Leon took a moment to take in the surrounding route. A plethora of trees and woods, a walking path which could take you along the water or through the woods, then a small Pokemon Center, and then an entrance to Union Cave. With a small sigh, he glanced down at Auz, who was playing around in the grass. He had done a few rollouts just to get himself stretched and ready for action. Leon had heard rumors that there were normal types in the area and while he wasn't a trainer and didn't seem to have the luck they did when it came to trying to find a normal type that was sufficient, Leon was in hopes he'd find a Ditto. That's all he wanted, and he figured maybe he could find one here.[break][break]
With everything that had happened, a ditto would help him if he were to get his own ranch going. It was an intimidating thought, starting up his own ranch... but honestly, he needed it. The plethora of things going on in his mind, he would appreciate the silence of his own place. He wasn't sure where he'd put it though. Probably someplace near Kogane. There were a lot of open fields through the routes. He was sure he'd find someplace. He wouldn't need very far.[break][break]
The more he thought about it, the more he figured he was going to be running more of a daycare without training available. Would that even work?[break][break]
Auz gave Leon's leg a tug, which resulted in Leon looking down at the filthy little Azumarill. With a soft and pitying smile, Leon bent down and started to pick the different bits of rock, leaves, and grass from the Azumarill's coat. "Maybe you shouldn't have been rolling around in the dirt, then."[break][break]
With a playful lick to Leon's nose as gratitude, Auz turned back toward the route. He hopped around it, then nibbled on a few pieces of grass as he glanced around and perked his ears up. He wasn't sure what a Ditto looked like, but his trainer wanted one, and he was willing to keep an eye out for anything remotely Ditto-ish.[break][break]

"...and that's why you have to let Horace slide with that Vicegrip." Fanny wasn't happy; not that she ever really had that radiant glow to her, but especially not in that moment. The team's newest acquisition, a Corphish with a penchant for taking the Murkrow by the tail, had set her off one too many times that day. Raziel tried to explain that he just wanted her attention, that he was nervous. At least, that was the story he was telling himself. Horace was honestly an enigma, and Fanny wasn't having it anyways. So the logic was wasted. She floated on the shoulders of a soft breeze about ten feet in front of her trainer as the two trekked Route 31 together. They were en route to Kogane City, because that was the metropolis separating them from Enju City. Raziel had taken an interest in the Burned Tower there. It was his understanding that the Pokemon population there wasn't necessarily native, and changed with its burning. Raziel found his feet passing one another lazily, moving slowly despite his need to try to lecture the Murkrow flying ahead of him. He wasn't sure why, but he found himself thinking about Madatsubomi Tower again. It had crossed his mind again and again, relentlessly over the last few days. He wondered if he was supposed to be studying the Pokemon there, not at the Burned Tower. At least, that seemed to be what his lazy feet seemed to be saying. "We press on." the words were only audible to him, but he felt that they needed to be said. Despite a growing interest in the recent terrorist attack, Raziel had resolved to see the region in its entirety, and so he would. Fanny stopped. "Finally." he heaved, thinking she was done being angry with him. His eyes fell upon a fork in the road, one prong leading to the water, the other away from it. "Oh...let's go right." he figured either would work, and frankly felt too lazy to pull out his map today. And so she resumed her distancing from Raziel. He rolled his eyes and they walked on for a mile or so undisturbed until they came upon another duo. This one consisted of another boy and an Azumarill, and a dirty one at that. The Pokemon, not the trainer. They came upon them pretty rapidly, and with it being just the 4 of them, not saying hello would be rude. When they were close enough, Raziel held up a tired hand -- perhaps they'd been walking a bit too long. "Hey there." he mustered, a polite tone layering the rather empty words. Raziel expected nothing in return despite the requirements of basic social interaction. It didn't take long while they walked for Auz to think it was a good idea to poke everything they passed. From rocks to mounds of dirt, to random wild Pokemon who ended up running away from the blue and white rabbit. Leon had tried to explain what a Ditto was, even showed Auz a picture in his Pokedex, but Auz wasn't really paying attention. Now he was just messing with things without an excuse.[break][break]
