♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ It wasn't easy. Countless hours of practice and training were poured into this one night. And now, Mirai was standing there on the stage for the finals. The opponent before her however was a bit surprising. It wasn't the top scorer of the first round. It was the boy who was just a step below her in the rankings. It just goes to show that the scores didn't determine everything. Mirai could only find herself intrigued at how he managed to pull it off, and at the same time wary that the rug could be pulled from under her too. It was exciting. "I have nothing but respect for any rival that managed to make it this far despite the odds. Let's put on a good show!"
"Floatzel-kun, Mawile-kun, it's time for one last dance!"As they were resting from the earlier match, Mirai called upon her partners from their Pokeballs, simultaneously appearing on stage in a flash of light. There was a lot less anxiety and uncertainty this time around as they had grown accustomed to the stage and the crowd. Nothing less than approaching this battle with full on confidence was what the blue haired coordinator believed it took to win the top prize. Whatever happened, she would make sure her passion shined through. This feeling was something her Pokemon would share. Floatzel and Mawile had that fire in their eyes and were raring to go. Still it wasn't as though Mirai allowed the heat of her passion to make her lose her cool. Her opponent's performance would be something to keep a close eye on. Unlike her earlier battle with Haruka, the impressions she got from watching Alceides' show in the first round would tell her that both of his Pokemon were on almost equal ground in terms of the threat they posed and how tricky they would be to face. There was no obvious strategy or path to victory. This would be a battle where every turn could bring about something new and unexpected. It would be a dance that kept people guessing. Perhaps a fitting finale to tonight's festivities. Alceides

From the very start, Alceides had been indecisive and in the mindset that at some point he would lose and that would be okay, because the knowledge gained from a defeat would be just as a helpful as a win. He kept this idea through the first round, wavering at the resolve of his Pokemon. The second round, he pushed past that farce and finally realized that he wanted to win no matter what. This win would be for him, for his Pokemon, and for Annie all together. In this final stage, where he would be pitted against the blue-haired woman he remembered seeing at the Tower before its ruin. She had a dazzling appearance not only then, but now, as well. They never got to speak, but he could tell from the first round that she was made of sterner stuff. The two had struggled relentlessly to reach where they were now, the boy being reminded of everything that had contributed to this day.
The contest battle with Annie, his meeting with Fred, the first time he attempted a combination move in the wild against a Riolu, all the support from his best friend Ashley -- they were all harmonizing together. The naive boy who believed in anything and anyone was no longer, though no longer clouded with doubt and apprehension. To show everyone who had supported him, and his dream, that they weren't wrong he had to prevail just once more. The blood within him was hot, the excitement building internally.
As the two stood in their respective squares facing off one another, his opponent delivered some kind words before introducing her Pokemon. The Floatzel and Mawile from the first round, not only did they pull off amazing combinations but the two were also individually strong. This was surely going to be his greatest challenge to date, but he wouldn't back down not an inch.
"Thank you! I feel the same, so let's have a beautiful, fun battle that neither of us has to be ashamed of!" the boy agreed, beaming a smile toward the woman indicating that no matter who won they would still feel happy for the other - at least that's how he felt.
"Alright, all eyes are on you again, it's the final performance! Ophiuchus, Momo!" the boy introduced his own Pokemon who were resting, while they could, before leaping forth from their containers.
