Crazy clothes and... glitter. Well, he'd never heard Kalos summed up so easily before in his life. Well, the mainstream Kalos anyway. His own Kalos, the one he'd grown up around with his mothers, was far less crazy clothes and glitter. Though he did admittedly have a small obsession with things that sparkled. Fairy types included. But moreover, Leon tried hard not to be insulted by the idea that he was too small for the job. Truthfully, he was too small for most of the Ranch work. As a matter of fact, he'd had to pay men a bit of a hefty tip when order feed just so they'd unload it because he couldn't manage to unload it himself. He'd tried once and nearly killed himself and gotten mocked by the Miltank. No, he couldn't speak Miltank, but he knew laughter and mockery when he saw it. Damn cattle. The offense was shown in a short lifted grunt that had been quickly interrupted by the pat to his shoulder. Somehow, that one pat cleared away his irritation and caused him to calm down. That, and the terrible joke that Cooper laughed at. Oh, how couldn't Leon let a chuckle pass his lips at such artistry? " You're in the wrong field, Mr. Cooper." Poor Leon. Probably made Cooper feel old calling him 'Mr.' but Leon couldn't help himself. While his foster homes might have been terribly underclass, his mothers hadn't been. "see anythin'? or d'ya need to sit on my shoulders?"[break][break] perhaps, he spoke too soon. wisps of brine were carried on the breeze—alongside spikes. cooper pulled leon close to him as stubs of hard coral flew past. a flash of pink caught his eye as he spotted an aggressive corsola crying out from the middle of the field. a budew also rested in the grasses, its tight sprout bobbing back and forth with its excited gait.[break][break] "y'want a chance to impress me, pretty boy? show me how you and yer pokemon fight. i'll take the corsola on." cooper said to leon and tossed a ball. in a stunning arc, the red light summoned a mareep onto the field. "daisy, give the pink one a good ol' shock!"[break][break] its voluminous wool made the sheep look like a walking thunder cloud. within the soft spaces of its coat, electricity coursed like a tesla coil. she dodged another spike cannon as she advanced, zigzagging dramatically across the battlefield in an effort to create more charge for her imminent assault. a high-pitched wail announced a third spike cannon to which cooper responded boldly:[break][break] "cotton guard!"[break][break] mareep's wool seemed to expand and toughen; it dwarfed its head and body in a ridiculous manner—but it was surprisingly effective. in futile angles, the coral lodged themselves into the net-like webs of wool. the electricity ensnared the rocky tips and with a screech, daisy expelled all of her pent up electricity. the brilliant yellows of a well-distanced and well-executed discharge illuminated the sunny field further, over-exposing it before revealing a scorched corsola.[break][break] "back to the ocean with ya! y'shouldn't even be wandering all the way here anyway! shoo! sod off!" cooper said.[break][break] his attention now fully on leon, cooper gave him a rich look of support and imposing expectation.[break][break] word count: 362[break]

Leon decided to let the ruffle to his hair slide. Why? Because it really wasn’t worth the battle. Cooper had a habit of ruffling Leon’s hair and by this point Leon simply took it as a compliment. His hair must have been pretty soft and perfect for Cooper to feel the need to ruffle it constantly. And who was Leon to stop him? He’d be a fool not to simply take the hair ruffling as worship. Better than getting upset about it, at any rate. The comment about sitting on Cooper’s shoulders, however, was nearly interrupted not by the complaint he’d thought out rather quickly but instead by the way Cooper had taken it upon himself to engulf Leon and pull him aside out of the way of danger. “ Eep.” He mumbled the shocked comment with wide eyes as he saw Cooper immediately leap into action. As Cooper and Mareep battled, Leon gave a fond smile. What a pair these two made. It was absolutely beautiful. The two of them were … well, they were strong. It was a word Leon never particularly placed with himself. He was scrawny and his eevee was the biggest coward this side of Johto. Now, Leon had been a trainer before and had gotten decently far in Kalos before deciding to become a coordinator - what a bomb that had been - and then a Breeder now that he was in Johto. But even greater still was how effortless Cooper and mareep’s battle seemed to appear. In a way, Leon was jealous. In another way, Leon felt fueled. Not to impress, mind you, but instead not to be left in Cooper’s dust. “ You know, I’ve never seen you battle.” He