How hard could it be to nab a flying type Pokemon while it was resting on the ground? This was a question that Kenny Easly had asked himself earlier in the day when he had gotten tired of using his regular old fighting type Pokemon. His answer? The beating of dozens of irritated wings as a horde of angry pidgey chased the bright-haired lad across the plains of Route 44. What was supposed to be a simple experiment had turned into quite the chase as the male got the best work out of his life!
In short, his plan had been a success! He had nabbed a flying type Pokemon with relative ease! A pidgey no bigger than his fist! It seemed like a pretty good Pokemon, though with his lack of knowledge on Flying-types he had assumed that it was going to be good regardless of what it really was. For a moment he had the Pokemon in his hands by its legs, he was going to have a new addition! Sadly, this triumph was short-lived.
As it turned out the pidgey he had caught by hand was not only the object of his intentions but also the desired meal of a rather large fearow. For what seemed like hours he and the Fearow fought over who would get the tiny bird Pokemon. Squawks, bellows, and glares were exchanged until both had realized that the pidgey had hopped out of Ken’s hands and bounced its way back into the forest. Temporarily putting their shouting match on hold, he and the Fearow had paced into the forest to find the small bird and once it was found in the safety of its nest the larger bird swooped down and took a hold of it before bringing it back down to Kenny.
It seemed like the perfect alliance, but soon betrayal would ensue! The Fearow, right in the blonde’s face, ate the pidgey down with a gulp and dared the human to do something about it with an arrogant glare. Just when Kenny was about give the mowhawked Pokemon a piece of his mind a rumbling in the treetops caught their attention and as it turned out the now devoured Pidgey wasn’t just sleeping in its nest but it seemed to be apart of an entire flock! It was a tense moment, neither the human or the Pokemon could make any sudden movements as a horde of small brown birds looked down at them with piercing brown eyes. It was the time for calm, tranquility and most importantly a good plan. None of that happened. Instead, the vigilante made a run for it darting out of the forest and back to the hills and that was how he ended up running like a madman.
To make matters worse for him he was beginning to get tired, but when he spotted someone in the distance he had found himself speeding back up. He couldn’t let them get hurt! With everything he had, he called out to the person as he continued to sprint, “HEY YOU! STOP WHAT YA DOING AND RUN!” he bellowed to them, if they remained in pace he’d arrive in arms reach in seconds and snatched them by the hand and ran like hell. |

running with the punches, It was hard not to doze off on such a beautiful summer day. The overcast clouds fought off the overbearing heat of the midday sun and a refreshing breeze split through the rolling hills of Route 44. Especially atop one of said hills, it was gorgeous. With a notebook on her lap and a pen held between two lazy fingers, Leah yawned softly and then added a couple lines to her sketch. A messy drawing of her Eevee that was sleeping beside her. She had a hobby of drawing, even if she wasn't particularly good at it. Most of the time she justified it as her wanting to make diagrams to help study the biology of Pokemon later on, but more often than not, they were regulated to a sloppy book of careless drawings whenever the muse had struck. In her day-dreamy state, she lifted her head lazily when the distant sound of cawing perked her ears. At her side, Norn's ears flicked as well, though he didn't seem as keen on looking up. Perhaps he trusted his trainer to let him know if something dangerous was coming. It took her a moment to make sense of what she was seeing. Overhead, like a vicious cloud was a flock of birds. Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and even the occasional Pigeot swarmed like a ranveous nest of bees. Once in a while, one would swoop towards the ground, pecking at whatever was shuffling through the grass. Soon, that something took the form of a man. Wide eyed, panting, and flailing his arms in panic, he shouted something. Confused, Leah started to get to her feet. Surely, he would just turn the other way and not bring an entire flock of angery birds to her. Right? All he had to do was go left. Or, hell, going right would work too! Just turn. Turn. Please, turn. "N-Norn, we gotta go," she mumbled down to her companion. She gave him a glance before she pivoted on her heel and started sprinting down the hill. She leaned down to scoop up her Eevee in her arms, hugging him tight as she barreled down the hill. The cawing and chirping of the birds soon overcame her and in moments, she heard the thudding of the man's feet. Fueled by panic and frustration, she shouted over her shoulders. "W-What the hell are you doing!" She half cried, half groaned. "Don't d-drag me into your mess!" That line was definitely more of a whine.

