It was the funniest thing! She would push her nose into a clump of snow, snort, the snow would fly everywhere, and then she'd try to capture the snow in her jaws by chomping at it. Natalia's laughter wasn't enough to rattle the walls of the cave, but it would alert others that she and her Houndour were in the cave. Not that Houndour's chomps with her teeth wouldn't alert people themselves. Quite a powerful jaw, that little four-legged fire-dark pup.[break][break] " What are you expecting it to do?" Natalia bent down to gather some of the snow in her hands. She didn't form a snowball but instead began sprinkling it over Houndour's head. Houndour quickly used her jaw to chomp at the snow that fell. She ended up on her hind legs, causing Natalia to giggle. Her trainer's giggles had the Houndour leaping onto her trainer and beginning to lick her mercilessly while wagging her small pointed nub of a tail.[break][break] The pounce knocked Natalia flat onto her rump with her legs flying into the air. A fit of laughter echoed through the cave. Times like this reminded Natalia that not everything about a region in pain had to be painful.  | This was going to be the last time Akira decided to take a job from some whacky scientist who he didn’t even know. But the money was going to be nice and Akira wasn’t in a situation where he could just say no to money.
If he had put more thought into what it was exactly the guy was asking him to do he probably would have said no but he was here now and there wasn’t much he could do about it. Whinning about it wasn’t going to get it done any faster, and maybe he could get some training in.
The job was rather simple in concept, go to the Ice Path and record some of the changes made in the area, the Pokémon, the current state of the cave, things of that nature.
Akira was going to tell the guy to shove it and go do it himself but the money he offered along with the explanation of not having any Pokémon to protect him while he was out there was enough for Akira to reconsider. He felt like an idiot because he had to go extremely out of his way to make it here but he supposed it was nice to go somewhere he really hadn’t before.
Much to his surprise there was someone already here. A woman playing with her Houndour, not a sight he expected to see but alright. He didn’t want to get involved in whatever was happening and ruin their fun but they were sort of in his way. There was something about this woman that was a bit familiar to him but he couldn’t exactly put his finger on it.
”Looks like you two are having a lot of fun.” Akira didn’t really care; he was just trying to get their attention so they’d eventually move. He didn’t want to have to worry about people being around while he worked, who knows what might pop up and attack.

She got up, leaning up to hold Houndour in her lap as the warm pup licked Natalia's face and wagged her stubby tail in pleased contentment.[break][break] " I'm sorry, she gets very carried away." Natalia explained while standing up. " Honestly I didn't expect her to love the snow as much as she does." Natalia's tone said she wasn't the least bit upset by it. The opposite, in fact. She enjoyed learning new things about her adorable little fire-dark pup![break][break] After giving Houndour a scratch or two, Natalia placed her pup down on the ground to go explore and play. She stood up and moved her hair out of her face, raking her fingers through her blonde curls while her free hand took to resting on her hip as she looked the newcomer up and down. " What're-"[break][break] Before she could get her next words out, there was a small rustle in the rocks beside them. Natalia's curiosity had her turn to take a look, in sync with her Houndour who's ears perked and tail wagged, happy to seek what was causing the noise. With a HOWL, Houndour pounced into the rocks. Much to her surprise, a Numel was within the rocks. A burst of EMBERs came from its mouth to hit the Houndour that had pounced onto his hump.[break][break] " Oops..." Natalia gave a light giggle. " Hunny, you can't keep meeting other Pokemon like this..." They all reacted so negatively to the Houndour's usual pep.[break][break] Houndour's offended snort was followed with a jaw glowing BITE to the Numel's neck. With a cry of pain, the Numel turned slowly and concentrated his power into his shoulder, rubbing the Houndour into the rocks around him to get the damned thing off of him. Once that muzzle let go of his neck, the Numel took the effort to TACKLE the Houndour.[break][break] Knowing that long distance wouldn't help her, Houndour remained close and took the hit with a small grunt. She used her glowing teeth once again to BITE down on the Numel's neck, shaking herself and using the Numel's hide as a chew toy.[break][break] " C'mon now, leave the poor thing alone. You're the one who jumped into their home in the first place." Without much fear of being bitten or burned by either Pokemon, Natalia closed the distance between them and rescued the Numel by picking up her Houndour and beginning to pet her.[break][break] The Numel crawled further into the rocks, snorting as his defeated form moved back into the rocks. He hadn't had enough to eat that day to deal with such a rambunctious woman and her dumb mutt.[break][break] Happily, in her trainer's arms, Houndour wiggled and writhed before her ears perked up and she listened to the Numel slink away. She'd won that battle, and pride filled her chest as she wiggled more until Natalia set her down. | Akira wasn’t much of a small talker and regretted being the one to initiate the conversation but it didn’t seem like he had much of a choice. He only grunted in response, carrying on with what he was here to do. The only thing that had distracted him from that was the Houndour and whatever was making some sound nearby.
