[googlefont=Quicksand] I'M ALIVE FOR NOW BUT GOOD AS DEAD [break] 0443 words for someone beach time fun Sometimes, life was good. Basking on a lone sandbar in the middle of nowhere, Jenna accepted that today was a good day. She could taste the salt on the breeze, could feel the sun warm her bones, and the soft rhythms from her Bluetooth speaker made everything perfect; everything was in harmony. Nothing could ruin this. A cooler was ajar, filled to the brim with chilled drinks and sliced fruits for snacking. Sunscreen was at the ready. An umbrella waited nearby, for when it was time to escape from the hot rays. Even her swimsuit was new, showing how excited she had been to plan this trip. The Whirl Islands had been too tempting to ignore. For years, she had wanted to come to this place, but lacked the means. That was no longer the case. She could finally visit. And, more importantly, Jenna had a promise to fulfill. Lifting up her sunglasses, the Ranger looked out toward the water, where she could see the distant shape of Lapis as the pokemon glided across the soft ocean waves. Her Lapras needed to experience this. She had been–literally–a big fish in a small pond. Now, she could have the space she needed to frolic; enjoy herself. It wouldn't change what had happened to her, but Jenna hoped that this would ease the pain that those memories brought her newest companion. Maybe, someday, those dark days would seem like distant memories. Biting into a cold slice of Pecha berry, Jenna knew that could only happen if she could make the good memories outweigh the bad. “Don't get too far out, okay?” She projected her voice, knowing that Lapis was still in earshot. “The current was really strong coming in!” Those whirlpools were nasty, too. The water-type glanced back to Jenna, joy brimming from her eyes as if to say that she understood. Laying back down, the Ranger crossed both arms behind her head to keep it above the sand. “Ah, at least one of my pokemon is enjoying themselves.”She could feel Prick's pointed stare from the beach chair he was residing. He loomed over the ground as if he were a little king on a tiny throne. As Jenna learned, her Nidoran did not enjoy the beach. The minute they landed on the shore, he had sought higher ground. “Oh, come on. It isn't that bad. I thought you weren't scared of anything.” He would fight a Steelix if she let him. Maybe the sand was too hot for his little paw pads? She wasn't sure. If Nidorans could talk, she was sure Prick would protest her commands; instead, he opted for a loud huff and refused to budge. “Fine, fine. Do your thing.” Grouch. Oddly enough Frederick in all his time living in Johto had never actually visited the Whirl Islands. The unpredictable waters surrounding it always made it seem as if the risk wasn't worth the reward. But now that he had the freedom to travel wherever he wished and see the sights of the region it seemed like it could be a very interesting place to visit. He had heard stories of the various caves that wove through the depths of the islands, which sounded like just the sort of place that he wanted to explore. It had been some time since he went spelunking, so this should serve to be an interesting treat.
Yet being here meant he wasn't going to be able to easily access a pokemon center should something happen, which meant he had to take a few precautions first. First things first he had to scout the outer areas to see what sights there were to take in, as well as find out if the shore could serve as a safe place to retreat should there be some reason to flee the caverns. Normally he would have Race assist with this, but he couldn't risk his one ticket off the islands getting injured. Instead he had his nidoking taking point while his ampharos would follow alongside him. Water types were the most likely threat, so it would probably serve them well to have some advantage in that situation.
Tiny's large sensitive ears twitched, his eyes narrowing as an unexpected sound caught his attention. The nidoking looked over his shoulder to his trainer, a low rumble humming out from the back of the pokemon's throat. "Something interesting, huh? Go on then, lead the way." With a nod of confirmation the drill pokemon would make his way toward the mysterious sound. He could of sworn that he was hearing...music? The poisonous pins covering the pokemon's body bristled as he continued forward, readying himself for whatever type of human was waiting for them on this beach.
The group climbed over a sizable rock formation that was blocking their view, each one stopping atop the collection of rocks upon catching sight of the source of Tiny's curiosity. It seemed someone was having a little beach getaway on the very island they were hoping to explore. How interesting. Frederick slid down to the sandy shore without a word, paying little mind to whether or not the relaxing trainer noticed their approach or not. Tiny and Wooly followed closely behind, the first remaining alert and searching the area for pokemon while the other seemed almost bored with the whole situation.
"I have to say I didn't expect to find anyone else here." Frederick would finally speak as he made his approach, his eyes locked on to the Lapras out in the water as he positioned himself to stand beside Jenna. After taking a deep breath of the fresh ocean air he would look down to the trainer at rest, taking a few steps to the side to ensure he wasn't blocking any of her sunlight. "I hope you don't mind the intrusion. My friend here must have heard your music and insisted that we investigate." The ranger slid his thumbs behind his suspenders as he looked back at the nidoking with an amused smile. Tiny however was too keenly focused on Prick, his arms crossed as he intently stared at the nidoran with a hard stare to pay any mind to his trainer's antics.
