If I can't evade my fate

The wild pokemon were persistent. The canopy of the forest was so dense it was hard to determine the time of day. Trainers were always getting lost in this place. Jenna knew that when she had to navigate this place, it was best done with a traveling companion.[break][break] “Okay, so if this is right, we gotta take the left up ahead.” The ranger said as she stared at the map laid out in front of her. Her finger charters their course, roaming over the faded print. She had printed the map from the Pokemon Center in the last town and apparently they had been low on ink. She had to keep her cell phone raised over it, flashlight on, just to see what she was looking at.[break][break] Without a cell signal, the device had no other purpose.[break][break] She clicked off the light and returned her phone to one of her many pockets. “Think we'll find anything worth keeping?” Jenna twisted her head to look back at Oswald. This was the second time they had met up. After a few trade exchanges, they seemed to have fallen into a mutual arrangement. They would pass pokemon back and forth. She had given him a Drilbur and he had given a Togepi. If either of them was presented with a pokemon that would not fit the mold of their party, they had a way to re-home them. If I can't evade my fate

Jenna hummed at Oswald's suggestion, wringing the map as she rolled it up and returned it back to her bag. “Well, normally I'd be tempted, but I dunno about doing it in a place like this.” If scary stories gave the inhabitant Ghost-types any ideas, she'd run screaming all the way back to Hiwada. She knew she could do it, too.[break][break] Jenna rose back up to her feet, releasing her Rufflet from his capsule. “Rise and shine, Sterling.” The fluffy adolescent settled atop her shoulder, eyes tightly shut as if he had just been woken from a nap. “We got some work to do today,” and Jenna encouraged the sleepy bird to come to life when she scratched the top of his head, helping any feathers that were preparing to molt. He had a hard time reaching those spots, so it was her job to help him groom. He chirped in thanks, finally opening his eyes to take in the world around him.[break][break] And he noticed the wild pokemon that were starting to gather. From the wood work, two wild pokemon had chosen to make their presence know. A pink wormadam hung from a nearby tree. A Eevee had walked into the middle of the path–snaking between the trees.[break][break] Sterling made his decision, hoping off her circle to take to the air. He circled the Eevee, indicating his choice. “Well, guess he called dibs. I'll leave the other one to you.” A part of Jenna was almost tempted to try and capture the small brown pokemon, but she had already raised an Eevee of her own–Aeon might not take too kindly to finding out he had a new sibling.[break][break] Her Rufflet initiated the fight with Aerial Ace, swooping down to try and catch the Eevee by surprise–but the normal type was ready. Just as Sterling lunged, the normal-type had used detect, allowing it to anticipate his movements. The brown pokemon easily ducked and swerved around his attack, retaliating with a fast take-down to try and bring Jenna's bird down from the sky.[break][break] It failed. In the pokemon's rush to initiate an attack, Sterling had already given a strong flap of the wings, allowing him to soar above the attack.[break][break] The second Aerial Ace worked far better a second time. He slammed his body into the side of the normal-type, only to be surprised when it bit onto one of his talons with a fierce grip–trying to keep him from his dive-bombing tactics. Jenna wasn't fazed. When her Rufflet looked back to her in surprise, she gestured with a thumbs-up, pointing upward.[break][break] He understood. His other talon sunk into the fur of the normal-type and lifted up. The Rufflet used Sky Drop to tear the normal type up from the ground, and when the canopy of the trees kept him from going any higher, he chucked the normal type back down to the ground with a hard toss that allowed him to break free of its bite.[break][break] “Now, time for the finisher.” Brave Bird. Sterling collided back down to earth, both talons crushing against the Eevee's chest, knocking the air out of the poor thing. | ”don’t tell me your scared, are you?” Oswald teased, chuckling a bit to himself before eventually shrugging. Still it was probably the better idea that they didn’t but it had been a bit since Oswald camped out in a place like this, maybe he was just curious about how it would go.
The types of Pokémon would change at night too and that’d be a great opportunity to find something new and maybe something worth recording in his journal. But he was going to have to save that for another time, unless he had a bit of time before they left ot get something of note in there.
