Not from the minds of the people of the city, or the land that suffered the damage. What had brought him here? Well nothing more than pure curiosity if he were being honest with himself. Ethan just looked from a place some distance from the tower with flowers in hand as he took in the destructed land. Last month had held its own significance for the ex-cop that Ethan was more often stuck to the chair at a bar than he was outside paying attention to what was going on in the world. Now that he was out of the haze of his own depression he was curious about what he had missed. [break] [break] Though he didn’t know entirely what had happened here outside that the Team he now called himself a member of was a part of it, and in addition to that of the lives lost which couldn’t help but hit a cord with him. If he were thinking logically Ethan knew he should probably be second guessing his loyalties to the group. Especially with the destruction caused, however he only felt numb about the entire thing. Behind the numbness a possible feeling of schadenfreude as many could now possibly feel the same pain he did from his own loss. “Maybe I should start seeing that therapist again,” he couldn’t help but say out loud to only Malik who sat not too far behind him, the hound’s senses up as he couldn’t trust the place. Without another word Ethan tossed the flowers he had in hand as the wind blew around him. Despite his emotions, or lack thereof, the man knew that respects should be paid none the less. [break] [break] Without another word Ethan turned his back to the view of the tower and decided to explore the forest around him. In his younger days he had once come here having heard it was an amazing place to train, he couldn’t help but be curious if that were still true even if the tower was gone. Honestly he couldn’t pinpoint what it was exactly, could it be that because death was still in the air? Could be, which did mean that there was a possibility of trouble as if it were the case ghost pokemon would be scattered around. Which though Malik would be able to take on with ease, his intentions were to mostly train Toge today. Though who knows maybe out of these ghost pokemon he would find something worthy. And as though the universe was reading his mind about his desires a familiar pokemon was drifting about the wind not too far from him. [break] [break] It was none other than that one balloon pokemon that Ethan has seen firsthand how problematic they can be with their tendency to make people go missing. Also if he did want to train Toge she would be at a disadvantage, but that train of thought didn’t stop him from taking out his pokeball and calling the cactus pokemon out. She was bouncing foot to foot when released already excited for what she could get to do. If he was being honest Toge’s excitable personality got on his nerves a bit but he knows she can trust her to do dirty work. Thankfully the Driftloon hadn’t noticed them just yet as it wandered about. [break] [break] Ethan signaled for the grass type to be silent as he pointed toward the ghost pokemon, and she quickly nodded in agreement, “We’ll be starting off with a Poison Sting, let’s see if you can pop it,” he mused as Toge just smiled as she jumped off from tree to tree before she used poison sting sending the needles flying at the balloon. The cried out in some pain as the attack hit and as it turned by the look in its eyes Ethan was able to tell that the ghost had been poisoned that was good. [break] [break] Seemingly angry the Driftloon used Gust to counter, ‘Crap,’ was the only thing Ethan could think as the flying move blasted Toge away and slamming her into a tree. “There is no giving in, use absorb!” he ordered her wanting to take advantage of the ghost pokemon’s weakened attacks due to the poison. Now all he could do is hope for the poison to take it out as Toge was very much at a disadvantage. Wanting to continue to fight she did as she was told extending her arms and blasting a red beam at the driftloon to absorb it’s energy and add it to her own recovering her for now. As a way to defend himself Drifloon used Minimize but being the offensive type fighter Ethan she was he already had plans. [break] [break] “Growth,” he ordered and Toge surrounded herself with a green aura to strengthen herself, then as Driftloon flinched due to the poison taking its affect, Ethan knew it was time to take advantage, “Absorb once more,” he ordered knowing that with a combination of the Growth aiding in her attack, and the poisoning the driftloon suffered it would be enough for the finishing the ghost off. Though the purple glow that affected her after the driftloon was knocked out was concerning. [break] [break] Whatever the battle was won even if just barely and Ethan made sure to use a potion on Toge before she could faint. [attr="class","dngbrd brd1"] [attr="class","dngbrd brd2"] [attr="class","dngtxtcon"] Kneeling down the man took a good look at Toge’s body trying to see if there was any damage that would prevent her from continuing. He would probably still push her either way, but the last thing he needed was an obsolete pokemon traveling with him. Last thing he was going to bother with was training a crippled beast. Luckily for her she looked like she could keep going. “Come on,” he ordered as he stood himself up once more, leaving Toge outside her pokeball to walk with him and Malik for now. After all half the reason for this trip was to train her up, he was hoping for a decent pokemon as well as he had always heard rumors of ghost being quite powerful. Ethan could recall in his cop days where ghost pokemon would cause problems, and since he was starting new why not try a type that was out of his comfort zone? [break][break] It wasn’t long after they started their walk, and the sun’s light had almost completely faded away that Malik let out a growl meaning that there was another pokemon nearby. “Lead,” he simply ordered wanting to take advantage of Malik’s senses as he led them to what looked to be the gas pokemon. Well that was annoying, as good experience it would be for Toge to battle he knew very well that she didn’t have a decent enough move set to to any real damage to it. Especially since unlike the ghost from before this one would be immune from her poison. Alright Malik it was then, Ethan simply whistled and just like that Malik already knew what to do. [break][break] Malik jumped forward jumping from tree to tree before striking against the Ghastly, the ghost pokemon easily being knocked back in clear pain. So it was much weaker than Malik, and it wasn’t just a type advantage. Ethan watched as the ghost pokemon tried to regain its composer obviously wanting to counter the human who dared tried to sneak attack him. Question was, was the Ghastly worth it? After a moment of thinking the man decided giving a double whistle and Malik attacked using Crunch to finish off the ghost. Alright, just a little bit longer of walking around and hopefully he would encounter something a bit more violent for his new taste. [break] [attr="class","dngcomments"]WORDS: 390

It felt nice if he were being honest, thought at the same time it irked him that the feelings seemed… absent. It took Malik barking to bring him out of his thoughts as the man turned back to see the new ghost pokemon that has come across him. A Shuppet if he could recall the name of it, and by the looks of its glowing eyes it was doing something. “This is your doing isn’t it?” he quested the ghost, though it came out more like a statement than anything else. [break][break] The puppet pokemon just giggled in reply to the man, which would normally just make the man angry however just like his feelings from before they felt dulled. As if this pokemon was doing something, he tried to think of what one of his siblings had warned him about when it came to ghost pokemon as they were some self-proclaimed expert, “They feed on feelings,” he spoke to himself as he eyed the giggling ghost. Once again Malik barked and was about to make a move to attack though with a hand gesture the ex-cop forced him to stop as he walked passed both his pokemon and stood in front of the wild one. “You love the taste right?” he asked him and now the giggling ghost looked confused as Ethan brought out a pokeball. [break][break] “You can continued to feed if you want,” he offered, “I am a man who has lost their child, pokemon and people alike keep me angry and I often drink the problem away,” he paused as if to allow the puppet pokemon to take in what he was saying. “You can feed as much as you want on these dark thoughts of mine, and in return you get strong so that I can deal with the problems this world causes,” the man smiled darkly already feeling that this pokemon could be useful to him. “What do you say?” he asked Malik was now barking at him making it quite clear that he didn’t trust the ghost pokemon his partner wanted to join him, but Ethan ignored him as the ghost pokemon giggled and nodded at this liking the idea of having a meal nearby as he pressed the pokeball and allowed himself to be caught, for now agreeing to this beneficial relationship.
