After saving this Houndour Natalia hadn't been sure whether or not he would be thankful. In a way, she was ready to release him in this route if that's what he wanted. So, she took his Pokeball from her belt and tossed it out, watching as the white stream pooled together into the male Houndour's form. His body shook, bigger than her female Houndour's body. Maybe he was just a bit taller, maybe a few inches, but he was muscular. Perhaps it was because he lived longer in the wild and Natalia's female Houndour had been egg bred by Rangers and trained all her life. She was muscular, but a bit shorter than this male Houndour, and obviously less muscular.[break][break]
Honestly, he was beautiful, and she would be sad if he left. "Alright," she began with a sorrow in her tone. She bent down, expression blank, watching as the Houndour turned with his ears perked and his attention on her fully. "Here's the deal, I didn't want to leave you poisoned in the Ice Path, so I brought you with me. But you don't have to stay." She smiled at him then, to which he promptly snorted.[break][break]
The snort had caught Natalia off guard. Even more so than that was how he walked up to her and licked her face before sitting beside her feet, body perfectly broad and straight, like one of those stoned dragons at the entrance of a temple. Natalia let out a small laugh before moving a hand down to pet him. He wanted to stay![break][break]
"Well, I'm not going to argue." She admitted before taking in a deep breath. "Okay, so, let's see how well you take command, hm?"[break][break]
Honestly, he hadn't been around humans or their trained Pokemon but he supposed if he was going to pay back this life debt he'd have to learn. With a grunt, he got off his hind legs and started down the route with the woman, listening to her explain herself. Yes, he understood what she was getting at and yes, he'd be doing what she said. But he'd probably improvise on his battles a lot more than she was going to like. Why? Because he was used to going it alone.[break][break]

Natalia watched the new addition to her team stomping forward. She couldn't help how she smiled, enjoying the way he sauntered about like a child who had gotten scolded. Something about the way he grumped about reminded her of a few of her friends and immediately she went into a small fit of giggles.[break][break]
Houndour turned his head to look at the giggling girl before returning his attention to the route. He stopped walking, one three-toed paw was still in the air as he paused his movements. He'd heard something and to warn the new Trainer of his, he gave a low, gruff, gurgle of a noise in his throat.[break][break]
The warning rang true and Natalia stopped before looking up. She had a better viewpoint than her tiny new canine and she could see the Cacnea hiding in the grass. "Wow, they're sneaky in this route. It's a Cacnea..." Then suddenly it dawned on her that the Pokemon might not know what that was. "Um... okay, you're going to have to trust me. It's a wild pokemon lurking in the grass. Probably waiting for a good opportunity for a Needle Arm. You ready to listen?"

The giant blonde had a point and Houndour was sure to huff that he understood her. He wasn't unfamiliar to the language humans spoke, but he hadn't versed himself in it in a while. Luckily for him, he understood enough for Natalia to get her point across. Something was waiting to attack him. The tension in the air said as much.

"Howl to spook it out of hiding, get ready to dodge, then use Ember until he's out of here. Try not to light the whole forest on fire though, hm?" Natalia gave Houndour a bright smile.[break][break]
So bright, Houndour wondered if it'd be her that set the forest on fire. Deciding that wasn't important, he huffed and did as she suggested. He eyed a good place for cover before letting out a loud HOWL. Once that was finished, the Cacnea suddenly lunged out from the grass and threw an array of needles at the Houndour, no doubt a POISON STING. He'd been poisoned recently and didn't want to repeat the process, so the second he'd finished his howl he took off behind some of the forest debris.[break][break]
The Cacnea turned toward Natalia then, body glowing as it used GROWTH, readying its arms for yet another round of dangerous needles. Natalia simply smirked as she saw Houndour light the Cacnea up from the back with EMBER. Fear traveled into the Cacnea's eyes immediately and it began running around with its rear end on fire. Natalia let out a laugh, unable to stop herself, looking as the Houndour went around the small patches of grass to snuff out the little bits of fire that had stuck.[break][break]
Natalia moved over and dug into her bag, pulling out a small wrapped candy. "See? We make a pretty good team." She offered the candy with a smile. A Rare Candy she'd found on a route back with Poochyena and Houndour and she'd been saving it for this moment. A moment when she would need to create a better bond with a Pokemon.[break][break]
Houndour sniffed the candy before wagging his tail and taking the candy. A bark later and he was wagging his tail, feeling something build within. Oh, strength. He sniffed around her, then in the bag.[break][break]
Natalia laughed. "I don't have more! I'm sorry! I only found the one!" She laughed as he sniffed so much she was hitting her bum, the Houndour in her lap. He sat and licked his lips, letting Natalia brush her hands over him and scratch at his fur.[break][break]
Maybe this whole trainer thing wouldn't be so bad after all...[break][break]