With a silent chuckle to himself the dark skinned ranger turned back to the woman whose vacation he was unintentionally interrupting. "If you would rather enjoy some time alone I'm plenty willing to go back to my business. I was planning on spending my time here in the caves anyway, so you don't need to worry about me." Despite his words the man wasn't dressed like a beachgoer or a spelunker, dressed in a plain long sleeved dress shirt, brown slacks and suspenders. Though now that he was standing by the sea the urge to undo a couple buttons and feel the breeze on his chest was the slightest bit tempting...

[googlefont=Quicksand] I'M ALIVE FOR NOW BUT GOOD AS DEAD [break] 1257 words for Frederick Ferdinand nidoran beat a dumb fish, went from level five to level seven She was too comfortable. With each blink, Jenna could feel her eyelids weigh heavier and heavier. The temptation to take a nap felt overwhelming. The warmth of the sand, the gentleness of each cool breeze... The courier should have pinched herself. All of the miles she traveled seemed to radiate from her aching bones, renewing an exhaustion that she had not been aware of; it was what she deserved. It was a good pain. Moving felt impossible. Her joints had locked in place. The only thing that kept her conscious was the music on the speaker. Fading in and out of reality, it was the changing music that seemed to drag her back. Not even the threat of a sunburn was enough to make her move. As his trainer slept, Prick maintained his position; his ears twitched to and fro, listening to every sound that was carried his way with startling acuteness. Nidorans were perceptive... but, maybe, not as perceptive as their older counterparts. Regardless, when the sounds of movement reached his ears, the purple rodent sat himself up on his haunches; his red eyes tracing the line of the beach. Something was coming. Maybe it was a threat. Maybe it meant no harm. It didn't matter. Prick would fight it, either way. Eventually, his gaze came to a halt, focusing on a rock in the distance. Just in time to see something tall, lumbering, and purple. The sound that Prick released was... indescribable. As shrill as an alarm, the small Nidoran kept releasing the pitched wail, as if to express that this was his territory and that the newcomer should take his pokemon and leave. Jenna, delirious and annoyed, sat upright. “Are you dying?” She had never heard her Nidoran make a noise like that. Was it funny? Maybe? She was too tired to deal with this. “What's got you so worked up, huh? You're acting like–Oh.” At that moment, the Ranger had twisted her head, seeing the approaching trainer and his pokemon party... and the Nidoking. As the group grew closer, Prick eventually stopped his screeching. If Jenna could guess why it was probably out of intimidation. It was easy to mouth-off from a distance. Not wanting to stare, she gave a cursory glance from the dark-haired man to the rest of his companions. They were all evolved. This guy was experienced, huh? Pushing up her sunglasses, she spared a wave to him and his team as they finally drew close. “Me either. I thought I would have this place to myself,” but, she wouldn't mind the company. She only picked out this beach because it seemed welcoming, not because it was secluded. “It's no trouble. I figured I'd have to see someone come around these parts.” Some trainers like to swim between the islands. Why they did that, she had no idea. Wait, they heard her music? Glancing between the Nidoking and her speaker, Jenna could only give a sheepish laugh. “Sorry, guess I did have the volume cranked up pretty high. I... uh, I didn't know they kept the sensitive hearing. I don't know why I thought that.” When she glanced back to her own purple brute, she could see him glaring straight at the larger adversary. His little feet were tapping against the chair as if wanting to leap forward and start some trouble. “Buddy, don't even think about it. He'd chuck you straight into the stratosphere.”After her warning, Jenna twisted her head back to the conversation and waved off the man's concerns. “Hey, it's no problem. I don't mind sharing. Plenty of space for everyone.”Out of habit, she glanced away from the older trainer and back towards the water; towards her Lapras. While she trusted Lapis' ability to swim, she knew that her pokemon was still inexperienced. If there was trouble, the pokemon had been told to head back to the shore. “Hm?” The elegant sea creature was doing exactly that. Maybe that shouldn't be a surprise. Her water-type had been swimming for the last few hours. There might not be a problem. “Hold on a sec.” She replied, scooping up Prick to keep him from causing any more trouble. “You okay, girl? Need a lunch break?”No, that wasn't it. Her Lapras looked anxious... and when Jenna glanced behind her, she could see why. A barboach was swimming their way. It would shoot itself from the water, aggressively wiggling its body before colliding back beneath the waves. “What'd you