When the other two crossed Leon's path, Leon reached down to wrap his arms around his Auzumarill in an attempt to reel him in protectively so the other didn't get in the way of the trainer making his way down the route.[break][break]
"Afternoon," Leon greeted the other with a small wave. "Sorry in advance, he might have set up booby-traps on our way here. I tried to trigger most of them..."[break][break]
As Auz snickered in Leon's hold, he looked up and noted the Spearows that were getting close to their Murkrow of a cousin that must have belonged to the other trainer there. With a quick BUBBLEBEAM, one of them hit the ground and Auz triumphantly cooed before wiggling out of Leon's grasp and curling into a ball, rolling toward the bird Pokemon who was barely recovering. It shook its wings, cawing in an attempt to try and get it's feather's dry from the attack just moments ago. Auz used ROLLOUT to hit the bird again, his way of telling the bird to get lost and leave his trainer and his trainer's new conversational partner alone![break][break]
Leon lifted his brows when Auz shot the thing out of the air. "Wow... I didn't expect such good aim." He watched Auz take care of the bird, the two rolling around in the dirt a bit. The Spearow would use an AERIAL ACE and Auz would just keep on rolling, a ROLLOUT hitting the bird over and over. From FOCUS ENERGY to MIRROR MOVE - which was honestly hysterical because who knew that a Spearow could roll into a ball and try to hit the Azumarill.[break][break]
Auz came out victorious, unrolling and fluffing his filty fur before looking down at himself. He immeidately pouted at Leon, moving over and waving his arms in a plea of sorts.[break][break]
Leon shook his head and bent down, sure to keep out of the trainer's way while they dealt with the Pokemon's friend. "We just talked about this." Leon reminded Auz, moving to get out a comb to get the dirt and leaves out of Auz' coat.[break][break]

Raziel found his greeting returned with one more heartfelt than his own. That in itself had been enough to crack a smile, but as Raziel looked over the boy (man? Upon second glance, boy) and his plucky but dirty Azumarill, he suddenly found the pair more interesting than at first glance. Rollout booby traps may have persisted, or so he'd been told. A quick nod and a chuckle from him acknowledged the comment. "Thanks. Knowing me, I'd find myself face first in a pile of mud." he chuckled again, perhaps feeling instantly attracted to the boy in some way or another. The Azumarill interrupted with a Bubblebeam, seemingly aimed at Fanny. But alas, it hit a Spearow instead, grabbing its attention and separating it from its brother bird. Raziel registered the situation as Fanny squared up against the remaining Spearow, fire in her eyes and murder in her intent. "Night Shade!" thinking that perhaps a non-physical attack would make the Spearow more wary of Fanny, Raziel watched as a dark cloud appeared around his Murkrow and floated into the Spearow. It squawked out in pain as the darkness lifted as quickly as it came, freeing the Spearow up to attack with a Drill Peck. Tiny red wings thrusted it forward, spinning and quite literally drilling into Fanny. She spiraled back herself, altitude dropping to zero as she landed roughly. "Let's use Feint Attack!" Fanny nodded and leaped up, flapping her wings a couple of times to gain speed as she herself returned the contact and knocked the Spearow down a few pegs. It took a chance to retaliate with another Drill Peck, but as it ascended toward Fanny, the Murkrow was too quick -- she strafed instinctively and effectively, a resulting in a clean dodge and a wide open shot at Spearow. Raziel smirked at her reactivity and clenched a fist. "Wing Attack." Maybe it was Fanny's Super Luck, or maybe it was the positioning, but the ensuing Wing Attack sent the Spearow into another dimension. He knew the battle was over as both Spearow skulked off and Fanny reappeared on his shoulder. Raziel looked at the boy (he wanted to learn his name, really) and nodded. He was already picking more twigs and dirt out of Azumarill's coat. "Thanks for that, Azumarill. Fanny doesn't take to bullying too well..." he left a pause in the air. "...if you would have left both of them to her, they'd have been a lot worse than defeated." Had they embarrassed her, Fanny would have ruined their credit scores and left them for dead. She lifted her head proudly, the diva in her shining in that moment like the most brilliant diamond. Perhaps she was above thanks. "And what should I call you, my knight in shining armor?" it was a joke, and Raziel made that clear with a smirk and a sarcastic timbre that did not lack a thankful undertone. "Looks like Fanny and I owe you guys a joke or a coffee, or something." the researcher held out a hand and closed the space between them, giving the boy a chance to shake if he wanted to do so. After cleaning his Azumarill off a bit, he used a wet wipe to clean his hands while Raziel informed him of his Murkrow's name and her apparent love for battle. Honestly, it was refreshing to see such a sassy Pokemon. Somebody other than Iggy in the Pokemon World was a complete drama queen, refreshing, and good to know. Even more refreshing, Raziel's manners! The way he presented himself, stood up straight, offered a hand in greeting and even his name! Leon could have passed out right then and there. Seemed the rest of the Johto community could learn a thing or two from Raziel. Which brought to question, was Raziel native or foreign to the region, like himself?[break][break]