mentioned to Cooper before looking over to Cooper and giving a wink. Why? Because no, he hadn’t missed that ‘pretty boy’ comment. “ I’ll warn you. Taft’s a coward, so don’t expect too much.” After tossing his pokéball out which held his eevee, Taft, he placed the pokéball effortless back where it belonged. The Budew was acting quickly, immediately using a worry seed. “ Don’t let it hit you, Taft. Use quick attack to move in close but don’t hit, the budew are known for their poison point. Instead, use a swift at close range. Don’t give that budew another chance at that worry seed.” The last thing he needed was a sleeping eevee. What a great first impression that would be.Although Leon’s tone was confident, Taft looked a little panicked as the worry seeds were flung his way. He used a quick attack and dodged the incoming seeds, moving close into the bedew’s personal space. An apologetic grunt was given as he quickly used a swift at close range. The budew was taken aback by the attacks, screeching as it rolled backwards from the assault. He’d thought the worry seed would be enough! But no, seemed as if this eevee was a bit more ruthless than he first gave it credit. Either way, it’s immediate response was a growth, taking the moments given to gather a bit of defense and hopefully strengthen his offense. “ Don’t give it a chance, move in quick with another quick attack and swift combination.” Taft followed Leon’s commands, cutting the distance between himself and using yet another quick attack with a follow up swift. This time the budew knew it was coming and was able to counter with an absorb. As Taft was hit with the attack, he immediately turned and gave the budew his big, baby doll eyes. It was his default before running away. “ Oh no you don’t! Another swift, quick!” Hearing his trainer’s command had Taft wincing as he used the distraction of his eyes to get in another quick swift attack like his trainer had asked. Once it hit, the budew rolled into the patches of grass. Taft’s heart beat quickly in his chest as he huffed and watched the grass patch it’d rolled into. With no return, the eevee immediately rejoiced, bouncing on his feet and skipping to his trainer in pure joy. Even Leon had let out a small yelp and clapped for Taft. “ Oh, very well done!” He let out a laugh before bending down and scooping the eevee up into his grasp. “ How’s that for a pretty boy, boss?” He smiled as he picked Taft up, petting the proud eevee just where he liked to be pet. words. 781 notes. wow sorry i don't know why it got so long... taft the eevee +2 lvls (5 -> 7) Cooper Armstrong |

"gotta start somewhere." cooper said, in response to taft's supposed cowardice.[break][break] cooper stroked his chin and smiled to himself as leon educated his companion. so he was being serious. kalosian wealth was not just confined to the monetary realm. no, leon was seemingly able to pull from his vault of knowledge. an invaluable trait of a breeder.[break][break] after the budew fell, cooper nodded proudly. he recognized something in leon during the ensuing celebration. something valuable. something meant to be cultivated—and he clapped in thick waves.[break][break] "heh. not bad. could do better." cooper refused to give in. it was too early. "not sure if it's because yer from lumiose, but y'got a spark... here." he tossed a canteen of water toward the blond before setting up some dishes against the grass. "drink up or yer gonna dry up like an onion fairy. your pokemon too."[break][break] cooper grunted as he receded to a seat. his mareep drank from her own dish, one that bore a horned 'HR' and a painted name: daisy.[break][break] "so, leon. y'like johto so far? or are y'homesick?" cooper said. "i've seen many like ya and they've always flaked. what makes you any different, eh?"[break][break] suddenly, beads of water floated from their dishes, their bottles and canteens. like raindrops streaking across a window, globules of their precious beverage were drawn to a pink shape in the grasses. a shellos cried frenetically, happy to be collecting water with its storm drain. but daisy wanted none of this shit. she wanted to relax. enjoy a water break in relative peace and quiet, but no, this sea slug had to come and ruin everything.[break][break] mareep bleated like a horse of the apocalypse. reared her head, pivoted around before taking down the shellos with a concentrated headbutt. the shellos shrieked as it tumbled back. cooper quickly followed them. he shouted at his companion; the danger of a mud slap was imminent and before the warning could fully register in the sheep's ears, a spattering of brown battered daisy's coat and body. bleating with a vengeance, daisy slammed the shellos further away- purposefully creating distance between her and cooper. immediately, the sheep expelled her electricity (discharge). in a startling display, the light enveloped her body, tendrils of electricity scattering like lichtenberg figures in the air. but her body was more slender. more lithe, and as the light softened, the aftermath revealed a KO'd shellos and a newly evolved flaaffy.[break][break] cooper shouted real big. whistling with fingers in his mouth as he rushed toward his companion. "daisy, look atcha! y'got a temper, but in a way, i guess that's paid off! aheh!" he motioned to leon. "daisy's evolved!"[break][break] word count: 542[break]