His Aipom, Momo, had been with him from the very start and the two were incredibly close. Though Seviper wasn't one of the first to be captured, she had a naturally easygoing and eager to please attitude making her a darling to work with. Together, the two had a synergy that he hoped would be unmatched. Surrounded by the roar of the crowd, the boy gripped his fists with determination.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Alceides seemed like a reasonably agreeable fellow. At the very least the greetings exchanged this time were much warmer and helped Mirai get into the mood. Speaking of mood, the honor of setting that up for this battle had fallen on her again. Seeing Aipom and Seviper make their way to the stage, she was reminded of how tricky this battle could be as she didn't have a good feel for her opponent's abilities. Were they fast? Were they hiding any particularly troublesome moves? In the end she decided that rather overthink it, the best approach was probably to just set the pace for her own show. They did concur to make this battle fun and beautiful after all. It was time for another one of their variations. "Let's get started! Floatzel-kun! Mawile-kun! Double Dragon!"A command that would have confused most people present for sure. There were no dragons on stage. At least not yet. Floatzel and Mawile however knew exactly what to do. Both began to execute their moves simultaneously. From the Sea Weasel Pokemon was a Whirlpool, sleeker and more controlled than the usual fanning water. The blue twister was thinner and snakelike, arcing upwards from the left part of the stage before diving down at where Seviper and Aipom were standing, approaching from their top right. On the opposite side, the Deceiver Pokemon unleashed his Fairy Wind in a similar manner. The pink snakelike twister of wind curved and arced from the right at a much lower angle than Floatzel's attack. It was practically parallel with the stage in fact as it closed in on the two targets from directly on their left. The scene was akin to two dragons soaring and then lunging at their prey. The display of Floatzel and Mawile's control was impressive. There was no specific target for the incoming attacks and they would attempt to hit both Aipom and Seviper at once. However should they attempt to dodge, the two attacks would simply focus on whoever was slower to react or stay still. Mirai smiled. By some odd coincidence, these were the exact same two moves she opened with in the earlier round. However the execution couldn't be more different. A testament to her partners' hard work at improving their manipulation ability. Alceides

[player]http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/3fzdsbph1d/FateZero_OST_-_The_Sword_of_Promised_Victory_FateZero_ver.mp3[/player] Standing on this grand of a stage, prepared to perform in an equally grand battle - there was very little more than the boy could find himself wishing for. At this very moment, all eyes on them, time seemed to stand still for just a moment. His breath caught, but it was no longer in fear of anything to come he was simply overwhelmed with his desire to prove his mettle against this woman who had done the same. Beginning in the mud and climbing through it, tirelessly and ceaselessly, he would have liked to say that he did so never looking back. But that looking back, the doubt in his ability was what had separated him from the overly confident and arrogant others who couldn't look in the mirror quite the way he had managed. It didn't matter what song they played in the background, the melody of battle brimming forth from his heart was enough to fill his ears with a deep pounding. Gazing at his Pokemon, he was shocked to see them grinning and swaying - he had unconsciously begun tapping his foot and they felt his sincere inner rhythm and tagged along. A confident smile spread across his lips, Alceides finally donning a confident robe for himself. Mirai was allowed to take the first move, just as Jaye had done the prior round. It only worked out better for him, he favored counter-attacks after all. There were two unexpected events that he was met with; one trivial and the other not quite as much. The first, was a very obvious delight as the boy chuckled and grinned with the lady naming her unique technique - just like he did! What glorious fate, to have such an ingenious opponent brought before him as a final test. The excitement in his blood had become too great, seeping into his bones as well. The next was the sheer amount of tenacity displayed by her two Pokemon - specifically the Floatzel. Forming air into a shape wasn't normally an issue, however, turning a large expanse of water into another shape was certainly splendid. He didn't want to win easily, he desired and craved obstacles that he could climb over. The tower left him dejected, but his friends and this contest had put him on the track toward his dream - toward becoming the Coordinator King. Two dragons began to soar through the sky, ripping through the air as they closed in from both sides. "Let's show them, Momo, Ophiuchus, that we're not going to