After the few moments of the trainer's affections, Houndour was licking her hand in gratitude before starting for the grass again. Natalia herself got up off her butt and made her way toward the grass. As they walked, suddenly there was a rustle in the grass. Natalia stood up straight and looked toward the grass with her eyes trying to focus on what was behind the blades of grass. Seeing that the blades were shaking, Houndour had rolled his shoulders and braced himself for whatever was behind the grass.[break][break]
All it took was a small gleam of light from the wild Pokemon's FOCUS ENERGY to set Houndour off enough that he let out a blaze of EMBER along the spot of grass. As the grass lit on fire, a Stunky reached out to SCRATCH Houndour. He reeled back, LEERing at the Stunky before lifting his head up to HOWL, a display of dominance.[break][break]
Spooked, the Stunky let out a nasty POISON GAS, which had Houndour letting out a cough and Natalia immediately covered up her face. "Hold your breath, Houndour!" Though the Houndour snorted through his nose, he obeyed and withdrew from the puff of gas.[break][break]
"Get a lock on it and then break in close, don't give it a chance to back away. Once you're close, burn it. We can't play around with those sorts of fumes."[break][break]
His trainer... had a point. He'd figured out first hand how terrible a poisoning could be and he honestly didn't want to go through that shit again. So, he locked onto the Stunky and faded from sight. Once he was back, he had rammed right into the Stunky with a FEINT ATTACK. She tried to counter with a SCRATCH but Houndour dodged, jumping backward and letting out more EMBERs. As they littered her feet, she squealed and ran back. He didn't have to put out any flames that time, which had him thankful.[break][break]
Natalia came behind him and gave his whole body a good rub, walking enough that when she stopped to rub Houndour down, he was between her feet and legs. "Very good job, I'm very please." She admitted with a small laugh, brushing her hands over his ears and muzzle before giving his ribs a pat and starting down the trail. "I think we'll work out just fine, Houndour."[break][break]
Why... did her words fill him with pride?[break][break]

Natalia walked through the grass a bit more gracefully than Houndour, though admittedly Houndour looked a bit more like he was on top of things as he made his way through. The male Houndour had a way about him that Natalia figured was fare more masculine and intimidating than it needed to be for such an already intimidating type of Pokemon. It seemed to her like he couldn't wait to evolve and prove himself as alpha. Though, ironically, she was the alpha of their little pack. No, she supposed she was just the trainer that fed them. The momma. He could be the alpha... as long as her female Houndour didn't mind.[break][break]
Her thoughts traveled back on when she met a young man with orange hair. His Pokemon had so many nicknames. She thought that perhaps it would be easiest to name them to tell them apart. "What do you think of nicknames?"[break][break]
Houndour's only response was a shift of his ear to listen to the woman speak.[break][break]
"Well it's not as if you can tell me whether you have a name or not." Natalia pointed out, moving alongside the dual type through the grass. "But I think if I called you something long enough you'd come to realize it was your name. Isn't that how it works for infants? Admittedly I haven't spent enough time around children to know. And any of the pups I trained back in Kanto just went by pet names you give most canines."[break][break]
Not that the male Houndour had tuned her out, but he hadn't exactly continued listening in great detail. Seemed she was talking herself through something and he decided best to just let her and focus on the route ahead of them.[break][break]
Motioning toward the grass, Natalia stopped and bent down before putting a hand on Houndour's back between his shoulder blades. "It's a Sneasel." She said lowly, then rolled her eyes. "Not that you know what that is just yet. But, it's a threat." Perhaps the canine would recognize that word. The indicator that he had was in how his hair bristled and his fangs showed while his muzzle curled up in a low growl.[break][break]
Backing away from him, Natalia gave him a small pet on his hind leg. "First use ember."[break][break]
Houndour followed her request, spewing an EMBER at the grass that had moved.[break][break]
"Careful! It'll come out angry!"[break][break]
The Sneasel called out at the burn, SCRATCHing at whatever had attacked it. Natalia's warning had Houndour backing away, letting loose another EMBER at the angry Sneasel. She was quick to materialize, appearing for a sudden QUICK ATTACK. As Houndour was hit, he slid backward enough to get a bit of momentum, enough to use a FEINT ATTACK in retaliation. The Sneasel TAUNTed the Houndour with a snort through her nose and a flick of her claw. The invite was reciprocated with an EMBER which seemed to be expected because the Sneasel was already preparing for a QUICK ATTACK again.[break][break]
"She's coming back for another hit! Light the ground around you with an Ember!"[break][break]
Houndour didn't hesitate to point his muzzle down and light the ground around him with an EMBER as suggested. Once it was aflame, the Sneasel cried out. Seemed it was perfect timing and that he'd gotten the persistent weasel-cat. He snorted down at her corpse before beginning to snuff out the small fire he'd created in the area. Well, he wasn't sure what she was saying, but he supposed if she was fine with whatever was happening, he was. Though she'd said the same thing twice and looked at him... was 'Lucifer' what he was supposed to be called?? It beat 'fluffy' or 'spot' so he supposed he wouldn't complain.[break][break]