"Leon Harte," Leon offered his name without hesitation along with his hand. He shook Raziel's hand firmly before letting out a small laugh, blushing even. Knight in shining armor? "And I think you have me confused with somebody who could actually protect you." He laughed before shrugging. "But, no need for repayment. It wasn't an issue at all." Leon admitted quickly, moving to scratch the back of his head in an attempt to not be embarrassed. Too late, already blushing. Could he hide it?[break][break]
In an attempt, he looked down at Auz and decided to shift the conversation toward his aquatic rabbit. He couldn't even remember why they'd come out... right! Dittos. "This guy likes to attack pretty much everything. So. Honestly, I'm just glad he didn't get... Franny, was it?" He hoped he remembered the name right. Otherwise, this would be incredibly embarrassing and he was already incredibly embarrassed. His face couldn't handle being redder...[break][break]

A hearty laugh rose out of the Pokemon professor's throat as he shook Leon Harte's hand. He could check off a sense of humor on Leon's list of good qualities, second to being easy on the eyes. I'd give you a voucher, but I don't have any on me. Fortunately I don't indenture myself often." again he chuckled, eyes moving off of Leon to his Azumarill, whom Leon had labelled as battle-hungry. Azumarill never struck him as a Pokemon obsessed with battle, given how cute it was. He, of course, knew better than to attach a personality to a Pokemon breed. The blushing continued. This guy was either the shy type, or he had impeccable taste in men. Raziel smirked at the idea of Auz hitting Fanny and let his gaze fall on Leon. "Yeah...Fanny wouldn't have appreciated the Water Gun to the face. Last time that happened, she spent a good 15 minutes trying to dry her feathers out." she was flying above them, a sentinel in the sky to keep an eye out for anymore Spearow (with an eye on Auz, of course). "She really prefers to be in the sky than on foot, as you can see."Raziel found himself looking up at his Pokemon for a few moments as a comfortable silence lingered between them. He perked up again, looking at Leon. "So, what brings you guys out here, knight in shining armor?" gosh, he was feeling playful today as he smirked once more at the cute little blondie before him. A voucher. This guy was super charming and Leon found himself incredibly pleased about that. His eyes moved up to the Murkrow in the sky above them, flying around and clearly keeping her keen eyes on whatever was beneath her. For a moment, Leon wondered if Auz could take a few pointers, act a little less like a dork and a little more like a guardian... or like he cared about Leon in the slightest. Instead, the aquatic rabbit was currently trying to tie Leon's shoes together. He supposed everybody showed their emotions differently. Auz just liked to prank people he liked, or really anybody, apparently...[break][break]
Joke or not being called somebody's Knight in Shining Armor felt... strange. It was why he'd named his Pawniard Knight, because he'd thought the thing was more his own Knight or Guardian then he would ever think of himself as such. But to see that he'd apparently helped somebody out in such a way? It was a bit startling. But then again, Leon was like a Deerling and a bright light. Got very distracted very easily and when flattered tended to freeze up.[break][break]
"Seriously, you can just call me Leon." He mentioned, having introduced himself prior he decided against doing so a second time. "Titles are a bit, um, nerve wrecking?" Leon let out a laugh before moving a hand through his hair like it would properly distract him from the smirks and snark... which he found incredibly attractive just like Raziel.[break]

"That's definitely not why we're out here." He made a face at the idea of a mud bath, not even thinking how rude the face might have been to anybody who didn't know he was a sass queen. "And Auz just likes to shoot things with his Bubblebeam like he's a sniper, so." Leon shrugged.[break]
"But more importantly, we're looking for a Ditto. A friend and I found one out here, so I'm looking for... maybe it, or it's friends? Either way, just browsing. Hoping to get my hands on one." God he was rambling. Shut up, Leon.

