It wasn't too much of a surprise to see that Tiny's counterattack was successful. It was a shame he didn't have longer limbs or he may have been able to intercept his opponent without taking damage himself. Regardless this served as a good experience for the Nidoran. Not only did he gain some battle experience, this hopefully served as a reminder of the practical value of listening to his trainer. As the dust cloud cleared and the nidoran blinked the sand from his eyes he would look back to his trainer, who would reply with a simple nod before looking back to Alceides. "It's good to capitalize on an opportunity, but when using such a predictable strategy it's better to wait and see how your opponent reacts to the situation before deciding how to follow up." His tone softened slightly as he addressed the young trainer, though his serious expression remained firm. "But your pokemon fought well. It's good that you were able to push her to the limit." Fingers tucked themselves behind his suspenders as he watched his opponent, brows raising as he reached for another pokeball. It was pretty obvious from how quickly he went for his next pokemon that despite offering to end the battle he was interested in continuing. "Let's finish this. It wouldn't be fair to either of us if I simply walked away after a single victory." Yet he didn't move for his pokeballs, his gaze turning to the injured Tiny who was still on the battlefield. The nidoran's breathing had gotten a bit heavy, but he didn't seem like he was ready to bow out just yet. It was always good to see that sort of determination from his team, even if it did come largely from a love of violence. "Keep your guard up Tiny. You're not done yet." The large eared pokemon let out a snort, a faint glow still emanating from his body as he took a few steps forward. How could he even think about backing down from a fight with all this energy coursing through his body? If there was another opponent he would gladly face them. lvl 12 Nidoran Male (Poison Point)Poison Jab | Toxic Spikes | Double Kick | Horn Attack | Focus EnergyTiny defeated Momo! [attr="class","sintop"] [attr="class","sinmain"] [attr="class","sinlyric"]undecided [attr="class","sinlyric2"]but optimistic [attr="class","sin"] [attr="class","sinbody"]Alceides was sure that Fred was going to deliver some stern, and yet useful, words for him after the fainting of his Aipom. However, much to his shock, he was actually incredibly causual about it. He praised him, corrected him, and advised him all within a single breath. Having such an incredible teacher around was great! He was even adapting to the boy, softening where he would've been sterner, or at least Alceides told himself that.
"Thank you, though, honestly...we've never really lost until now, so that really drove it home. I always go into battle hoping to win, and until now that's been enough..." he accepted the praise, but then internalized his comments as his thoughts poured outward.
It's not that he was unhappy that they lost, he already had the sense since Frederick had the aura of a superior trainer, it was more that they couldn't find a better rhythm despite how much they'd been battling together. Regardless, he eyed his own Nidoran and decided that they might as well continue battling.
The boy only had Slothy yet while, from what he could gather, he had reserves as well just the amount was what confused him. It wasn't easy to dictate the differences between an empty Poke Ball and a full one. The only ones who could do it easily were probably professors and Nurse Joy.
"Alright, you seemed like you wanted to join in...so all eyes are on you, Slothy!" he called out, as he tossed the ball and released his Slowpoke. Though he enjoyed the battle, it still seemed he had that infuriating attitude around him. He was so fired up watching, yet when he was forced to actually do the work he lost motivation.
Sighing, he gestured to his opponents, "You two can make the first move, this time, this guy won't be doing anything for a bit..." he sighed and told Frederick, wistfully.