be taking anything laying down! Use Ice Punch to freeze the water, and let's use a Flamethrower through that wind and aim for the Mawile!" he roared, as his Aipom gathered chilly energy around her tail before leaping forward and meeting the aquatic dragon head on as it would freeze over. Seviper would inhale deeply before releasing a stream of flames that would whip dangerously toward the Mawile, only made worse by the winds that were kicked up by the aero dragon. Aipom had only countered the move, waiting for a better moment to go on the offensive - while Seviper would take the fight right back to the intimidating fairy. At the very least, they would get to see the boy shine furiously even if that light would be extinguished. He would strive with all of his being to ensure that such a fate was impossible.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Mirai wondered if Alceides was reading her mind or if it was a coincidence that he chose to respond in this manner. With type advantage on its side, Flamethrower was an excellent counter to Fairy Wind. This was where Floatzel was supposed to come in to support but her Whirlpool got frozen. With the flames sweeping in from the side, she had to get Mawile out of there before he took matters into his own hands. "Take to the skies Mawile-kun! Magnet Rise! Floatzel-kun, follow-up high and use Razor Wind!"Mawile nodded, activating the move and flying out of the way of the Flamethrower. Meanwhile Floatzel hopped on the Deceiver Pokemon who gave her boost, flipping her even higher into the air. The keywords to Mirai's instructions were to follow-up high that her Pokemon understood as an attack from above. Once reaching the peak of her jump with the stage light directly behind her, Floatzel started to spin around, generating a powerful wind that began to rain down a storm of nearly invisible blade arcs on the stage where Aipom and Seviper were positioned. Should the two try to look-up, the stage light would make it difficult for them to pinpoint Floatzel's position. For the conclusion of this performance, the Sea Weasel Pokemon was typically capable of finding her own way back to the ground after unleashing her assault. But considering anything could happen in the battle, Mawile was on standby to catch her just in case she needed assistance. ***tl;dr - Mawile dodged Flamethrower by flying up with Magnet Rise. Floatzel hopped on and got a boost high up above the stage where it then unleashed a barrage of Razor Winds on Aipom and Seviper.Alceides

[player]http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/3fzdsbph1d/FateZero_OST_-_The_Sword_of_Promised_Victory_FateZero_ver.mp3[/player] Their attacks collided beautifully, with the Whirlpool being frozen and then shattering into a spread of icy crystals that cascaded around his Aipom. She was pretty pleased with herself, as well, grinning from ear-to-ear. Having such a skilled opponent was an amazing feeling, he was being tested and improving. Licking his lips in satisfaction, his eyes were glittering with both amazement and desire. The desire to win, the numerous ideas that fighting this woman had given him for the next time he participated in a contest. Thanks to the fierce Fairy Wind, the flames from the Seviper's Flamethrower would maneuver upward, rising along with the Mawile and chase forward like a beast that had found its prey. The flames would most likely envelop the Mawile and the Floatzel who had hitched along for the ride before they were able to rise up to the spotlight. "That was beautiful, Ophi! Now, Aipom let's use Swift!" he announced passionately, as his Aipom prepared energy within her tail before firing off a volley of star-shaped blasts toward the pair.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Persistent. Very persistent. Rather than give up after avoiding it the first time with Magnet Rise, Seviper insisted on pressing on with chasing Mawile with Flamethrower. It seemed they had no choice but to meet it head-on. "Whirlpool Rose, Floatzel-kun!"This was the unusual Whirlpool formation that they had executed in the first round. Manipulating the conjured water in the shape of a flower, Floatzel's Whirlpool surrounded the pair like a sort of barrier to dispel the incoming Flamethrower. The Sea Weasel Pokemon would maintain it for as long as Seviper did, the water-typing giving them the advantage regardless of the power behind the flames. Of course this wasn't the only thing they had to deal with. After the Flamethrower was dispelled, there was a follow-up of Swift from Aipom's side that had to be addressed. Carefully balancing Floatzel on his head, Mawile couldn't go for big movements at the moment and so they had to rely on minimal execution. "Charge Beam, Mawile-kun!"Floatzel wasn't the only one between the two who practiced their manipulation. Mawile's charge beam would sweep across the air, shooting down the the incoming stars before they could reach them, resulting in a sparkly fireworks-like display. Coincidentally this was another exchange reminiscent of Mirai's round one performance where Mawile's Charge Beam also collided with Floatzel's Swift. She didn't expect to be able to use her earlier performance as a reference for this battle but it was interesting turn of events. ***tl;dr - Floatzel while still being close to Mawile blocked the Flamethrower with Whirlpool, hopefully overpowering it with Water typing. After getting rid of the Flamethrower, Mawile would shoot down the follow-up Swift with Charge Beam.Alceides