Raziel grabbed ahold of the back of his head, scratching it nervously. "Right. Sorry, Leon." the joke had gone far enough, he supposed. Sure enough, Leon followed up his corrective statement with a look of disgust as he denied the idea of mud baths. Was he vaguely miffed? Raziel hoped not; Leon seemed nice enough, almost like they could be friends. He listened as the other gentleman gave his reasoning for being here. A Ditto? Raziel hadn't seen any today -- at least, none that looked like themselves. His head shook back and forth. "I see. I haven't seen any myself, but I'd be happy to help you guys look! Or keep you company for a little bit." Maybe he was feeling lonely today? If Leon turned his company down, Raziel would be mortified. He feared that he might have shown himself to be annoying and overbearing with his stupid knight in shining joke that he beat like a dead Ponyta. His confidence and charm suddenly drained from him like a swimming pool in the fall; his eyes fell down to the Azumarill. He was tying Leon's shoes together, earning a smile from the researcher. Raziel found himself looking back at Leon before speaking again. "Are you a breeder or something? Ditto seems like something mostly wanted by breeders." he himself had no interest in capturing a Ditto for himself. For Raziel, it was enough to simply observe the little shapeshifter. Then again, just how much would Pokemon activity change if there were more Ditto roaming around in the wild? The Pokemon was particularly rare, but if it wasn't? He wondered just how easy it was for a Pokemon to spot a phony compared to real brethren. He would lay off of Leon, treat him more formally. Leon bent down, waving Auz off and taking out his Pokeball to return him to. A way of telling the Azumarill to leave his damned laces alone. He glanced up at Raziel.[break]
"I could definitely use the company." He explained with a smile, retying his laves correctly. "I've been at this multiple times, alone and with somebody. Maybe you'll bring me some good luck?" The charming smile that followed his comment lasted as long as he could hold eye contact, before standing up and brushing off his hand on his pants.[break][break]
"But uh," and now it was time to change the subject as quickly as possible since he'd definitely just hit on him oops. "Yeah, I'm a breeder. Well, I don't know. I'm definitely a breeder, but it's not like I have my own ranch or daycare. I work at a ranch right now, but, I think I'm looking to get my own ranch up and running." There was a big ol' fat shrug after that because Leon had no idea what he wanted to do with his life.[break][break]
"Most of the breeders here are more 'ranchers' than breeders, you know? It's all about getting a ranch and setting it up and raising Pokemon there. I mean, I'm just not a fan of the outside work and dirt. I'm more a fan of the day care without having to take care of other people's Pokemon aside from breeding them... not into leveling them for other people." Well, wasn't he on a roll with rambling today?[break]
It was true though. Dirt and grime aside from anything and Leon was a fan. He just didn't like to literally get his hands dirty. It was why he found Auz such a hassle most of the time. For a water Pokemon, he sure did like dirt.

"Then I'll happily join you." Raziel could feel the mojo flowing back into his body slowly, a soft smile on his face as he let the conversation shift to Leon's life as a ranch hand. In a way, they were in similar places in life. Leon was trying to become a full-fledged breeder, and Raziel was trying to become a full-fledged professor. He nodded along, especially identifying with the part where Leon said he didn't like to get his hands dirty. "Yeah, if it were up to me, I'd let somebody else do all my dirty work while I just oversaw everything. We all have to put in the hours, I guess."He thought back to the time where he worked directly beneath someone...wow, he was actually doing independent research now. This moment seemed somewhat eye opening as his focus returned to Leon. "I'm sure you'll get there. Where is the ranch you work at now?" Was it close by? Raziel started walking, hoping that Leon would follow suit and they could search for Ditto together. "In Kalos, the Daycare does a lot of leveling. I never understood that...if you're a Pokemon trainer, don't you want to train your Pokemon?" even as a researcher who, in some ways, only needed his Pokemon to protect him on his adventurous queries, Raziel felt an obligation to make his team the best they could be...did that feeling ever fade for some? A shrug concluded his thoughts. "I guess some people just see their Pokemon as tools. Those people suck, of course. And you don't strike me as a sucky person so I'm being frank with you." He kept walking whether Leon was following him or not, eyes scanning the brush around him for a Ditto, as if that would be at all helpful. "This might sound a little strange, but then again, we're being frank here." Leon tilted his head back and forth in thought while he spoke. With a bit more confidence, he continued.[break][break]
"People sometimes just left their Pokemon in the Day Care, like putting them there for raising levels was a subtle way of trying to get them to be let off easy. Most of the time it was Pokemon with special needs. You know, handicaps. Missing an ear, blind, no left foot." Leon shrugged his shoulders, frowning.[break][break]
