in the palm of your hands [attr="class","newbg5"] Receiving a S.O.S from the Ranger HQ can be a good thing and a bad thing. For starters the person could be possibly in trouble or injured and the good thing is the Rangers get to show off their amazing skills. In the end Zeref only cares about getting them out of they’re safe and sound without any complications what’s so ever. All he has to do is find their location and do whatever he can to get them back to be they need to be. Think of it like a bodyguard mission he has to protect them while helping them out at the exact same time! [break] [break] In the end, Zeref was excited and ready for this mission! It’ll technically be his first bodyguard mission so he has to do whatever he can to make sure nothing goes wrong! With that being said he’ll have his comrades to help him out on this one. With Parsifal using his nose they should be able to locate their scent while Malice will stay on the lookout. Lancelot and Poseidon will be there for backups just encase Parsifal and Malice has trouble taking down wild type Pokemon. [break] [break] According to the mission, it’s said that Pokemon have been restless recently so he’ll have to keep a look out at all cost! Now all that’s left for him to do is wait for his partner to show up! Zeref stood by the cave with Parsifal the Growlithe standing by his side while Malice the Misdreavus was floating right by him. Zeref never met this person before so it’s going to be quite interesting to see were this leads them. ♦♦♦♦  ♦♦♦♦ It was a random whim. One day while walking past the Ranger HQ, a lady was handing out fliers inviting volunteers to possibly help out with Ranger missions on the occasion. Mirai was new to the region back then and figured it was a good chance to go to places she wouldn't normally be able to under the guise of being a Ranger mission. Of course helping people out was important too. But thinking on it, they probably wouldn't invite civilian volunteers to more dangerous incidents. She figured volunteers would most likely be relegated to being extra hands in a community day event or something. Imagine her surprise when after so long of not getting any calls, her first request was a rescue mission in a cave. She did write that she explored caves and mountains sometimes in the volunteer form. Perhaps for them that was more than enough to count as qualification. She was supposed to meet the Ranger HQ representative at the entrance of the cave before they begin the mission. She was a slightly early from the agreed time but if her partner slash mission leader was serious about his Ranger duties then he should be there already. And there he was, standing by the cave with his partners already out and ready for action. Mirai walked on over to greet him, her own partner Floatzel following closely behind her. "Hello there! I'm Mirai Soleil and I'm here for the volunteer mission. Are you the one in charge? They didn't tell me much what to prepare when they gave me a call so I ended up bringing my own gear. My team's all set and ready to go too. Anything else we need to prepare before we start?"She wondered if she sounded too enthusiastic. She couldn't really help it. Mirai was a perfectionist at heart. Even then she wasn't totally certain that she had prepared enough for today's mission. Hopefully the expert Ranger could fill in the holes she missed. It would be an enlightening experience as well working so closely with a pro. He looked kind of young, but she wasn't about to judge someone's abilities on their age alone. In other words him and his comrades shouldn’t have to worry too much about this mission and the best part is she came with her own gear! “Wow amazing I’m liking you already!” The Ranger said placing a huge smile on his face. “Thank you so much for helping me out on this much appreciated. My name is Zeref Sanders it’s nice to meet you.” Zeref lent out his hand for a handshake. [break] [break] Now then back to normal business he better explain a little bit about the situation to her. “I’ll explain as we go. This cave is pretty dark and Pokemon woke up on the wrong side of the bed so just be prepared if we ever get attacked by wild Pokemon.” Zeref went on ahead but he would look back to make sure that Mirai would follow him. When they got a little deeper into the Cave Zeref finally explained the current situation. [break] [break] “The ranger HQ received a S.O.S apparently a group of travelers got lost in the cave and are low on supplies. Our duty is to get them out of here safe and sound!” The Ranger explained before turning his head to his two companions. “I have two of my well trained Pokemon to help us out. Parsifal the Growlithe will be able to locate their scent while Malice the Misdreavus is our eyes and ears. We should be able to get out of here safely with these two around that’s for sure.” Parsifal ears lifted up after hearing his trainers compliment however he kept his nose locked on the ground as he continued sniffing the area hoping to pick up the travelers scent. [break] [break] Thinking about it now he doesn’t know anything about her and what kind of gear she has. Maybe he should start up a conversation while Parsifal and Malice are doing their job. As much as he would like to get there faster, it’s best to stay calm and go at an evenly pace. He’ll make it there on time with his comrades by his side and if he needs to he’ll have Malice scout on