the things that you might like don't grow inside of me How many years had it been? Twenty? And yet nothing seemed to have changed save for her. Truth be told, Elinda had no idea that she was going to be traveling to Johto, and for the longest time she'd simply assumed that particular chapter of her life had been far behind her. Triumphs, discovery, mistakes, regrets... while she'd been to a great many regions during her career as an active trainer Johto in particular held a great deal of personal meaning to Elinda, right behind Sevii. There wasn't a corner of the land that she hadn't known after nearly a decade traveling it and Kanto, especially considering that a great number of vagrant trainers often spent no more than a year in a given region just to challenge the League before moving on. All of that said...... There was something quite surreal about having left a place as a teenager going on adult, and then returning at the age of thirty six. It wasn't exactly like she was seeing the place through a different set of eyes, but the fact that she had changed - physically, mentally, emotionally - since last stepping foot in the region wasn't something that Elinda was quite able to get out of her head. Nor was it like they were even on the region's main landmass. Tanba City was a weird place. While technically part of Johto and officially included on its maps, it was at the same time quite separate from the rest of the region and not just in the physical sense. The pharmacy in particular had always been a location of note, but the contest scene was the only new development Elinda could really think of. At the same time, though, the cities had never really been of all that much interest to the blond. People had never exactly been something that Elinda had understood all that well. She had no trouble sizing them up as potential opponents nor of getting in their heads where tactics and strategy was concerned, but that was because it was common ground. What motivated their actions rarely made sense by comparison, nor did the social hang ups of why they did or didn't do certain things. Pokemon, however? To say that the wilderness was what called to Elinda was a bit of an understatement, and without Metagross present she had a bit of time to kill before the next ship arrived in Tanba and could safely ferry people to Asagi, and Route 47 was just as she remembered it. Rugged, unforgiving and beautiful all at once. Clad in her crimson travel coat and the black shirts, jeans and work boots beneath it, Elinda wasn't following the well worn trails of the cliffs above but rather retracing far older and less traveled paths that followed the rivers at the bottom of the canyons and ravines. Aside from having one major benefit in that it allowed a bit of privacy and introspection, it was a far better fit for her travel companion as Mudkip casually splashed along in the shallows, trailing along after the trainer.

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] "Oi, acting cute won't save you, you know."Ears dropped as his tail swept the ground, Kyle's Mightyena sat on the water's edge with a pair of shoes beside him, a feeling of guilt clearly painted on his expression. He held his head down, eyes simply trained on the flowing water below him, though he still kept giving quick glances to his trainer from time to time, checking to see if the annoyed look on Kyle's face was gone, before avoiding direct eye contact once again. Kyle, however, had been on the river, shorts rolled up in a way that it won't touch the water. Bending over, his hands ran across the rock and debris that litter the riverbed, searching for a particular item that his Mightyena had lost. The trail above had been a much safer, more convenient route to take, though circumstances led them to go down. The inconvenience would have normally been ignored, had it not been for the fact that he was forced to get wet in an otherwise nice weather. The Dark-type barked once, seeing distant figures approach to their direction. "What is it now?" he'd groan, not even taking a glance at his Pokemon and instead, focused on trying to find the object that had been thrown off of the cliff. He wasn't sure if the current had taken it away, but he knew that it fell around the place he has been searching at. MADE BY NOVA