do?” And she smiled, unfazed by the aggressive fish. Lapis, in a fit of shyness, tried to scoot up onto shore and hide behind Jenna's body... which was fruitless, considering that the Lapras was at least twice as big as her blue-haired trainer. “Oh, come on. It's okay. We've never battled together. How about we give it a try, huh?” Lapis tried to bury her face in the sand. “Aw, not feeling up to it?” That was okay. If one of her team wouldn't fight, she always had a member that would. Prick kept wriggling in her arms, desperate to escape from the humiliating hold Jenna had subjected him to. And the Barboach launched itself from the water, its slimy skin allowing it to slide onto the warm sand... and flop. And flop. “Really? You're hyped to fight this?” Jenna pitied the Pokemon but released Prick without another word. He hit the ground with a hard thump. “Well, I guess... use Horn Attack?” Prick had been waiting all day to hear those words. In a fit of fury, the little Nidoran charged forward with his head lowered, striking the water type with the full force of his body. It seemed to do good damage, judging by the sound of the impact. Jenna had been stung by that horn before. She knew it was deceptively sharp; yet, the fish was quick to retaliate with a hard mud-slap from its tail-fin. Great. That meant obscured vision. Prick backed off, trying to rub off the mud that now coated his face. “Don't worry about that. We'll try Poison Jab. It can't move very far.” Her hand dropped, petting her Lapras, as she watched her Nidoran engage in this low-level battle. Might as well take care of it. The first poison jab missed. The second mud slap missed, as well. Thankfully, the second time was the charm. The poison jab was a success and having learned from before, her Nidoran managed to dodge the third--and final--Mud-Slap. After that, the girl was unsure if it was the poison or the collective damage that managed to render the Barboach unable to fight. In sympathy, she picked up the fish and returned him back to the waters, where it should have remained. A fish fighting on the surface. How ridiculous... PRICK USED HORN ATTACK.
BARBOACH USED MUD-SLAP.
PRICK USED POISON JAB. IT MISSED.
BARBOACH USED MUD-SLAP. IT MISSED.
PRICK USED POISON JAB. BARBOACH WAS POISONED.
BARBOACH USED MUD-SLAP. IT MISSED.
BARBOACH TOOK POISON DAMAGE.
BARBOACH FAINTED. “Come here.” She placed a hand under her Nidoran's chest, tilting him up to where his eyes were looking up at her. “Hold still, alright?” She had a bottle of water in her hand, ready for use. “Just keep blinking. It's gonna be cold.” With a gentle flush, she tried to clear the mud from his eyes. Prick could be a brat, but he was her brat. I CALL YOU BY YOUR ANCIENT NAME PHARAOH LEAP.

It came as a bit of a relief to see that the young lady at least appeared to be friendly. As much as he wanted to do a bit of cave diving he was always willing to put his plans on hold for good conversation. He bowed his head to her as she gave him permission to linger, his smile growing slightly as he did so. "I'm glad to hear this. I have to admit it's a bit of a relief to know that there's another person on the island. Being isolated from civilization can be risky, no matter how well prepared you are." A hand moved to give his satchel a soft pat, the fold that normally closed it bulging with tools and supplies. This was one trip where he intended to come fully prepared. Frederick glanced back to Tiny, letting out a soft chuckle as he reached back to give the burly pokemon's snout a gentle pat on the side. "I assure you it's not lost. They don't rely on it as much for protection, but instead use it to hunt and track down their prey. These big ears aren't just for show." A hand moved to give the nidoking's ear a soft stroke, which he would respond to with a grunt and a twitch of the ear. Even as his trainer was touching him he couldn't break his stare toward the nidoran, practically daring him to start something. The ranger simply shook his head at this, his shoulders shaking slightly as he silently chuckled to himself. His attention turned back to Jenna, his thumbs slipping behind his suspenders as he nodded in agreement. "Yes, but I wouldn't have you sharing the beach with a stranger." A hand extended down to the lounging girl as he spoke, his calm smile gaining a bit of warmth as he did. "Ranger Frederick Ferdinand. The pleasure is mine, I'm sure." The girl seemed plenty relaxed in this environment so he doubted she would need his assistance as a ranger, but it was a good way to introduce himself regardless. People tended to put a bit more trust in rangers and were generally more likely to take their words to heart rather than dismissing them completely. Brows rose as he turned his attention to the lapras out in the waters. She seemed like she was in quite the hurry to get to shore. Perhaps she unintentionally agitated some of the local pokemon? As she came closer it became apparent that this was the case, a determined looking barboach