"It was cruel, but sometimes people just can't handle the defects." The thought was spurred by how Raziel had said that Leon didn't sound like somebody who sucked. Somebody who sucked did that, Leon hadn't ever done that, that's how Leon rationalized that Raziel thought him a decent human being. Otherwise, Leon would have to agree with him. Because, in more ways than one, Leon did suck.[break][break]
Time to change the damn subject within his own mind before he blushed. Oh good! Raziel was looking in the grass, he might as well do the same. Phew, phew.[break][break]
"I mean-" Leon's whole brain shut off, movements in the brush pausing as he realized something Raziel had said. Kalos. Kalos. Suddenly, Leon was beaming over at the redhead.[break][break]

Leon captivated Raziel with his stories of abuse and mistreatment. Raziel could only sigh and shake his head in that sort of way that people did when there was no real way to display appropriate sadness. "Wow...you only ever hear the stories of great Pokemon partners these days. Or the ones that the Virus people are infecting..." a trailing of his voice dripped with animosity toward the group. "But the abusive, shitty people don't get the spotlight they deserve." he'd taken to calling everybody shitty or sucky today. But these people genuinely were just...shitty. Raziel detected some sadness in Leon's visage, perhaps all too familiar with the subject. Before offering any sort of condolences (not that he knew any more about the topic than his new friend did), Leon changed the subject. The professor watched as a pensive look turned to one of pure elation. A fellow Kalosian? Raziel proudly nodded his head, sharing in the enthusiasm with a wild grin to match Leon's. "Yeah, I'm from Shalour! You too!?" he referred to Leon also being from Kalos; he'd be the first fellow Kalosian that Raziel had met in Johto. In that moment, Raziel resolved to get Leon's contact information -- he needed to keep a piece of home close to him. Raziel reached for his phone in the middle of that dirt path. His intent was interrupted by the emergence of a Chatot from the thicket, squawking loud enough to be regarded as a shriek. The phone fell back into his pocket and he turned to face his challenger. Fanny descended from the treetops to defend her master, and the birds squared off against one another. "Wing Attack!" Raziel commenced the battle with a command; Fanny's wings glowed a burning white as she tracked the Chatot. It wasn't fast enough to dodge her, instead plummeting to the ground rather unceremoniously. With a few frantic flaps, Chatot was airborne again. It began to Sing. The melody was beautiful...tranquil...soporific even... Fanny didn't give a shit. Upstage her with your singing? Fuck you. She ignored the song and buried the Chatot with a Feint Attack. The attack abruptly ended the elegy before its effects could really affect anyone. "Wing Attack again." Chatot laid on the ground like a fallen star -- Fanny was the meteorite that had plucked it out of the sky. Now she'd finish it. Raziel looked on as Fanny screeched at the Chatot and dove into it like a predator finishing its prey. She did just that. Chatot limped off in defeat. Raziel looked over at Leon dealing with what probably wasn't a Ditto disguised as a Bronzor and impatiently awaited the conclusion of the encounter so the two of them could bond over their common nationality. Leon couldn't believe his luck! He'd found somebody from Shalour City! That wasn't too far off from his hometown, but he couldn't get those words out quick enough. A Chatot had come out of the woodwork and Leon backed off of Raziel enough to watch as the two worked. Raziel's Murkrow was... honestly a bit terrifying. Reminded him of Zan. She seemed like the sort that didn't take shit, which was a great quality to have in a bird if Leon was being honest. A bird being a woman, not a fowl.[break][break]
As Fanny missed, Leon's attention was taken by his waist vibrating. Taft's Pokeball, typically warning him of an approaching Pokemon. He glanced around curiously before he eyed it. A Bronzor, look at that.[break][break]
"Knight, Feint Attack." He tossed out Knight's Safariball, watching as his Dark Type came into shape and quickly ran toward the Bronzor and inflicted damage with his FEINT ATTACK. It retaliated with an IRON DEFENSE, which caused Knight to simply attack with a FEINT ATTACK once more. The Bronzor twisted and faltered in its movements, which had Leon thinking for a moment if it were a Bronzor. Every indicator said it was one... but honestly, the way it acted... could it be a Ditto in disguise? Typically the disguise failed if you caught the Pokemon or knocked it out.[break][break]
"Don't go easy on it. Feint Attack again." He needed to be sure.[break][break]
Knight complied, easily moving into the Bronzor's TACKLE for a FEINT ATTACK of his own. His body shifted to watch the Bronzor faint, waiting, but nothing... at least, not that they could tell yet.[break][break]
Leon's eyes turned to the fellow trainer and he let out a small sigh. "Not a Ditto." Not that he could tell, anyway. "Great work with your bird fight." Which had looked more like a cat fight when it started.[break][break]