[player]http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/3fzdsbph1d/FateZero_OST_-_The_Sword_of_Promised_Victory_FateZero_ver.mp3[/player] Flames licked hungrily at the wind, chasing after the duo before being doused by another whirlpool formation. This time, instead of shaping it into a dragon, the Floatzel manipulated the water and was able to use it as a barrier in the form of an exquisite rose. His eyes glittered with astonishment, the way she utilized her Pokemon's moves were unlike any he had seen before. He had become somewhat accustomed, even prepared, for combination battles - it was his main strength, in a sense. For her to be so creative, it was throwing a wrench into his countering and inspiring him all the same. To face such a worthy opponent, he couldn't ask for anything more than what he was getting today. This Contest had surpassed all of his expectations, even facing such harsh criticism after the first round. Alceides wasn't the type of person to become discouraged so easily, the only reason it even weighed anything within his mind was that of his lingering tower trauma. She didn't realize it, but she was helping the boy without realizing it. The leftover shards of ice that had been falling due to the initial whirlpool shattering were abruptly melted, ending the beautiful shower that twinkled beautifully in combination with the stars that were sent soaring through the sky. A burst of electricity sent forth from the Mawile moved to knock away the Swift that had been aimed at the duo. But even this could only make him smile, he didn't want to win an easy battle he needed to struggle like this, to persevere and overcome. It seemed as if they would keep up the aquatic flower, blocking them from conventional attacks. But, for the moment, they seemed to want to retain the semblance of aerial combat. It was fine, but holding a heavier Pokemon would surely inhibit her speed to a degree, so he sought to form a pincer on the ground with his two Pokemon. "Alright, you two move around them on either side. Let's use Combination: Shadow Rise!" the boy ordered, his tone tinged with very obvious excitement. Getting to release every stop, every move and combination he practiced was wonderful. The amount of experience he would walk away with was going to be momentous. The two Pokemon began their respective preparations with the Aipom forming a dark purple almost gooey orb of energy within her tail, as Seviper gathered and focused dark energies within her being. When she was ready, the serpent would expel the Dark Pulse as a wave that would meet the flung Shadow Ball and mesh. The two attack types were very similar in nature, so it was natural that together they would create a synergistic effect. The two techniques would combine and form a large raven that would climb and attack from underneath. He could only wait in anticipation for how they would react.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Mirai watched as their opponents finally significantly moved from their position for the first time since the battle began. With coordinated the pair seemed to be, she could only assume a combination of some sort was coming. Perhaps in their eyes, Floatzel being supported in the air by Mawile made the pair look like sitting ducks in the sky. In truth it wasn't the most convenient of formations, and even if their opponents had not done anything, Mirai was already planning to use the current setup to springboard to their next maneuver. It looked like the two Pokemon were going to use moves they had not previously used in the Contest prior to this moment. They were either going to attack from two sides or combine their attacks into one big move. Either way, it was almost certainly coming from below. Once the two would release their moves, Mirai would issue her next instructions. "Floatzel-kun, Mawile-kun, Heart Cross! Then chain to Circle Stance!"If they were both aiming for the Sea Weasel and Deceiver Pokemon, then the attacks were bound to meet at some point. The fact that the move turned out to be a combination in the end actually made things simpler for Mirai's team to execute their own response. Upon her command, Mawile tossed Floatzel up and she immediately coated herself with surging water and she rocketed high above the stage with Aqua Jet. On the opposite side, Mawile sped up into the air as well, his forehead shining with a metallic gleam while leaving a mild electrical trail from his still active Magnet Rise. The two would make their respective turns and then dive back down at full speed at the incoming black raven combination concocted by Aipom and Seviper. The two would collide at the dark mass simultaneously with Iron Head and Aqua Jet from Mawile and