following hot on her tail. Frederick and Tiny watched in silence as the battle between nidoran and barboach unfolded, each one closely watching the poisonous pokemon's movements. He was doing well for a pokemon that had just been blinded. Yet before the battle could conclude another pokemon would enter the fray. A staryu lifted itself out of the water and came rushing toward the nidoran, aiming to take advantage of his blind and distracted state to tackle him from the side. Seeing this Frederick would extend a hand to point at the quickly approaching star pokemon, his voice gaining a bit of sharpness as he commanded his pokemon. "Thundershock." Immediately the ampharos's eyes locked on to the sneaky staryu, electricity crackling through his yellow fur. He took a few quick steps forward, positioning himself between his trainer and the attacker before he let out a strong jolt of electricity. The thunder shock would arc directly into the staryu, causing the gem in the middle of it's body to suddenly flicker the light would completely fade. "Stay alert Wooly. I'm sure all this noise drew some attention." As he spoke he would step over toward Jenna and Prick, a hand reaching into his shirt pocket to pull out a handkerchief. Frederick bent his long legs to squat down beside the girl and her pokemon, offering the fabric square to the trainer. "It's best to wipe away as much you can from around the eyes as well. It can still get in his eye and cause further irritation." lvl 32 Ampharos (Static)Light Screen | Thundershock | Charge | Cotton Spore | Cotton Guard | Power GemStaryu used Tackle! It failed! [googlefont=Quicksand] I'M ALIVE FOR NOW BUT GOOD AS DEAD “Thanks.” Jenna smiled as she accepted the handkerchief from Frederick's hand. With gentle care, she brushed the sand and mud away from her Nidoran's eyes, tending to him as a mother would a child. If Prick was opposed to this treatment, he did not show it. “I don't think I introduced myself, huh? I'm Jenna Wright. It's good to meet a fellow Ranger,” and she would have extended her hand to him, if she wasn't busy with cleaning Prick's dirty face. “Alright, all clean!” She released the purple pokemon from her arms, just as he seemed to grow irate with the baby treatment. “Frolic! Be free!” And much to her surprise, her pokemon refrained from running straight back to the chair that he had been perched. Because he had seen a Krabby crawl up on the beach. And was now running full force to kick its ass as well. “Wait! No! Not what I meant!” In a scramble, Jenna propelled from her kneeling position and chased after her little demon. From one fight to another, without any hesitation. Her Nidoran was going to give her a heart attack. Lapis, on the other hand, slowly raised her head up from the sand. While she was shy, she gave a nod to the other Ranger, looking at him with eyes that expressed that she could understand him. As her trainer ran off, in a rush to snag her Nidoran, she could only look at him with an expression that seemed to say, “this happens a lot.” Prick had already attacked the Krabby. Without any provocation, he lunged forward with a horn attack... and missed. Skidding across the sand, the little troublemaker looked back to see Jenna panting, hands on knees, giving him a death glare. “Fine. You win! Fight it, I guess!” She was so caught up with dealing with Prick that she had failed to notice the Horsea that had drifted close to shore. Without any hesitation, the attacked Krabby turned itself around to shoot out a stream of angry bubbles. Prick, who was busy trying to realign himself, took the attack head-on. Each resounding pop sounding as fierce as a slap to the face, but the stubborn creature remained up right, shaking it off. The second horn attack made contact. “Watch out for the claws!” Jenna called out, noticing that the Krabby was geared up to snag Prick after he rammed himself into it. Maybe he had chosen to heed his trainer's advice, because Prick skipped back in an attempt to avoid the vice grip... but wasn't fast enough. It managed to snag Prick right by the horn. “Poison Jab–While its too close to dodge.” Prick was quick to retaliate. As the Krabby had him gripped, there was no way for it to avoid. He raised his paw, slicked it in the poison that secreated from his pinched horn, and smacked it right against the Krabby's face. That was enough to make it release its grip, releasing another stream of bubbles as it tried to waddle back into the water. Prick, without any hesitation, charged straight through the attack and delivered the finishing move. Another horn attack. The third and final, which knocked the Krabby straight into the water where it was originally headed. “You're a little monster.” She glanced back to Frederick and gave an embarrassed shrug, trying to hide the heat that reached her cheeks. She knew that his wild behavior was unusual. Most people are able to keep their pokemon under better control. “I... uh... We're working on fixing this!”NIDORAN USED HORN ATTACK. IT MISSED!