The flock was on their heels, he could hear the screeches of the bird Pokemon behind them and the whine that the girl had let out didn’t help the situation much more than his frightened pacing. Kenny had already pulled this nameless woman into his problem and if he wasn’t careful she could be seriously hurt. As someone who wanted to be a hero, rather it was for fun or not, he wouldn’t be able to live with that on his conscious.
His grip on her wrist tightened as he looked over his shoulder at her: He could feel it, her dainty wrist clasped in his rough palm, her pulse was going crazy anxiety present. This woman, she was far too innocent to be in this mess and with that in his thoughts Kenny made his mind to protect her no matter what even if he had to fight every Pokemon that was chasing after them. If heroics were the game, now was as good a time as any to put them on display.
Planting his right foot in front of himself Kenny stopped their fleeing and let the girl go. The birds were after him, meaning that if he distracted them long enough the blonde and her Eevee could get to safety. It was risky, but it was all he had on him right now. There was just one shot and with it, he’d fix this mistake. “Hold on to your Pokemon tight and run as fast as you can.” his words were earnest in their delivery, his bright eyes glaring in the direction of the approaching swarm. All he hoped, no matter how many times he’s pecked, no matter how many attacks he endures, he hoped that she would get away.
Standing at his full height he clenched his fist at his sides and gritted his teeth, ‘I might be able to get her ten minutes if I’m lucky,’ he looked down at his fist, ‘I’m sorry I can’t give you more.’
With a sharp exhale he’d bellow back to her, “Go!” he darted towards the bee-like mass of birds, “Ten minutes, just ten minutes and she’s clear! I got this!”
At the front of the pack was a robust Pigeot, it’s feathers worn, beak scarred from what must have been years of battle. With any luck, it was the leader. Despite how nervous he was about facing the jetting Pokemon down, Kenny forced the sides of his mouth to curl into a wide toothy grin, “Hey bird brain! I’ve got a treat for ya!”
hopefully he could deliver without too much of a beating. |

running with the punches, Leah stumbled over her feet the moment the stranger had let go. Her momentum carried her a few fumbling feet forward before she had the grace to pivot on her heels. She watched in awed horror as the man suddenly faced the Pokemon. Beafy, burly arms spread out wide as he gestured for them to take their frustration out on him. Surely, whatever caused all of this was his fault after all. Why he waited until now to do anything left Leah even more dazed and confused. The girl jumped a bit, shoulders tensing in response to him suddenly barking commands at her. Ten minutes? Against a freaking flock of Pidgeotto?! Was this man as dense as he looked? Still, she took a half step back, arms cradling her Eevee. But she didn't turn around. Another half step, but still she watched. It was hard to judge just what was going through her mind at the moment. She looked scared out of her mind, mortified by the sight in front of her. Anger, stress, helplessness, all of those were present in the cocktail of emotions that played out over her face. It was only when the bulkiest of the birds started to move did something coherent form on her face. Determination.Without thinking, she lunged forward. It only took a full step before she was nearly at his side. An arm flung outward to let her Eevee run across it. The small creature neatly balanced on her forearm and palm as she held the fox out. There wasn't time for a command -- not that Leah's brain was even working at this point to begin with -- but that certainly didn't stop her companion from getting the memo. The fox locked eyes with the Pidgeot, big, brown ovals holding its attention and curving its strike towards its new target. And as it the bird honed in on them, the Eevee shrunk back. A pitiful whine escaped him as his ears flattened and he retreated back to Leah's arms. Cowering, shy and most certainly not worth the effort, the Eevee did an excellent job of charming his way out of situations. Though, not enough to completely deter a Pokemon so thoroughly upset. The Pidgeot halted its assault upon seeing such submission, but fury burned in its small, beady eyes. Large wings flapped just a few meters from Leah and the stranger as it hovered, silently deciding what to do. Its eyes twitched between the girl and the man and its features seemed to relax. Was it going to st--? A shrill screech echoed from the Pidgeot, its feathers raising defensively just seconds before it shot forward. Like a rocket, it ducked low to the ground, wings tucked in tight as it aimed right between Leah and the strange. No doubt, it was looking to strike them both at the same time.

