 YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE
REFUSING TO BACK DOWN ― The sun was bright; it punched its way deep into the woman's corneas, irritating her eyes. She moved herself under the shade of a tree, and continued walking down the stone path at a relaxed pace. Once again Fran found herself in the national park. Last time she was here, it was quiet and peaceful enough for her to get some reading done, but not so boring that she also didn't have space to train her pokemon. It was a good spot to spend the afternoon.
Fran kept her eyes down, glancing at the flowers by her ankles. She thought briefly on who decided to plant such an array, respecting their design and care for the plants.
Her fingers brushed against one of the pokballs latched to her waist. She had one pokemon that would certainly appreciate the beauty of the park more than she did. The trainer pulled the ball from her hip and clicked a button to open the device. A pool of white light poured onto the path, forming into the silhouette of a small creature. The pokemon shook the residual light from his fur, revealing a magby.
The dark-haired woman placed the pokeball back onto her belt as her beast clapped his claws together. She looked up to see his eyes absolutely gleaming.
While Albuquerque rushed over to the flowers excitedly, Fran approached a nearby bench. She threw her arms over the back edge and reclined with her head tilted back. The shade felt wonderful against her skin and relived some pain from her eyes. She closed them, and breathed slowly.
With the bird pokemon chirping all around her, her own teammate fully engrossing himself in an activity he enjoyed, and barely a soul around her, Fran surely was at peace.

Atticus was unsure of why he was in Kogane City. However, the last several weeks were filled with uncertainty as he isolated himself from his goals. His mind had begun to come undone and he needed a break from the world he was a part of. Fortunately, the time away from training and battling along with the pressure of the race to become the first Champion had given him ample time to understand what it was he truly wanted to do. [break][break]
In Kogane City, Atticus walked towards the direction of the National Park. He was now more relaxed than ever, and wanted to revisit an area he was familiar with. The last few weeks him and his Pokemon rested and cleared their minds in order to come back better than ever. Though he had fallen back quite a bit in terms of personal progress, the reality of his desires had finally become apparent to him. Atticus no longer chased the dream of heading the mantle of his family's business, instead, he wanted to focus his time on rekindling his relationships with his Pokemon and see just how far they could get. [break][break]
As he approached the Park, his body buzzed with excitement. It had been quite some time since he last engaged in a battle with Pokemon. It was almost as if he could feel his Pokemon shake in excitement from the inside of their PokeBalls. [break][break]
Entering the National Park, hazel eyes reflected the bright sunlight as he surveyed the area around him. Immediately, he spotted a Magby playing with some flowers. Believing it to be a wild Pokemon he ran towards it, only to come to a sudden halt that almost sent him forward into the grass. "Ahhh, I thought it was a wild Magby! I got excited, but anyway. It's a very funny sight to behold, a Magby playing with flowers I mean." He expressed nonchalantly to lady on the bench as he approached her slowly. [break][break]
"Have you seen any wild Pokemon about? It's been a few weeks and I'm itching to battle again..." He asked her, peering into her eyes as he waited.

REFUSING TO BACK DOWN ― The woman's dreams of having a quiet and uneventful afternoon were swiftly dashed as a young man threw himself onto the scene. He charged at Albuquerque, who turned his head, fear creeping up his spine. Fran quickly raised herself off the wooden bench, her hands curled into tight fists.
But the teenager stopped abruptly. Fran squinted at the dark-skinned boy, not sure what to make of him. He must have been a trainer. Fran peeked into his hazel eyes as he approached, relaxing slightly now knowing he meant to harm. Al wiped the sweat of his brow and returned to tending to the flowers.
Fran stood up straight, moving her fists into the comfort of her jean's pockets. She was about to tell the boy no, in truth and in hopes that he would lose interest in the area. However, the circumstance of timing continue to fuck with the woman. Two wild creatures popped out of the flowers behind Fran, leaping onto the bench where she once sat. The fighter turned on her heels to face the opponents.
They were pikachus; a pokemon Fran was most familiar with. Unfortunately, these beasts were not as cordial as McQueen's. Or perhaps it wasn't so unfortunate. If they were looking for a fight, Fran knew how to give them one. "You mean other than these two? No," she responded with a lightly sassy tone.
If he was so interested in battling, then he could have one. Fran focused on only one of the mice as a sort of professional courtesy. So she drew her hands out of her pockets, and plucked a ball from her belt. Gently tossing the device in the air, it opened, released a white light that filled into the form of a low-to-the-ground insectoid. The trapinch shook himself of the pokeball's energy as Fran caught the sphere from the air.
One of the wild creatures took point, leaping to the ground to face the enemy. Its body began to glow with a golden light, sparks flying off its figure. Al put his flowers down, drawn to the battle his teammate was fighting. He watched as the pikachu's electricity condensed at the tip of its tail. The beast bounced into the air, twirling to fling the ELECTRO BALL at the trapinch.
San Antonio did not move. The attack made full contact with his body, but the damage was nonexistent. His ground-typing made sure of that. The pikachu landed back on the ground, startled that it had made no impact with such an impressive display.
"Bulldoze," Fran ordered her trapinch. San Antonio stomped his stubby forelegs onto the pavement, creating a shock wave that came crashing toward his opponent. The pikachu became overpowered, stumbled back, and fell to the ground. It had knocked its head against the bench, and fallen unconscious.
Having completed his task, San Antonio wandered away from the battle. He encroached on his teammate, infiltrating the flower bed. The gluttonous beast then began to eat the flowers. Albuquerque was devastated. He wrapped his claws around the trapinch and tried to pull him off. The struggle continued without much attention from their trainer. Fran was much more interested in the other trainer's battle. She folded her hand on her hip and watched the stranger prove his worth. |