Frederick's brows rose as the girl revealed herself to be a ranger as well, his head tilting slightly to one side as he moved to wrest his forearms on his knees. He always forgot that they allowed such young people to become rangers. Then again young ones were often the ones with the passion and energy to get the job done, even if they weren't usually the wisest or most experienced. "So you're a ranger then? Now I see why you feel some comfortable taking a vacation in a place like this." He would chuckle softly as he watched the Nidoran run off, the nostalgic sight filling the long haired ranger with a warm feeling. He glanced over to Tiny, who he could tell from the slight softness that was coming into his eyes was feeling the same thing. It wasn't too long ago that he too was a rowdy little guy that was desperate to prove himself and get stronger. Remaining in his squatting position Fred would look over to Jenna, a warm smile of understanding on his face. He didn't say anything just yet, instead simply turning his attention to the unfolding battle. It was hard not to laugh as the girl gave in and let the pokemon have his random battle. As amusing as it was the sight was also concerning. A nidoran that lacked the proper structure could grow to be difficult to control. He questioned whether giving in and letting him do whatever he wanted was a wise decision. Tiny took a few steps forward to be closer to the battle, overlooking the battle with a the watchful gaze of a stern father. His nostrils flared as the battle went on, the results of the conflict not satisfying the beast. From her perspective the nidoran was lacking in control and direction. But what could one expect from a child? Meanwhile Wooly would just be watching the group with a bored expression, his gaze turning to the shore as he let out an exhausted sigh. His attention would eventually fall on a horsea who was watching the battle with great interest. The small water type would start making her way out of the water, looking like she was intent on interrupting the battle between Prick and the krabby. With an exasperated sigh the ampharos would let out another thunder shock, this one aimed at the interfering pokemon. The electric charge immediately overwhelmed the horsea, causing it to fall limp and be taken back to sea but the gentle tide. Frederick slowly rose to his feet, meeting Jen's embarrassment with a shrug and a calm smile. "I have quite a bit of experience with raising Nidoran, as I'm sure you can see." He gestured toward bulky stoic pokemon beside him, not even looking over to see what he was doing at the moment. "They are a wily bunch that are difficult to control without the proper technique. I understand that each trainer has their own raising technique, but I could offer a bit of advice if you would be interested in hearing it."lvl 34 Ampharos (Static)Light Screen | Thundershock | Charge | Cotton Spore | Cotton Guard | Power Gem Wooly used Thunder Shock! [attr="class","therivmid"] [attr="class","therivmid1"] When Frederick offered to spare some advice, Jenna chuckled in embarrassment. It wouldn't hurt. She knew it looked like she was inexperienced. Nidorans could be a handful, but Prick was... well... “I'd be foolish to turn down that offer.”[break][break] “Although... I think he's really acting up because you have your Nidoking out and about.” She scratched her cheek, leaning over to whisper her next comment. This was something that she only wanted the other Ranger to hear. “Back when I... uh... picked him out, the caregiver said he was sensitive around his own kind. He's kinda... well.” She cupped both hands over her Nidoran's ears, just to muffle the sensitive hearing that he possessed.[break][break] “His horn was never as...you know... It's just a little bit on the short side. I think his litter mates gave him a hard time about it.” It was weird to say it aloud. It felt as if it was alluding to something else. Jenna tried to remain mature, rubbing the back of Prick's ears in a way that soothed the little bastard. Maybe his self-esteem issues had been one of the factors that made Jenna pick him from the others. He had spunk. Back then, she had wanted her first pokemon to be independent; someone that wouldn't rely on her for everything.[break][break] She got all of that and more. “So, he's got a bruised ego and a lot of sass. I'm hoping that I can help him get past these problems with his self-image, but... how the hell do you do that with a pokemon?” Prick hummed, unaware of what they were talking about. His ability to discern human speech was still developing.[break][break] In the distance, something blue and precious wandered out from the entrance to one of the caves; alone and confused. The tiny Piplup wandered onto the beach, squinting as its little eyes adjusted to the harsh light... and then, the creature gazed out at a full array of pokemon, all of them far bigger and scarier than it could comprehend.[break][break] But, that didn't stop it. The tiny bird waddled through the sand, past the Nidoking, and pushed off the lid to the cooler Jenna had brought with her. With one tiny hop, its flippers snagged onto the edge of the cold box and it tried to heave itself inside... except, it was too fat.[break][break] The cooler flipped over, ice and all, sealing the creature inside. The little thief was trapped.[break][break] “Huh?” She turned her head, but was unable to see the cooler due to the shapes of Frederick's team. “They seem interested in something. Are they hungry?”