The weather was warm but bearable. It gave Jenna the chance to dress comfortably as she followed after Oswald and his entire team.[break][break] “Tink's doing alright.” Jenna announced as she peeled the skin away from one of the berries they had bought for lunch. As Oswald kept feeding his Noibat, she figured she'd pitch in and put her swiss army knife to use. The juices were already starting to stain her fingers, but the Ranger didn't care as she passed a slice to his hesitant Noibat. “Seems like she has a soft spot for me. Don't know why.” Mentioning the demonic togepi always seemed to make Oswald cringe; remembering the hell that the small fairy type had put him through.[break][break] The girl couldn't suppress the small laugh that escaped her lips, wondering why he had thought it best to send that pokemon to her, of all people. “I just wish she could stop with the constant abuse of Metronome. If I let her out of her pokeball, it's like I have to hold her hands the entire time.” Yesterday, the small egg-pokemon had thrown a fit because there was a berry on a tree that she couldn't reach. What was her solution? Fire Blast.[break][break] Jenna pinched the bridge of her nose at that memory.[break][break] Prick trained next to her, silent but content. Despite being surrounded by someone's pokemon, he was behaving. Maybe it was because he didn't feel the need to prove himself... or maybe he was just waiting for an actual fight to come along. | Oswald didn’t even know it was possible for that Togepi to have a soft side. But he supposed that there are layers to everyone and having this bias against the Togepi wasn’t going to help anything.
In all fairness Oswald believed that his skepticism was well placed and he all the reason in the world to think that the Togepi was evil incarnate but if she was getting along well with Jenna then it was alright. He was going to feel terrible if the Ranger had to deal with the stuff that he had to deal with, the thought made him shudder.
”Yeah that sounds about right.” Oswald replied, trying to avoid the conversation as much as he could as to not have to explain why he gave her the Togepi in the first place. If she knew the actual reason as to why then Oswald wouldn’t be surprised if she got mad at him for it.
Giving someone a Pokémon that you knew had anger issues and liked to lash out without saying anything about was kind of a dick move but he figured that she would deal with it better, and besides, Oswald was pretty certain that she wanted a Togepi.
It was nice that for the most part his and her Pokémon were getting along, or at least not bickering and fighting amongst each other. But it seemed that their play time had attracted some attention of two nearby Pokémon who looked like they wanted to enjoy in on the fun.
And by that Oswald meant that they looked like they were looking for a fight and they were going to get one. The first one to approach was a Pikachu, one that decided it’d be a smart idea to pick on Oswald’s Ralts. The Drilbur that had been playing with the Ralts didn’t take too kindly to that.
”Oh man this isn’t going to end well.” Oz got up from where he was and headed over to the Drilbur and Pikachu. Once the Drilbur got mad there wasn’t much stopping her from taking apart whatever it was that was unfortunate enough to piss her off.
The mean mug the Drilbur was giving the Pikachu freaked it out so the mouse attacked with Thunder Shock and was quickly horrified to see that its attack did nothing but aggravate the Drilbur even more. In response to the Thunder Shock the mole used Drill Run which was a new attack for the Drilbur.
Oswald winced as the attack hit, looked like it hurt like hell for the Pikachu. That’s why he didn’t think this was going to end well, the Pikachu had no real way of attacking the Drilbur.
Oswald was pretty sure that if he left the Drilbur alone she’d be able to take down the Pikachu on her own. And he was pretty right on the mark there as the Drilbur was free to Drill Run until the Pikachu went down. The trainer felt a bit bad, the poor mouse really didn’t have any way to fight back against the Drilbur.
Once the fight was over Terra let out a small huff and then checked on the Ralts, who appreciated the help quite a bit. The interaction between the two was rather cute and one that Oswald wanted to get a picture of it. Was rare seeing the Drilbur so concerned about someone else the way it was for Gawain.