ahead! ♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Zeref introduced himself and Mirai accepted the handshake as he did. He mentioned that he would explain as they went so following his lead, they entered the cave soon after. She took out her flashlight from he bag to help light the way. Zeref described the situation well enough. Some people were lost in the cave and need help evacuating. She wondered though why they needed Pokemon to locate the troubled explorers. If they were able to communicate their S.O.S then wouldn't it possible to lock in their position by tracing the signal back? Unless of course they had already run out of batteries or something. In that case they were fortunate to even manage calling for help before their phones died. The path inside the cave wasn't too difficult to traverse. That was probably what drew in the newbie explorers and tricked them into thinking this would be an easy trek. But just because it was easy to move around in it didn't mean it was easy to navigate. They were barely in there for a few minutes and already Mirai had counted passing by more than five or so side passages and other unexpected turns that probably looked the same to the untrained eye. It did to her. If she neglected paying attention, she would have had difficulty navigating too. Zeref assured that his Pokemon were well equipped for this and could find the poor explorers and get them out. As they moved along, he asked about what she prepared and to talk a little bit more about herself. "Oh, just the basics. A flashlight, a spare lamp, some rope, food, water, a few heat packs, and a small first aid kit. It's not much though as I figured I shouldn't carry anything too heavy. Speed and mobility seemed more important in a rescue."
"I suppose I just made it sound like I'm some sort of caving enthusiast. I'm a Coordinator actually. But I have an interest in ancient things and nature. There's plenty of material to be found visiting natural landmarks and ruins. You just never know those things may come in handy sooner or later. It’s best for him to keep a mental note in his head. However something seemed to have sparked his interest and that happens to be her occupation. She’s a coordinator just like his old friend he hasn’t seen in ages. It makes him wonder if she took part of the recent contest earlier. Zeref couldn’t help but to smile at this. “Just like my old friend huh? She does that kind of stuff as well but I could never get into it since it seems a bit too girly for me sadly enough. I give you guys props for coming up with creative moves like that.” Zeref crossed his arms before continuing his conversation. “And you like ancient stuff huh? Have you been to the Ruins of Alph?” [break] [break] Malice turned her head towards her trainer smiling as she was reminded of her time meeting Zeref in the ruins! As much as she wants to share that moment with Zeref once more it looks like her time has come! Malice called out to Zeref alerting him of the two wild Pokemon appearing from hiding ready to beat down the trespassers. Zeref gave a slow nod before tossing his pokeball into the air sending out his Croconaw. “Poseidon your up this one looks tough so be careful! Mirai maybe we can finish our conversation after this!” Zeref winked however his mind shifted when he realized the Graveler was about to attack Parsifal. “Poseidon protects Parsifal!” [break] [break] Parsifal lowered his head growling at the Graveler as if he was telling him to bring it on however the pup knows darn well he wouldn’t stand a chance against this thing but thankfully Poseidon wasn’t going to let that happen! Poseidon shot out a ray of water straight at the rock type Pokemon and it landed a direct hit! The Graveler stepped backwards glaring down at Poseidon who had lifted up his paw telling him to come at him bro. Parsifal on the other hand gave him a look before giving a thank you nod before running back over to Zeref. The two Pokemon had a staring contest for a little bit until the Graveler decided to make its move! [break] [break] Poseidon jumped into the air to dodge the ROLLOUT attack but while in the air, the alligator flipped over, spun around in circles while using WATER GUN again! The Graveler tried to dodge however because of the wet ground it made the rock type slip over it’s own two feet. Although this was the case the rock type wasn’t going to allow that to slide! It used ROCK POLISH then used ROCK THROW and since Poseidon was in the air he had a difficulty time to dodge the attack! In the end he got hit and landed on the ground! The alligator spun around on the wet ground before landing on his feet to shoot out another WATER GUN and it made another direct hit! The Graveler stepped back refusing to back down and had tried to use ROLLOUT one more time! [break] [break] Seeing this coming, Poseidon shot WATER GUN onto the ground to push himself into the air however he wasn’t going to allow himself to fall for the same trick like last time! He did a backflip to dodge the ROCK THROW and then shot out WATER GUN causing the Graveler to faint right then and there! ♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Girly? That was an unusual prejudice in Mirai's opinion. There were plenty of top Coordinators who were men and even in the last Contest the top contenders were split 50/50 between the two genders. Perhaps this was due to the reputation of this region's Contest Queen being the most famous name around.
