honestly? sometimes, darius hated returning to fusube city. when looking at the broodish warrior, team virus grunt and overall edgy young adult, it was as obvious as it wasn't that his life was shattered fragments of self jammed into one another to make fit. it was through the chaos that broke him and through the chaos that he rose. a sticky carmine substance acting like the glue, but all this still buried so deep down that it was hard to remember the ego that existed before. his own alter to maneuver him through his terrible life without enough self-realization to pull him through the madness. ah well, this life is tremendously more fun that if he was a fully self-realized productive individual.
a sinister chuckle escaped the young man's lips as he let Lullaby go, his wary Kadabra with a penchant for raining on his damn parade. "I feel great, Lullaby! Can't you smell the smoke?? What a glorious time to be alive!" The words were in such a beautiful holy tone it was as if the young team virus grunt had ascended into a new plane of nirvana. The psychic type floated casually above the ashy grass and shook his head, his trainer had gone mad.
"I assure you, that you are bonkers." The old man trapped in the Kadabra's body shook his head in disbelief sending over the telepathic message before landing back down on his feet and conking Darius over the head with his twister spoon. "You promised levels and perhaps a new partner, let's focus on that, shall we?" Lullaby continued as Darius shoved his pokemon pretty hard. "You're a kill joy, enjoy the fire and the flames. Who knew that my home could be so alive with the smell of sulfur."
He was surely mad but still, a brilliance in the rugged demeanor of the stone that was Darius. A couple of polishes and who knows what he would turn in to.

"It smells like shit," she remarks to the lump of brown and yellow that sets burrowed in her arms. The rabbit pokemon hides her nose and draws her ears in close to her head to protect from the stench. Jackie had made a point that she wasn't fond of Peyton's choice in adventure as they approached -- the chattering and pouting and stubbornness was enough to drive Peyton wild -- but the Buneary was convinced that her trainer was creeping on neglect. They'd eventually come to a compromise in which Peyton would carry Jackie through the Route, because she would not deign to dirty her coat just for the sake of walking.

She'd figured that maybe if she hoped hard enough there would be no battles to worry about, either. Their journey would be for naught and Jackie would come out with only the scent clinging in her nostrils.

With her arms crossed, Peyton continues talking mostly to herself; she talks to the Buneary, but knows that the pokemon mostly doesn't understand. She mumbles about how they will need to train up before going to some gym and how Jackie is going to need to learn how to battle with more than just finesse. Her pokemon can navigate a battle field with movement, but Jackie will only get so far without real battle experience. For Peyton, it was just a matter of finding someone willing to help with training.

They stopped when they heard a noise carry over the wind.

Peyton took off in what she assumed was the direction of it, unfortunately walking into the wind as well as the scent of whatever that was being carried. She'd stopped in her tracks against upon finding a set of figures, one larger than the other. Shifting Jackie to one arm, Peyton raised her arm over head to wave out to the figures.

"what was that?" darius looked over at lullaby who simply pointed over at a blur of a human being. could he steal their pokemon? his eyes lit up with the idea as he walked closer to the blur who was a trainer with a bunerary the closer he got. darius wasn't very good with people, people often were afraid of him at first glance. throughout the years, he's learned how to turn it down a couple of notches for their sakes. "i'd say when two trainers lock eyes, it's time we battle." he teased, bright crimson eyes staring right through the girl. "but seems like we've got some company." the team virus grunt (not as though he had a badge or sign) gestured over to the couple with menacing looks on their faces.
the magmar seemed like the real bully with the rhyhorn being the muscle in the group. the two pointed over at darius and the other girl. "i'm darius, by the way. only introducing now in case I need to tell you to run or dodge." The boy whispered as he saw the wheels in both the wild pokemon's heads spinning. "i'll take on the rhyhorn, you get the magmar, cool?" he asked but he wasn't really looking for an answer.
"ice punch, psychic the rhyhorn." darius called out in his mind for lullaby to hear. the kadabra nodded as he used teleport to create some distance but also to distract the duo. a quick beckoning taunt for the rhyhorn who seemed engaged in the battle. the psychic type rose both of his hands into the air as an ice sphere began to build in the sky until it was the size of a watermelon. next, a violet energy seemed to spread it open creating the illusion of a fist with kadabra's psychic attack and as if Lullaby's hand was a canon, he shot the move straight towards the rock type knowing it would be super-effective. he also liked the pizzazz. it took one simple shot but as kadabra's ice punch shot through the Rhyhorn, it was over as the rhino plopped loudly onto the floor.