Type advantage and strategy had allowed the Mole the chance to run circles around her opponent. The sight made Jenna crack a smile, knowing that her old pokemon had changed under Oswald's leadership. “She's gotten stronger.”[break][break] And then her opponent stepped forward. The Electibuzz. Prick had seemed eager to claim this battle for himself, but Jenna raised a hand to stop him. “You're not a ground-type, yet.” There was no reason to send him into a fight unless he had an advantage. He understood, but that didn't stop him from releasing a low growl of frustration. Evolution had become a touchy subject for the both of them.[break][break] Jenna let her hand fall to her waist, pulling out a pokemon that Oswald hadn't met. “Coulter.” She chucked her pokeball, releasing the Quilladin who looked far more interested in exploring the Park than the opponent in front of him. “Use Mud Shot.” He glanced back to her, asking with his eyes if he really had to do this–[break][break] That was when Electibuzz used Quick Attack and socked Coulter straight across the face.[break][break] Prick let out a sound that was close to a chuckle, struggling to hide his amusement. The Quilladin and Nidorino were... “rivals.” Jenna nudged Prick, trying to discourage that behavior, but it only made him laugh harder. Like a mother that was fed up, Jenna could only sigh and pinch the bridge of her nose.[break][break] After taking a punch to the face, Coulter was far more willing to fight. Basing his foe with the back of his arm, he forced his quills to rise to the surface, creating a complex network of needles. Holding it out as if it were a weapon, he charged back, swinging towards the Electibuzz with Needle Arm. The attack connected, pushing the Electric-Type back even further.[break][break] The wild pokemon held out its hand, allowing energy to collect as it prepared to use Electroball.[break][break] Coulter countered with Mud Shot, finally listening to his Trainer's commands. For a moment, it seemed as if the two moves were going to collide –but they didn't.[break][break] When Electroball was launched, Coulter tanked through the attack before chucking his attack, allowing it to smash straight against his enemy. The loud smack told Jenna the results before the Electibuzz collapsed to the ground, unconscious. “See? | Oswald hadn’t expected that Jenna had a Quiladin in her possession; he’d have to ask how she ended up with such a Pokémon on her team. If she found it somewhere in the region then that begged the question of where and the how or why was something that neither of them could probably answer.
It’d just be another mystery provided by the wondrous Johto but it was neat to add yet another Pokémon on the list of “you definitely aren’t from here”, and it was quite the growing list too. And another Pokémon native to Kalos, that was nice.
Their battle was successful, even if it was a bit rocky, and it looked like they were in the clear for a moment. Oswald took this moment to go check up on the Drilbur and Ralts, making sure everything was alright. ”You did a good job out there. Thanks for watching Gawain’s back.” Oswald flashed the Drilbur a big smile as he pet the little mole.
The Drilbur showed a lot of potential to be quite the powerful contender. Not only did she have the moxie for it but she was had natural talent for fighting despite her at times inclination to do anything but that.
And of course this battle had drawn the attention of two more Pokémon. At least that’s what Oswald thought at first and was thrown off to see an Electrike chasing after a Voltorb, only stopping when it noticed the group.
The Electrike was eyeing Terra, a good way to start a fight. And the Electrike was the first to make a move, using Quick Attack and tackling into the Drilbur it was staring down. Terra was beyond pissed now and the Electrike was going to regret starting a fight with her. All Oswald could really do was sigh cause he knew what was about to happen.
The Drilbur responded with a Drill Run, the spinning Pokémon crashed into the Electrike sending it flying. ”Poor thing doesn’t stand a chance really.” Oswald shook his head before shrugging; there wasn’t much he could do about it. The Lightning Pokémon picked itself slowly up off the ground, regretting picking a fight with the Drilbur now.
Had it any idea how much of a bad this match up was it’d probably have tried to pick a fight with the Ralts next to Terra or just go on about its business. But it was a stubborn Pokémon and went back for more.
And again it was met with a Drill Run and this one kept the Electrike down. ”Alright well let’s hope that no one else is dumb enough to pick a fight with you.” Oswald said, chuckling a bit. The Drilbur had let out a huff before returning back to where she was, clearly annoyed at the audacity of the Electrike to so brazenly attack her.
It was weird how ballsy some Pokémon would get at times. Probably had nothing to really do with anything but he still thought it was interesting, especially in situations where they had to know they were about to lose.

When the battle concluded, it seemed like it would have ended, but then Coulter turned to look back at Jenna and her Nidoran with a swollen face from the punch. That set him off again. “Prick, really?” The Nidorino collapsed to the ground, rolled onto his side, trying to stop his fits of giggles. Coulter was sporting a nasty knot on his forehead... but he looked fine, pardoning the expression that crossed his face.[break][break] He got his revenge by standing next to the two of them, flicking off the remaining mud from his Mud Shot right onto Prick's clean, purple spikes.[break][break] Typical rivals. Typical boys. They would always try to spurn the other. Jenna sensed that it came from a place of caring... sometimes. “No. Don't even think about it.” She announced to the two of them, sensing that they were both gearing up for a fight. Coulter had his vine whips extended and Prick had started to secrete poison from his horn–two bad signs. “We're in public. Can you two please play nice?” She shot Oswald a look, asking if he had two troublemakers like this.[break][break] They both grumbled under their breath in agreement, sensing that their Ranger was getting ready to snag them both by the ears and drag them away if they didn't.[break][break] Thankfully, the perfect distraction came along. Jenna gazed upon one of the two wild pokemon, the Voltorb, and signaled to Oswald that she'd take care of it. Drillbur had her own battle to contend with. “Come on, Coulter. This one's got your name written on it.” He huffed, trying to act like he wasn't interested... but accepted the challenge.[break][break] Spinning rapidly in place, the Voltorb was gearing up to start the fight with a rollout. To the wild pokemon, it may have seemed like a good idea. It unknowingly geared for the attack, unable to watch Coulter drag forward the two vine whips he had extended. Jenna watched without uttering a word, knowing what the grass pokemon had planned.[break][break] When the attack released, all Coulter had to do was step aside... but his vines had been entangled with each other, creating a hastily assembled net.[break][break] The moment the rollout struck against it, his whips managed to catch the spinning Voltorb like catching a ball with a glove. One hard spin tore the electric-type from the ground, spinning it like a stone caught in a sling.[break][break] And With one heavy foot planted down to the ground, Coulter released his vine whips, flinging the Voltorb clear across the clearing. It wasn't a soft landing. The Voltorb crashed and bounced against the ground, rendering itself unconscious.[break][break] Coulter, slightly dizzy from the spin, shot Prick a shit-eating grin. | Oswald had noticed the bickering that was going between two of Jenna’s Pokémon. He definitely felt her pain as there were plenty of times where Oswald had to break up his own Pokémon. Siren didn’t seem to like to be around anyone and only liked being around Sol.