He had reached for a pokeball, ready to send one of his own to investigate the sound but the Houndour beat him to it. Curious, Akira moved his hand away from the capsules; he wanted to watch how this was going to play out.
A Houndour against a Numel was an interesting pair up, and he’d get to see how the woman handled her battles. The fight looked pretty one sided and the Houndour fought on its own mostly, its high energy seemed like a lot to handle.
The Pokémon seemed relatively new to battling and judging by the woman’s interaction with the Pokémon the dark fire Pokémon had a lot of training to do. Akira wasn’t going to think much of it, it wasn’t his business to begin with and as long as the Houndour didn’t get him in any trouble the ranger didn’t care too much what it did.
He’d go on about his business if it wasn’t for the fact that the Houndour started to bark. A Magby had appeared, wanting revenge on the Houndour for what it did to the Numel from a moment ago. Akira sighed, the Pokémon was clearly weak but it’d be a nuisance if he just let it throw a tantrum.
The ranger let out his trusty Growlithe, the pup having been resting for quite some time now. While it wouldn’t be much of a fight, being able to stretch your legs would be good for the Growlithe. Pro would just have to go a bit easy on the little guy.
”Alright, let’s make this quick but don’t be too hard on it.” Akira then went to recording this encounter. It was most certainly odd to run into wild fire Pokémon in the Ice Path. He had heard about these things but he hadn’t seen it firsthand.
Prometheus nodded, making his way to face the Magby. The Magby let out an ember attack, which didn’t do too much to the Growlithe who responded with a Take Down. The attack pretty much took out the Magby which now with that problem solved Akira can get back to work. ”There will probably be more.” The ranger said to the woman. There was always more.

Why did the little cuties feel the need to get involved? Houndour watched the battle with practically sparkling eyes. After the battle, she moved a few steps toward the Growlithe just to see if maybe he wanted to play? Wasn't that all anybody ever wanted to do?[break][break] " Sweets," Natalia bent down to stop her Houndour, grabbing her around the chest and pulling her back to be between her legs and within her hold. " His trainer seems busy. Let's leave them be, hm?" She smiled up at the dark haired man and gave a smile, but then noticed that he was making records. She was curious as to why but decided to hold her curiosity back for the moment. " Sorry about getting in-"[break][break] Howling echoed through the caves and Houndour's ears perked right up. She huffed a few barks through her closed muzzle. " Oh, we'd know that howl anywhere." Natalia's hands moved over Houndour to try and calm her. She looked toward the dark-haired man and stood up, confidence in her stance and a smile on her face as she moved her hair. " We'll separate one of them, but there is no telling if there'll be more than one." She warned, unsure if the man was familiar with the pack movements of the Houndours.[break][break] Natalia's own Houndour's hair bristled and she HOWLed through the cave as a warning. Yet another round of howl's moved through the cave. Natalia's Houndour stepped away from her trainer cautiously, moving slowly toward the direction of the most recent HOWL. As the sounds echoed through the cave, Natalia gave a snap of her fingers. It was a trick she'd been working on with Houndour, a sort of code so that they wouldn't have to communicate verbally during battles that Natalia wanted a hand in.[break][break] Hearing the snap, Houndour immediately bound toward the sound and let out a SMOG from her mouth. The two dark shadows jumped out, but Natalia was focused on the shadow that had jumped into the fog with her Houndour. Out of habit, Natalia raised her hand up to cover her mouth with her shirt so the fog didn't bother her too much. Natalia let out a whistle and with that simple command her Houndour rushed the wild dual type and with glowing teeth managed to BITE down on his shoulder. The wild Houndour cried out as he was hit. As Natalia saw the wild Houndour's teeth, she whistled twice. Her Houndour jumped back and cast out an EMBER and while that hadn't done much damage it certainly helped in disorienting the wild Houndour.