[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] He supposed that he could at least get to visit the gym before he went back to the mainland. Gym battles weren't on his list of interests until recently, after which it has evolved from something he'd only do for a dare to a thing he'd want to try at least once. The challenge wasn't even a product of his ambition though, but more of his curiosity of how it feels to be in a challenger in one of these fights. Unlike most that come to the gyms feeling either nervous or confident, Kyle wore a rather neutral expression. He wasn't expecting anything out of it anyways, and had just been here for the experience. His eyes could not hide the inner child in him though, peering inside the gym's interior through it's gates with wonder. "Hello. Hello?"His Pokemon were all set up in a nice row on his belt for the challenge, and while the ones he brought were not carefully chosen based on the gym's Pokemon, he supposed that they were the only ones that Kyle was completely confident in using. "I'm here to challenge." The message was short and simple, but it checks out. MADE BY NOVA

how odd; she's a gym leader who hasn't ever challenged a gym. not even one. she finds the thought amusing as she approaches the challenger that's just arrived.
"hello, hello."
she repeats his greeting. he's her first official challenger, and while she's not someone who gets nervous, she can't help but feel a bit anxious. or is it excitement? she couldn't tell. all she knows is that she's excited to teach this boy a lesson.
her smile is fake. "welcome to the gym. how many badges do you have?" as much as she wants to skip formalities, she knows it's her duty not to. "two-on-two. no substitutions. no items." she takes a step away from him, feigning a pout.
"but i'm sure you already know. you did read my board description, didn't you?"
but, just in case:On the outskirts of the city, further north of the docks is a little pathway that leads through the mountain. The path is dark but peaceful, and on the other side is an open beach space connecting to the ocean. beautiful and tranquil; though it won't last for long. The beach is a battlefield and at two ends are circles indicating where each trainer should stand. It stretches across, rivaling a football field. The open space lacks any sort of decoration apart from the occasional rock or palm tree. once she's at the other end of the large beach battlefield, she takes her place inside the painted circle. she waits for him to call out his two choices before choosing hers. how unfair; but she's gym leader, so she does what she wants.
"good luck!"

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] "Zero."
"I got that."
"Yeah. I did."The responses to her inquiries were quick and concise, wasting no moment to get the challenge going as soon as possible. While no hint of distress could be observed from Kyle, he couldn't help but finally show a bit of excitement out once the Gym Leader finally acknowledged his challenge. Surely, she won't expect much from him after mentioning that he had no badges before hand. He did not want to disappoint after all. "Good luck, have fun to you too."Noticing the Gym Leader not release her two chosen Pokemon for the fight after she had mentioned the rules, he supposed that he was expected to reveal his hand first. He knew it was a bit unfair, especially since he knew that his Pokemon were not suited to go against most of the gym's roster. Then again, he was here for the experience rather than the desperation to acquire a badge from her. Kyle fielded out his Manectric and his Rhyperior, with the former letting out his most energetic war cry as soon as he materialized out of his Pokeball. The latter simply stood tall, awaiting for an opponent from the opposite side of the beach. "Go easy on me, yeah?" The words were spoken with jest rather than seriously, though he wouldn't mind it if she actually did. Kyle sends out Manectric and Rhyperior MADE BY NOVA

ava knows not to underestimate her opponents. this one's no different; just because he has no badges doesn't mean he's weak. she has none, too. and when he calls out his two choices, she knows her assumptions had been correct.
"i'll try, hotshot."
unlike her regular battles, she isn't in this to win. she's in this for the experience, and if she loses, then hey, this isn't her team. blame can be shifted onto them. it's selfish, but she's a selfish person by nature.
retrieving two pokeballs, she calls out her gym pokemon: torterra and politoed. clouds darken in color, shifting into something threatening as they swiftly clump together. thunder cracks, and from it, rain pours, drenching the entire battlefield. wet sand is their terrain now.
politoed's DRIZZLE comes into play. she doesn't let him have the first move. "hop on." with a single leap, politoed jumps up onto torterra's forest of a shell and resides in it, swinging by the branches to keep the battle alive. through the rain, polited tries to put the manectric under a HYPNOSIS, realizing that it's a potential threat.
torterra is a defensive tank, slowly walking forward as she houses a politoed on her back. she sets up her defenses with a LEECH SEED that sprouts to her sides.
they await their opponent's retaliation.

