Ahh, summer. While it reminded him of how he’d spend the holidays back in Hoenn wandering from place to place as the years sped by, he neve really did stay too long in one place because of the need to keep going. Even if in the middle of it all, he didn’t really like lingering around one place—mostly because there were things to do. Well, now that he was in another region altogether, he’d decided to take it a little easier and stop by one of the smaller towns to check out what was going on. Since he tended to linger around the area close to Fusube Blackthorn, he’d figured out a way to traverse the Ice Path, going in reverse until he reached Choji Mahogany…and was promptly surprised to see that there was something going down. There were booths set up at the town’s borders, and for some strange reason everyone was milling around wearing something he could swear he’d seen straight out of Enju Ecruteak. Taking a look at his own clothing, he sighed for a few moments, because for starters he stood out quite a bit with that overcoat and striped scarf of his. Now, how was he going to really have fun if he was dressed out of place? Ducking into the crowd as sneakily as possible, he looked around the stalls until he’d finally found one that was selling clothing appropriate for the event and had quickly bought one on the spot. After changing out of his normal clothes (but still keeping his blue-and-white striped scarf) he re-emerged into the crowd dressed in what the locals called a ‘yukata’, or something to that degree. He’d even switched out of his travelling boots and had replaced it with the pair of geta that came along with the clothes he was wearing, just so he didn’t stand out too much. Although there was the problem of his hair… but he’d deal with that later. He then began wandering around, looking over the booths and trying to pick out something that would catch his fancy. Eventually he’d settle on getting a fox-like mask and was wearing it strapped to one side of his head while resisting the urge to light up a cigarette… it had seriously been a while since he’d last taken a break and smoked a few sticks! A soft skittering noise eventually caught his attention, and his Joltik peeked out from one of the sleeves, looking around at the revelry and people milling about. “Kai, don’t go too far now…” he muttered around the weird-looking snack he was eating, which another one of the town locals called ‘takoyaki’. [attr="class","dfbase"] [attr="class","dftop"] [attr="class","dficon"] [attr="class","dfboxbase"] shark in the water [attr="class","dfbox"] "yata, yata!" he cheered in rejoice. one hop to his left, and then another on his right. he couldn't help himself. he was excited, he was too happy for what soon were to reside before him on his way toward mahogany town: the summer festival. it was, after all, july! and he was too excited. he adorned an all black and gold jinbei where, on his right, the gold resided; whereas, for his left, did the black. on first gaze one would not be surprised that his jinbei matched his own hair color, rather speechless really. but that was mateo for you, a guy who just had to show out. for his footwear one could see that he, too, would adorn a pair of wooden sandals--geta's if you will. mateo's fashionable bracelet, which usually acted as a holster for his poke ball's, were not seen upon his wrist today. rather, they were inside the top garment of his jinbei safely tucked away. "haha! oi, oi togepi! this will be your first time with me and eevee at a summer festival?! ah man, yer gonna love it, idjit!" his fierce togepi, known as yakuza due to its stern and serious face as though ready to gouge his enemies eyes out, was prep for the festival. he adorned a white headband with the design of a red sun upon it, along with fans he fiercely waved about with his tiny arms. togepi saw this as a very important mission rather than a gathering of friends and family. and, as much as mateo and his eevee explain it to the togepi, there was a high chance it was prepared to go in swinging on one or two individuals during their stay. "we're here!" mateo rejoiced as loud as can be, eevee following suit. "tako-ya-ki! ta-ko-ya-ki! ta-ko-ya-ki!" he was excited to feast upon his favorite snacks: takoyaki. and whenever he came to this city, be it for a social or business, he'd rush to the stores that sold them the most. but it wasn't until his attention would come to be met with the sudden sight of a blue scarf. a yukata plus a blue scarf in, no way, mixed. and that scarf was but no ordinary scarf, rather it was one he'd saw not too long ago. "oi, foreigner-idjit!" he merrily called with a tune of happiness. "short time, already seen again!" mateo, poorly, stated. "the fact you're here must mean it's my lucky day, hehe!" a wide grin invaded the youthful gym leader's face. showcasing his excitement for the festival. his togepi, remaining at his side next to eevee, would come to give a salute toward one of Lars Anderson pokemon that began to scatter about and left unattended. in doing so, a newcomer was soon to befall the duo's quaint reunion--soon, turning into a trio. While his Joltik squirmed around in one of the sleeves of his simple dark-blue yukata, Lars continued to eat away at the round balls that he’d learned was stuffed with seafood. Luckily, he wasn’t allergic to any of it, otherwise he’d be in for a bad time. As he speared the last piece and was about to pop it into his mouth (seriously, why were they just sold in sets of four? They were that tasty) he heard a familiar voice call his attention. At the same time, the bug hidden in his clothes shifted around, causing him to move around a little bit before the Joltik eventually emerged behind his neck and planted himself firmly on Lars’ shoulder. As he turned to look in the direction where the voice came from, he was… hella surprised to see the person that had called his attention. “Short time indeed,” he began, his eyebrows momentarily rising up to recognize the same man who’d accompanied him into the Dragon’s Den—accompanied by one of the little spike-ball Pokemon he’d encountered in the Safari Zone quite recently. The Joltik on his shoulder raised one of its stubby little limbs in greeting, before skittering in his direction. “You want to go down?” he asked the little yellow thing on his shoulder, before hearing something that sounded like an affirmative hum. “Be careful if you do, though. Please don’t get squashed underfoot,” he added as he watched the little yellow blur race down his left arm before hopping down and landing somewhere close to the Togepi. MADE BY ★MEULK

