A child had run into the burned tower. Outside a man stood looking anxiously in at the old floorboards. His daughter had desired to see her dead mother. A desire that no doubt every child who had lost a parent has. [break][break] Zuri had never known that pain. However, the deep blue almost black aura that radiated from the man gave her the feeling. Normally she could distance herself from others emotions but this was overwhelming. Somewhere between depression and flat-out despair. The tower wasn't exactly safe and she knew that this despair came from losing his wife and the possibility of losing his child. [break][break] "I'm sure I can handle it," Zuri stated reassuringly. Finding the child was more an issue than convincing her to come home. That and the overflowing emotions were making her a bit dizzy. The sooner she was inside and away from him the better.[break][break]
A childs emotions were pure to be sure however they often wavered. It was ten times easier to get a child to smile than an adult. Tickling, playing a game, even singing a song could change their mood even when they are being stubborn. Children simply can't remain purely sad or angry when faced with something they like. Unlike adults who can dwell on the bad.[break][break]
The Burned Tower hasn't had electricity in forever which left Zuri to rely on her pokemon for this. She brought out her chinchou, Ezili and held her in her arms. Then Sidhe who could see very well in the dark with those big eyes. Not to mention Sidhe was cute and something a little girl could be drawn to.[break][break]
"Ahh, just a moment. someone else should be along to help as well," the father said making Zuri pause at the doorway.[break][break]
"Alright," she wasn't sure what more to say. She'd just have to wait for the additional assistance. Not that she minded since the Burned Tower was rather large to walk through alone. Odds were the girl was lost and huddled down somewhere. [break][break][break][break]

He didn’t know why, but there was something rather… compelling with this particular request that had been fielded out for people to take. While it did involve going into the Burned Tower in Enju Ecruteak and looking for a girl who hadn’t gone home after being gone an entire evening, there was still something… he couldn’t help but place when it came to the tone of the requester, who was the daughter’s father. …reminds me of something that happened back home… was all he thought of as he quickly agreed to take on the request; and at the same time was informed he’d be going with a companion—as the details did specify that there was a need for someone who could possibly see and talk with the spirits of dead people. He definitely had experience from Mount Pyre back home (although he did find that most of those who claimed that they could see the souls of people and Pokémon who’d gone on ahead were on the slightly older side), having gone there many times over the course of his…journey. That time. Why does it still feel like it was yesterday… he continued to himself in the back of his mind as he eventually found himself climbing the short staircase that led up to the Burned Tower, which stood much shorter in comparison to its sister tower not too far away, but still within the city limits. No wonder the father’s worried, this place looks like it could collapse at any time despite it already being burned down… he pondered as he took a look at the contents of the messenger bag he’d packed along for the request. He’d taken note that the young girl had most likely spent the night out in the cold (and was probably hungry, not to mention freezing) so he’d gone and picked up some sandwiches and a few bottles of water, all of which were now within the bag he had with him. His coat he could definitely spare for the trip back, since he figured, it was thick and heavy enough to keep their lost charge warm. All too soon he’d reached the top of the steps and saw his companion—and was promptly surprised that he would be accompanied by someone who looked to be around his age, if not maybe slightly younger? Well, at least I’m not going into this alone… he mused privately as he raised a hand in greeting at the two who were waiting for him. “Apologies for taking a bit, I picked up some food and water for your daughter,” he began, while mentally adding on to the sentence with, “…she’s definitely alive. Just have to believe. Hopefully nothing too bad happened while she spent the night out here by herself…” and then turning to his female companion. “I’m Lars. Shall we get going? We wouldn’t want to keep him waiting too long,” he said to his companion by way of introduction before gesturing with a head tilt towards the clearly anxious father who looked like he was at his wits’ end. level 17 MADE BY ★MEULK