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] Rain, huh. The Torterra, he could see how she picked him out to go against her Pokemon, but the Politoed was a choice that surprised Kyle. He sent out his Manectric, thinking that the sands would at least soften up the Earthquakes that would be inevitable from her gym's team, but it seemed like that was out of the question now. It was better than another Ground-type at least. She started out with a safe opening, which Kyle respected. She held the advantage with her Torterra, and the choice of playing it without being aggressive right from the get-go was not the first what he predicted her first move to be. He supposed he could still work around this. "Rhy, we're blocking the line of sight. Stone Edge."Manectric was already in a daze by the time the Rhyperior stomped on the ground, erecting large blades of stone from the ground. Rather than aiming at the Torterra, the Stone Edge went just a distance in front of the Manectric, cutting off the Electric-type's view from the Politoed's Hypnosis. Opting for the Manectric's protection had made the Rhyperior susceptible for the Leech Seed however. "Trike, Magnet Rise."It probably was not needed right now, but it wouldn't be long before Ground-type attacks start to get common. Still behind the cover of the Stone Edge as he recovered from his drowsiness, the canine focused the charges generated on his fur to his feet, enabling easy levitation from the wet sandy ground. He supposed that the rain did make it also easier for the Manectric to release electricity of the opposite charge in the environment, making magnetism a much easier feat to handle right now. their line of sight is blocked by a sudden STONE EDGE. he chooses to be defensive rather than take the bait so clearly laid out by her. she had deviated from her usual fighting-style and opted for a more passive approach. but if he's not going to play her game, then she won't bother.
"attack."
on her command, politoed snaps open his mouth and produces a powerful stream of water, sending it straight at the manectric. his HYDRO PUMP travels strongly, aided by the downpour.
torterra slams her leg into the ground, sending shock waves rippling across. suddenly, a large WOOD HAMMER bursts from the ground, targeting right below the rhyperior.

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] Going for the offensive immediately after the safe opening was a shift that somehow caught Kyle off-guard. He wanted to think that quick thinking was one of his stronger aspects, but situations like these make him doubt that claim sometimes. "You'd have to dodge that, Trike. Quick Attack if you must." Defensive by nature, Kyle had subconsciously opted to stall instead of a much better play. Levitating from the ground, the Manectric could easily maneuver atop the wet sands without getting slowed down. Legs moving as though he was running on an invisible platform, the increased speed from the Quick Attack got the Manectric out of the Hydro Pump's trajectory, zooming in towards the duo. "Metal Burst."The command came in late, though firm, with the trainer unsure of what else the Rhyperior could have done in that situation. It seemed the most logical for someone without the speed to take the attack and counter with his own. Taking the Wood Hammer and attempting to block it with his forearms, his ability saved him from a clean one-hit knock-out, albeit severely weakened and almost unable to stand. The Ground-type glowed in a metallic shine as the attack hit, ready to burst out with energy and release the damage he took back. A flash of white was released as the Metal Burst activated, the move aiming to reflect the damage dealt back to the Torterra and, by extension, to the Politoed on top of him. The moment the Leech Seed tried to sap the remaining of his health, the Rhyperior fell. Sighing, Kyle quickly recalled him back to his ball, scratching the back of his head for his choices. "Oops. Rock-types are the wrong choice I guess."Manectric dodges with Hydro Pump with Quick Attack. Rhyperior is hit with Wood Hammer. Rhyperior used Metal Burst!
