Annoyance crept through Evelyn's mind and her features. No sooner had she returned to the Pokémon center after her afternoon excursion into the fields of Route 39, she been subjected to the same old song and dance she'd always lived with. Whispers of varying thoughts and nature from anyone who took notice of her reached her ears among the plethora of more normal background noise. Was she okay? Did she need help? Why did she look so sinister and cold? Now, she could add “Did she steal those pokemon?” and “Should we call the police?” to the list. It wasn't anything new to her, but aggravation and less than kind thoughts still crossed her mind.
So, rather than stay cooped up in the center, she had taken her leave as soon as she had bathed and her Chimchar and newly caught Munchlax had been healed up and fed. It was dinner time and, for the first time in many years, she was going to eat openly at a restaurant and enjoy a fresh supper; food that she had bought with her own money, not stolen. Even the money had been earned legally. Looking through a menu, choosing what sounded appetizing and digging in when it arrived all sounded incredibly mundane, but it was an alien and exciting thought to her.
Anticipation hastened her steps and it wasn't long before the woman found herself sitting at an outdoor table of a seaside restaurant. The smell of various meats, spices and alcoholic beverages filled the air of the medium sized establishment. Large television screens lined both the indoor bar and the outer wall, some broadcasting televised battles or contests while others showed sporting events. Her eyes, however, were locked onto the menu in her hands. For once, she didn't care that a few of the other nosy patrons were casting cautious glances towards her. Her focus was entirely on what to order. Some handful of minutes passed until she managed to decide and flag down her table's waiter.
”I'll have the Cajun Clauncher Pasta and the Loaded Nachos as an appetizer.” she told the man. The two had a short back and forth about the details of the order and whether or not she wanted anything else before he took the menu and walked away to give her order to the kitchen. Her eyes now free to wander, her gaze left her table and wandered to the beach and ocean to her left. The sun was dipping below the horizon, bathing the waters and sands in deep hues of orange and red. The horizon burned with similar colors, but mixes of violets and blues were beginning to creep onto the canvas as night crept closer. What few people remained on the beach mostly sat on their towels, talking and enjoying the view.
Now that she wasn't battling wild Pokémon or focused on avoid a trouble, the surreal nature of her new life began to set in. Her eyes lingered on the border of the ocean and land as her mind processed her situation. It had only been a few days ago that she had been a homeless street rat in the far flung Kalos region. Every day had been one struggle or another to survive. Now she suddenly had a trainer's license, an income and a whole new life with a slew of options before her. It had all happened so quickly that it felt like a dream; a regrettable dream that she would eventually wake up from. If it was, she thought, all she could hope for was to never wake up.