"It would probably be more accurate to say it's for those with artistic sense. Cute and pretty is just one among many themes. I personally prefer cool and mystifying performances. Those shows that invoke awe and wonder are a real treat to see."When Zeref mentioned the Ruins of Alph, her reaction was a bit more positive. "Oh it was definitely near the top of my list of places to visit in the region. The puzzles were particularly fascinating. I even had a run in with the local Unown."As they continued to make their way through the cave, their chat had to be cut short with the appearance of the rumored restless Pokemon. Towering above them, an irate Onix was glaring down on her and her partner and it didn't look like it would let them go without a fight. This wouldn't be the first time Mirai and Floatzel would have dealt with something like the Rock Snake Pokemon. Exploring caves carried this sort of hazard quite often. A less experienced trainer would have been intimidated by its size alone but the Sea Weasel Pokemon wasn't the least bit fazed. "Floatzel-kun, Whirlpool!"The trouble with Onix was that its huge body made most people underestimate its speed. There was nothing more troublesome than a Pokemon of that size slithering about the cavern or digging deep underground and causing quakes. Restricting its movements was thus a priority. Conjuring a Whirlpool even bigger than the Rock Snake Pokemon, Floatzel was on top of executing Mirai's strategy. The Onix winced in pain as the spiraling torrent slammed into it, trapping it and hindering its vision. Contact with the Whirlpool was hurting it so Mirai felt that they were able to seal its physical moves pretty well. At least that was what she thought, until it suddenly began charging up something from its mouth. It exhaled a greenish flame to try and break free from the Whirlpool. Though it wasn't strong enough to do so, it did weaken it a bit. "Onix doesn't learn Fire type attacks. That was likely Dragon Breath, though it's my first time seeing one from this Pokemon. Let's not give it further chances to use it again Floatzel-kun! Reinforce Whirlpool, then finish it off with Aqua Jet!"Nodding, the Sea Weasel Pokemon conjured a second Whirlpool that merged and combined with the first, putting a bigger squeeze on Onix whose health was rapidly being chipped away at by the water. Then, surrounding herself with a current of water, Floatzel propelled herself at high speed into the Whirlpool, using the spiraling water to gather even more speed while making her movements impossible to track for the trapped Rock Snake Pokemon. Once she felt she had built up enough power, she made a sudden turn and slammed hard at Onix from an angle under its head. The point of impact was its exposed chin and the force of the water-charged blow caused it to collapse on the cave floor after the well-placed hit. Seeing that Onix was down, Floatzel canceled her Whirlpool and returned to Mirai's side, looking pleased with her relatively easy win. "If it's just going to be Rock-types crawling around in here, then there shouldn't be any problems. They're quite sturdy but I don't think they're at a level where they can overpower Floatzel-kun."It appeared Zeref was finished with his own battle as well so they could finally proceed with the rescue. If only Lancelot could come out and enjoy the fun but he feels as if the psychic type Pokemon wouldn’t stand that much of a chance against these guys. Well he’ll get her caught up eventually its just going to take some time. “Well since we have a little bit of time I guess it’s my turn huh? I’m a bodyguard in training but I’m also a part time Ranger.” He explained before turning his gaze towards the path that leads before them. “I plan on becoming the best bodyguard I can but I know that’s going to be tricky. Anyways it looks like we have some company so be prepared. I’ll take down the Donphan but be careful with that Gravler. That one looks oddly different for some reason.” [break] [break] Since him and his partner took down a Gravler earlier, Zeref knew darn well this one looks different compared to the other one. It had some weird markings on it and yet the Ranger couldn’t help but to bite his lip knowing darn well his Pokemon aren’t at that level yet but he knows he’ll get there sooner or later. “Poseidon let’s take care of that Donphan!’ Zeref said as Poseidon jumped in front of his trainer lifting up his chest ready to take on the ground type Pokemon. “I’m leaving this one to you I’ll back you up for support if needed!” [break] [break] This should be a piece of cake according to Poseidon however something was oddly off. The Donphan came right at him ready to attack the alligator but there was something odd about his teeth. The alligator couldn’t figure it out until Zeref kicked into play. “GET OUT OF THERE ITS USING THUNDER FANG!” Wait what did his trainer say? Poseidon tried to dodge the attack but the Donphan was able to sink its teeth into Poseidon’s tail causing the alligator to squeal from pain. It tossed the Donphan out the way before stepping back growling at the ground type Pokemon. “Shit.” Zeref cursed. “So the other one must have some sort of electric move up it’s sleeve. Be careful Mirai since that Gravler is different it might know an electric move.” He warned her before turning back to the battlefield. “Listen up Poseidon I’ll warn you if its going to use Thunder Fang again. I know you can kick this Donphan’s ass!”[break] [break] No kidding that was a huge shock right there and Poseidon had to shake his head to snap himself back into reality. When the Donphan came rushing at him again the alligator waited patiently for his trainer for the warning. “False alarm its using FIRE FANG!” Poseidon jumped to the side then shot out a beam of water right at the Donphan using the move WATER GUN and it landed a hit! The Donphan took some major damage but if Poseidon uses Water Gun twice then it’s over for the Donphan. The Donpahn turned around rushing forward to use HORN ATTACK but once more Poseidon was able to dodge the attack and use another WATER GUN! That time it landed which means one more than it’s done. It was coming at him again and Zeref lifted up his head before calling out to his partner. “THUNDER FANG AGAIN!”[break] [break] Poseidon did a backflip to dodge the attack then used another WATER GUN to knock it out! ♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Being the leader for this mission, Zeref was obviously a Ranger. But it was interesting to know that he was mainly working on being a bodyguard, though he didn't say for whom. Most people who aimed to be protectors do so with a target for protection already in mind. The rest follow that path out of admiration for someone with the same profession or due to the wishes of another. Whatever the case, it wasn't a common path people take and that was enough to pique her curiosity. As she continued to listen, their next interruption would appear in the form of a Donphan and a Graveler. As the bodyguard-to-be duly noted, this wasn't your typical Graveler although judging from his reaction, it was his first time seeing this variant. Mirai on the other hand was more well-versed with different Pokemon species. While this would also be her first time seeing one in the flesh, the wild Pokemon that appeared was distinct enough for her to identify it as that of the Alolan region variety. Heaven knows what it was doing all the way in Johto though. "Not a bad deduction honestly. Your instincts are quite good Mr. Zeref. This is in fact a different region form of Graveler that is capable of using electric type moves. That being said, I don't think there's any merit in needlessly putting my partner in danger of taking a super effective attack. After all, safety and efficiency is key to this mission."