★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri had to say she was impressed when her partner showed up. She had just considered getting her out of there. Being in there all night she was no doubt hungry and thirsty. It also raised the question if any of the bathrooms in there were actually usable. Not a pleasant thought.
"Zuri, a pleasure," she responded as he introduced himself. The blonde nodding in agreement to start the search. The quicker she was away from the father the better.
She headed inside feeling the floor bend ever so slightly with her weight. The inside had old scorch marks but it was the rotten and wet wood that posed the most threat. Years of weather were slowly eating away at the place.
"Watch your step," Zuri said walking around a small hole in the floor. She questioned whether the girl would be above or below them. She may have climb towards the sky to be closer to heaven however if something happened to her and the floor gave away she could be below them. So far she could only see the aurae of a few pokemon that roamed this dangerous place calling it home. Several joltiks peppered her view with dots of color and were rather distracting. The larger pokemon were mostly ghost types considering few of them touched the ground.
"Sidhe, try asking around about her please," Zuri said the espurr nodding before heading off on his own. The small cat-like pokemon opting to ask the joltiks rather than risk injury from the ghosts.
"You a friend of the family," Zuri asked deciding to make small talk as they walked. It wasn't like they were going to find her right at the entrance. Her father had looked but not ventured too far into the crumbling ruins of someplace she guessed was once beautiful.

Quickly taking note of his companion’s name, Zuri, he then followed her into the open-to-the-sky Burned Tower, his nose crinkling slightly at the smell of what he guessed was either damp or rotting wood. Definitely not a good sign, he thought to himself as he blinked in time to see a small hole near where he was headed. Making a note to avoid any of the holes that they would come across, he then watched as one of her companion Pokémon then went off to communicate with some of the little bright-yellow Bug-types that were skittering around here and there. I only have Suijin, but he’s a complete derp face and I don’t know if having him out would be a good idea… he might cause more damage to the place, but more pairs of eyes are better than none… he thought to himself as he reached for a small shrunken-down marble and popped it to full size and watched as a flash of red light then shot out and transformed into a Marshtomp that landed on the sagging floorboards not too far from where he stood. For once Sui wasn’t being stupid, in fact he looked more than a little nervous to be around such a place that was hopefully not in a state of collapse, what with so many wild ‘mons poking around. Lars then felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle, before he looked around him—was there something watching them from the shadows behind him? He couldn’t tell.Ghost-types creep me out mostly. Except that one. Wonder how he is… he continued to ponder to himself as the Marshtomp also took a look behind his companion but finding nothing there. Lars couldn’t shake the feeling that he was being watched, though… He then heard Zuri’s question and considered the options he had in front of him, but ultimately decided to tell her the reason why he’d taken the request in the first place. “To be honest… something similar like this happened to me back where I come from… only it was with my youngest brother, and it was up on the slopes of Mount Pyre,” he began quietly. “You could say my sister was in the father’s position, and since there was nobody else to guard the house if she went out to search for him herself, I told her I’d do it,” he added as he kept his ears perked up for signs of anything that would stand out and catch them by surprise. ★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri listened to his faint story. It was short and to the point, leaving out any details. She didn't have to look at him to know it was probably a painful memory. She wasn't going to press about it but it was on a mountain. Which meant he probably had some climbing skills. Something that was good to know.
"It's good to know someone here has some search and rescue skills," Zuri stated in response. "I'm simply a middle school science teacher. I'm decent with kids but terrible with people. I can read emotions through aurae. It's a strange thing to know what everyone is feeling."
As a kid herself even her own twin brother was creeped out by the way she could tell when something was wrong. Or would ruin surprises by saying their parent's auras were bright with the happiness that came with giving another a present. Her ability had her keep her distance from others or be consumed by emotions that weren't hers. She turned out okay though. She didn't despise her gift but rather took just a little bit of pride in it.
"I can control the range of my ability. But it can never be shut off," Zuri stated. It had taken a lot of practice to pull it into where one had to be within three inches for her to see their aura. She was doing better in crowds thanks to that but she still felt out of place. Seeing faces and no emotions it was honestly more alien to her.
Sidhe returned moments later the cat sharing his connection with his trainer. The joltik's hadn't been too much help about finding the girl. But they had known for a fact that she went upstairs. Beyond that, they still had no idea which floor she was on. The joltiks had said all the floors were safe but they are the size of a pinhead pretty much so neither was taking their word for it.
"She's upstairs but none of them know which floor," Zuri said sharing what Sidhe told her. Zuri pondered releasing her duskull to try and find her. Going through the floors would be no problem for him but he might scare her. A giant floating mask didn't exactly scream friendly. "Go ahead and see if any of them will help Sidhe. We'll head on up."
"I say we don't go past the third floor. The tower isn't exactly stable so if she went past that point we'll need someone lighter to bring her down," Zuri surmised. Honestly, she doubted the child went past the second. This place was creepy as was. Imagining a child in here late at night with their imagination. She's probably scared and in one of the corners imagining shadows moving.

