Making way along the two-way path that Route 37 consisted of, Derek had his eye out for any kinds of movement, whether they were human or pokemon in nature making no difference. He was out here alone again with hopes that wouldn't be the case for long, as it was said to be a bit more dangerous here than on the other routes. No matter. The trainer trusted in his pokemon to see him out of the place. It was just a matter of if he could draw the pokeball of his in time before a wild one could do him in for good.

Yet even after rounding the small tree at the end of the path, Derek hadn't seen much anything, only the sounds of pokemon. He'd looped around coming back the the start of the trail, wondering if he should have another go. Thankfully as he approached, the silhouette of another person could be made out from a distance. As he drew closer to the start of the trail leading out from Enju City, he realized that the person seemed vaguely familiar. Liam, was it? No...

It was his break and a quick bike ride had him away from the farm enough that he couldn’t smell the Miltank poo that was definitely in his clothes. The farm smelled nice, and honestly, if he hadn’t been working in the stalls he wouldn’t be so irritated by the smell if the Miltank were good sports about it. But there was one Miltank in particular who thought it was a hilarious idea to try and kick as much dirt and poo as possible onto the dainty blonde Kalosian who cleaned their stall.[break][break] He swore Cooper only wanted him in the stalls for the lulz.[break][break] So once he'd finished the stalls he made his way out for a break and to get some fresh air, maybe some fresh breedable Pokemon. Honestly, he was taking every chance he could to try and get a ditto. It was odd, but he honestly just wanted to try and breed anything by this point. Mostly, he had a few requests come in, and because they didn't have a male and a female of the same Pokemon, and because Leon didn't have a ditto to make up for the lacking gender, Leon had to turn them down. It felt awful and Leon didn't want to have to do that more than twice.[break][break] So! Out he was, about, in a route, hoping that maybe a ditto might show up. It wasn't likely, but, eh, people could dream, right? He was definitely dreaming. And not just figuratively, but also literally. With his body sprawled out on the grass and a Zangoose protectively curled by his side, Leon was laying down with his eyes closed after finishing his lunch. He'd packed it all away into his backpack and set his backpack on the ground to serve as a pillow while he rested.[break][break] Just five minutes with his eyes closed and he'd get to work. Before he could properly think of an approach to say hi to the familiar face, Derek noticed a duo of pokemon headed their way. "Hey, watch out!" He called over to the person laying down on the grass. Having been looking for a battle all day with no results to show for it, the trainer was quick to pluck a pokeball out of it's holster and release the companion inside. "Zeke, use Inferno on that Mawile!"

Being rather swift to respond, the Charmeleon spewed a large wave of flames that engulfed the opponent and burned them before they could advance any further. Now occupied with their opponent, it was only the Azumarill they needed to worry about. Hoping they had it handled, Derek sought to continue with winning this battle as the Mawile fought back with a mean Crunch.

Disliking being bitten by the Mawile, Zeke immediately began to breathe more fire in the direction of the Mawile; this time in the form of a Fire Spin. The pokemon and it's well-being were being gradually chipped at, leaving the wild creature to retaliate with a quick use of it's Iron Head attack.

Zeke reeled back from the blow, but ultimately he would stand his ground against the attacker. Inhaling once more, his chest swelled to it's fullest capacity just before Derek called for a use of it's "Flamethrower!" attack. Surrounding the Mawile in more fire yet, it came as no surprise to either of them as the wild pokemon lost consciousness. Choosing now to gaze over towards that familiar person, Derek wondered if the wild pokemon had got the jump on them and their Zangoose. Hopefully the Azumarill would not prove too much of a challenge for them, and they wouldd be able to deal with it quickly without sustaining any serious injury.

He was groggy, still tired, and a little bit confused. He'd heard shouting and suddenly it was very hot. Suddenly, Zan was jabbing in him the side, which had him calling out and recoiling away from her, only to see the fire and pick her up in his arms to retreat.[break][break] After backing away, she pushed away from his arms to get down onto the ground. He didn't need to hold her, thanks. And she'd deny that they cuddled as well; if asked of course. Otherwise, she'd be saying nothing.[break][break] " Hey..." Leon's brows furrowed as he heard the trainer's commands and watched his Pokemon move and battle. " Wait... wait a second." He pointed toward the trainer and looked down at Zan. " Zan, I think I know that guy."[break][break] The look Zan gave her trainer read, 'congratulations loser' in big bold letters. She did not, however, go any further with her insulting glances.[break][break] Seeing that Zan was judging him once more, he turned his attention to the route turned battlefield. Until something bumped into his leg. " Hm?" Leon glanced down at the little dual type with a beaming smile. " Well, aren't you a cutie?" He couldn't help himself. Fairy types, dual or otherwise, they were his damn weakness.[break][break] Zaumarill gave a cute and warming smile before outright blowing a BUBBLE BEAM Leon's way. He laughed with a stubby blue hand on his tummy as Leon reeled back and complained letting out various squealing noises. Each one made the Azumarill laugh harder.[break][break] And cue Zan's jealousy. Oh hell no somebody else wasn't laughing at her dumbass of a blondie. That was her job, ta. In an effort to prove herself, she strengthened herself with HONE CALWS. The Azumarill's response was curling in on herself to prepare herself for a ROLL OUT.[break][break] As she curled, Leon moved out of the way and looked toward Zan. " It's a Roll Out!" Zan didn't have as much knowledge in moves as Taft, so Leon usually had to step into battles to give her a heads up. " Easy to dodge, he's only aiming by memory!"[break][break] Zan's speed made it easy to evade the attack, dodging the rolling blue blur. As he popped open and looked around in confusion to locate the Zangoose, Zan snuck up behind her for a QUICK ATTACK. As it hit, the Azumarill shrilled in pain and turned around, whipping out an enraged TACKLE since the Zangoose was close enough for a quick it.[break][break] She couldn't get away in time, the tackle got her side, but she used the distance to her own advantage and countered with a SCRATCH. As the Azumarill fell over in pain, Leon tossed out a Pokeball in an attempt to capture, which made Zan stare him down like he had a second head popping out of his shoulders.[break][break] Leon watched the ball wiggle on the ground, fist clenched. Because of another pokemon headed his way, Derek was unable to go over and help the other trainer like he had wanted to. Instead of giving any kind of specific plan, he simply told the Charmeleon to "Burn it like the rest of'em." A lazy choice of words, but it would certainly get the job done as Zeke began to exhale an Inferno unto the closing Drifloon. It even appeared to be burned after closer inspection.