[break][break] Another whistle from Natalia cued the Houndour into closing the distance. The wild Houndour's teeth were already glowing and he used BITE to chomp down on the trainer's Houndour as it got close enough. With a yelp and wince, she continued through with her command. With equally glowing teeth she zeroed into the shoulder she'd gotten earlier and clamped down to BITE it.[break][break] The Houndours continued their small scrap with a few BITEs exchanged between the two, but it only took a few for the wild Houndour's poison to get the better of him. Once he whimpered, coughed, and backed away with whines, Natalia's Houndour stood with bristled hair, growling, and awaiting another command.[break][break] Natalia pulled a Pokeball from her pocket and tossed it toward the wild Houndour, concerned because the pup had been poisoned. She wasn't the sort to let a Pokemon suffer in the wild just for the sake of a won battle. | If it hadn’t been for the fact that they were on a job and Akira was clearly not in a mood to play, Pro would have been more than happy to entertain the other fire pup and play with her. But alas the boss man would have been extremely displeased with that and probably would have given the Growlithe a stern talking to, something that Prometheus wasn’t particularly down for.
Akira only eyed the Houndour as it was getting closer to Pro, holding his tongue to see what was about to happen. The trainer of the Houndour pulled the Pokémon back which was good for everyone involved.
Before she could ask him something a echoing howl cut her off. Akira was honestly surprised as to how gun-ho the woman was about tracking down and deal with whatever was making that howl.
”Good luck.” There was for sure going to be more than one Pokémon, there was never really just one. It didn’t take more than a few seconds for Akira to be aware of what Pokémon he was going to be running into. It wasn’t something that he was worried about, his team would be able to handle a pack of mutts if they decided to all try and jump him.
It didn’t take long for Akira to run into a wild Houndour, the little shit tried jumping him and that didn’t work all that well for it. The ranger had heard the Pokémon coming from a mile away, must have been new to this whole hunting thing.
Regardless it didn’t look like Akira was going to be able to talk the Pokémon down so he’d have to take it out. Instead of relying on Pro, Akira sent out Ranger to take on the dark/fire type dog. The Staravia was a bit disappointed; the difference in strength between the two was incredibly obvious.
”Don’t do more than you have to.” A swift takedown was preferred but Akira knew that when the bird didn’t get what he wanted there were times he could act like a brat. Ranger was annoyed but the Staravia engaged in battle, using Aerial Ace to send the poor Houndour flying.
The fight was pretty much over after that, much to Ranger’s annoyance. The bird practically gave Akira a look that said “Don’t wake me up for such weak shit,” Which made Akira smirk a bit, as he nodded for the duo of Ranger and Pro to follow behind him.
They made their way to where Akira figured the woman and her Houndour had run off to. While this had nothing to do with his job he was still a ranger and making sure she was alright was definitely a part of that job description.
To no one’s surprise she and her pup were fine, successfully handling the other dark dog. ”See you didn’t have much trouble on your end.” Akira noted. ”Was there something you wanted?” He asked, referring to when she was about to say something earlier before they were so rudely interrupted.