She recognizes the look in his eye that speaks to drive, and when she looks at the Kadabra she sees something akin to her and Jackie. A boy and his pokemon meets a girl and her pokemon; she hopes that he doesn't turn out to be some crazed freak in addition. [break][break] Instead he pointed out the less-than-friendly company to their rear, a pair of pokemon who would be cracking their knuckles in preparation of a fight if they had knuckles. "So it seems." He introduces himself in a flurry of words, evidently assuming to call the shots. "Peyton," is all she extends in response, and temporarily allows him to take the reins of the battle. He says he will go for the Rhyhorn, and she puts up no fight when she sets the Buneary down on the ground. Jackie, on the other hand, is stubborn to let go -- she holds on tight to the arms that set her down and then glares up at Peyton when her trainer kneels down. [break][break] "This won't be easy." Peyton pretends not to notice the pout that radiates from Jackie. "Use your jump kick, then dizzy punch, and then jump kick again. The Magmar shouldn't pose too much of a problem -- you'll make quick work of him, I'm sure." She smiles to her Buneary, waits for an affirmative, and then steps back to watch. [break][break] By the time Darius' fight was through, Peyton had barely scratched the Magmar. She'd jumped towards the pokemon, launching herself into the air and kicking the Magby off its feet once close enough. The action had caused the pokemon to release a cloud of gas in their immediate vicinity that left Jackie's throat to burn. Although she would have much preferred to hold her ears close to her head, Jackie alternated in making them hit the Magmar from the side in a flurry of punches that caused the pokemon to stumble. Clearly disoriented, he released another gas -- blacker, harder to see through for Peyton -- and moments later it blew away to show the Magmar in a heap on the floor. Jackie returned to her trainer with a smug sense of accomplishment. [break][break] "Good job, Jackie!" She'd lifted her little winner up into her arms after that, having taken note of how little Jackie thought of their landscape. After making sure her pokemon was content, Peyton turned to Darius with a broad grin on her face. "And good job, Darius. Your pokemon battles like a pro." Enough so for Peyton to be curious -- what experience did the two have? Should she be worried in her choice of a temporary partner? [break][break] "So what lead you to this... Interesting choice in adventure?" A probing question would do wonders for her curiosity that had yet to be sated. [break][break][break] --battle log!jackie used jump kick![break]

darius wasn't an idiot. the word glazed on with the sweetest of honey from peyton's lips were probing in nature. the grunt wasn't exactly subtle with his look, the brute strength he possessed physically along with lullaby's arsenal of moods within. some would be intimidated, others intrigued, he was interested in seeing where exactly peyton landed on the spectrum and decided to indulge. "it's all lullaby." lifting his hand to gesture to the kadabra who didn't quite enjoy the attention but appreciated the compliment. in the moment, lullaby clasped his hands together and a cold icy energy could be seen radiating from the tips followed by a psychic move or two. out came a tiny figurine of the buneary that he floated over to the buneary and her trainer, a simple closed smile to finish off the gesture. "you're fucking kidding me, right? you're a joke!!" darius screamed in his mind to his partner, literally the uncoolest thing he could've possibly done at that time. "they seem nice and you need friends. i'm sick of just hanging out with just us two. YOU ARE WELCOME!!" lullaby retorted back, as the kadabra noticed a pair of two more fire pokemon sauntering their way into both trainers' field of vision.
"look, two more, peyton." tilting his head to point to the growlithe and the numel. "i'll let you decide who you wanna take on." listening and hearing how she wanted the growlithe, the dastardly duo set their sights on the numel.
"barrier, to split 'em." darius started off the command, lullaby agreeing in his decision and brought his hands up to construct a quick barrier to separate the two wild pokemon from one another. the numel did not look happy, in fact, she find her target in Lullaby, cried out in frustration and used earth power.
"oh shit." darius was quite impressed with the other's strength. the ground beneath rattled and roared as a huge combination of rocks slammed into Kadabra taking out some of his health. "psychic." one of lullaby's favorite moves. the Kadabra clenched his fist and all of the rocks and boulders froze in the air. the powerful psychic energy crushed them into tiny psychic-rock rock spears and sent it barreling back towards the numel.
at the very end, the spunky numel was still standing managing to dodge quite a few of the spears. a harsh ember attack was sent out aimed right towards Kadabra. The intense heat burned at lullaby's belly and he cried out from the unfamiliar feeling. "knock off." the psychic pokemon's entire hand turned into a obsidian cloud of energy. he used his speed to cut through the flames and give the numel a quick whack knocking off any item it may have had and fainting the numel in the process.