Leon’s eyes bulged as the canteen was thrown his way. He caught it, wincing as he nearly dropped Taft. The eevee clung to him with his paws and then crawled up onto his shoulder. With a smile, he gave Cooper a thankful nod before taking a drink. He put some in his hand for Taft but it started to float up, and out of his hand, and away from his hands. Seemed Taft was more aware of the Pokémon using an ability around them than Leon initially thought. Huh.Seeing the two of them dart off had Leon shutting the canteen and taking Taft into his arms, following after and watching the battle. As the light started to shine around, he squinted his eyes and Taft tucked his head into his trainer’s arms to hide his face from the bright light. Once it passed, Taft’s head poked out and his ears popped up with curiosity. Leon’s face was holding a tender smile at the two before him. He couldn’t help how he laughed, leaning back and setting Taft down on the ground. “ To answer your question, I’m loving Johto so far, and every single thing it’s had to offer.” His job, his boss, this experience— Leon, for once in his life, didn’t really have much to complain about in the realm of his life besides the average stupid person. As Taft was set down, he began walking toward the new flaffy with his ears perked upright. He couldn’t help but notice the new shape, but the Pokémon was still the same, just different. Evolution seemed like something Taft almost needed to do. Maybe it would make him braver? Or maybe he’d become braver because of his evolution? Oh, who was he to know? With a strange singing vibrating through the air, Taft moved over toward Leon and rubbed against his leg before moving toward the wiggling and jiggling singing noise. Leon’s eyebrow lifted as he looked toward where Taft’s attention was drawn. “ Congratulations to you two, by the way.” He was referring to the evolution and speaking to Cooper, though his eyes remained on Taft. “ Hey, don’t poke things you aren’t familiar with. Namely when they’re shifting and singing suspiciously, sir.” But it was too late. The shifting mess of tangled tangela vines moved out to grip the eevee and constrict him. He quickly yelped and retaliated instinctually, biting the vines that wrapped around his body. The tangela immediately let the eevee go, shifting and shaking out some sleep powder so the little fluffy rat would leave him alone. “ Quick attack!” Leon had been watching intently and that powder was a terrible thing. “ Don’t let the spores get you, Taft!” Leon’s panic was shared in Taft. His body immediately moved around from the tangela, and he backed away from the ingrained Pokémon. Seemed he had been soaking up the sun and getting himself a good feeding from his roots while singing. Taft felt a little bad for accidentally messing with his groove, but at the same time, he could have just asked Taft to go away and not attacked. Oh well. “ Focus Taft! Use swift now that you’re far enough from those spores.” Leon’s words guided the eevee. As soon as his feet hit the ground, he was using a swift toward the tangela from behind. The fact that the tangela was ingrained helped him out, seemed that another round of sleep powder was sprinkled around the tanglea, since he couldn’t very well see his target. Taft snorted proudly at the fact that the powder had missed, using yet another swift. The roots of the tangela came up, and the tangela used those cute little red feet of his to feel into the grass, no longer singing as carefree as he had before. Leon gave Taft a smile. “ Look at you! Two in a row, what am I gonna do with you?” Leon bent down to pet through the eevee’s fur, grinning over at Cooper. “ Johto’s been a sort of awakening for Taft. He was never much of a fighter. "hey, thanks! always think i'll get used ta it, but every time it happens, i get a lil bit breathless."[break][break] as he caught his breath, leon and taft nimbly conquered the tangela's vines. the ensuing cheers and jamboree allowed cooper to forget for a little while. forget about balancing the books. forget about the uneasy viral shift trembling underneath the sickly skin of johto.