Venturing to Johto from the Sinnoh Region, Sylvester Northcutt (or just Sly for short) was born in the quiet northern city of Snowpoint. He’s a natural born scientist and researcher due to his innate curiosity and inquisitive nature. He utilizes logic and reason over emotions in twelve out of ten scenarios, instead of using instinct and emotion. Because of this, Sly sought to be just like his city’s resident Professor; Professor Larch, instead of aspiring for the more grand life of a Pokemon Trainer. He found interest in studying and experimenting, be it on Pokémon habitats, their evolution, their behaviors, the mechanics behind Pokéballs and certain items held by Pokémon, or whatever else a Professor studies. He’s versed in a variety of subjects, however he is most knowledgeable in the area of study primarily investigated by Professor Larch. That is space and time, and how those entities interact with both humans and Pokémon.[break][break]
It makes sense, right? Seeing as Sinnoh’s resident Legendaries are based on Space, Time and Reality. While they’ve yet to ever make a breakthrough on any of the research, it remains the soul focus of their studies in Sinnoh. Due to his emphasis on becoming a Pokémon Professor, Sly isn’t very good at battling. Sure, he can command his Pokémon to perform a move or dodge, the simple stuff. But he he can’t exactly usher them out coherently in the heat of battle or with any real conviction. He doesn’t run off of adrenaline or fall into some sort of “fight mode” when engaging in battle, which more often than not helps him and his partner end up in dangerous situations. Somewhere deep down, hidden beneath all of that knowledge and inner timidness, Sly does want to learn how to battle properly, he just doesn’t have the time or confidence in himself to learn.[break][break]
Such insecurities definitely don’t aid his lovable exploration side, since exploring the world of Pokémon means that sooner or later, you’re gonna’ run into something or someone that wants to cleave your head off of your shoulders just for being in their vicinity.[break][break]
Sly is good at handling Pokémon and interacting with them out of battle, though. In fact, he was the sole individual at Professor Larch’s lab that took care of the establishment’s Pokémon, sometimes even Professor Larch’s own. While he is nowhere near the level of a dedicated Pokémon Breeder, Sly knows his way around taking care of the creatures, his experience ranging from tiny little Bidoof and Starly to monstrous Pokes like Torterra and Garchomp. He is especially good at handling his partner, Wattson. Wattson is a young Elekid raised by Sly and Professor Larch from when he was just an egg, hatching under their care and immediately being entrusted to Sly.[break][break]
Sly’s mission currently is to locate Professor Larch who, after obtaining a few leads on information relating to their space-time research, traveled to Johto and subsequently disappeared. He, along with Wattson, are currently traveling through Johto on the hunt for their mentor, meanwhile exploring and learning all they can about the region and its inhabitants![break][break]
FRIENDSHIPS
Buddies! This is going to be fairly short, like the others, for now. Seeing as Sly is new to the Johto region by just a few weeks… He doesn’t really have any friends. He has tons of friends back in Sinnoh, namely Snowpoint City, however he’s pretty much alone in Johto. The only friend he truly has at the moment is Wattson, his Elekid. The two get along like two peas in a pod, and will fiercely protect each other from whatever they have to, despite neither being any good at battling.[break][break]
Sly is a pretty straightforward guy. He’ll talk to just about anyone, though he can be kinda’ awkward in conversation due to his use of big words which he does out of habit. He loves explaining processes and spreading knowledge, so he’ll talk anyone’s ear off if they’re interested in learning more about Pokémon. He isn’t exactly a walking encyclopedia for everything Pokémon, but he knows a little bit about everything and is more than willing to gift the fruits of his education to others.[break][break]
He’ll probably turn down any invitations to train or battle, not out of disinterest, but out of his own self-doubt when it comes to his abilities as a Trainer. He feels like there are people out there in the world that fit the bill just fine and that he doesn’t have what it takes to properly train and fight, so he leaves it to them. If you’re looking for either of those, you’re gonna have to bribe him and Wattson with either knowledge or.. Food. [break][break]
HATESHIPS
Like the rest, this is gonna be kinda’ short. He’s new to Johto, so he hasn’t really met anyone TO hate. Not yet, anyways. He is disgusted by what most people are in the world of Pokémon: The abuse of Pokémon. He doesn’t take kindly to it and will gingerly punch you in the sternum if he sees any of it. Not that his punch-flick will do much of anything to anyone, but he’ll do it. He also seems to have a distrust for people that own Bug-types. Whether that’s because he is scared of them or something else entirely, no one knows… but Sly.[break][break]
Arrogant know-it-alls (Albeit he can be one himself sometimes), hypocrites, stupid people, Pokémon abusers, he hates ‘em all, but no one in particular yet.[break][break]
LOVESHIPS
And finally, romantics. I’m open for whatever with Sly! It would be an interesting dynamic to work out since Sly focuses solely on logic and reasoning (read above) over his own emotions, which could cause some juicy conflict. This is where Sly is most awkward, because he spent the majority of his life cooped up in a laboratory studying and experimenting rather then developing a man’s “game”, if you will. He’s not opposed to a relationship, but he won’t go out of his way to talk to someone first. I guess the first telltale sign will be him staring in your direction, sweating profusely with his cheeks puffed out because he thinks that gets rid of the flush.[break][break]