Peyton hardly gets a response to her questions before another two pokemon appear on the route and interrupt any chance for Peyton to understand Darius' intentions. Jackie holds on to her ice doll for as long as possible, although being forced to set it down in order to prepare for the battle that is upcoming. She understands that it will most likely have melted away by the time that the battle is through -- the Buneary simply waits for Peyton's orders. [break][break] "The Growlithe." The comment of letting her decide which pokemon she would rather go after does not fly over her head. The comment puts Peyton on edge in a way that she cannot quite put a finger on why. She steps aside after that, drawing Jackie along with her and appreciating the barrier that separates the battlefield. [break][break] The Growlithe does not look pleased by this fact -- it tosses a look over to its accomplice before turning back to Jackie and Peyton, suddenly resolved in some mission to take down a trainer. Jackie, being a lover of arrogance and talking shit, blows a charming kiss in the Growlithe's direction that causes the look on its face to soften. Peyton is already settled on trying her hand at capturing it and she sets her bag on the ground to pull out a pokeball while instructing Jackie to, "use dizzy punch."[break][break] Jackie does not have the upperhand, however. Before she can run forwards the Growlithe is meeting her to snap its jaws at a fleshy point of the Buneary's fur. When it pulls away it spits the fur to the ground just in time to be battered by Jackie's ears, although not disoriented as the move is intended to do. After the battering, the Growlithe makes a point to put a decent amount of distance between the two pokemon and they circle each other for a moment. [break][break] "Jump kick, Jackie! Then I'll throw this." The Growlithe doesn't hear Peyton as it focuses on firing a puff of flames at Jackie. Although it leaves no lasting burns, it clearly spooks her into hopping forwards. The hop puts her in a perfect position to jump upwards again, kicking the Growlithe off of its feet and leaving a prime opportunity for Peyton to throw a pokeball at the pokemon. In an arch it envelopes the canine in a white light, and then in a flash it is gone. [break][break] Peyton counts the seconds under her breath and hopes that it stays gone. the virus grunt watched the battle from the sidelines and was pretty impressed with the little buneary. it seemed as if lullaby also casually glanced over to make sure the tiny bunny pokemon was alright as well. did he have a slight affinity for tiny little normal mons? perhaps. the kadabra wasn't sure why he felt a connection but it was there, he was certain he would see the bunny and this girl more. "you too, peyton." darius called out, having a good feeling about this particular battle. the pokeball began to shake as peyton looked so eager for the growlithe. a few eager movements and the pokeball's center turned white. "nice." darius nodded, he wasn't sure but he figured this may have been peyton's first wild catch. "is this your first catch this region?" he inquired, weirdly interested in actually finding out the answer. not as if peyton would want to respond after such patronizing sexist comments but darius was too oblivious to recognize all of that.
the wild ponyta neighed into the scene, her growlithe friend disappeared as she saw the pokeball on the floor and assumed the worst. she began with a ferocious growl in protest! Lullaby's attack instantly lowering in the process. the horse of flames galloped in-between the duo of them and the pokeball, kicking it back a little to protect it from them both. Lullaby shot a look over at peyton and jackie and wanted to play hero! the psychic type instantly shot over a confusion, a violent violet energy into the mare's mind watching as stars began to blink in her eyes. it seemed to have been effective enough.
in retaliation, the ponyta used stomp rushing over to the Kadabra, a full sprint over only to turn on her front legs and use her hind to send a powerful kick into the chest of Lullaby and knocking the psychic pokemon back a few feet. The anger began to build once again inside of Lullaby, his hand raising up as he sent a psychic attack out from his fingertips engulfing the other in a purple glow, raising the horse up into the air slightly as the psychic attack seemed to sap the rest of the energy the other had inside of her, being placed back on the floor causing the ponyta to faint.
darius didn't say anything, he looked over hoping that peyton was able to grab her pokeball with her new partner inside.