"Roselia-kun, I need your assistance!"Tossing up one of her Pokeballs, the Thorn Pokemon appeared in a flash of light, ready to face her opponent. Floatzel gestured to her that she was leaving it in her hands and Roselia nodded in response. Seeing the new arrival, Graveler decided to take the initiative and run forward, charging one of its fists with electricity. "Leech Seed Roselia-kun! Halt its advance!"Taking aim with one of her flowers, Roselia shot a small seed at the Rock Pokemon's foot that almost immediately sprouted into vines on contact. The vines wrapped around Graveler's legs, tripping it before it could get close enough to execute its Thunder Punch. It struggled to break free from the vines, but its energy being drained by the same made it difficult to even move. "Follow up with Giga Drain! Let's slowly tire it out!"Green tendrils of energy erupted from Roselia's flowers and latched on to Graveler, draining a large chunk of its energy and causing its struggle to lessen due to fatigue. Desperate and sensing that it was fighting a losing battle, tiny beams of light suddenly began to appear from the cracks in its body as though it was preparing for a big attack. Mirai recognized this as the prelude to a Self Destruct or Explosion attack. She definitely couldn't allow that to happen lest they cause another accident in the cave. "Stop it Roselia-kun! Grass Whistle!"Putting one of her flowers near her mouth, Roselia began to blow and play a mesmerizing melody that lulled the Graveler to sleep, its eyes shutting close before it could finish executing its suicide attack. Once the Rock Pokemon was fast asleep, Roselia hit it with yet another Giga Drain to ensure it would be incapacitated for a long while and not wake up on them. The last move was a milestone for Mirai was the Thorn Pokemon actually acted on her own judgment without her trainer telling her so. A big step forward in the Coordinator's eyes for her newest recruit. "Whew, that would have been bad if it managed to explode. So the Graveler she was fighting was from a different region that’s quite incredible but the real question is how the hell did it end up here out of all places? Zeref tapped his chin at this trying to figure out exactly what was going on but in all honesty there was no point in trying to figure this out. Zeref shrugged his shoulders before turning his gaze to check his surroundings. [break][break] “It looks like they’ve died down for now so we must be getting close.” The Ranger crossed his arms giving a slow nod. “If that’s the case than Malice you know what to do but be careful!” He turned his head over to Malice giving her a slow nod as he watched his partner dive deeper into the cave. Zeref would turn his gaze over to Mirai with his hand on his hip. “We should get going! Malice will alert us if she notices anything. We’ll continue on for the time being.”[break][break] On the other hand it looks like Parsifal got something! The Ranger bent down right next to his Growlithe. “You got something?” Parsifal turned his head giving a slow nod. “Great it looks like Parsifal picked up their scent. Parsifal lead us the way!” All you could see was his tail wagging as Parsifal charged ahead causing Zeref to quickly chase after him. “Not that far ahead!” The Ranger laughed before turning his gaze to keep an eye on his comrade. “Let’s try not to get lost down here but if we do I’ll make sure to find yeah in a heartbeat!” [break][break] The ginger head would lift up his hand giving her thumbs up. “I’m pretty observant and have a decent tracking team. ♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Finally they were getting somewhere. Zeref's Pokemon appeared to have picked up on the trail of the stranded explorers. It would only be a matter of time before they made contact. As his two Pokemon went on ahead, he picked up the pace right after them. Mirai was no slouch in the physical department and for the most part was able to keep up with the dash, though she wasn't exactly sure that running inside a cave was safe. Perhaps he was just used to this sort of thing as a ranger. Personally she never found a reason to tempt fate like that. She much preferred to take greater care when traversing caverns. Hopefully they'd slow down soon to a more reasonable speed. She listened as he spoke about his own troubles with his team. No team was perfect after all. Even Mirai encountered challenges with raising her partners. "Ah yes, opposing types can be a problem sometimes. Though in my experience it's really more of a matter of attitude. When Pokemon respect each other's space, even Fire and Water types can get along."He asked about showing him some moves some time since it seemed his partner Pokemon had some interest in dancing.
