[attr="class","anotherwayimg"] [attr="class","anotherwayright"] [attr="class","anotherwayrighticon"][attr="class","ion-android-globe"] [attr="class","anotherwayline"] [attr="class","anotherwaypost"] [attr="class","anotherwaypost2"] two-toed. japanese kitchen appliance homunculus. domed with a horn set for murder. haunting yellows for half-moon eyes with focused pupils bent on tracking prey. a startling pokémon. one that could turn heads and open wallets.[break][break] nevertheless, closer inspection revealed disappointment. cooper's eyes sought behaviour, quirks and although the species featured no difference of gender in the presentation, the breeder's blood detected an unfortunate conclusion: the pawniward was male.[break][break] and aggressive. the timer sped down in his mind like a fall of numbers, forcing cooper to call out his vibrava. instead of jaws, his wings fluttered back and forth like thirsting teeth.[break][break] "earthquake." cooper said.[break][break] the vibrava dived from the air, little legs brushing against the ground to activate a building tremor. as if summoning a god from the depths of the earth, the safari's environment groaned as the pawniard struggled to find footing. the samurai dug his knives into the convulsing ground—big mistake. at a pivotal moment, the land tore up and snapped against his body, tarnishing its steels with grime.[break][break] vibrava did not falter and as cooper made a call, the dragonfly darted like an arrow. tail shooting straight back. the pawniward leered at his incoming opponent, raised its blades in defense. as the vibrava's saucer-like eyes flashed its brilliant greens, the pawniard sliced diagonally with a metal claw—but cut air. vibrava had continued overhead, zipping by like a passing plane.[break][break] however, a smart angling of the tail and wings allowed the vibrava to perform a sharp u-turn into the pawniard's back. cooper whistled—but his pokemon already understood. a harsh superpower ravaged the steel creature's form, ringing metal thuds and clanks like a kitchen toppling out of a skyscraper building.[break][break] the vibrava flew back to cooper and perched on his shoulder. extending a blade, the pawniard's gaze centered dramatically on the two, crying out to call upon his kin before slumping on the field in an unconscious heap.[break][break] there wasn't enough time for celebration. cooper darted past the fainted pokemon, his head tilted slightly to nuzzle his partner's head.[break][break] wc: 340[break]

[attr="class","anotherwayimg"] [attr="class","anotherwayright"] [attr="class","anotherwayrighticon"][attr="class","ion-android-globe"] [attr="class","anotherwayline"] [attr="class","anotherwaypost"] [attr="class","anotherwaypost2"] cooper armstrong was used to routine. used to schedule. but he set the time. he set the pace. cooper was his own boss and to be subjected to the sands of a foreign clock was suffocating. the pressure drowned him. sunk him to the hourglass' depths as the weight of his ranch's future grinded on top. he needed to catch at least one valuable.[break][break] in his frenzied haste, cooper did not see the offset stone. his boot caught the second beveled layer of a dwebble's shell. suddenly, the world shifted angles. tilted forwards. his arms took the brunt of his fall, grass staining the white fabrics of his sheet with humiliating scars.[break][break] his laboured body protested his recovery. a grumble fell out of his lips like boulders as he supported himself on one knee before raising himself entirely upright. the dwebble snapped its claws at cooper. beady eyes enlarged then popped small, blinked and wavered back and forth on their orange stalks to communicate its miniscule rage.[break][break] "cute lil bugger." a loud red flash declared the arrival of cooper's wartortle, her fluffy tail an intimidating setpiece that rolled likes waves. "he looks a lil thirsty, dontcha think, bonney?"[break][break] the dwebble remained defiant. clacking its claws like kindergarten castanets. cooper whistled—a memorized tune for the wartortle to remember and affiliate with.[break][break] "hydro pump." he paid attention. just a shallow layer of it. instead, the cowboy's trained eyes scavenged the incoming landscape for creatures as if scrying through a loupe.[break][break] wartortle expanded her quivering maw; water swirled within the throat like the great kanagawan wave. she seemed hesitant. the dwebble's attitude was strangely adorable, but the raised claw damned it. the floodgates opened. the hydro pump barreled out of the turtle's mouth and swamped the crab, burying it into the quagmare of the field.[break][break] wc: 308[break]