When Jenna’s Rufflet alerted the duo as to the wild Pokémon that had appeared Oswald reached for his own Eevee’s pokeball, releasing the Pokémon from his capsule. Upon release the Eevee stretched and let out a cute little yawn before turning to his trainer, wondering why he was summoned.
”Looks like we’ve got a show to perform.” Oswald gestured to the Wormadam who was now carefully watching the duo. Merlin nodded, ready to take on the bug type and get this over with so he could go back to relaxing. ”Quick Attack.” And with that the Eevee charged.
As the Eevee charged a barrier of blue light surrounded the Wormadam and Merlin smacked right into it. ”Ooooooh, that looked like it hurt.” The bug type had used protect, completely blocking Merlin’s attack. ”You alright?” The Eevee nodded, he wanted revenge now.
”Alright, use Swift!” As the star based attack flew at the Wormadamn Oswald was pretty sure it tried to use Protect again but this time it failed and it was instead pelted with the series of stars. ”Let’s keep this up.” They didn’t have many options so again the Wormadam was hit with a barrage of stars.
This time the Wormadam went for a Tackle, basically throwing itself off the tree it was on and crashing into Merlin. The Eevee retaliated with a Quick Attack, knocking the bug type a good distance away from him.
”Don’t let up, Swift.” As long as they kept up their attacks it didn’t matter if the Wormadam had a somewhat type advantage in the battle, eventually it would go down like everything else.
And that is exactly what happened, the consecutive and non-stopping attacks eventually took their toll. ”Good Job.” Oswald praised, while petting the Eevee.

If I can't evade my fate
[attr="class","therivmid"] [attr="class","therivmid1"] Oswald's question was met with a resounding, “No.” Of course she wasn't scared. The Ranger didn't have a reason to be and she would have liked to keep it that way. “I just... don't want to take any unnecessary risks.” Spoken like a true Ranger.[break][break] After their first encounter, there had been enough time for them to pair up and start the journey into the dense forest. The small dirt path did little to breach the fortress of trees that flanked them at both sides. The soil was damp and cold, making the Ranger wonder if it had rained recently. The canopy kept the sun from burning up the wetness, keeping it contained. It could have rained a month ago and it would have lingered in a place like this.[break][break] There would be pokemon that would be empowered by these conditions. All this moisture would be good for the grass-types.[break][break] Sterling helped to make navigating a bit easier. If they chose to go one direction, he could go ahead and double check. If it was a dead-end, he would return to Jenna's shoulder and they could avoid wasting time. The forest was quiet –something the girl hadn't been expecting. She didn't like the silence. It didn't feel natural. It made her eyes dart from one tree to the next, anxious to see if anything was hiding... though she did a good job of hiding these concerns. “Maybe the migration forced some pokemon out of this place?” With such a large displacement, there had to be patches where there would be no pokemon present.[break][break] Eventually, the trees parted, coming to a clearing where a small spring awaited them. The canopy was less thick. More light was able to reach them.[break][break] Above the water, there was a lone Yanmega. It coasted over the water, appearing to be aimless and bored. Jenna glanced at her Rufflet and the distant wild pokemon... and when she made eye contact with the creature, she knew a battle was ready to begin.[break][break] Sterling dismounted from her shoulder, ready to initiate. “Let's start you off with Hone Claws. I don't know what this thing might have in store.” He seemed to agree, following her commands by flexing his talons; a strange energy seeming to collect at the sharp tips. That temporary boost would augment his attacks, but only for the duration of this fight...[break][break] The Yanmega charged. The hard vibration of its wings deafening the Ranger's ears. Without hesitation, the creature seemed to multiple right before her eyes. Multiple copies appeared, all of them swarming the clearing. It would have been impossible to guess which copy was real... but she didn't have to.[break][break] Her Rufflet used Defog. All it took was a hard swing of both wings, releasing forth a gust of wind that blew with such force it cleared the illusions–the Yanmega was alone once more, but it was attacking. It slashed through the air with its body, creating a wake of focused air that collided against her pokemon; Air Slash.[break][break] The Ranger flinched at the move, wondering if her pokemon would do the same. He didn't.[break][break] Sterling charged through the air, trying to act unfazed by the damage it had dealt. Without a moment of hesitation, he used Aerial Ace. The speed he had gathered and the power he had stored from Hone Claws collided against the Bug-Type with tremendous force, finally rendering the buzzing nuisance unconscious.[break][break] The Ranger breathed a sigh of relief. | Booo, she was no fun! It was alright, maybe there’d be another time to have a nice camp out. Her protests were fair so Oswald wasn’t really going to fight her on this; getting constantly swarmed by Pokémon wasn’t fun.