She pocketed the new addition to her team, looking toward the man who had approached her. She gave a polite and warm smile as she bent down to give Houndour a few pets. She even went so far as to use a POTION on her Houndour while she replied to the man's inquiry.[break][break] "Nothing we can't handle," she admitted toward the idea that they hadn't had much trouble. "Houndour's a good girl." She gave the pup a kiss before standing, pocketing her used medicine to throw away when she got home and unpacked her things.[break][break] "Oh yes!" Natalia had nearly forgotten what she was saying before the Houndours attacked. Once she remembered Natalia moved a hand to gesture at the area where she and Houndour had been playing just a bit ago. "I was going to apologize for getting in the way. You looked like a man on a mission." She put her hand on her hip and swayed them a bit with a flirtatious smile. "Very James Bond."[break][break] The sounds of hooves clopping through the cave made Natalia raise her eyebrow. "So what're you here for?" Natalia curiously asked as she motioned for Houndour to sniff and check around. "Investigating the change in wild Pokemon?" She'd noticed him jotting things down and couldn't help but think maybe he was a lab assistant or perhaps just a curious trainer.[break][break] Houndour sniffed about and looked toward where the sounds of hooves came from. A Ponyta just sort of having a run. Houndour gave a bark before moving toward the Ponyta, HOWLing as a warning for the Ponyta to find somewhere else to play. With a paw of her hooves, she reared her legs up and gave a GROWL.[break][break] Another territorial HOWL later and Natalia was wincing. "Sorry, it's an Alpha female thing." Natalia gave a whistle and snapped her fingers, which gave Houndour the go-ahead to stop being intimidating and actually take care of the threat.[break][break] With permission given, Houndour made her way close to the Ponyta. She let out a FIRE SPIN which only made Houndour more comfortable temporally, causing her to spit out a SMOG in a counter. The combined fire and smog created a decent smokescreen. Ponyta was easy to sniff out and Houndour went to BITE at the horse's hooves.[break][break] After coughing and snorting, the Ponyta started a different direction. Houndour jumped up the rocks and moved back over toward her trainer, settling closely by Natalia who had fished out a few snacks for her. Akira returned his Staravia after telling the Pokémon he did a good job, for the rest of the time here he’d rely on the Growlithe at his side. Though he started to second guess that when Pro looked more interested in playing than anything else. [break][break]
When she asked him what exactly was the reason he was here today the man stopped his writing. Despite also hearing the same sound as here he decided to ignore it for the time being and answer her. ”Something like that.” Akira responded. He wasn’t exactly the type for small talk, as obvious as to was, but there were times where he genuinely tried. [break][break]
”Was hired by some researcher to see what was going on in this route, too afraid to come out here or something like that.” A job was a job; Akira didn’t really care about small details like that. [break][break]
The woman ran off to go deal with a Ponyta and that left Akira to deal with a Torkoal that made its way toward them. Akira had never seen a Torkoal look that angry before in his life. ”Pro, use Crunch before it can get started with anything.” The Growlithe nodded, confirming he understood the order and then went to carry it out. [break][break]
Pro’s attack came down hard on the Torkoal, completely startling it to the point where whatever attack it was about to commence was interrupted. ”Follow it up with a Take Down.” It wasn’t much of a fight; Prometheus was just that much stronger than the Torkoal.[break][break]
”What brings you all the way out here? Not exactly the best place to come to play.” Akira asked as he approached the woman and her Houndour. He wouldn’t be surprised if the woman was just curious about the place and decided to check it out. With all the crazy nonsense that was going on lately Akira wasn’t that surprised that people did anything. Now that didn’t mean he thought it was any less dumb or weird, it just meant he was mentally prepared for whatever came his way.

After bending down and giving Houndour a pat or three, she picked the pup up to hold her while she spoke. Houndour really was a champion about the affection, letting her tongue hang out of her mouth as she enjoyed the attention she was given. She was sure not to slobber in Natalia's hair, nor to pant in Natalia's face. She knew her trainer wasn't a fan of either action and tried to avoid doing either as much as she could. The pup hadn't realized how much she'd exhausted herself in those battles until she relaxed in Natalia's arms.[break][break]
"We came to see the cave livelihood. Obviously, very lively." She admitted before letting out a light laugh and keeping her usually warm smile. Her hands never stopped their movements on Houndour. From light pets to small massages on muscles she knew would be sore around Houndour's shoulders and legs.[break][break]
"I used to live here when I was smaller and I remembered the path being filled with ice types, but apparently now they've moved more toward Union Cave and Route 44, which is curious in and of itself." So in short, her natural curiosity had brought her to the cave.[break][break]
Since she was done yapping herself, she turned to look at the man, studying his features for a moment. He was very easy on the eyes and seemed extremely lax. What a breath of fresh air compared to most men she tended to attract. [break][break]
