About two months ago, disaster had struck those going to an event at the Madatsubomi Tower. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion was instead turned into a complete mess by an organization known as Team Virus. The chaos wrought by their attack on the tower had caused the once magnificent structure to burn to the ground, a charred, fallen husk being left in its wake. And that wasn't even getting into the lives it cost. Many trainers, despite trying to fight their way out of the tower, lost their lives to the ensuing fire. All that was left of them were the memorials placed on the grounds. Thomas quietly took a look around the ruins of the Madatsubomi Tower, silently taking in the aftermath of Team Virus' actions face to face. From the sorry remains of the burned tower, to the people visiting the memorials of perished loved ones, Thomas continued to slowly make his way through the area. "What a shitshow.", Thomas finally muttered to himself somberly as his attention shifted to one of the mourners breaking down and bawling their eyes out.

Lars heard the news about the collapse of what was formerly known as the Sprout Tower; it had been all over the news when he’d arrived in Johto. However, due to having to take care of so many things when he’d first arrived, he’d never gotten the proper chance to check out the site of the disaster until after he’d gotten somewhat settled in the area. He’d heard rumors flying around about this so-called Team Virus, and while most of them were only due to what had been broadcast over the news, he knew that this merited some checking out. Although, he couldn’t help but worry about what he’d heard about over the radio (since he didn’t stay for too long in the apartment except to sleep and take care of personal things) on what had been reported regarding what the team was capable of. Reminds me of some weird sci-fi things I’ve read about… but that’s something else entirely, he thought to himself as he exited out the side door of the apartment complex where he was renting a room and made up his mind to check out the ground zero itself: the ruins of Madatsubomi Sprout Tower. While there were people—mostly shrine maidens and other monks who’d returned trying to solicit donations for rebuilding the tower—the entire place was still in ruins. There were people coming and going; some of them were leaving flowers and candles at certain points and praying to whatever deity they believed in to give the dead some peace. At the same time, though, he felt the fine hairs on the back of his neck prickle a bit—but the entirety of the place wasn’t haunted by ghosts… at least the parts he could see. He could only ponder about the rumors that he’d heard about the local Pokémon League not responding to the incident—and could only hiss as well. Were the League just as incompetent as they were back home? Great… and I thought the League over here had some lick of decency… unlike back there, he thought to himself, grumbling minutely before looking at the part of the tower ruins that hadn’t been cleaned up yet. What a mess, indeed. MADE BY ★MEULK

As Thomas continued to slowly make his way through the grounds, he would spot a monk with a donation bucket. The Kalosian frowned to himself, not having much in the way of money to give to the man. But nevertheless, Thomas found himself compelled to donate what he could to the effort to rebuild the tower, even if he questioned just how much he could actually contribute to it in the long run.
Thomas fished out a bill from his wallet, before walking up to the monk, and placing the bill in the bucket. As the monk thanked him, Thomas couldn't get the somber look off his face. "May this tower be rebuilt swiftly, and those responsible for the attack taken care of.", he would say, before continuing his bout of disaster tourism.
He wondered to himself whether contacting his family about this was a good idea. Would they have already gotten word about this event? If so, would they even care about something that took place all the way in the Johto Region, so far away from Kalos? And even if the Benoit family became involved in Johto affairs, would Team Virus target them, even if just for the resources they had to offer?
Thomas was snapped out of his trance as he accidentally bumped into someone. The blonde male was just as tall as he was, though looked to be a bit older than he was. "My apologies, I should've been more attentive.", the brown-haired boy would say to the stranger.

Just as he was about to turn and head deeper into the ruins to see if there were any traces left behind of what had happened before the tower fell, he felt something—no, someone—bump into him. looking over his shoulder, he saw that he wasn’t alone; a slightly younger man had found his way over to where he stood, surveying the rubble as far as he could see. “No harm done,” he began, still rubbing the back of his neck. The strange, prickly feeling hadn’t gone away no matter how hard he tried to convince himself that the place was alright and that there was clearly nothing out of place; but he still couldn’t shake off that bothersome instinct that was pawing at his gut. Like there was something still present in the air. He couldn’t pick out what it was exactly, though. “…you heard about what happened here?” he asked the younger man, watching as an elderly couple walked past them, heading deeper into another part of the ruined tower, holding flowers and what looked to be either candles or incense sticks. “Sucks that it had to happen here, of all places. There’s one burned-down tower already and now we have another one…” he muttered a few moments later, shaking his head slightly. “Can’t get rid of the feeling that something might happen again around here, if you ask me…” he added a few moments later. What had driven the other to come visit the place? Did the other man have similar agendas like he did? Or was there something different going through their mind at that point in time? He didn’t know. Though he was relieved that accidentally bumping into the guy didn't result in a fight, he couldn't help but notice Lars rubbing his neck. Thomas would notice it was the kind of rubbing one would do if they had a prickly feeling on the back of their necks. Though he wouldn't comment on it just yet, he couldn't help but wonder what was going on. But if there was something going on with the area, he would have to put his money on Ghosts. Considering what had transpired over a month earlier, he wouldn't be shocked to hear that there was a spike in Ghost-type activity in the area.
"Yeah, I heard about it after the fact.", Thomas would tell Lars. The trainer would catch onto the reference to the Burned Tower, a tower that had been struck by a bolt of lightning over a hundred years ago. "This time, we can thank man for this shitshow.", Thomas would mutter back to Lars, looking towards those coming in and out of the ruins in mourning for loved ones lost.
"With assholes like Team Virus running around, something's bound to go to shit soon. And I doubt the League is gonna kick its shit in gear in time to tackle it.", Thomas would remark back to Lars.
"Mind if I ask what you've heard about this incident, if anything? I was in Kanto at the time, so aside from what was covered on video of the scene itself, and what was on the news, I've got nothing else.", Thomas would ask of Lars after a moment's pause.

“Most of what I know, I heard on a radio broadcast,” he began to explain. The rest was ran in the news reels on television repetitively for the few weeks after it had been broadcast across the entire region (and most likely beyond). He wondered idly if the news had reached Hoenn; would his siblings be following him here? Or would they wise up and stay far away while he did his thing? “From what I remember on the news reels, was that there was an event held here before the tower itself collapsed. During the chaos that broke out when the ‘team’ made their presence known, there was something strange—even I couldn’t believe it when I heard the rumors flying around. Like, there was this infected Pokémon that just…collapsed. And then something about a virus going around,” he began, remembering the few details he’d found. “I’m not sure on what happened exactly here, but from what I remember, a Gym Leader died. So I’m a little iffy on how the local League was involved in this. Other than that, that’s it. Nobody else knows where they are. Or if they’re around undercover…” he added a few moments later, before looking around. While he couldn’t tell most people apart (since he didn’t have any of those hokey weird powers) on first glance, his gut instinct was telling him that the other he was talking to couldn’t be a member of the team—because would they wander out in the open so boldly after what had gone down? “You here looking for answers, too?” he asked a few moments later, looking out at the rubble once more.