As they moved deeper into the forest Merlin had quickly hopped onto the back of his trainer. It appeared that the Eevee didn’t want to get his fur wet and covered in dirt. ”You know, one of these days I’m going to have you carry me.” Oswald laughed, his Eevee making a sly grin. He spoiled this little shit sometimes.
The Rufflet at Jenna’s side was a lot of help; it was nice to have someone helpful. A lot of Oswald’s Pokémon had some sort of attitude about them that was a bit counterproductive at times when serious work needed to be done. Part of it was of course his fault but he was working on it.
The Ranger had made an interesting inquiry, one that Oswald himself had been thinking about quite a bit. ”Hmm I was thinking something similar actually.” Oswald began as he pulled out his journal to read some notes that he had written down not long ago.
”It’s possible; this migration has been doing some real wild stuff.” He had been distracted with his notes that he almost didn’t notice the clearing that they had came to. ”You know, minus the giant death dragonfly this place is quite beautiful.” And then there was another Pokémon that Oswald caught just staring at them.
It was a Sunflora, and it didn’t move or make a noise, it just stared. ”Well that’s kinda creepy.” Oswald commented. Merlin hopped off his trainer and went to inspect the grass type next to them which was probably a bad idea.
Oswald was going to let Merlin learn this on his own, the Eevee needed to use that furry head of his. Merlin began to sniff the Sunflora, swatting its leaf arms with his paw, he was having too much doing that. After a while of this the Sunflora finally moved, slapping the ever loving shit out of the Eevee.
Oswald did his best not to laugh and instead just winced, a bit of a smirk on his face. Merlin was understandably pissed off and attacked the Sunflora, using Quick Attack. The Sunflora endured the hit, smirking at the Eevee and edging him for more.
The Eevee was more than happen to oblige, this time using Swift instead of Quick Attack. It was odd the Sunflora was just letting Merlin attack it, there had to be something up. In the corner of his eye he could see Jenna fighting the Yanmega, she seemed to be handling herself alright so there was no need to worry.
”Merlin, I don’t trust that thing. Be careful.” Oswald warned, the Eevee snapping out of his rage for a moment and heeding his trainers words. It didn’t matter much as the Sunflora finally made its move after all.
It used Petal Dance, which took both Merlin and Oswald off guard as the attack was quite powerful. The first wave Merlin managed to avoid by taking cover behind a tree on the edge of the clearing. The second wave however, the Eevee was hit which caused him to land in some mud. That wasn’t good, that wasn’t good at all.
The Sunflora was now confused but Merlin was beyond pissed now that he was dirty. At this point he probably wasn’t going to listen to a damn thing Oswald said, and that was backed up on how the Eevee just charged at the Sunflora.
Due to its own confusion the Sunflora was too busy hitting itself to fight back against Merlin’s attacks. Being in a rage, the Eevee continuously attacked, not giving the Sunflora a moment to realize what was going on. When it finally came to it was being attacked yet again by a Quick Attack, and this time the attack kept the grass type down. Merlin eventually calmed down, still a bit depressed by how dirty he was.
”Alright, c’mere you big baby. Let’s get you cleaned up.” Something was happening with Merlin. As the Eevee turned to face Oz it’s body was enveloped with a white light and his body started to change form.
Merlin was evolving, something that Oswald hadn’t put much thought into before. Eevees could evolve into some many different things and quite honestly, Oswald wasn’t sure what he wanted his Eevee to evolve into. All the options were great in their own right so it was a bit hard to pick but now the time had come.
When the light had died down and the transformation was complete the Eevee was now a Sylveon. A quick look over of himself and Merlin was ecstatic with the change, beaming brightly as he started to strut about with his new body.