[break][break][break] PHARAOH LEAP CREATES [googlefont=Roboto:400,700] [googlefont=Montserrat:300,700] [googlefont=Raleway:300,400,800] [newclass=.theriv]width:535px;background-color:#f7f7f7;text-align:justify;color:#444444;letter-spacing:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop]border-left:solid 35px #444444;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop1]border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-left:none;padding:39px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivimg]height:100px;width:100px;padding:14px;background-color:#f3f3f3;border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-radius:100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivimg img]height:100px;width:100px;border-radius:100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric]font:25px Montserrat;line-height:20px;padding-bottom:12px;white-space:nowrap;letter-spacing:-2px;color:#444444;padding-top:10px;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes]max-height:28px;overflow:auto;padding-right:9px;text-align:justify;color:#bbbbbb;font:12px raleway;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes::-webkit-scrollbar]width:1px;background-color:#f7f7f7!important;border:none!important;border-radius:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#e3e3e3!important;border:none!important;border-radius:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes div]font:bold 15px Raleway;text-transform:uppercase;margin:0px 15px 0px 0px;float:left;color:#506276;line-height:28px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop2]font:bold 7px Raleway;line-height:7px;letter-spacing:1px;text-transform:uppercase;font-weight:800!important;padding-top:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop2 b, .therivtop2 a]font:bold 7px Raleway;line-height:7px;color:#506276!important;font-weight:800!important;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric2]border-right:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-bottom:solid 1px #e3e3e3;background-color:#f3f3f3;padding:39px 0px;text-align:center;font:37px Montserrat;line-height:30px;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;color:#999999;font-style:italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric2 i]color:#506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmidd]border-left:solid 35px #506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid]border-left:solid 35px #e3e3e3;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1]border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-left:none;border-top:none;padding:49px;font:10px Verdana;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 font]font:bold 11px Roboto;color:#506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 b]font:bold 11px Roboto;color:#999999;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 i]font:11px Roboto;font-style:italic;[/newclass]

The ranger listened carefully to the girl's words, his focus slowly drifting to her small poisonous companion. His gaze would focus on his horn, which now that she mentioned it was in fact shorter than Tiny's was when he was in that form. It made sense that a pokemon as rowdy as Nidorans would use such weakness as an excuse to hassle their own kind. They had a reputation for being feisty and territorial, so he could only imagine how much more so Prick would be given his history. It seemed as if he had the exact opposite problem as Tiny, oddly enough. Still, he think he had a good grasp on the situation. "I see. So your little friend here has already been put through the wringer?" He smiled as he spoke, his head bobbing as his index finger moved to curl around his chin. Pokemon fighting each other was just a part of nature, so he didn't really feel too bad for the little guy. In fact... "This is good. Experiencing conflict from a young age and being forced to defend themselves is a good foundation for any pokemon meant to take part in battle." His tone was as calm and relaxed as before, his smile gaining a hint of amusement as he continued on. "He'll make for a fine nidoking, I'm sure. You just need to properly direct his aggression and, as you said, help improve his self-esteem."He looked back at his own pokemon, a thoughtful hum rumbling out from the back of his throat. Both of the pokemon he had with him were always pictures of confidence, even before he took them on and gave them the proper training. But there was one member of his team that faced a similar issue, one that initially lacked the confidence needed to be a proper fighter. "Encouragement and affection are going to be your strongest tools. When he does well he needs to feel that you truly appreciate his efforts. Though I doubt you'll have any problems with that."He directed his smile back toward Jenna, brows raising slightly. In just this short time he had already seen that the girl cared deeply for her team, treating them like cherished companions rather than tools or just pets. It was a good start. "But that doesn't mean you should be soft. Disobedience needs to be handled with a firm hand. If you allow him to run off and battle without permission now then it will only get worse as he evolves. There needs to be consequence." His hands would lower themselves to his waist, thumbs slipping behind his suspenders as he looked down at the nidoran. "I do not condone abuse, but I've found that expressing disapproval paired with denying them their next meal is a potent combination. It may sound harsh, but if you've done a good job showing them how much you truly care then they will understand it comes from a place of love."Meanwhile Wooly would be lazily staring off into the distance, this entire conversation totally uninteresting to the haughty light pokemon. It was then that he spotted a piplup wandering onto the shore, a sight that caught the pokemon's attention. Electricity crackled through his yellow fur as he watched and waited, expecting the pokemon to attack or start causing trouble. But when it became clear that the pokemon was more interested in the stranger's ice chest than anything else the ampharos simply smiled, amused by the smaller creature's antics. It's not like he cared what happened to her food. Yet the piplup wasn't the only pokemon that surfaced from the ocean to investigate. A psyduck was watching from the water's