[nospaces] [attr="class","Vgentempbox"] [attr="class","Vgentemptitle"]and then this happened! [attr="class","Vgentempdiv"] Voices from the nearby stalls began to pick up as local held events began to start. A loud voice coming from a speaker and muttering some nonsense as girls began to push through the crowd and select a few people. [break][break] It was for a Gyoza eating contest! And you both were luckily selected to participate! [break][break] On a small made stage the host revealed large platters of the pork and cabbage stuffed wontons. Each halfboiled then fried for the perfect texture. Paired with terriyaki and soysauce for dipping, this was the meal of champions and these girls urged you to become their champion! [break][break] Prepare to eat so much you will puke!

[attr="class","dfbase"] [attr="class","dftop"] [attr="class","dficon"] [attr="class","dfboxbase"] shark in the water [attr="class","dfbox"] "Hey, hey, Lars!" He asked after the sudden departure of his Joltik. Togepi. responding to the Joltik's sudden appearance, gave it a sound grunt that was meant to be its own way of greeting the electric-type and acknowledging its presence. Togepi was, as usual, a stern Pokemon that took everything a bit way too serious. Mateo noticed how Lars's stare made it seem as if he barely recognized the male. How could anyone forget the current guardian of the Dragon Den? Unheard of! Especially since he was well known for leaving an impression.
But, regardless, that didn't matter. What mattered was the fact that he now had someone to drag around the festival with, and to his dismay he most certainly looked the part. Mateo, grabbing onto the blonde male's neck with his right, would come to pull him in with a jovial laughter. "Come on, idjit! Stop acting so scared to talk to me, I won't bite! Besides, we're here to have fun and celebrate. Unwind a little, Twinkle Toes!" Mateo gestured with a playful punch to the male's gut. "Hey, hey, now..." He casually said, cheeks turning red as two random females came before the duo to pull both he and Lars by their hands.
"W-What?!" He exclaimed, his cheeks no longer red. A Gyoza Eating Contest, an all you can eat buffet for free?! Mateo had the hunger of a dragon and this was practically his forte. "Ah, man, I'm starvin'! I'm definitely ready to dig in! Oi, Twinkle Toes idjit, let's do it!" And so without a second thought he rushed onto the stage to take his seat. Patting one beside him, he'd sign the blonde to come sit near him with a widened grin. "Ah man, gyoza, gyoza~! I get to eat some gyoza, woo~!" He was hungry and his Pokemon, nearby, watched as their trainer Mateo prepped himself to devour some good old-fashioned gyoza.

He could only wonder, did the leader of the Dragon’s Den have a split personality or something? Blinking, he then scanned the crowd in an attempt to look for his Joltik, but decided that he’d find the other later. Kaiju’s smart enough to find me, he knows where my Pokénav is anyway… he thought as he blinked again. “Wait, I’m not Twinkle…” he began, before he suddenly felt his hand getting pulled and they were immediately roped into an impromptu competition—an eating competition, of all things. Wait, what?! Was all he could think before they were hauled off to another booth—where row upon row, upon row of dumplings were laid out. He could tell his companion was extremely enthusiastic, but he wasn’t sure if his own stomach could handle eating so much. I hope I can survive this… he thought as he then sat himself down next to Mateo, looking over the rows of freshly-steamed dumplings and mentally preparing himself. “Alright, let’s do this,” he said, although there was a barely-noticeable thread of nervousness in his voice. Thank hell he only had that one serving of takoyaki before getting hauled into this. Now, the question he dared not ask: was this a speed-eating or an endurance-style kind of eating competition?