Floatzel respectively, crossing their trails to complete a heart-like shape high above the stage. After the display of aerial acrobatics, they would maintain their soaring through air by doing circular laps around the stage, awaiting their opponent's next move while keeping their eyes open for an opening for their next act. Floatzel in particular would need to execute her next move soon as the water jet wasn't meant to be used for extended flight. ***tl;dr - Mawile and Floatzel would fly up to form a heart-like shape with Aqua Jet and Magnet Rise, curving and then diving back down to intersect and complete the heart shape when they collide with the black raven to disperse it with Aqua Jet and Iron Head. [player]http://k003.kiwi6.com/hotlink/3fzdsbph1d/FateZero_OST_-_The_Sword_of_Promised_Victory_FateZero_ver.mp3[/player] The dark black raven that the boy had crafted was beautiful, made even more by the atmosphere and setting of the contest. However, it was nothing more than a precursor move - he needed to get his opponents to move but needed sufficient firepower to do so. In response, the pair began a respective charge before joining up and smashing into the bird - forming a heart in the air. The boy smiled in response if nothing else his opponent was already a master in the art of showmanship, something he would have to glean off of in his future experiences for sure. Though it definitely wasn't in the manner he was expecting, who could expect such a unique combination, after all, they had broken their formation and it was time for them to be targeted individually. In these battles, working as a team was a must but the two Pokemon in front of him seemed to be in sync a touch more than he could've hoped. Alceides wanted a fierce competition, but the way the two handled every single thing thrown at them almost flawlessly... He had decided that he needed to break them up, though it was going to be easier said than done. Utilizing Magnet Rise, Iron Head, and Aqua Jet, the two created circles in the sky. Mawile was sure to be able to keep up the maneuver for a while, but the Floatzel wouldn't be able to maintain flight with the particular move for very long. "Alright now, let's shake things up a bit. Ophi, Glare at the Floatzel! Momo, launch a widespread Swift to mess up their movement!" the boy commanded his Pokemon, having assessed the situation in his own manner. The Swift wasn't the important part, though he did feel a bit of dissatisfaction with using it again so soon, their main object was Floatzel. Grounding him would set the playing field at a much different pace, and it would be hard to avoid her gaze while dodging stars at the same time. He just needed to push and corner them, he could see the summit behind them where he could achieve victory. Trilling in acknowledgment, the serpent would fix her gaze on the Floatzel and waited for it to notice the gaze before being paralyzed by the fierce leer. Aipom, on the other hand, would gather energy before firing it in a conical shape upward to send their enemies into disarray.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Glare? For the first time in this bout, Mirai felt a rather sizable wrench was being thrown in her plans. This was yet another move she had not seen from the performance earlier and rightfully so. It wasn't exactly a move that had many uses in terms of showmanship. Her opponent's bag of tricks continued to be surprising and troublesome. Not to mention, as expected, Floatzel's Aqua Jet wasn't going to keep her airborne for long and the Sea Weasel Pokemon was already gliding back down the stage to make a landing. Glare wasn't going to make that simple though. A gaze was frankly difficult to avoid. Floatzel would find her muscles stiffened as she experienced the effects of paralysis. Meanwhile, Mawile would rush on over to his partner to try and protect her from the follow-up attack. Mirai though had other plans for the duo. She couldn't afford one of her partners being temporarily out of commission, even if it meant a little sacrifice on their part. "Don't mind the attack Mawile-kun! Jolt Floatzel-kun back into action with a gentle Charge Beam!"The Deceiver Pokemon's eyes widened with surprise at the unusual command. But he had promised to follow orders perfectly tonight so there was no room for argument. Approaching his stiffened partner, his hands began to glow with the crackling effects of Charge Beam and he then proceeded to tap the Sea Weasel Pokemon, giving her a bit of a shock. Floatzel shivered for a moment, hurt but not down. Her jolted muscles were relieved of the stiffness. "Floatzel-kun, handle the defense! Whirlpool!"The incoming stars from Swift were met by a wall of water as Floatzel just barely put up Whirlpool in time to block the attack. Both of Mirai's Pokemon were now grounded, perhaps as intended by Alceides. If you asked her earlier, she wouldn't have expected that their first notable damage for the battle would have been self-inflicted. But that just goes to show how tough their opponent was. ***tl;dr - Floatzel would return back down to the stage but get caught by Glare.