surface, perhaps even the one who put the piplup up to this daring task. The moment the ice chest toppled over the psyduck's eyes would go wide, her tiny feet moving quickly to get her onto the shore and free her friend. Wooly simply grunted at this sight, releasing a thundershock that would stop the psyduck in it's tracks and cause it to come to a halt. The duck toppled forward along the ground, skidding to a stop face down in the sand. Wooly wanted to see how this would play out. He didn't need some dumb duck getting in the way of all this. Tiny stood and silently watched all of this with crossed arms, his chest expanding as he let out an exasperated sigh. Yet upon hearing Jenna behind him he would step to the side, allowing her to see squirming upturned cooler. The nidoking made no moves to interfere, simply standing in silence to see how the humans wanted to handle this situation. Frederick on the other hand would let out a laugh, taking a few steps closer to the trapped piplup. "No, I don't think so. It seems more like you have an unexpected visitor. It's likely harmless considering Wooly and Tiny didn't feel a need to sound a warning." His eyes hardened slightly as he shot a questioning glance to his pokemon, informing them that what he said had better be the case. It would be so disappointing for his team to fail him after coming this far. lvl 36 Ampharos (Static)Light Screen | Thundershock | Charge | Cotton Spore | Cotton Guard | Power Gem Wooly used Thunder Shock! If I can't evade my fate
[attr="class","therivmid"] [attr="class","therivmid1"] Frederick's words had an impact on the younger Ranger.[break][break] Jenna dipped her head downward, hiding her smile with the length of her bangs. Hearing that small bit of praise meant a lot, far more than it should have. “Thanks. I... I'm trying my best. For them.” Jenna had never envisioned herself as a trainer. She had never envisioned herself as a Ranger, either. Life had taken so many strange turns for her; some turns were more unfortunate than others. These last few years had not been easy... but every day was getting better.[break][break] And she would keep doing her best. Her pokemon were family. “Least I won't have to worry about you so much, right?” Prick seemed as if he would doze off at any moment, too content to be his usual bratty self.[break][break] At the mention of discipline, Jenna released a nervous laugh, knowing that was one of her weak points. “Denying a meal, huh? I wonder if I'd be able to.” The girl had a diplomatic approach with her pokemon. She always wanted to talk it out. It wasn't always an effective method–but for most of her team–it worked just fine. Prick was one of the few exceptions. He could be too stubborn to reason with. That was probably why they butted heads so much. “But, maybe I'll give it a try... but only if he's really acting up.” She didn't want a team that felt bound to every word she said. She knew she was a new trainer. There would be mistakes. If her team could think for themselves, they could correct the situation.[break][break] “Hm?” Jenna questioned when Frederick mentioned an unexpected guest, turning to glance back to her beach set-up as Tiny stepped out of the way. What she saw made the girl snort; a reaction that escaped from her before she could control it. All she could see was a small pair of feet wiggling underneath the weight of the cooler, struggling to escape. “What do we have here, huh?” She scooped up Prick into her arms, knowing that after all that battling, he might take a nap.[break][break] The piplup managed to shrug the cooler off, clutching one of Jenna's canned seltzer waters in its tiny flippers. The little thief saw the young Ranger approach, which sent it into a panic. It ran off, clutching the precious beverage... before tripping and face-planting into the sand. The thief wasn't going to get anywhere.[break][break] Jenna sat down her sleepy Nidoran–back into the chair that he had claimed as his own. “Gonna need to ask Lapis to make more ice,” and she set the ice chest upright, thankful that most of her food had been in plastic bags or tupperware. It was easy to put it all back into its proper place. With that mess cleaned up, there was only one thing left to do.[break][break] She approached the Piplup, gently scooping it up from the sand. “You alright?” The small thief was almost paralyzed with terror at being caught, clutching the can even closer to its chest. “Hey, hey. I'm not mad. You should learn to ask if you want something. That's the polite thing to do.” The Piplup was young. The Ranger could discern that from its size. Maybe that was why it was forced to scavenge from other people like this.[break][break] Jenna took the can from the water-types grip, and instead of confiscating it, she cracked it open and passed it back. The small Piplup eagerly gulped down the contents as if she had been dying of thirst. “You're welcome.” The small bird looked thin. Hunger could motivate pokemon to do all sorts of crazy things. “You're having a hard time feeding yourself, huh?” It nodded, looking far better after quenching its thirst. “Well. I got plenty of food if you're still hungry. Okay?” But that wouldn't solve the problem of it being able to take care of itself.[break][break] There was an easy solution. When the Piplup finished its drink, Jenna removed one of her pokeballs and tapped it right against its head. Regardless of if it chose to come with her or not, the contents of the ice chest would be available to it.[break][break] “Alright, I'm getting bored of standing around.” She walked back to one of her bags, pulling out a volleyball. If Frederick was in range, she'd give it a quick toss towards him. “If you don't feel like messing around in the caves, we could goof around. The weather's nice. Why not?” Or, if he wasn't feeling inclined, she gestured a thumb to his collection of pokemon. “They could, if you're not feeling up to it.”