“Sui, take the rear guard, will you?” he asked his Marshtomp, still unable to place the prickly feeling he was picking up on. He could…sense, somehow, that there was something around that was watching them; but when he’d turn around to take a look and try and catch whatever was watching them, the strange feeling would temporarily disappear…before returning in full force. That definitely doesn’t sit too well with me… at least with Sui on rearguard, I’d at least have some warning before whatever’s watching us from the shadows comes out and makes its presence known… he thought to himself as he rubbed his hand behind his neck in an attempt to calm himself down. “It does, which is why I immediately took this request… we’re on a rescue mission here,” he began quietly as he continued to walk around the sagging floor—being careful not to fall into more holes that he’d spotted as they headed deeper into the place. As he listened to Zuri’s explanation on her special ability, he filed the information away (and would look over it later) before asking, “How difficult is it to live with something like that, being able to pick up on emotions much like a Ralts can…?” all the while keeping his ears peeled just in case something came sneaking up on them. All too soon, the little feline ‘mon that was in his companion’s arms earlier eventually returned, and he looked up to what remained standing of the tower—was it safe to go up there? If he had a Flying-type with him he could definitely send it to scout ahead, but at the moment he didn’t have one as of yet so this was going to be a bit more complicated to actually do. “I see a staircase leading up over there,” he eventually pointed out, squinting ahead and spotting the outline of a set of steps that led up to the next floor. “Although I can’t guarantee the structural integrity of it if we both went up at the same time… I can go ahead for a bit and take a peek and see if the next floor’s safe for both of us to continue searching. How’s that sound?” he asked Zuri a few moments later. (hover for level) MADE BY ★MEULK

★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri pondered his offer. She was lighter so the steps would be less of a problem for her but he would eventually have to go up them. He'd probably be more difficult to pull out if he fell through. But he was the one more at risk whether he went up first or last. At least if she was last she'd be on the base floor and be able to get help quicker than if he fell through on the steps and she'd have to find a way to climb over him.
"That's fine by me," Zuri answered walking over to stand off to one side of the steps. She would answer his question from before as he headed up.
"I won't lie it was hard. As a child, I had no control over it. People would walk by the house and I could see their aura's through the walls. I'd stare and talk to them for hours. It scared my brother. Then in school, I saw colors and not faces the only way I could tell them apart was by their voices. Some were amused by my ability constantly asking which color they were. I was eventually sidelined in pretty much everything. It was a bit difficult but I never once thought of it as a curse. I just had to learn to control it and I did. I had it mostly mastered by high school I could withdraw my power to where they had to be within a foot of me. Made things a bit easier but it was odd seeing people without color to me," Zuri explained.
"It's sort of the reason I became a teacher. Children's emotions are a lot easier to read and their problems easier to solve. I figured the best way to help people was to help their children," Zuri said explaining why she became a teacher. It was probably an odd thought a medium being a teacher. Yet, she did have a passion for it. She could help with bullying, homework, or home issues because she could see when they were hurting or confused. For children, the world has yet to become complicated.
"How does it look up there," she asked looking up the steps. She'd have to question his past now. Not exactly fair if she laid her past bear and not him. She wouldn't ask about his brother but maybe why he had come this way. Mountian Pyre was a long ways off.