the things that you might like don't grow inside of me Elinda had to admit, if there was one thing that she wasn't all that used to seeing this far out from the cities it was other people. Well, humans. Pokemon were everywhere and it was more a matter of whether or not you were paying attention closely enough to notice the locals with them, but people in general tended to prefer the comforts of civilization and gravitated towards those. Trainers were an odds exception to that rule much of the time but even they tended to frequent the beaten paths more often than not, treating the wilderness between cities and towns as the journey rather than destinations in their own right. To say that she was surprised on rounding the corner and seeing another individual down in the canyon - more specifically, the river - than the roped off paths and bridges above would've been an extreme understatement. Truthfully she wasn't entirely sure it was another human at first as they were a fair distance off, although as she continued along and drew close enough to make out the Mightyena next to him Elinda couldn't mistake the bipedal form for anything else. What the dark haired kid - barely much older than her own son - was doing down in the river was anyone's guess, though. Had he gotten lost? Unlikely with the Mightyena at his side as the Pokemon were well suited to such terrain, and despite their rather bad reputation they made faithful, protective companions. Nor did he seem particularly distressed so much as annoyed. That, however, was an emotion that Elinda was well used to seeing expressed by others and not all that big a deal breaker where conversation was concerned. Having closed to several meters away but well within earshot by this point, though, it was now relatively easy to see what the boy was doing. Specifically, searching for something in the river. "Lost something important?" Elinda called out, slowing her pace and hands in her coat pockets as she simply stood and watched, expression halfway between mild concern and amusement. No closer, though, as she hadn't gotten a good enough read on the Dark type to know how he might react to a sudden intrusion of their personal space. The Pokemon had seen her and Mudkip approaching from a fair distance away, sure, but there was still common courtesy to be observed and not all Pokemon were so rational about such things. For Exhibit A, the Surskit that had apparently taken exception to Mudkip's presence in the river. While Elinda had effectively ignored the Bug type both due to it not being of her preferred type and the fact that she had no interest in picking fights with Pokemon just going about their business, the Surskit in question had been glaring at the first Pokemon/human pair for a number of minutes but hadn't acted out of a sense of self preservation. His river it may've been, but he knew exactly how a fight with an evolved Pokemon of that nature would end. The Mudkip, however, was much closer to his weight class and he made his displeasure known as he called out in warning to the other Water type. Mudkip, for his part, was left more confused than scared as he simple paused mid splash and turned to face the source of the noise, head quizzically tilting and unsure what to make of the threat until the first warning shot of Bubbles was launched his way, foam lightly pushing the Water type back. Seemingly unharmed and more delighted than upset, Mudkip would roughly shake the bubbles off of his body before bounding towards the Bug type in what Surskit took as an act of war. "Or was it you?" Elinda continued, seemingly oblivious to the fight starting a few meters behind her as she shifted her attention to the Mightyena and squatted down, placing herself on eye level with the larger Pokemon. While part of her was curious as to what had been lost, that was really a minor detail considering that there was really nothing out here save for a few caves and canyonside trails. Only reason most trainers came out here was looking for battles, but in such cases they tended to frequent the populated paths above. Behind Elinda the fight would seemingly continue, seemingly one sided as Surskit continuously pounded Mudkip with Bubble after Bubble, each time the similarly sized Water type thrown back a handful of feet by the impacts. The first few seemed to be effectively harmless as Mudkip simply shook them off and continued to run back at the Bug type as if it were a game, but after the fourth and fifth hits the amphibian seemed to have started to take some damage, assuming a few scraps here and there from impacts with the river rocks beneath the water's surface. With the sixth attack from Surskit, though, the tables would suddenly turn as the Bubbles made contact with Mudkip only to be suddenly blown back in a sudden explosion of force from Bide, strong enough to not only shield Mudkip but slam into Surskit, throwing the Pokemon clear across the river and onto the opposite shore where it did not get up. Still seemingly as oblivious as he had been at the start, Mudkip simply shook the excess water and bubbles off from himself again as he began casually splashing his way back towards Elinda.

