Time was starting to run out. Jenna couldn't help but touch a hand to her last remaining safari ball, pondering if she'd be able to find what she wanted. “I think this is gonna be a close call, Garnet.” If it was, then the Ranger would have to hustle. The Ranger was at least thankful that it had given her a chance to work with her Trapinch; these last few battles would be important for her development. The nervous ground-type needed some form of validity. It may not ease her of all her quirks, but maybe this experience would help round them out.[break][break]
The Trapinch looked up at the Ranger and anxiously clicked her jaws together. The bubblebeam had hurt, but she still seemed able to continue onward. Jenna figured she'd push to see her limits. Maybe the nervous pokemon was tougher than she seemed? Her shell was certainly rock-solid.[break][break]
She scooped Garnet up from the ground, craddling her in her arms as she proceeded forward. The road stretched ahead of them, ready to lead them through the surrounding trees as the foliage closed in. Long gone were the long stretches of tall grass. Away from the constant heat of the sun, she hoped that more pokemon could be found.[break][break]
And then a pineco dropped from one of the nearby trees, glowing with a violent energy. “Oh, that's bad–!” Jenna immediately tried to throw herself to the wayside. Her body hit the ground and the rough impact sent Garnet bouncing from her grip. “Dig!” She had to yell out, ready to lunge and try to throw herself over Garnet if it failed.[break][break]
The Pineco self-destructed. There was a loud flash of light, followed by a noise that made Jenna's ears ring painfully. A moment of worry had consumed her, because as the light and the dust cleared, there was no sight of Garnet...[break][break]
Until she popped up from the ground, looking just as frightened as the Ranger. “Ohhhh, man.” The girl clutched her chest. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”

The explosion yielded an unexpected result.[break][break]
As Jenna scooped her Trapinch into her hands, she took a moment to inspect the crater the Pineco had left behind; the bug-type rested at the center of the disaster, unconscious from its show of force. The Ranger could only sigh, wondering how many people were harmed by these living landmines...and that was when she heard a crack as one of the trees began to topple forward. The explosion had torn a massive chunk from the trunk of the old tree, making it unable to stand as if fell forward.[break][break]
The Ranger backed away, not wanting to be caught by any limbs as the tree slammed against the ground with enough force to make the ground quake. The sound was deafening. The explosion from earlier had been loud enough. The impact was so loud, it confirmed to Jenna that, yes, if a tree did fall in a forest when no-one was around there would absolutely be a sound.[break][break]
“You alright, Garnet?” The Trapinch was shuddering violently from all of the commotions. It was too much stimulation. “Alright, you've had enough fun for one day,” and she returned the ground-type back to the safety of her pokeball; she had earned a break.[break][break]
The Ranger prepared to continue her journey...but something green caught her eye. She glanced back to the tree, noting that the green had been different from the hue of the leaves. Had a pokemon been caught in the collapse? Jenna walked to where she had seen the flash of color and started to pull some of the collapsed branches away, trying to get a better view...[break][break]
A Snivy? The poor pokemon was unconscious. Several branches kept it pinned to the hard earth and unable to move. At first, Jenna feared the worst, but eventually determined that the grass snake had probably bonked its head on the fall. The branches were heavy, but nothing that could cause life-threatening injuries. “You should still get to a Pokemon Center, though...” And the Ranger allowed her hand to retrieve the last Safari Ball.[break][break]
With a gentle tap, she tried to capture the injured Sinvy.