[break][break] "heh, well fancy that!" cooper's vast voice boomed as he squatted down beside leon. "how 'bout you? were ya much of a fighter?" he asked the question with a hidden dread. cooper sensed danger developing in the guts of the region. he sensed it like how he sensed a pokemon's potential: the breeder's instinct. "truth is, johto's goin' through some rough patches right now..."[break][break] after more rest, cooper suggested they head back. the sun was becoming unbearably hot, and sweat clung to cooper's skin like desert jewels. his flaaffy led the way, marching on her hind legs as if guiding a parade- she was proud to have progressed so far. but her hubris blinded her to a bundle of vines spread across the path. she tripped and as her head touched the ground, a carnivine vaulted up from the grass, mouth hissing as it expanded in a frightening shape (bite).[break][break] "jus' when I thought we could skedaddle right outta here. daisy! with yer tail! thunder wave!"[break][break] unable to move off the ground in time, her tail loomed forward length-wise across her back. the blue bauble glowed and grew bright before wave upon wave of electric chains dispersed around the predator's greedy maw. moaning, the carnivine's loose form fell limp as it struggled to regain shape. however, several vines had already (binded) flaaffy's bare mid-section. the vines were like autumnal snakes swallowing mice as they pulsed to constrict the poor sheep.[break][break] "what a half-wit! discharge, wont'cha?" a smug look flashed on cooper's mug while daisy conducted her electricity through carnivine's cables in powerful surges, each pulse of current stronger than the last.[break][break] the vines finally withered back to their owner and flaaffy was freed.[break][break] word count: 453[break]

Leon smiled at Taft as Cooper spoke, but the sudden serious that crossed Cooper’s tone caught him off guard. So much so that he turned to watch as Cooper spoke with a strange alertness. That alertness also led him to realize that Cooper was slowly losing his clothing one button at a time. Focus on his words, Leon. His words. What did he say?“ I’ve noticed something,” he couldn’t help how he got up to move with Cooper and his new pink sheep, watching as they stared yet another battle. “Just thought it was my own paranoia.” But instances like this reminded him that Johto was probably just as sick as every other region... then again, all this talk about Team Virus? Maybe Leon needed to do a little bit of history or digging to see what all the hullabaloo was about. Oh, hang on. Wait. Hold it... hullabaloo? You’re rubbing off on me Cooper, and not in the way I’d prefer...With a small sigh, he set Taft down and made his way over to Cooper. “ At least you’re quick on your feet.” He was referring to the fact that it took his shock-sheep a moment to realize she needed to discharge. “ I mean, she is still getting used to a new body. Can’t blame her, can you?” As he was set down, Taft had made his way around sniffing. Once he found something in the bushes, it wiggled and nearly slapped him in the face. It did, however, splash him in the face with some water for the puddle it was in. Taft snorted his nose and made a whining growl of a sound, before bouncing backwards and giving a swift out of habit. The swift noise had Leon lifting a brow curious. “ Hm?” He then slowly turned and looked at Taft before furrowing his brows at him. “ What have you done?” He then saw the Magikarp that was lunged from it’s puddle and writhing around. “ You... it’s a Magikarp Taft! It literally only knows Splash!” Could he really help how he was laughing? Not at Taft, just at the situation, and a little at Taft. But that was alright, because he was on a brave roll! The laughter only had the Eevee turning in small circles and basically purring. How silly of him. He’d just handled a real Pokémon, he could handle a Magikarp! He moved toward it and chomped his jaws down. The Magikarp moved a lot more than he thought it was going to, which had Taft groaning and biting down harder. The Magikarp finally stopped moving and thankful that he had, Taft dropped the fish back in it’s pound so it could wiggle and be happy once it woke up. Leon couldn’t help how he leaned toward Cooper and laughed, smiling brightly at his little Eevee. “ My knight in shining armor, right there...” He turned to look at Cooper with a brow raised. “ Is the region really that bad off right now?” Taft had closed the distance between them and that had Leon moving his arms out so Taft could jump into them- which he did, almost immediately upon their outstretch. words. 527 notes. taft the eevee +2 lvls total of six lvls this thread.
