ranger after all.

Akira smirked at the actions the younger ranger took. A lot of young guns would probably try and go for the glory and take on the Honchkrow like an idiot. ”Looks like the little brat is taking one for the team.” Akira began, looking down to Prometheus.
[break][break]
”We can’t let her down now can we? The big boss even took our bait.” Akira’s Growlithe nodded in agreement, ready to take down the large crow. With Perish Song in play this fight had a clear conclusion regardless of what anyone did but Akira was going to end it before it came to that.
[break][break]
”Let’s get the pressure off of them. Flamethrower.” Akira ordered. The little pup next to him shot off a stream of flames from his mouth, catching the Honchkrow off guard which gave it little time to react.
[break][break]
The flamethrower made contact, stopping the Honchkrow’s assault on the poor Lapras. The power being dished out by the Growlithe threw off the Honchkrow, the Big Boss Pokémon believing that the pup wasn’t much to worry about. It was true that there was a power difference but it wasn’t a problem that Akira couldn’t handle as it wouldn’t be the first time.

The large crow had to make a choice, either focus on the Growlithe attacking it or dealing with the Lapras. The more pressing issue was the Lapras but having an annoying dog nipping at you wasn’t going to make that easy.

The Honchkrow devised a scheme, letting out a Haze in the direction of Akira and Pro, hoping that it’d be enough for it to be able to focus on Jenna and Lapras. Unfortunately for the Honchkrow they had a pretty good idea of where it was at. ”Pro, you think you got this?” The Ranger asked the Growlithe.

The Honchkrow was spewing out the gas so it was a pretty straight shot to take it down. The Growlithe let out a confirming bark. ”Flare Blitz, let’s end this!” With the order said the Growlithe lunged into the air, his body bursting in flames as it raced through the air toward the source of the haze.

The Honchkrow believed things were fine until it spotted something extremely bright moving quickly through its haze. Next thing it knew there was a Growlithe shaped rocket crashing right into it. This collision created an even bigger cloud of smoke, consuming the entire area.

When the smoke cleared the first thing Akira spotted was a downed Growlithe. The ranger quickly made his way over to Prometheus, crouching down next to the pup. ”You alright?” The man asked.

The Growlithe looked up to his trainer, a weak expression on his face but a smile nonetheless. Honestly Akira was a bit surprised the Growlithe was putting on a strong face, that Flare Blitz looked more potent than usual. He petted the pup as his eyes wandered over to where the Honchkrow was. The Big Boss was down, and coming down with it was its criminal empire.

Jenna released a long sigh as Prometheus dealt the finishing blow. It gave her the chance to withdraw Lapis before the effects of Perish Song could take hold. Guess she wouldn't have to stop by the Pokemon Center, after all. Her Lapras was nice and safe inside her capsule, away from the wrath of the dark-type mob boss.
[break][break]“Finally.” It felt like it had taken years to complete this mission. The Honchkrow had been harder than she had expected... but, it was all over now. They could head back to Choji and report their success at a Ranger Station.[break][break]
“Well. It's all over now,” and it had gone better than Akira had probably expected. “We should head back.” There was still a tinge of friction, but it seemed as if they had managed to set aside their differences. Her eyes lingered on the Honchkrow, wondering if it was necessary to bind the bird to bring it into custody. Maybe? Maybe not? Shrugging to herself, the girl opted to heave the unconscious bird over her shoulder.[break][break]
He was heavy. Jenna chose to ignore it...but, there was one thing she couldn't ignore; the fact that she had needed help, after all. A partner had been necessary. The young Ranger would never say it aloud, but without Akira, there was a chance that she could have failed.

”Such a pain in the ass.” Akira pulled out a cigarette and lit it, so much for trying to break this habit. The Ranger took a long drag of the cigarette before heading back to Prometheus, kneeling down in front of the Growlithe and petting him.

”You did real good today, Pro.” The Ranger smiled as he scratched the back of the Pokémon’s ears. ”You deserve a rest. Ride in the pokeball till we get back, alright?” Prometheus nodded as Akira then pulled out the Growlithe’s capsule and returned him. What a hard working and good partner.

Now all they had to do was drag this annoying fat ass bird back and let the station deal with it. Akira didn’t say anything to the kid as she mentioned them heading back. All he did was nod and watched as the girl bothered herself with trying to move the large bird.

He should probably help her, considering there was definitely a better way of dealing with that but he found it pretty funny watching her struggle so he kept to himself. The fact that she proceeded not to ask for help was pretty funny to, only if he could record this.

He supposed all things considered the girl wasn’t as bad as he thought she was going to be. Still a pain in the ass and he could have done this by himself but she was alright. Hopefully he could go back to working by himself after this.

It didn’t go horribly but Akria still wasn’t keen on the idea of having a partner around. But he had this sinking suspicion that the jackasses at Ranger HQ would love to throw people at him. If he had to he’d go knock around some heads but for now he’d just be happy it was over.