Ah, the classic lesson of failure. If this was the first time Alceides lost a battle he was either much newer to this than Frederick first thought or wasn't properly pushing his pokemon to the limits. From what he could see the young man was taking a much softer approach to training his pokemon, which seemed to be working so far. But when truly pushed to the limit, when in a life or death situation, would his team have the strength to keep pushing forward? Fred wasn't convinced they could. Maybe this mentality would work better for something other than a ranger, which meant it could be the best thing for the young ranger to pursue a different path. What a shame. "It's good to plan for victory, but never expect it. No matter what, failure is always possible."Normally he wouldn't share so much advice, but it seemed like Alceides was in serious need of direction. There was no telling where the boy would end up without proper guidance and direction. Or even worse, if someone filled his head with nonsense that would lead him down the wrong path. Both Tiny and Frederick watched as the slowpoke came out from it's ball, looking surprisingly relaxed despite the way it was moving inside of it's ball. Curious. Frederick's brows rose as he looked at Alceides, locking eyes with the trainer as he spoke. "Poison jab." Tiny immediately charged forward, lowering his head as he aimed to ram into Slothy. Meanwhile the trainer would shake his head, maintaining his stern expression. "You don't choose who goes first. The first move is decided by who is the fastest pokemon and trainer. There are no formalities in battle." Tiny let out a low growl as he moved to deliver a poison jab to the sluggish pokemon, the smaller needles surrounding the horn bristling as the moment of impact drew near. It was clear from the ferocity of his movements that Tiny was just itching to release all this pent up energy on something. lvl 12 Nidoran Male (Poison Point)Poison Jab | Toxic Spikes | Double Kick | Horn Attack | Focus EnergyTiny used Poison Jab!If Tiny makes contact with Slothy, they may become poisoned! 340 WORDS can't stop giving advice THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

[attr="class","sintop"] [attr="class","sinmain"] [attr="class","sinlyric"]undecided [attr="class","sinlyric2"]but optimistic [attr="class","sin"] [attr="class","sinbody"]Offering the boy advice once more, Alceides felt himself well with pride. He was making enough of an impression on Freddie to have earned praise without a negative, consecutively, and his Aipom had fainted anyway. He was feeling the rush of a battle, even if his Slowpoke wasn't. He was well aware of how a battle worked, so he simply beamed at the man as his Nidoran charged forth. What he didn't know was that his Slowpoke wouldn't put up a decent fight until it had been injured beforehand.
Charging forward with his horn aimed, glowing with a sickening purple hue much darker than the Nidoran itself, it was clear that the attack would also carry a poison effect. He couldn't afford to have another Pokemon affected by poison, but his Slowpoke wasn't nimble enough to dodge. He wouldn't be interested in an attack either, so he decided that the best course of action would be to rely on defense.
"Slothy, let's use Curse!" the boy ordered and his Slowpoke yawned but began concentrating his energy and glowing red as his attack and defense were raised meanwhile his speed was lowered.
Because Slothy was a slow pokemon, to begin with, speed was never an issue for Alceides. The Nidoran connected with his attack and drove his horn into the Slowpoke causing him to roar in pain. Thankfully, his Slothy managed to avoid being poisoned by the horn. Regardless, the damage had been dealt and his Slothy was now steaming and stomping his foot into the ground as he prepared for another round of clashes with the pokemon.
"My Slothy doesn't battle unless he's forced to, he's just incredibly lazy. So you taking the first move was really beneficial to me. Guess I can teach ya stuff too!" he said, grinning at Fred.
He didn't mean it in an arrogant way, in fact, he meant it in an honest returning-the-favor manner. He was really enjoying the day, and even if he ended up losing terribly, he'd continue to have a good time. A first loss was dissatisfying but for an optimist like him, it was just a bump in the road. Every bump made him stronger, and eventually, the bumps would evolve into hills and mountains. Life was a series of tribulations, or so he earnestly believed as if life was some fairy tale, but would always end well. Part of him was becoming a bit more aware of the world around him, Frederick's influence, but it was still too minuscule to become noticeable.
Used Curse Remember heads or tails? t'was heads for no poison uh I think that's it soz for the lateness

Frederick's brows rose as Alceides explained his plan, seeming to be largely indifferent toward his words. Unfortunately despite the joyful tone of his words the ranger simply didn't seem impressed. In fact there was a hint of disappointment in his eyes as his gaze fell to the injured slowpoke. So, the pokemon refused to take part in battle unless it is first injured? Frederick's hands slid into his pockets as he shook his head, the corners of his lips drooping ever so slightly. "Again." Now that the gap was closed he was able to get in another strike relatively quickly. He simply took a step back before ramming his head forward again. The small pokemon leaned in to the blow as he stepped forward, putting as much force into the impact as he could. Meanwhile the trainer's yellow eyes would look back up to meet Alceides and shake his head. "You need to train your pokemon better." A hand rose from his pockets to point at Slothy as he continued. "Your aipom's spirit allows it to draw strength from your encouragement. But an indifferent pokemon like this will require far more work."He couldn't imagine keeping a pokemon around that refused to follow orders upon entering battle. It didn't matter if it was in it's nature to be slow or lazy, any pokemon could learn to properly fight. And if that didn't work then clearly it was more fit to live it's life in nature than be forced to take part in battles it had no interest. It may not thrive if it is truly so lazy, but that was the way nature worked. Either become strong yourself or be consumed by those above you. "This laziness is not cute or charming, it's crippling. I suggest you don't even bother summoning him while fighting another trainer until you further his training."lvl 12 Nidoran Male (Poison Point)Poison Jab | Toxic Spikes | Double Kick | Horn Attack | Focus EnergyTiny used Poison Jab!If Tiny makes contact with Slothy, they may become poisoned! 311 WORDS can't stop giving advice THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