Or, maybe, she just wasn't looking for a social outing while out with her Pokemon. It was clear the moment he walked up to her that she hardly wanted him there. However, unfortunately for her, two Pikachus appeared out of the blue ready for a fight. " That one looks cute!" He said, pointing at the Pikachu that to him looked slightly more charming than the other, while to everyone else, there was virtually no difference in appearance. [break][break] As the lady chose to go first, Atticus got an eyeful of her assets before his eyes found themselves on the Trapinch that had been selected to battle. " I guess that's my cue!" He said a bit louder than he expected. Atticus got a bit closer to the action before reaching for his Grovyle. Tossing the PokeBall forward released his trusty companion, and local flirt, Rey the Grovyle. She was sure a handful in the sense that every time his eyes wandered off of her she was elsewhere doing her thing. However, she more than made up for it with her battling skills. It was a sight to see for sure. [break][break] " Rey go a bit easy on him alright? I'm looking to capture that little mouse." He said while sucking his teeth and plotting the next course of action. " Rey, bait him and use Leaf Blade!" Atticus had a lot of faith in his Grovyle, as she was capable of improvising on the move and going with the flow when an attack fell apart. However, she also possessed scary quickness, and the ability to time things so well. As Grovyle approached the Pikachu, she made it seem like she was going to ram into the Pikachu at full force. As Rey feinted an attack into the Pikachu, the mouse Pokemon dodged out of the way of an attack that had no commitment to it. So what followed the Pikachu was a Leaf Blade right to the jaw. [break][break] The attack pushed the mouse Pokemon back, but it got back up and charged forward. Before fully committing, the electric type released a Thunder Shock that caught Rey off guard. Not being able to fully move out of the way, the grass type was shocked partially. However, this only further irritated her, and she charged forward of her own instinct. " Rey, no stop! Use Energy Ball since you're so close! He shouted out at her. Listening, she formed an energy ball that shot into the Pikachus chest and lifted it into the air before falling back to the ground. [break][break] Atticus raced over with an empty PokeBall in his grasp. " Nice job Rey. You surprise me every time..." He launched the empty PokeBall at the weakened Pikachu and waited for the results. " Do all of your Pokemon have a love for flowers?" He joked with the nearby stranger after noticing her second Pokemon go towards the flowers.

REFUSING TO BACK DOWN ― It wasn't long before the stranger beside her joined the fray. He decided to use a grass-type pokemon; a battle in which no individual would have the type advantage. Nonetheless, the sheer strength and wit about those partners allowed them to secure a win. The young man tossed a pokeball at the now-fainted pikachu. Fran watched it topple back and forth for a moment before turning to answer his prompt.
The midnight-haird woman shrugged, her eyes trailed to her two morons. Al was still trying to steer the trapinch away from eating the flower bed, but the gluttonous insectoid was heavy. "Only the more troublesome ones," she offered.
She had no obligation to continue talking to this young man, but frankly, Fran didn't want to move from the spot that she and her pokemon had already picked for themselves. So the woman re-approached the bend, and plopped herself down. She spread her arms across the back of the wooden piece in a relaxed manner, crossing her legs in front of her. This was too shady a spot to give up so easily. Still, if the stranger could share silence with her, then he wouldn't be such a bother.
Beyond her, the flowers broke in an unnatural sway. San Antonio ceased devouring his buffet of plants, and lifted his head. He was face-to-face with a squirrely beast, about his size.
The pachirisu tried to push him off the flowerbed. The trapinch refused to move, resulting in the pachirisu's growing anger. The wild creature swerved close to San Antonio's neck. Sparks licked off the pokemon's cheeks as it NUZZLED its head into its opponent. San Antonio was unaffected, but now the beast stood in between him and his meal. That was not acceptable. The trapinch stopped his forelegs onto the ground, shaking the flowerbed into a frenzy. Petals trembled and released into the air as the shockwave of his BULLDOZE attack made quick work of the pachirisu. Without much attention from his trainer, San Antonio continued eating the heads off the arrangement before him. Albuquerque had fallen on his rump, swept off his feet by his teammate's onslaught.
Fran merely turned her head at the commotion. Only seeing Al on the ground and San Antonio snacking, she wrote it off. She twisted back to face the young man, curious if he would try to stay or simply wander away. |