They’d eventually arrived at the staircase, and it was here Lars looked down at Suijin. “Keep an eye around her, okay? If you see anything, let me know right away,” before receiving a nod from the dual-type and coming to join his friend’s female companion at the base of the stairwell he began to slowly climb. Taking note of the holes and rickety-sounding steps he’d lightly treaded on, he listened as Zuri explained the finer points of her ability. Man, that really must’ve… sucked, he thought to himself, carefully testing some of the other higher steps by applying some pressure on them. Despite the smell of mold, he found that they were reasonably steady, and once he’d managed to poke his head up to see the next story above, he felt the hairs on the back of his neck prickle before taking a quick look around and heading back down, being careful as he picked his way down. “The steps are a little rickety, and there’re some places that’re rotted through. But it held my weight up reasonably well, so I’m pretty certain we can both manage this. But we have to be careful coming down, I don’t know how long it’ll hold up,” he said once he’d found his way down and eventually dusted his hands off behind him. “Did you see anything, Sui?” he asked the Marshtomp, who shook his head but still looked around rather nervously. “So… the reason why I came along on this is… asides from being familiar to what I’d experienced back home on Mount Pyre chasing my younger brother down, he’d… he actually went to visit our mother’s grave there, quite similar to what we’re doing out here right now,” he began as he looked up at the staircase that led to the next floor. “I had to cut my journey short when I got a message from my sister that he’d gone missing on the mountain, and if I was anywhere nearby, to bring him back. What we weren’t expecting was that he’d actually gone to Pyre and gotten himself lost up there, and he’d lost his own Pokémon companion in the process too,” he continued a few moments later, now rubbing his hands together. Was the wind chilly, or was that something watching them again from the shadows…? He couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling as he looked around again, paying particular attention to a shadowy patch that was half-buried in darkness. He then blinked hard, before looking back up at the staircase again. “Shall we get climbing, then?” he asked Zuri a few moments later. (hover for level) MADE BY ★MEULK

★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri nodded at his explanation of the steps. Sounded just like any other part of the building she couldn't help but to notice his yellow aura. What were he and his pokemon scared of? Her thought halted there though as he explained about his brother a bit more. A grave on a mountain; must be a family tradition or something.
"I can't imagine losing mine," Zuri responded in response to the idea of losing ones pokemon. She may be rough on them from time to time but she did love them. Even her troublemaking duskull.
This time she realized he was looking towards something in the shadows. He was definitely wary of something and it had her looking at those shadows as well. A light purple aura permeated the darkness but the more they stared the more the color changed slowly becoming darker. She was very much aware of the colors meaning.
"Mischief," Zuri said turning back to him as he mentioned going upstairs. "Not the good kind either. The longer we stay the bolder it will grow. Let's do this."
Zuri wasted no time heading up the steps. Her footwork light as she practically pranced up the steps with vigor. She'd rather avoid a battle in this place if at all possible. Especially here on the second floor. The longer they were here not only the bolder it would become but the more likely it was to do something once they found the child. Children were easy to give nightmares too and then feed off them. It was one of the reasons Gastly's were not common in households with children.
"Ezili mind using an electro ball," Zuri said withdrawing her power somewhat so she could see the flooring a lot better. The chinchou in her arms complied tossing out an orb of electricity that floated across the floor. It lit the place up decently and the stuttering electricity causes a few pokemon to scurry away. A faint whimper could be heard as it died out about halfway in. Whatever whimpered seemed to be on the other side of the room. She let her ability expand again to see the dark turquoise aura of sadness and fright it was like a ball though and she couldn't be sure if it was actually her. Zuri took a step forward when Sidhe ran up the steps in a panic making her pause.
"The ghosts know we are here for her. They don't seem to keen on letting a food source get away," Zuri said frowning as she translated the words in her head. "One thing at a time. First the girl then the ghosts." If they really wanted her they wouldn't risk fighting up here where she could fall through the floor. They'd no doubt try to catch them on their way out.