Yet proving eager to retaliate, the wild ghost and flying type launched a Shadow Ball towards the Charmeleon. Reluctant to dodge because his trainer was standing close by, the fire lizard took the brunt of the attack and emerged relatively unscathed. His skin looked a bit off, but otherwise Zeke was still in the fight.

Derek remained silent, looking over to the other trainer and the Azumarill he'd been trying to capture; or was it befriend? He wasn't quite able to tell, however the evident silence was enough to inform Zeke, the Charmeleon, that he was free to act on his own. Another use of his fire came forth, spittign a Fire spin from his mouth and around the Drifloon.

Another Shadow Ball would come their way, but this time Derek had watched the dark orb forming and evacuated the immediate proximity. Zeke, knowing this, side-stepped the attack and simply went for a swift Dragon Rage on the opponent. Knocking them back with the sheer force of it, the wild Drifloon was pushed back into a tree and seemed to lose consciousness before falling down with it's body slumped against the tree. It even appeared to deflate some, making a funny noise...

"Alright, now that that's over..." Derek said, gazing over towards the individual. "Let's see about them." Pacing over to his fellow trainer who'd been in the process of dealing with their end, Derek observed their efforts quietly before suddenly realizing. "Oh, that's right! You're Leon!" He felt bad for not remembering sooner, but at least it wasn't like he openly admitted to forgetting it or anything...

"Yes!!" He gave a laugh before taking a seat. It wasn't the first Pokemon he'd caught, but it was the first fairy type! Who wouldn't be excited about that, honestly? [break][break] From within the brush, a Pokemon had been stalking. She bounced out and LICKed the Pokemon and its trainer. Leon let out a squeal of sorts and wiggled away from the small fairy type that hand licked him.[break][break] "Oh, hey cutie." Though Leon had paid her a compliment, she growled and lowered her head. " No no!" Leon stood, tossing Taft. He landed, and as Leon cleared the Snubbull's HEADBUTT path, Taft released a SWIFT. As it hit, the Snubble groaned. Seemed it'd gotten in a good hit in her back.[break][break] "Don't go easy Taft! She's obviously territorial." And he was damn well busy, not willing to leave. Would that thing have attacked him if he had been asleep? God, that would have been awful.[break][break] Taft used another SWIFT, watching as the Snubbull closed in and flaming fangs bit down on Taft's shoulder. He cried out, feeling a BURN settle into his shoulder. But, he quickly brushed it off, REFRESHing himself by creating a bit of distance. Once more, Snubull pulled his head down to run with a HEADBUTT in mind for the Eevee. Taft used SWIFT against the Pokemon as it closed in, watching as she was hit dead on by the array of stars.[break][break] Leon watched the Snubbull move away from them, whining and snorting as she withdrew. Leon gave Taft a pat before smiling over at Derek as he got closer. "Hey!" Leon greeted with a smile. "Look at that cutie," Leon bent down to look at what he once knew as a Charmander, but was now definitely a Charmelon. "Zeke. You're looking spectacular. Derek couldn't help but chuckle some at the notion he'd been feeding Zeke well. "Oh yeah. A fair amount of training, too. Although I was giving him a break up until now...I have a lot of pokemon to care for, so it's hard to make time for him." Having moved closer, Derek flashed a friendly smile down towards Taft. "Nice work on that catch by the way." Looking over to the impression of Leon's body still in the grass, Derek decided to sit down where he was in order to relax.

All the while the Charmeleon flexed his muscles a bit, looking to Taft with a look that said "You can get these guns too." It wasn't exactly characteristic of Zeke, but the trainer figured it must've been because he neglected to praise the Charmeleon for it's efforts and wanted to make some kind of point.

