♦♦♦♦  ♦♦♦♦ The normally quiet Ilex Forest found itself host to a rather large visitor that day. Almost 10 feet tall, the mighty Mamoswine confidently made his way through the dimly lit trail. On his back was his trainer, a blue haired girl who was taking a short nap. Mirai had entered the forest earlier in the morning to look for a certain rare ingredient that she needed for a little pet project she had. Unfortunately she got a little carried away with her excitement and tired herself out while wandering around. And so for the trip back to the town, she entrusted the journey to Mamoswine to get them home safely.
While in the forest, it was hard to say what time it was without looking at a watch. The tall trees blocked out the sun so it was somewhat dark even in the middle of the day. There were still some small traces of light peering through though so that at least told them it wasn't nighttime yet. But for how much longer was anyone's guess. The only one with a watch at the moment was fast asleep.
With his rather intimidating presence, Mamoswine's trek through the woods went mostly unchallenged. Most of the tiny woodland Pokemon wouldn't get in the way of the Twin Tusk Pokemon. Occasionally there would be those who would try to stand in his path but a grunt and a glare later and they would turn tail and run. Mirai counted on this too which was why she could sleep in peace. This peace however wasn't meant to last. Prowling and stalking the proud majestic Pokemon were a few brave ferocious souls that called the forest home. They didn't take too kindly to Mamoswine strutting around like a king without a care.
This was all in their heads only of course. If anything Mamoswine was being careful not to step on or bump into anything unnecessarily. But that didn't stop a few Pokemon from feeling a bit threatened. One such encounter would jolt Mirai awake due to the noisy commotion.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ "What is it Mamo-kun?"
Mirai would ask while rubbing her eyes. She had a good nap but now probably wasn't the best time to sleep. The journey back wasn't going to be peaceful it seemed. Hearing Mamoswine grunt in response, she peered from on top of the Twin Tusk Pokemon's head to see what was holding them up and spotted a bright yellow Pokemon threatening to attack. It was a Weepinbell. Mirai wasn't quite sure what set it off.
"Can you go around Mamo-kun?"
Mamoswine obliged turned the other direction but the Weepinbell, angrily hopped over, unwilling to let go of the confrontation. It then attacked them unexpectedly with Vine Whip. A battle was unavoidable. Taking care not to drop his precious rider, Mamoswine quickly took a few steps back out of the Vine Whip's range and prepared to engage. He wasn't going to let this go.
"No luck huh? Let's go for it then I suppose. Ice Shard!"
Retaliating, Mamoswine hurled shards of ice at high speed at the Flycatcher Pokemon dealing highly effective damage. Combined with a difference in levels, the Weepinbell was on its last legs. In a desperate attempt it tried to attack with Vine Whip again, but this time Mamoswine was more prepared. Gathering up chunks of ice yet again, the Twin Tusk Pokemon let loose another barrage that cut through the vines and went straight on to Weepinbell, knocking it out.
"I guess you threatened it in some way Mamo-kun. Still I've never seen a Weepinbell so aggressive before though. Could it have something to do with the migrations we've heard about? Perhaps there's something in this forest that's making them feel uncomfortable. Well, besides you of course."
Mamoswine couldn't really care much about the reason. If anything stubbornly decided to stand in their way, he would stubbornly fight back at full strength. The question was what would come after them next.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ As they headed for the exit, Mirai spotted a small shrine that they passed by on their way in earlier that day. It was said to be built in honor of the forest's protector, or so the lore goes. It was an interesting little stopover but she already had her fill of examining it a while ago.
"We should be almost out soon Mamo-kun. The shrine wasn't too far away from the entrance to the forest."
Mirai yawned. She really was feeling quite tired and the warmth and softness of Mamoswine's back was really inviting and tempting her to resume her nap. Just when she decided to though, the Twin Tusk Pokemon stopped abruptly again, this time due to picking up something in the air. Was it some sort of powder? The blue haired coordinator brought out a handkerchief and covered her mouth and nose.
Meanwhile Mamoswine stomped on the ground to create a small gust of wind to disperse the powder. Looking around, he eventually spotted the culprit watching them from a tree branch while gradually spreading some more powder. It was a Tangela, and if not for Mamoswine's sense of smell, it would have been nearly impossible to identify in the dark forest. Even Mirai's eyes had difficulty spotting it when it began to move to another position.
"This is troublesome Mamo-kun. It seems to be after us too and it's using the trees as cover. I didn't want to disturb the forest too much by using big moves but we can't be too picky about that this time."
"Over there! I see it! Use Blizzard!"
Pointing at a branch northeast from their position, Mamoswine caught sight of the Tangela and with a deep breath buffeted the treetops with his powerful Blizzard. Shivering and almost frozen, the Vine Pokemon dropped to the ground, nearly incapacitated from just that one attack. Mamoswine's Blizzard was a force to be reckoned with. The Twin Tusk Pokemon grunted and snorted. It wasn't much of an opponent once they overcame its trick.
"As much as I'd like to avoid bullying, Tangela did start it. Knock it it out for good measure. Ice Shard!"
Being an easy target now, Mamoswine finished off the Vine Pokemon with the less destructive Ice Shard, pelting it with chunks of ice and incapacitating it for the next few hours.
It wouldn't be long now. Assuming there weren't anymore interruptions, they should reach the edge of the forest in just a few more minutes.

♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Though she was hoping they could avoid doing so, the reality was Mamoswine Blizzard attack caught way too much attention. A certain Pokemon passing by would get annoyed by the sudden gust of cold air in the forest and would make its way to the location of the pair just trying to go back to town. Swinging from a hanging tree vine, a scrappy-looking Nuzleaf landed in Mamoswine's path just as they made a turn, surprising the Twin Tusk Pokemon and causing Mirai to grab on tightly so that she wouldn't lose her balance and fall off.
"Another one huh. You sure are popular today Mamo-kun. Or maybe since it's getting close to nighttime more Pokemon are becoming active. I suppose there's no avoiding this too."
The Nuzleaf launched a preemptive strike, opening the battle with Razor Leaf. Without waiting for Mirai's instructions, Mamoswine intercepted with Blizzard, easily overpowering the attack and blowing the Wily Pokemon back. Nuzleaf looked like it didn't know what hit it as it shivered furiously from the cold and tried to get back into a good position.
"You want to battle by yourself? Alright then."
When the Nuzleaf finally got back up, it retaliated against Mamoswine by firing off Razor Wind a few times in his direction. This time Mamoswine countered with Ancient Power, dispersing the wind blades easily and smashing into the unfortunate Nuzleaf. Type wise it resisted the attack, but there was just too much raw power behind it that even resistance didn't help much. The Wily Pokemon staggered as it just barely clung to consciousness. Seeing this, Mamoswine charged up and launched a second shot of Ancient Power, this time taking Nuzleaf down for good.
"Were you trying to make a point Mamo-kun? I know you know an Ice type attack would have worked much better."
Mamoswine grunted halfheartedly. Perhaps he was trying to say it didn't really matter since it got the job done anyway. Mirai took this as him wanting to just let loose. After all with Mirai on his back, he couldn't use his favorite tackling attacks. It was very considerate of him. The blue haired coordinator gave his head a praising pat. When they got back to town, she would treat him to something nice.