[break][break][break] PHARAOH LEAP CREATES [googlefont=Roboto:400,700] [googlefont=Montserrat:300,700] [googlefont=Raleway:300,400,800] [newclass=.theriv]width:535px;background-color:#f7f7f7;text-align:justify;color:#444444;letter-spacing:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop]border-left:solid 35px #444444;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop1]border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-left:none;padding:39px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivimg]height:100px;width:100px;padding:14px;background-color:#f3f3f3;border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-radius:100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivimg img]height:100px;width:100px;border-radius:100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric]font:25px Montserrat;line-height:20px;padding-bottom:12px;white-space:nowrap;letter-spacing:-2px;color:#444444;padding-top:10px;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes]max-height:28px;overflow:auto;padding-right:9px;text-align:justify;color:#bbbbbb;font:12px raleway;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes::-webkit-scrollbar]width:1px;background-color:#f7f7f7!important;border:none!important;border-radius:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color:#e3e3e3!important;border:none!important;border-radius:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivnotes div]font:bold 15px Raleway;text-transform:uppercase;margin:0px 15px 0px 0px;float:left;color:#506276;line-height:28px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop2]font:bold 7px Raleway;line-height:7px;letter-spacing:1px;text-transform:uppercase;font-weight:800!important;padding-top:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivtop2 b, .therivtop2 a]font:bold 7px Raleway;line-height:7px;color:#506276!important;font-weight:800!important;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric2]border-right:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-bottom:solid 1px #e3e3e3;background-color:#f3f3f3;padding:39px 0px;text-align:center;font:37px Montserrat;line-height:30px;text-shadow:1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px 1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 0px 0px #ffffff, 0px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px 1px 0px #ffffff, 1px -1px 0px #ffffff, -1px -1px 0px #ffffff;color:#999999;font-style:italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivlyric2 i]color:#506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmidd]border-left:solid 35px #506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid]border-left:solid 35px #e3e3e3;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1]border:solid 1px #e3e3e3;border-left:none;border-top:none;padding:49px;font:10px Verdana;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 font]font:bold 11px Roboto;color:#506276;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 b]font:bold 11px Roboto;color:#999999;[/newclass] [newclass=.therivmid1 i]font:11px Roboto;font-style:italic;[/newclass]

You're free to do whatever you like, friend. But you can't blame me for the consequences.

To be perfectly honest the dark skinned man suspected that Jenna simply wouldn't have it in her to punish her pokemon. She was someone who treasured her team as loyal companions rather than children in need of punishment and a firm hand. She was too soft for her own good as far as he was concerned. He only hoped that Prick wouldn't turn out to be problematic because of it. That being said he wasn't about to deny the viability of such an outlook, assuming her pokemon embraced it rather than taking advantage of it. Only time would tell how things would turn out for this young ranger. He only hoped that it would be for her rather than against her.
"As I said, don't be abusive. True discipline comes from a place of love. Even if he doesn't like it now, I'm sure he'll grow to appreciate you for it." As he spoke he would reach back to give his own purple beast a soft pat on the side of the head. The nidoking simply grunted at this, though if one listened closely enough one might have confused it for a chuckle. Frederick would watch in amusement was Jenna interacted with the would be thief, his thumbs sliding behind his suspenders as he shook his head at the helpless little pokemon. Personally he wasn't too fond of the little thief, but he wasn't about to spoil the girl's moment with his opinions. Besides, it seemed that she was making a new friend. Hopefully she would be able to rehabilitate it rather than have it grow up to be a thief.
Brows rose as the girl suddenly declared her boredom, pulling out a volleyball. Frederick laughed at the offer, glancing back at his two pokemon as he gave his response. "As fun as that sounds, I'm afraid my team is tired of waiting on me. I apologize for turning you down, but we really must be on our way." Yet as he turned forward he would move toward the blue haired ranger, a hand reaching into his back pocket to pull out his wallet. From within the leather folds he would pull out a card betweenn his index and middle fingers, which he would hold out to the other trainer. "I've enjoyed our time together. I think you've got some potential in you to be a fine ranger, Jenna. If you ever need anything at all simply give me a call."
With the offer complete the man would slip his wallet back into his pocket and turn back to his team. "Alright you two, you've been patient enough. Let's go see what those caves have to offer for a challenge, yes?" The two pokemon would nod in unison as they moved to follow after the trainer, who would offer Jenna one more friendly nod and smile as he waved to her. "I look forward to hearing from you." With that he would make his way back down along the beach, his eyes sharp and alert for both the cave's entrance and any more pokemon that thought they might intrude on his spelunking.
