Gone Fishin'!
Souji stood on the warm sandy beach that bordered Yoshino City, a battered fishing rod in his hands. It was a gift from his father, and now that he had a grasp on how Pokemon battles worked on land, he was keen to see how water-based battles were fought. He had been warned that there was a sharp drop-off not far from shore, and to be careful if he decided to go swimming, but since he was fishing it didn't matter much.
Baiting the hook with fish bait he had bought, he let the line play out before drawing his arm back and whipping it forward. The hook sailed through the air, splashing down into the water a moment later. He reeled the line in a little, watching the bobber move up and down in the gentle swell. He hoped he would get a bite soon, but he didn't mind waiting if it took time for a Pokemon to show up.

shinx. vs. krabby
Luckily for him, Souji didn't have to wait very long before the bobber was suddenly jerked underwater. Gripping the rod tightly, he began the slow process of reeling the Pokemon in, the rod bending slightly under the strain. As the hooked Pokemon got closer to shore, he backed up to give his Pokemon room to fight when the time came. The creature that emerged from the sea had legs, so it took a bit of tugging to bring it ashore, and when he did, he saw that he had hooked a Krabby. It wasn't something he particularly wanted, so he called out Shinx while his opponent was spitting out the fishhook.
"Spark!" he said, wanting to get the battle over with quickly. Shinx ran at the Krabby, fur crackling, and the impact of the attack nearly sent it back into the sea. But the water type scuttled forward again, sending a stream of bubbles at Souji's Pokemon. "Use Spark again," the boy urged, knowing that Shinx had the advantage over his opponent. The feline charged the Krabby once again, and this time the crab was sent flying into the sea.
When it didn't return, Souji went over to collect the fishhook, bending to pat Shinx on the way by. "Good job, you fought well," he said, getting a happy meow from the cat Pokemon. Baiting the hook, he cast off once more and settled in to wait, Shinx amusing himself by playing in the sand nearby.

shinx vs, shellder
This time, it took a while before Souji got a bite. Tired of standing up, he settled on the warm sand, leaning back on one hand while the other held the fishing rod. The sun climbed higher in the sky, and the boy wished he had brought a hat, for the reflection of light off the waves was starting to make his eyes hurt. But all those thoughts disappeared when a strong pull nearly jerked the rod from his hand. Gripping it tightly, he spun the reel rapidly, a Shellder bursting out of the water a moment later. Apparently not pleased with being hooked, the Pokemon shot a burst of water at Souji, soaking him.
"Shiii! Shinx!" Outraged that his trainer had been unfairly attacked, Shinx charged at the Shellder. Electricity surrounding the feline, and he slammed into the water type with Spark. The shellfish tumbled into the shallow water, quickly righting itself using its tongue. Glaring at the Shinx, it shot a Water Gun at the Pokemon, the cat hunching his shoulders and hissing as he was drenched in cold water.
"Don't worry about it, you'll dry off soon. Thunder Fang!" Souji called from his seat on the beach. The day was warm enough that they would dry off quickly, and he could already feel his clothes drying out. Shinx nodded at his words and ran at the Shellder, mouth open and electricity forming into a pair of large fang. The Shellder clamped its shell shut in response, but it wasn't enough; the attack coursed through its body and knocked it out.
Deciding to leave the fainted Pokemon where it was, Souji baited his line and cast off once more. Still upset at getting wet, Shinx sat down beside him and began to lick his fur.

shinx vs. remoraid
Souji's next catch wouldn't be quite as aggressive. A few tentative tugs came on the line, making the bobber vanish beneath the waves, then a stronger tug indicated the Pokemon was hooked. The boy sat up straighter, eagerly reeling in the line until a Remoraid popped up, staring at him wide eyes. As he pulled it into the shallows, he smiled, deciding to catch it.
"Bite," he said, Shinx darting from his side to clamp his jaws onto the fish. The Remoraid struggled, but the feline held fast, tail lashing back and forth in excitement. It made sense, Souji reflected, since cats were fond of fish. He knew that Shinx was smart enough not to attempt to eat the wild Pokemon, though. "Spark!"
Electricity surged around the pair, severely shocking the water Pokemon. It was still strong enough to break free from Shinx's fangs, turning around swiftly to blast the Pokemon with Water Gun. The cat yelped as he was soaked for the second time in under an hour, then ran at the fish again, shocking the Pokemon with another Spark.
Seeing his chance, Souji threw a Pokeball and waited anxiously to see what would happen.