This had to be fate. Out of all the evolutions Merlin could have possibly gone into and he decides to evolve into the flashiest and most fashion orientated option of the bunch, it couldn’t fit any better.
”Look at you being all prim and proper! It really fits you.” Oswald couldn’t be happier for the little guy. He’d have to commemorate this moment with a drawing his journal but for now a picture would do. And it seemed like Jenna and her bird were doing fine as well, this was turning out to be a great day.

You guys just reached a heck of a milestone.” Any trainer would be enthused to know that their love and support had such an impact on their companion.[break][break] In the distance, new pokemon had appeared. The sounds of two separate battles had attracted their attention. Rufflet was able to spy them from the dark of the trees, catching sight of both silver and gray furs as the shapes moved in tandem with one another; leaned forward with predatory intentions.[break][break] Sterling had really wanted to nap.[break][break] Laziness could be a hindrance. It was the Rufflet's greatest vice... but Jenna knew that the pokemon held a great deal of strength. If he was denied what he wanted, he would stop at nothing to achieve it. If there was an obstacle that kept him from returning to his trainer's shoulder, there would be hell to pay.[break][break] And he had been interrupted for long enough.[break][break] The mightyena was the first to emerge–darting out from the line of the trees and charging towards the trainers. Its slick body and long limbs carried it at impressive speeds; maw parted to show rows upon rows of teeth.[break][break] Sterling had been faster. After the fight with the Yanmega concluded, he had waited on a distant branch, sensing that there would be one last interruption. With no hesitation, he swept down and sunk his talons into the shoulder-blades of the dark-type, securing a good grip as the tiny bird ripped the larger pokemon straight from the ground.[break][break] Utilizing Sky Drop, her Rufflet carried the mightyena higher and higher until his wings tired... and then he dropped it. The dog yelped in terror as it plunged downward, plunging into the depths of the lake that Oswald and Jenna had been standing next to with a thunderous splash.[break][break] The cannonball had made an impressive splash. | Merlin’s new evolution was a great achievement for the trainer. It was nice to have another Pokémon at his side that was a native to his home region. Though if he had a Slyveon back in his hayday of competitions he would have probably had a much greater popularity in the circuit.
These Pokémon were all the rage back home, though most of the Slyveons that Oswald ended up meeting were not the type of Pokémon you wanted to be around. A lot of them ended up like their trainers, incredibly annoying and haughty. And while Merlin could act like that at times it was easy to smack him out of it.
”Yeah but now I’m worried that his ego might get even bigger!” Oswald laughed. The Slyveon pouted a bit but ultimately understood that his trainer had a point but he was so pretty now, so how could he not love himself even more?! Oswald could tell that was what the Pokémon was thinking and just shook his head.
Their battles had not surprisingly attracted some more attention and more Pokémon appeared to investigate what was going on. While he wanted to test out Merlin’s new strength he figured the Eevee deserved a break for now, and let someone else carry the weight.
While the first Pokémon to appear was a Mightyena the other one to appear was an Absol. Two Pokémon that were not native to this region so Oswald got to recording their encounter before letting his Taillow out of her pokeball to face the Absol.
”Alright, now let’s do this the smart way.” And Oswald’s words fell on deaf ears as the Taillow flew off and attacked the dark type. She tried to use Steel Wing but was countered by the Absol using detect, essentially being humiliated. ”Now do you want to listen to me?” Oswald said with a smug smirk on his face.
The Taillow wanted to attack Oswald now but she knew he was right. ”Aerial Ace!” The Taillow listened to Oswald’s order this time, landing a successful blow on the Absol. ”Now follow up with a Steel Wing!” Kite followed up as Oswald directed, the two Pokémon clashing as the Absol used Slash. Kite managed to overpower the Absol and knock it back.
”Let’s finish up with Brave Bird!” Kite’s favorite move and the Taillow did not hesitate to use it. The poor Absol had no idea what was coming as the Taillow crashed into the dark type, a flashy blue explosion following suit.
”Alright good job!” Their celebration was cut short as the group was then doused with water. While it seemed everyone around him was annoyed, Oswald couldn’t help but laugh. ”Well looks like you two had some fun.”