Terra and Kite were constantly fighting, the only thing distracting them from it was Terra’s babysitting of Gawain. The only consistent shit stirrer was Watts, and it often blew up in his face so it wasn’t all that bad. The Pikachu liked to start trouble but never following through with it much.
”Don’t even get me started.” Oswald laughed in response to the look that Jenna had given him. It seemed like everything had calmed down but Oswald had this suspicion that there’d be at least one more encounter before it was over. Almost as if the universe itself heard the boy another Pokémon had made itself known.
Something had jumped onto his back and at first Oswald believed it was his Pikachu but seeing his Pikachu in front of him definitely worried him at first. Before he could really check what was on him his Drilbur came to his aid and smacked it off.
Turning to face his clinger he was almost not surprised to see it was a Pachirisu that had clung to his back. The little squirrel was what Oswald could only describe as giggling, having fun messing with the boy and his Pokémon.
Terra didn’t take to kindly to the Pachirisu’s shenanigans, nominating herself to teach the Pokémon a lesson. ”Don’t be too rough with it; don’t think it stands much of a chance.” The Drilbur nodded and the proceeded to use Drill Run. Surprisingly the Pachirisu was able to take the attack and not go down, it had used endure.
It was just delaying the inevitable as it was at a terrible disadvantage facing the Drilbur. Oswald doubted that it would be able to take another hit from Drill Run, the squirrel looked liked it was regretting what it had done.
”Alright, let’s finish this up.” Oswald spoke, his Drilbur nodding her head in agreement as she then charged forward, her body spinning like a drill and crashing into the Squirrel. The poor electric type went flying; the battle was now definitely over. Terra scoffed, turning back to the group and heading to where she had been before fighting the Pachirisu.

They wanted to investigate and see why a Voltorb had just been chucked clear across the park. “You alright?” The Quilladin was still dizzy after that toss. He spun too much to pick up the right amount of momentum. Coulter slapped his face, trying to stop the world from spinning. “Next time, I would tone it down. Just a bit.”[break][break] Prick was still amused, sitting down onto the ground as he watched the grass-type prepare for the next battle. After this, Jenna hoped everything could settle down.[break][break] Oswald and Drillbur had claimed the small squirrel as their target. That meant the Luxio would be hers. “Well, not the first time we've faced one of these.” Coulter nodded, stabilizing his stance. He knew what to do. Electric-types had a hard time piercing through the thick hide of his shell.[break][break] Without hesitation, he charged down his opponent, preparing to use Mud Shot. The Luxio was surprised by the sudden burst of speed from the round pokemon, but made the mistake of trying to meet the attack head-on: Spark verse Mud Shot. Jenna knew the results the moment the blue feline started to glow with an electric energy.[break][break] He one-shotted the Luxio. Without a moment of hesitation, he delivered the full force of his attack while enduring the brunt of the other. The feline was knocked clean to the ground. Jenna knew it was unconscious just from the sound. “You've really improved–”[break][break] Her voice stopped. Coulter was glowing. He was evolving. Jenna felt her eyes fixated on the glowing light, not noticing the way Prick seemed to spring to his feet from surprise.[break][break] He doubled in size. The small, round Quilladin was replaced. Long arms. Spikes. Coulter turned to glance back at Jenna when the light faded, equally surprised by the transformation. Even his face was different... but the smile was the same. The browns and greens had been replaced by colors that were more mature. The shell that had encased him now adorned the back of his shoulders like a shell–no, like a cape.[break][break] Jenna could only sigh, opening up her arms. He charged, scooping his Ranger into a hug, swinging her legs up from the ground.