He didn't like his last choice of words and voiced it explicitly. He ordered his Nidoran into action once more, apparently going to use his Pokemon to teach him a lesson. The horn jabbed into the Slowpoke once more, and he roared in pain, this time an angry growl his gaze changing upon the second hit. Even though he had been introduced freshly into the battle, he had been hit twice by a powerful technique and wouldn't hold up for much longer. Regardless, they had to put up a counter-attack because Alceides had something he had to teach the ranger. "Momo, is an excitable Aipom who hates to stand still. She loves mischief, and she loves testing herself against others in any environment. She derives her strength from the rush we feel when we compete against others, that's our bond." he explained, before pointing toward his current battling partner. "However, Slothy is someone who hates to do any work. If he could, he'd spend every day sleeping. He was passive even when we first encountered him, but not only did he resist with a battle, he actually broke away from my initial Poke Ball throw. Ever since then, I've never demanded anything extra of him save calling him into a battle. I've never asked him to try harder, or disparaged his personality," he explained, before exhaling a long sigh and taking a deep breath. He wasn't in the habit of talking excessively, but the man had pushed a certain button on the boy. Flourishing his arms in a bow toward his Slowpoke, he finished up by explaining just what the point was. "You insulted us just now when you called his personality crippling. Regardless of the exact way you put it, we felt the meaning. My Slothy derives his strength from the absolute faith I have in him despite the fact that he's incredibly lazy. He might slow us down, literally, during travels or eat all the food but my faith doesn't waver in his abilities and he knows that. You call him indifferent, I call him unfocused." Despite the fact that he spoke with a smile and appeared generally unfazed, there was no doubt that the fire was seeping through. It wasn't a wrath, so infuriating it threated to explode it was a calm fury that welled within. He accepted all of his advice thus far, but there was a line to consider crossing when you spoke of another's pokemon. He was going to show them that, even if his Slothy was in bad shape. "Slothy, use Tackle!" he ordered as the Slowpoke slowly beginning a gallop toward the Nidoran in order to ram him with his curse increased charge.

The ranger's expression was unmoving as Alceides gave his speech, yellow eyes locking with the younger man's as he gave his explanation. And to be perfectly honest...it wasn't very impressive. At least not to Frederick. Countless times had he revealed a hard truth to someone only for them to feel that a wordy response would somehow make their point more clear. All that became clear was that the two of them had very different outlooks on what made a good teammate. "What you are describing is not a pokemon suited for battle. It's a pet. I understand loving and appreciating a lazy creature you take care of, but forcing him to battle like this is foolish. If you intend on taking any sort of competitive path with this mentality I'm afraid you're doomed to failure." The sad truth was that in a world where people were willing to do whatever it took to come out on top, being anything short of that meant falling into mediocrity. It was a shame because the boy had a good heart, especially with how adamantly he defended a pokemon that didn't seem to care about his interests at all. But such naivety could only lead him to failure. Frederick watched as the slowpoke charged forward with an empowered tackle, the slow but powerful impact sending tiny sliding back a ways. Yet even with the strengthened attack, Tiny's body was much more used to punishment. There was a clear difference in the power of these two pokemon, and the balance was tipped in the poisonous rodent's favor. "Horn attack." Tiny shook his head rapidly, ears flopping about as he refocused himself and charged toward Slothy. He lowered his head as he drew near, aiming to deliver a horn attack to the sluggish creature. lvl 12 Nidoran Male (Poison Point)Poison Jab | Toxic Spikes | Double Kick | Horn Attack | Focus EnergyTiny was hit by Slothy's Tackle!Tiny used horn attack! [attr="class","sintop"] [attr="class","sinmain"] [attr="class","sinlyric"]undecided [attr="class","sinlyric2"]but optimistic [attr="class","sin"] [attr="class","sinbody"]The two males refused to back down in their individual opinions, one based off of ideals and the other based off of truth. It was interesting to say the least, but Alceides was finding himself at a frustrating crossroad. He liked Frederick, a lot, but he wasn't agreeing with his outlook on things in the least. He considered the Slowpoke lazy, unfit for battling, unwanting to even. It might be true, the last part at least, but if his Slowpoke truly didn't want to battle then the boy was sure that he would have shown him some sort of sign by now. The youth honestly cared for his partners and believed that they felt the same, sharing opinions whenever they wanted. If Slothy was against battling, then he wouldn't even enter battle. He would refuse any order given and do what he wanted.
