When Jenna turned her head, she hadn't been expecting to see a psyduck standing in the middle of the road.

She looked on in befuddlement, screwdriver in hand, as the water-type meandered down the path. It seemed unfazed by the distant barking of Jenever; oblivious, even. It was in its own little world, wandering in a daydream-like haze. Of all the odd things Jenna had expected to see today, a lone psyduck was not one of them. She knew that they were... space cadets; their minds so far away from the world they might as well be in space.

Seeing that her houndour was too interested in the wandering water-type, Jenna returned her back to her pokeball. There was a clear type advantage between the two of them. If the psyduck was interested in a fight, it'd be better to play it safe.

The yellow bird came to stop, glancing in her direction. While it didn't seem hostile, a moment of clarity seemed to return to the pokemon, snapping it back into reality; if it had broken from its stupor, then it was interested in something.

Jenna swapped pokeballs, returning Jenever back to her belt. Wild pokemon could be aggressive at any given moment. Might as well initiate. “Sorry Lapis. There's no water nearby,” and she chucked another pokeball; second from the left. From the deployed capsule, a massive shape of red light took form in the middle of the road, ahead of the psyduck; her Lapras. The giant sea creature looked uncomfortable to be beached on land, but she'd adapt.

And Jenna followed along the side of the road, wondering why she was bothering with a battle. Maybe she just needed a break from the repairs? Something like that.

The psyduck did not hesitate. The moment it sensed that a battle began, it unleashed a rapid burst of water from its gizzard; water gun. Jenna did not shout out a single command to her Lapras–not even a warning to move–because the moment the water made contact with the sea-fairing pokemon, it seemed to seep into her glistening skin.

Water Absorb was pretty convenient.

“Use sing. Before it tries a psychic attack.” Lapis heeded the command, making eye-contact with her trainer as she flanked the outside of the wild encounter. Jenna's mind was elsewhere. The battle was just something to watch as the cogs in her mind kept turning.

Drawing in a deep breath, the Lapras started with the gentlest of hums. A hum that reached the softest of pitches, carried into a sing-song lullaby that could have calmed even the harshest of moods. Jenna loved it. It called, gentle and sweet as if it were the song of a siren.

The psyduck seemed to be affected. It struggled to stay awake, but the call to sleep was too strong to ignore. It slumped down to the ground, falling asleep in the middle of the road.

That made the next part easy. “Blast 'em with water gun. Just enough to knock 'em off the road and get 'em back out into the wild.” Lapis, having all the time in the world to prepare her attack, unleashed a high-pressure blast of water that immediately pushed the sleeping Psyduck off the road and into a nearby bush. Had it even woken up from the blast? Jenna shrugged. Psyducks were so chubby its blubber probably absorbed all the impact.

“Good job. Let's just hope that song didn't attract any attention.” Her water-type gave a meek nod as if embarrassed by the praise.