“Let’s get moving, and fast,” he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. The prickly feeling refused to go away—and even his Marshtomp approached them while looking over at the same place where even Zuri was looking right now. He stood guard as she mounted the stairs first, before looking around and letting Suijin go up right after her. “Sui, be careful of the holes. You’ll see them as you go,” he remarked as he kept his eyes on the corner where the creepy feeling was coming from. He knew that the longer they stayed in here, the worse the chances of them getting snuck up on increased. Once his Marshtomp had finally made it to the top, Suijin then stuck his head down and then waved one of its limbs at his companion. “Alright, I’m coming,” he said as he retraced the steps he’d taken earlier before finding himself up on the next floor. While the prickly feeling up here wasn’t as bad as it was on the floor below, he squinted into the darkness—while his eyes had somewhat adjusted to the dim light permeating the area, the strange feeling he was picking up on still put him on edge. Seeing an Electric-type fire off an attack at nothing in particular, he then realized that it was to check if there was something up ahead. “How far in is she,” he asked her a few moments later as he squinted as best as he could manage—and while he could pick out faint shapes in the dark, the rest of the place was shrouded in pretty much pitch. This is the reason why I need a Fire-type at least… he thought to himself, before looking down at his Marshtomp. “Sui, stay close to us. Let us know if anything sneaks up behind us,” he muttered to the Marshtomp, before hearing a grunt in confirmation. “Let’s go. But quietly,” he added, this time to Zuri—the floor above gave him much more creepy vibes than that prickly feeling down below… (hover for level) MADE BY ★MEULK

★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. "Other end, I think she's behind something," Zuri answered Lars. Her gaze no wavering from the curled up yellow ball unless they spooked it and it ran away from them. She was eighty percent sure it was the girl though. All she wanted to do was call her name to reassure her they were human and here to help.
With Lars words of quiet though she kept herself in check. She wasn't sure if it'd help or not though. There were pokemon all over the place it probably had already spread that there were humans here. The question more or less became could they coax the child out and her away from this place. Their steps weren't that quiet as they progressed through the floorboards protesting their weight as they passed.
Ezili who had been quite in her arms for awhile whined as the pokemon had pretty good eyesight in the dark. She could see the scorch marks on the ceiling and upper parts of the walls. This wasn't a fun place to be and the naturally skittish pokemon was becoming even more so. She buried her head into her trainer's chest willing for them to be out of this place quickly.
Sidhe took up the rear with Sui. The espurr's ears twitching regularly hearing things they couldn't. He was on edge but he was a noble pokemon he'd defend his trainer thick and thin. The only problem with ghosts was the fact they could float through things they could literally attack from anywhere.
It wasn't long before they were on the other side of the room. A wooden desk sat on its side in the corner. That was where she was and Zuri was more sure of it now as her outline was a lot more defined this close. She pulled back her ability so she no longer could view the aura.
"Hello," she called out softly. "Terry?"

While he only had one Pokémon on him at the moment, the strange prickly feeling wouldn’t stop bothering him the deeper they progressed through the place, the more the darkness…seemed to press down upon them. While the Marshtomp didn’t find it as bothersome (and was surprised but relieved to see that he was joined by another Pokemon with the rear guard), even he was on edge due to the creepy dank feeling of the place. Lars made sure to keep Zuri within sight—for some reason the deeper they went into the place; the more unsettling things became. Like, he couldn’t exactly define what was wrong—just that being around so many Ghost-types really unnerved him. Even if I did have him back home, he was really the only one I could tolerate having around. I don’t know why they all creep me out so much… he thought to himself as he kept an eye on his companion as they made their way through the area. The floorboards creaked and shuddered underneath them, so trying to slip through the place as quietly as possible was literally rendered moot at that point. He could feel the prickly, unnerving sensation settling around him; the fine hairs on his arms were standing up and he didn’t realize it until he rubbed his arms a few moments later. Eventually, they’d reach the opposite end of the room near an overturned desk. It was here Zuri began to softly call out for the young girl, and he stood guard near her, accompanying the Marshtomp and the other feline Pokémon that was beside his Suijin. He thought he could hear a muffled sobbing from behind said desk, like the owner didn’t want to be found. “Your father’s worried about you,” Lars began softly, after Zuri called out for the young girl. “He’s waiting for you to come home, he’s down outside the tower,” he added a few moments later. ★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri nodded at his words. The girls sobbing becoming just a tad softer as she listened. She still refused to come out though and forcing her out just may leave her kicking and screaming. Not something either of them should want. Dealing with a tantrum girl and whatever lurked in the shadows.
"He is very worried and very sad. He scared of losing you like your mom," Zuri said keeping her voice low and bending down closer so she could hear her. "He isn't the only one. I see peoples feeling through auras. Your moms really scared for you too," she lied. She couldn't actually see the woman. "She's been watching over you. Been trying to tell you to stay strong for your dad. She doesn't like seeing either of you in pain and she wishes to be here but can't. Not in the same way. She'll always be watching though waiting for the time you're a family again."
Her words must have done something. A faint mommy coming from behind the desk. She was at least responsive now when meant they could talk her out of hiding.
"I know its scary but would you let us take you to your dad," Zuri said hearing sniffling in response. Two arms reaching out to be picked up and out. Zuri backed away so he could get in and pick her up.
Unfortunately, Zuri was holding the only real light source and putting her down would only limit the light they got towards the ceiling. Where she could begin to see faces poking in and out like a game of whack-a-mole. Their curiosity was growing by the second and upon seeing a child grew just a tad malicious. They were getting hungry for what nightmares they may give them.
"I hate to rush but the ghosts are becoming restless," Zuri said turning towards the entrance. A few colors flew by disappearing into the ground. It seems they were going to try and cut them off on their way out on the ground floor. They didn't want them dead by falling through couldn't feed that way. At least the ground floor was more stable so they could trust it more.

