Jenna released a long yawn, staring out at Route 48 as the grass swayed. It was much more peaceful in the morning, when the wild pokemon were docile and easy to ignore. Her side still ached; a reminder of what had happened when she had strayed into this place at night. Wild pokemon had caught her by surprise. She wanted to make sure that wouldn't happen again.[break][break]

Prick, her Nidorino, seemed paranoid. He felt it was his responsibility to watch over her after what had happened the last time they were here. It was because of his efforts to push her out of the way of an attack that had caused her injury. “You still worried about that? It happened a week ago.” Her words of assurance did little to stop his protective nature. He nudged against the back of her leg, urging her to keep moving. If they lingered, their chances of encountering a wild pokemon would be raised.[break][break]

“Don't worry. I doubt we'll encounter another aggressive pokemon. That was just a freak incident,” but she moved, letting him shove her along the dirt path. To any onlookers, it would have been a cute sight. Jenna tucked her hands into her pockets, sighing at his constant prodding.[break][break]

Other trainers were moving through the tall grass, eager to try and catch a new companion. “Nothing is gonna happen with all these people. You know that.” Maybe those words made him relax. He stopped shoving.[break][break][break]

Bree was running. Her trainers smacked against dirt, and her bunched hair flew behind her as she tried desperately to catch up to the small blur of pink disappearing ahead of her.

“Hughgo! Hey!” She yelled, the snubbull blatantly ignoring her calls and moving further ahead. A slight glint in the creatures hand drew Bree’s eyes to it momentarily. He had her phone.

It had been a mistake to trust her companion with the task of holding it for a short period of time. While Hughgo was never typically disobedient, it had escaped Bree’s mind in that moment that playful was a major trait of his. Considering how many times it had happened before, Bree should have learned. But with an exasperated breath now pushing past her lips, it only showed the truth of her ways; mistakes, apparently, taught her nothing.

Her body was becoming sluggish as Bree pressed forward while her thief of a friend bounced onto the grassy fields of Route 48. Her attention had been elsewhere, and embarrassment soon flooded her cheeks as she registered the other people and Pokémon around her. Snubbull turned his face with a cheeky snicker to wave the phone her way, but Bree’s expression turned into one of fear as she noticed the nidorino ahead of them that her snubbull was about to bump into.

“Wait – stop!” But it was too late. Within seconds the pink blur thumped into the back of the larger Pokémon, his paws dropping Bree’s phone and his body slumping backwards into the green that swayed with the wind. Bree choked on her words as she stared, perplexed, at the ranger, her eyes frantic,

“Oh god – oh god… I’m so sorry! I’m sorry! Shit. Are they – are you okay? He’s such a little fool I knew something bad would happen – ah god. I'm sorry!”

Jenna had been so preoccupied with her Nidorino, she hadn't noticed the small pink dog that was charging their way. By the time she caught a glimpse of the Snubbull, it had already collided into Prick. The poor fairy-type tumbled to the ground, dropping the phone it had been carrying.[break][break]

Prick, presuming that a foolish wild pokemon had tried to initiate combat, snorted air from his flared nostrils. A challenging smile pulling at his lips as he tried to intimidate the young pokemon that had so foolishly– “Cut that out.” Jenna had him by the ear, giving the poison-type a hard tug to suggest that his behavior needed to be improved. “Poor thing looks petrified!” Prick could be such a bully when he wanted to be.[break][break]

Huffing, he decided to behave. It was a good choice to make because the Snubbull's trainer had not been far behind the mischievous pup. She seemed frantic with worry. Jenna could remember feeling the same as she tried to wrangle with Prick when he was smaller. “We're fine. Don't worry about it. No harm, no foul.” Jenna said with a smile to reassure the brunette. “He can move pretty quick. Those stubby legs don't hold him back.” Pokemon were always up to something. It could be hard for anyone to keep up with them–experienced or not.[break][break]

“Here.” The Ranger bowed down, picking up what she presumed to be the girl's phone. "I don't think you wanted him to have that,” and Jenna brushed off the dirt before handing it to her.[break][break]

Before the conversation could continue, Jenna found her eyes drifting back to Prick. His ears were moving, following a sound he had detected. All that commotion had attracted something. A wild pokemon. “Which direction?” She asked. Prick paused, his ears finally pointing in the direction where the noise had originated. “Well, if it's a wild pokemon... go for it.”[break][break]

He charged into the tall grass. Jenna presumed it wouldn't be an issue, but her eyes drifted back towards the direction he had ran regardless. Why?[break][break]

Because a few moments later, a young Tauros was hurdled into the air, coming back down to earth with a loud crash. Her Nidorino had chucked the normal-type as if it had been a pile of leaves. Jenna, who could only collide a hand to her face and pray for her Nidorino to learn some subtlety, muttered, “Figures he'd do it like that.”[break][break][break]