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] The Mightyena wasn't the most obnoxious thing on his party, and so he shouldn't have doubted the poor thing when it tried to get his attention. He knew he'd go in the water if he had not stopped him preemptively though, that part he didn't regret. The voice had startled Kyle despite his Mightyena's previous warning, forcing him to stop whatever he was doing to turn to whoever had interrupted him. The stranger was way older than him he supposed, but given his general stature and build, everyone else would most certainly look that way compared to him. Travelling beside her was a Mudkip that he assumed was hers. He had not seen any wild variants within the vicinity, getting him to that conclusion. "Uh, yeah," he answered, meeting her eyes with his for a moment. "He gets disowned if I don't find it really quick."His attention strayed away from the stranger to his Dark-type, who seemed invested with the stranger even with him sitting still on the spot. "Don't let that thing near my stuff." His finger pointed to the Wurmple, who crept its way all the way near Poochy 2 in a stealthy fashion, who sat beside a pile of belongings that Kyle had left on the shore. Poochy 2 shifted his stares to the Bug-type. His immediate reaction was to snarl at it, before proceeding to raise his paw in an arc and bat the smaller Pokemon out of the way. He was ready to chase after it, evident as he rose from his spot and tried to chase after the Wurmple who flew in a trajectory, if not for Kyle snapping at it. "Oi, show some restraint." The Mightyena would comply without question, sitting back to where he was positioned before turning his attention back to Elinda, cocking his head to a side as he did. "Pokeballs are airtight and waterproof, right?" he'd ask. He had gone back to searching the bottom of the river, his hand shuffling aimlessly hoping that the current of the water swept items from upstream towards his direction. He had broken eye contact, and simply went back to looking for the object that he lost. -Defeated Wurmple- MADE BY NOVA

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] "And there it is."Finally touching the metallic surface amid the dirt and debris along the riverbed made it seem like a victory for Kyle. His words did not express much, though it was clear that he felt some sort of achievement from finally finding the Pokeball. Those devices probably don't get waterlogged, he hoped. He couldn't even think of what he was going to do if he suddenly found his Pokemon inside drowning from water. "You'll get your punishment later," he told his Mightyena as he turned around, its ears dropping and its tail laying low on the ground. Yeah, he better feel guilty for this. A Pinsir emerged from the vegetation, coming in with much gusto and some other irrelevant things to be considered. The Pokemon wasn't angry, though it definitely seemed like it longed for a fight. His Mightyena has the type disadvantage over it, but considering it did not seem like particularly strong, Kyle would allow his Pokemon to dispatch the wild Pokemon before it got too aggressive on them. This was self defense, he supposed. "Stop being sad. We got company."Reluctantly, his Mightyena turned around, facing the Pinsir without much enthusiasm on his part. Probably Kyle's fault for threatening it moments earlier, but then again, it was really Poochy 2's fault for being too playful or something. "Go for Bite." The instruction was simple, though against wild Pokemon, he supposed that was enough to get things done. They weren't as creative as trainers though, so there was less to think about. The Pinsir was the one who rushed in first, using the pincers it has on its head as the spearhead. It tried to choke the Dark-type with a Vice Grip, but Poochy 2 was strong enough to shrug it off and retaliate with a chomp of his own. Biting back down on its head, the Mightyena tried to shake off the Pinsir until it loosened its grip and threw the Bug-type on the river, the current washing it away from them. -Defeated Pinsir- MADE BY NOVA

[googlefont=Roboto Condensed] Without a moment passing, a Kricketune, much stronger to the earlier two he battled before, quickly zoomed in on them, hovering lightly above the ground with its wings while outstretching its sharp scythes for an arm to the duo. He wasn't sure how they compared against a Scyther's, but he knew he still had to avoid them somehow. Letting himself slip on the river and falling on his bum amid the current, he dropped enough height for the Kricketune to pass by without it reaching him. All Poochy 2 had to do was duck though. "I think we're-"He cut his sentence short as he noticed the Kricketune go in for another round, taking a u-turn as it headed back to their direction. "We can't just let it go, I guess." Even if he did try to escape it, it wouldn't be improbable for it to locate them once again and do another sneak attack. It was better to dispatch it now without the element of surprise on the Bug-type's end. They already had type-disadvantages to deal with. Shenanigans from wild Pokemon was the last thing he wanted. "We're not dealing with it directly. Start of with Yawn."Parting his maw, the Mightyena managed to get a direct angle for the Yawn to hit the Bug-type. It wasn't that much difficult considering it was going in a straight line, somewhat intent on getting them for some reason. Delighted by the command, Poochy 2 proceeded to pounce on the Bug-type. Fangs punctured the right areas to make sure the Kricketune would feel the pain when it got back up. "I got what I came here for," he said, waving the shrunken Pokeball on his hands as he stood back up, "so I guess I'll go back now. Have fun on your nature walk or something."