Lars didn’t know if she could actually ‘see’ the spectre of the child’s mother, but there was something that struck a chord within the young girl. Eventually, a pair of arms reached out from behind the desk (with some sniffling) and he quickly crouched down and picked her up, before holding her close to him. “Just hold on to me, okay?” he said softly, before standing up and looking around…and then the weird prickly feeling intensified. He could feel the hairs on the back of his neck suddenly stand up again; but it was nothing compared to what Zuri could probably pick up on. “Go on ahead,” he said in Zuri’s direction, before looking down at his Marshtomp, who then nodded and shifted into a battle-ready stance. “Sui, you know what to do just in case things get too wild. Attack only when they provoke you, don’t rush into this recklessly. I know you want to do crazy stuff but now’s not the time. Got that?” he said in his Pokémon’s direction, who perked up at being mentioned, but deflated slightly at what Lars told him. Nonetheless, the Marshtomp kept an eye out on the eyes that he could now see—which were getting to be too many for its liking. Growling softly, as he really didn’t want to lash out unless it was absolutely necessary, the dual-type kept an eye out on the rear as he then looked back in the direction they’d come from. “Let’s make this quick,” he muttered to himself, before looking at the young girl he was hanging onto. “If it gets too scary, you can hide in my coat. Don’t worry about the ghosts, okay? We’re here to get you out safely,” he whispered reassuringly in the young girl’s ear, before casting another look around the place. The prickly sensation was getting worse by the second, and the longer they stayed here, the worse things could become. (hover for level) MADE BY ★MEULK

★ Do what scares you, then you'll have the heart of a lion. Zuri nodded as she watched Lars hold onto the girl. She took the lead knowing she was safe in his arms. Her footfalls were sure as she watched the ground in front of her. It was hard to tell distance through the floor but they were small enough she knew they wouldn't be grabbing them from below.
"Sidhe go ahead of us. Distract them," Zuri ordered the espurr who nodded. The cat taking off across the room and down the steps. A faint noise being heard from the ground floor as he got their attention. Zuri skipped steps going down. Ready to play defense so he could get through with the girl. Unlike most people, she had little fear of ghosts.
At the bottom of the steps, she made her next command. Ezili releasing an electro ball towards the ceiling cutting off those who tried to follow from above. Sidhe meanwhile was dancing around off to one side avoiding ghostly claws that were trying to catch him. Thank goodness for being able to read minds and being able to run on all fours.
"Make a break," Zuri said to him slowing her steps. "I'll play defense." Ezili released another electro ball at the ceiling holding off the ghosts again. Their screeches of anger vibrated through the place causing even the other inhabitants to curl into their hidey holes.
"Louder does not mean stronger," Zuri huffed. "Yell all you want. I'll pummel you lot myself if I have to." And she would, though normal attacks didn't work it wouldn't stop her from doing it.