[break][break] he knew he couldn't be too selective. too picky. time slipped off his fingers like spilled milk, and the emptiness of the three safari balls strapped to his waist became hauntingly heavy. with a frustrated grunt, cooper snatched one off his belt. his fingers gripped it tight, knuckles white, before he promised himself he'd capture the next pokémon he saw.[break][break] and the next pokémon he saw was a vegetable he didn't mind having. cooper went immediately for his powerhouse. his ampharos manifested from her ball, her long tail stretching and her flippers raised for combat. the bulbasaur peeled leaves from his bud and delivered them towards daisy at a terrifying speed. carried by the winds, the razor leaves battered the ampharos, but her hide was tougher than the bulbasaur had anticipated.[break][break] "thunder wave!" cooper said. "follow up with a thunder!"[break][break] he wasted no time delivering commands. electricity coursed from the red gems embroidering his pokemon, first shackling the bulbasaur in a painful paralysis. the toad attempted to lift a limb, but it barely raised its toe. mewing pitifully, the bulbasaur seemed to challenge its restricted state with every fibre of its being. cooper's ampharos raised her flippers. hailed god. as a chant shot from her lips, a violent bolt of thunder severed the sky and struck the bulbasaur squarely in the bulb. a frazzled groan rose from the creature's thick neck as it twitched on the ground, eyes shut tight as if bearing the electricity still.[break][break] cooper lobbed his safari ball. a direct hit. as the red light sucked the bulbasaur within the ball's confines, cooper already made his advance.[break][break] wc: 309[break]

[break][break] "yer up bonney." cooper grunted.[break][break] his wartortle rushed out of his ball and spun upon the flattened grass. her limbs popped out their domed home before her head and her ankles dug in to the turf. the sun-touched soil broke underneath the weight, cooling her feet with the unearthed layer exposed. the trapinch did not stall. the ant lion wielded its head, swinging it like a mace as the earth rumbled underneath the wartortle. an earth power shattered the ground underneath and tore it apart like crumbling bread. but a whistle asked for wartortle to leap. she did, in absolute obedience. a shimmering barrier expanded from the turtle before she landed. the rumbling earth caused budding ripples across the protect before the wartortle escaped the final quakes. [break][break] bonney rushed forward. as the trapinch readied its next attack, the wartortle dipped into her dome and utilized the forward momentum of her dash to carry her shelled form through. a rock slide threatened to slow her approach, tossing stones toward the wartortle like miniature asteroids. but the wartortle was too fast. leaping out of her shell, the turtle blasted her obstacle with a fierce hydro pump, delaying her descent from the sheer force of the water.[break][break] the stream finally subsided. as the water seeped into the grass, it unsheated the still form of an unconscious trapinch. perhaps, someone else would catch it because cooper was already on his way.[break][break] wc: 315[break]

[break][break] despite the rust-like sediment that filled the habitat, some creatures thrived. cooper pulled his handkerchief out and tied it around his neck. he tugged the fabric over his nose as the grit beat against his face. although he adapted, he knew of a friend who required little change. cooper lobbed his ball and as the device cracked open, the springing light of red formed into his vibrava.[break][break] the dragonfly fluttered about. his wings beat at impressive speeds, blurring like fans. each movement was mechanical as he shifted in dashes across the landscape. his eyes scoured for potential captures until a glint of iron caught the gaze like a fallen jewel.[break][break] reeling back, the vibrava's legs curled against his body. the pawniard had swung its arms forth, dark energy outlining the sharp blades as a night slash missed the ascending pokemon. vibrava had the high ground—and control over the actual earth. with a severe rumbling, the wastelands groaned and hissed as an earthquake tore the pawniard up.[break][break] as the quakes settled, cooper hurled his second safari ball. he'd catch this one. no matter the gender.[break][break] wc: 348[break]