"I'd love to. Although I'm not sure if I can give a good example. Dancing can be rather unique to certain Pokemon. It might actually be a better idea for me to take you to see a Contest some time. I know you mentioned they weren't your thing, but I once met someone who watched Contests just for the battle portion. Coordinators bring out the potential of moves in ways you won't find in your typical Pokemon battle. I can imagine as a Ranger you do a lot of battling. I can guarantee you'll find something useful if you give it a chance." Behind Mirai, Floatzel was having no trouble with the quickened pace. Zeref crossed his arms looking down at his two comrades wondering what their deal is. He shook his head at this before turning around to face them. “You two when are you guys going to get along?” The Ranger sighed with his hand on his forehead. “You derp heads we need to continue down this path we’re wasting too much time.”[break][break] It looks like things are turning upside down right when he mentioned running out of time. The Ranger looked down at his feet feeling the rumble of the hungry earth ready to chow them down into tiny little pieces. The ginger head knew he didn’t even need to look up at the ceiling to realize what’s happening! Thinking fast, Zeref turned around to push Mirai out of the way to avoid being turned into a flat sandwich! The bodyguard would fall flat on his ass as he watched the cave collapse right in front of them! [break][break] Moaning underneath his breath, Zeref slowly lifted himself upward. With the help of his Pokemon he was able to get back on his feet placing his hands on the wall of rocks that lay before him. “SHIT!” Zeref cried out. “Mirai are you okay?” The Ranger shouted once more hoping she would hear his call however it looks like that’s going have to be put on hold! With a sharp turn Zeref noticed an Onix revealing itself from behind “Seriously I don’t have time for this!” Zeref snapped and the moment he did, Poseidon jumped right in front of his trainer spouting out a WATER GUN straight towards the Onix creature! [break][break] Leaving this to his Croconaw, Zeref lifted up hand to blow a whistle hoping his Misdreavus would pick up the sound! After a few seconds later, Malice appeared right next to Zeref causing the Ranger to nod his head at his ghost friend. “Go check on Mirai and if she needs help do whatever you can to help her out. Help her find another route as fast as you can. We need to regroup as soon as possible!” Regrouping is the first step but now that their exit has been blocked off, it looks like they have no choice but to find another route. With Malice help they should be able to do something about it! [break][break] Malice gave a slow nod as she faded right through the walls heading straight towards Mirai while Zeref on the other hand turned around to the wild type Pokemon. So far it looks as if Poseidon has dealt a lot of damage to the creature, as it is which works out perfectly heck the Ranger wouldn’t be surprised if this last shot will knock it out that’s for sure! “WATER GUN!” Zeref cried as Poseidon jumped into the air shooting out a ray of water straight at the creature knocking it out right then and there! “Great but we need to keep moving! Mirai might be in trouble so let’s find another route as quickly as we can!” Zeref explained before turning his head to the rocks behind him. “Mirai I’m going to find another route! ♦♦♦♦ ♦♦♦♦ Their relatively peaceful trek through the cave wold be interrupted by a sudden cave in. Floatzel was the first to notice and called Mirai's attention to get out of the way. Before she could do so however, Zeref's ranger instincts proved to be just a bit faster. The last thing she felt was being pushed out of the way before rocks and things came crashing down, separating the two. When the cave in was over, Mirai could hear Zeref's shouts from the other side as his Misdreavous appeared from behind the fallen rocks presumably to check on her. She coughed a bit as she accidentally inhaled some dust stirred up by the rocks but other than that it seemed she managed to avoid getting any injuries. She briefly gave the Ghost Pokemon a thumbs up signaling that she was okay as she couldn't quite talk yet. From Zeref's words, it sounded like he was fine on the other side too which was a small relief. If they were both in decent condition then they should be able to meet up again later on. A sudden rumbling noise however would remind Mirai that she wasn't out of the woods yet. Perhaps drawn by the commotion of the cave in a wild Graveler showed up at the scene, stomping forward. It must have been another one of those irritable Pokemon that Zeref mentioned earlier. As soon as it laid eyes on the Coordinator's party, it let out an angry grunt, looking for a fight. Unlike the last one they saw, this Graveler appeared to be the regular variant again. Before she could issue orders to anyone, it was Roselia who would step forward first between her and the Rock Pokemon. Mirai didn't mind. The Thorn Pokemon could use this training and she was rather irritated herself from some of the dust getting on her from that accident. "This one should be easier to deal with with twice the advantage. Leech Seed followed by Giga Drain!"Roselia fired of a seed that wrapped up the rampaging Graveler in vines as soon as the seed made contact. Restrained and having difficulty moving, the Rock Pokemon resorted to rolling but green tendrils of energy suddenly zapped it and drained its energy. The Graveler stopped in its tracks, groggy and weakened. A second zap would completely drain it, leaving it unconscious on the cave floor.
"Good work Roselia-kun. You're getting better and better."With the threat dealt with, Mirai turned her attention to Zeref's Misdreavous. "I know Zeref shouted about meeting up again, but seeing that cave in made me realize that the lost explorers might be in greater danger than we thought. If you know where they are, we should prioritize getting to them first. Depending on the situation, we can wait for Zeref to make it there too, or begin guiding the explorers out and just meeting Zeref along the way."