"No," was the sole word he said, as his Slothy charged into the Nidoran to prove his point. He didn't want to sour their meeting, but the boy wasn't the type to hide his thoughts and emotions. He was an open book, made worse by the fact that he often voiced things himself.
He wanted Fred to understand the strength of their bond and what it could become, but at this very moment, he couldn't. But that wouldn't always be the case, right? Having slumped in negativity for a moment, his back straightened up quickly as the Nidoran closed in on his partner. He wanted nothing more than to return his Slothy to his Poke Ball before the attack connected, but this had to be a hard lesson for the both of them.
The rest of what Frederick was saying was lost on his deaf ears, however, he did agree that they weren't strong enough yet. The keyword in that statement was "yet", and that one word fueled immense determination. The mellow rage within him was still flowing, as the Nidoran drove his horn into the Slowpoke a final time. Even if Slothy was able to hang on, the poison that was ailing him swept him off his feet almost immediately. A ball was immediately thrown, retrieving the Pokemon with urgency. The most important thing, right now, was that his Pokemon got the proper care they deserved. But there was something that needed to be said before he could make his leave.
"Sir Fred, I like you, a lot. You've given me some useful advice. You feel like what a brother should be to me and, for that reason, we're going to sharpen our fangs until we reach you and show you the power of our bond. You're my rival now, no matter what path I decide on. And Slothy and I will make you take back calling him a pet."
Despite the serious nature of what he was saying, he still gave the man a friendly smile and wave before he departed. He would help Fred if he called or if he saw him in trouble, but now he had a reason to get strong.

It wasn't too much of a surprise that the young man was resisting this bit of advice. So far he had been able to say things in a way that was palatable to a softhearted one such as Alceides. But this was a lesson that was a hard truth that he simply couldn't water down. A lazy pokemon required a firm hand and could not be coddled to simply because 'that's the way they are'. But it was clear that the boy had become attached to the slowpoke to the point where the messaged didn't quite sink in. Whether he misunderstood or simply disagreed it was hard to say, but either way there was little to be done at this point. It was clear from the moment of impact that Slothy was down for the count, making Tiny the victor of the battle. "Good work Tiny. Heel." With a victorious snort and twitch of the nose Tiny would make his way to his trainer's left side, where he would stand filled with pride. Though he was covered in injured and breathing heavily, he finally seemed to have calmed down from his initial irritable state. Likewise Frederick seemed to immediately relax, regaining his smile and friendly demeanor. Even his posture seemed to shift, his thumbs slipping back behind his suspenders once more as he approached Al. He listened carefully to his words, responding with a soft laugh as he extended a hand out toward him. "I look forward to that day, my friend. I do not agree with you, but it would be a pleasant surprise to be proven wrong." All of the harshness had left his voice, returning to it's previous state as if nothing had happened. Yellow eyes locked on to Alceides, narrowing slightly as a hint of amusement appeared in his smile. "If there is anything I can do to help in your journey, I welcome you with open arms."lvl 14 Nidoran Male (Poison Point)Poison Jab | Toxic Spikes | Double Kick | Horn Attack | Focus EnergyTiny defeated Slothy! Alceides had meant to strike the image of a cool person with his exit, but Fred had extended his hand and the boy wasn't so petty to ignore such an obvious act of friendship and, to some extent, mutual respect. Returning Slothy to his ball, to begin his recovery if by even a bit, he jogged over to the man before grinning his wide toothy grin and grabbing his hand. Mentioning that it would be nice to be surprised, the boy couldn't help but release a chuckle.
"Well, I may not be much but I sure am full of surprises, at least," he replied, rubbing the back of his head.
It seemed, at least from what little he could actually observe, that Fred would not hold back against anyone in battle, whether it be via his attacks or with his speech and advice. Whenever there was a pause or no battle situation he would use a softer approach. Having such a strong hand guide him was both a relief and a fear, but above that, he was glad that they could end their battle in an amicable manner.
With his final comment, he announced that he would always be around to help if he needed it. Exchanging numbers to ensure future contact, Alceides was more than positive that at some point in the future he would end up in a sticky situation and either need advice to wade through it or help from him as he was, as far as he could tell, a rather dependable man.
"I'll hold ya to that, sensei. he teased, adding the newfound title for respect as he smiled at him before starting to head out once more.
"Oh and don't forget, if you ever need anything you can ask me, too!" he'd announce, having turned back to the Ranger and grinning, before remembering that he was going to head to the Pokemon Center to recover. Waving goodbye, the boy would venture forward to heal the wounds and absorb the knowledge that had come with them. He had gained experience, as did his Pokemon, and that was the most important factor even if they did lose.