Placing his hands against the grass to keep himself upright as he crossed his legs, both appendages would grasp some strands of grass in them before releasing. Sometimes it was nice to just take in the little things nature had to offer. Derek was starting to forgot that in his pursuit of becoming a great trainer. It made him frown a little as he thought on it...

"So what were you doing before me and all these pokemon showed up?" He inquired, looking up at the sky. "Enjoying the view, perhaps?" The sun and the clouds overhead made for quite a pleasant sight. Even the Charmeleon looked upwards with it's trainer, contemplating things even Derek wasn't quite aware of.

He was such a character and Leon so loved his more comedic and warm sides. Well, that was an unintentional pun, though no less true. Zeke was an easy Pokemon to be around, flaming tail aside.[break][break] As Derek took a seat so to did Leon, holding Taft in his arms as he listened to the question asked of him. His own legs curled into an Indian Style as he let Taft get comfortable in his lap. The soft fur of Taft's body felt nice against Leon's fingers and he began playing with it as he looked toward Derek.[break][break] "That's sort of a loaded question." Leon let out a small chuckle, moving to look away from Derek as he answered. It was hard to look at Derek without getting jealous. Of his jaw. Of his hair. Of his smile. He was a very attractive guy and Leon often thought if he were to try and look a certain way other than himself, he'd lean more toward looking a bit like Derek. Sharp, fit, happy. Wow, he really could work on the happy bit. Huh. Maybe Zatka Matrick had a point with that 'smile once a day' stuff after all.[break][break] "Mostly I've just been working." Very impersonal response. "I started working at a ranch here and I've really found my spot there. I'm enjoying working with the Pokemon, I'm enjoying the employees and my boss isn't completely infuriating?"[break][break] Cooper was a lot of things and had made Leon angry before, but he was not by any means infuriating. Attractive, strange, different, but not infuriating. Confusing, maybe. Annoying, possible. But he'd never been angry with Cooper before... though he wouldn't say there wasn't room for it.[break][break] "But what about you?" Leon asked with a grin. "I don't see your name in the Champion boards. What's that about?" He was teasing, moving his knee to nudge Derek's just to prove that he was teasing him. "Are you just lazing about? "Hah. Yeah, I suppose I am slacking off some...especially sitting around like this." Derek teased back light-heartedly, though he knew he'd been training his pokemon well. Perhaps he could have been harder on them, but Derek wasn't going to do it out of an attempt to be harder on himself. Results came when they came. That was just how things were. There was never going to be a use griping about it, and that just wasn't the type of person he was to begin with.

"Zeke here has actually received the least training, to be completely honest. Sure, he's still pretty strong, although I've got a lot of other contenders to keep him and his ego in check." The Charmeleon snorted at this and turned away from Derek, moving to sit behind the trainer with it's back turned to him.

"But at least it sounds like you've been doing well." Being a breeder seemed interesting enough, though Derek knew he couldn't deal with staying at a ranch for extended periods of time. Staying on the move was a lifestyle the trainer was definitely suited for. "I'd hate to hear it if you were disappointed working the job. I'd offer you to come along with me around the region if that were the case...although I don't have the money to stay anywhere nice. I tend to crash in the nearby pokemon centers, or pitch a tent out in the wild."

Smiling some as he thought further on his adventures, Derek turned to Leon before making an inquiry of him. "Do you pay attention to any of the gym leaders? I actually don't know which one I should challenge first. Definitely not Mateo. He's from my hometown, so I wanted to save that battle for last." Waiting on their answer, Derek leaned back against his Charmeleon, who had been playing with his tail and using it to set individual blades of grass on fire.

Leon kept an eye on the Charmeleon as it moved around to take a seat and began singing blades of grass because it was cross. He looked back to Derek when questions were directed his way and honestly thought on the idea of being a trainer. It set... well it didn't set bad on his shoulders. Would he rather own his own ranch and find somebody to settle down and run it with him? Hell yes he would. Would he be against traveling a bit to find that person? No, no not really.[break][break]
But honestly? "I've done the trainer thing and, as flattering as it is that you'd have me by your side, I'll have to decline the offer." Leon smiled as his formal denial ended, letting out a laugh as he took in a deep breath. "I remember enjoying it, but enjoying the Pokemon I had. Learning about them, watching them grow. That's what I enjoyed, not the battle. A battle against wild pokemon? Sure. Battles against trainers? Well, that's where everything sort of..." He motioned with his hands an explosion while blowing raspberries.[break][break]
He shifted in his seat and shrugged his shoulders. "Personally, I'm doing alright. Physically, I'm sore all the time and really sure hire some more help, but, you know." He laughed before leaning back and smiling. "It's hard, but it's fun, and I enjoy doing this more than traveling around and sleeping in the dirt." His hands motioned around them, sitting in the dirt. "This is alright, this is social. Pitching tents? Nope, not fun." He laughed before leaning back on his elbows and looking up at the sky.[break][break]
"I don't keep up with the gym leaders, like, at all. Somebody told me I looked like one of them once... I can't even be bothered to remember which one." He laughed before turning to look at Derek with a smile. "This is why I'd suck as a trainer, right here. I have the memory of a Magikarp when it comes to that stuff." [break][break]