If Kenny’s plan had gone smoothly the girl would be quite some distance away and he’d be facing off against the flock on his own. This was a scary, tense situation but he wanted to right his wrong like a good hero should. With every step he took he had felt his heart begin to beat against his chest with fearful, loud palpitations. This was it, the air was not just deafened by the dozens of wings beating the air but thud of his heart filled his ears too now. Maybe he was going to have a real Adrenalin rush! That, or he was going to find himself at the mercy of the horde. Either way he was ready.
With a clenched fist he charged on, ready for battle! A heroes job was never done and he was about to cement himself in that girl’s mind as an idiot! Or so he thought, the sound of footsteps behind him didn’t grow more silent, but louder. He looked back and saw her again. “What are you doing here? Didn’t I tell you to-” her Eevee had taken the scene and charged at the bulky Pidgeot. Kenny couldn’t say a word to stop it, he could only watch the two Pokemon square up against one another, the larger one seeming to have an intimidating presence.
The little Eevee, like the wise pup it was seemed to catch the gravity of their situation and eventually went cowering back to its trainer without a word. So that was that, but now there was still the matter of the birds chasing after them. They all seemed to stop with the Pidgeot at the front seeming to think of a strategy to handle the two. For a brief moment, it seemed it was going to stop and go back on its way, such a sign of relaxation didn’t put Kenny at ease, however.
There was no preparation for what came next, the Pidgeot darted forward with the same fury it had before in its eyes. It’s course: to hit both trainers at once.
There was no time to tell her to run again, without thinking only driving on instinct Kenny wrapped his arms around the girl and her Pokemon and held them in a firm embrace. The attack was coming, there was no predicting it, it all happened in a matter of an instant as the bird Pokemon struck with a powerful quick attack. IT. HURT. LIKE. HELL.
With a low pained groan, he tightened his eyes and scooped the girl up, “When I told you to run I didn’t mean back to the birds.” his voice was sober, not excited, not energetic, but calm with tinges of pain in it. The right-back side of his ribs was aching badly now, likely bleeding from the attack but he was still up and he could still make a break for it. Regardless of if the Pokemon was in his heel, he’d carry both woman and Eevee in his arms towards whatever town was at the end of the route.
Rather she wanted to go or not she had no choice, if she came along he’d carry her with some gentleness, one arm under her legs the other cradling her torso, a difficult but safe position to run in. Had she resisted he’d toss her over his shoulder and dashed like a madman with his right arm coiled around her waist and his left with a firm grip on her Eevee.
“Sorry if I’m rough!” |

running with the punches, Ah... Well, that could have gone better. Surely the Pidgeot was less aggressive than before -- Norn's Charm had to have had some effect on the Pokemon. Maybe that was the entire reason the stranger was able to keep standing after a full on attack like that. Even still, Leah could only stare with wide eyes up at him as all he did was groan and shift his weight ever so slightly. "Y-You can't do this all on your own," Leah asserted with a furrowed brow. The color had drained from her skin, but that didn't stop her worried glare. "What did you do to cause all of this?" Her quiet voice was soon drowned out by the roar of the birds behind them. In a flash, Leah was in his arms, cradled like a newly wed as he sprinted down the hilly plains. She couldn't help but dare a glance over his shoulder, watching the brown birds rapidly close in. Hear ramming against her chest, she looked between him and the birds. The Pidgeot, eyes red with anger, tucked its wings in close and lunged forward. With scary precision, it aimed right for his head. "Duck!" Leah called as her hands came up around his neck. Without thinking, she tugged downwards, urging him to follow her command. 5 ;; avg lvl 221 ;; words Ken ; Sorry for the short post!

He wouldn’t let her go, he had to keep moving no matter what happened to him. That last attack should have put him down, but for some odd reason he kept treading along. The back of his shirt had become wet, he could feel it clinging to his back. Not only was he on the run, but now he was hurt and hurt bad but no matter how badly he was hurt as a hero he needed to protect those he put in danger in the first place.
Even when bleeding he smiled down at her in reply to her words of him not being able to do this alone, “I probably can’t.” he’d offer her a weak chuckle, “But if it means protecting you I’ll push myself to my limit.” he looked behind his shoulder and saw the Pidgeot still on them. He had done this once before and it had gotten him and his Pokemon hurt, but this time Zombie wouldn’t come to the rescue and he had to do more than be a hero it seemed. He had to fight to protect more than his ego.
Just as he opened his mouth to speak again she wrapped her arms around his neck, a gesture that caught him off guard and in a dipping motion he’d duck just feeling the feathers of the Pidgeot’s underbelly graze the nape of his neck. Though with all of his running the sudden movement made him stumbled forward. He held her closer than he should have and took a bad tumble, his arms tightened around her and he regained his balance.
“Alright, we’re gonna take a detour.” with the lead Pokemon infront of them now he’d make a sharp turn into the wooded area of the forest, “Keep an eye out for a place to hide.” At this point his running pace was slowed just a tad, he wasn’t tired but his ankle began to strain, likely a sprain. |
