Something strange had happened on Route 32.[break][break]
Jenna Wright was the nearest available Ranger. As the reports started to pour in, the Ranger Station situated on the route had started to broadcast transmissions for help; crudely worded transmissions, but transmissions none the less. Without anything to deter her, Jenna had accepted their request. She was just as confused as the Rangers back at the station–what had caused the influx of steel-type pokemon? What drove them here? The young woman wondered if this was just another symptom of the migration.[break][break]
Riding atop her Braviary, Jenna had to balance her thoughts of the mission and her fears of falling. Sterling beat his wings to maintain speed, ignoring his trainer's panic as she clutched onto him as tightly as possible–the young Ranger was new to this. It was convenient and faster than riding on her bicycle; but, the ground looked so far away. The trees were tiny dots. The longer she stared down toward the ground, the sicker she became.[break][break]
Sterling thought it was hilarious.[break][break]
“Okay. Okay. I think that's it!” She yelled out, pointing with her finger down towards the Ranger Tower; its bright orange roof helped it stand out from the browns and greens of the surrounding forest. “Nice and slow, okay?!” She had to yell to speak over the sound of the roaring wind.[break][break]
Her Braviary dipped straight down, causing Jenna to wrap both arms around his neck and pray for a merciful death. It never came... because he frayed his wings and came in for a landing that a fighter pilot would have envied. It was easier to fall into a landing; took less energy. Sterling was always trying to cut corners somewhere. The faster he reached the ground, the less flying he would have to do, and the faster he could get back to relaxing.[break][break]
She should have expected it.[break][break]
Jenna, with her hair askew, stepped off the bird with her shaking legs and tried to regain her composure. Maybe, one day, she could go for a flight with her Braviary and not think about dying every other second. Sterling could only look at her with an amused stare. “Thanks, Top Gun. I could have had a heart attack.” He booped her with his beak. With a sigh, Jenna stroked his face and push back the crown of feathers. “Yes, yes. I guess you did good. You can have your nap.”[break][break]
Withdrawing him back into his pokeball, the Ranger fixed her hair and waited for her backup to arrive. She had been told that the League was sending someone to join her...

use your blindfold, cover your hands on my eyes— "stabilize." void of fear, ava's voice blends into the deafening sounds the winds make as they soar through the air. one motion with her right foot diverts them in their path, slicing through the air like a figure skater sliding across ice. smooth and elegance, their flying is nothing short of beauty. through the thickening clouds they go, whizzing in and out in an instant. a smile manages to crack through her tough exterior. one tug sends flygon tilting downwards. she can feel the drop in her stomach for moments; adrenaline fills her. they plummet towards the earth as one: human and pokemon, synchronized. her eyes squint as they pass a cloud, and on the other side comes their destination. but they don't slow down. "closer!" flygon doesn't argue; instead, she folds her wings towards her body and allows momentum to envelop them entirely. "not yet—" they approach dangerous heights but yet they refuse to fold. her pokemon's as stubborn as her. "now!" one tug, one movement. the suddenness is shocking, and she's almost flung off as a result, but flygon remains steely as she pulls up mere inches away from the ground. they stabilize, no longer falling, as they shoot across the open fields. tall grass ripple as they pass, yielding to their sheer speed and intensity before settling back to their natural state. and for moments, everything's quiet. ava sees her partner standing ahead. she tugs again, this time causing flygon to suddenly tilt her entire weight backwards. she extends her wings out to her side and expands them, and as they fight against the momentum of the wind, they soon slow down to a halt. right in front of jenna. when the dust settles, so too does flygon, onto the fresh dirt below. her feet sinks as she lands but her wings stop her from sinking too far down. ava swings her leg over and slides off, landing with a sold thud. she smiles at her partner. "sorry. she likes to make an entrance." a small chuckle escapes as she fans away any remaining dirt in the air. "i do, too." jenna wright: a name that always brings a smile to ava's face. a ranger who saved her life. "always nice to see you, jenna. how are things?" small talk isn't her strong suit, but she'll try her best for jenna. The interrupting voice came from behind them, a narrow man exiting the Ranger Tower. He appeared to be the ranger assigned to this post. He looked worried.

"I'm not sure what you've been briefed on, but.." His words trailed off as he looked for his notebook, flipping it open to a spot. "The typically docile steel-types of this route are losing their minds and attacking anyone and anything in sight. We—
I, haven't been able to find out more."

He gulps nervously.

"Look.. My partner.. She ran off as I was making the initial call in. I haven't heard from her since. Damned girl is a bleeding heart and always trying to help anyone and everyone. Just... Can you make sure she's okay? I'd do it but—
" Someone needed to maintain the tower and act as the point-man for the area.

The junior ranger reaches into his coat and pulls out something.. A Walkie-Talkie and PokeNav.

"Can you just let me know on this if you have anything to report? I can send any spare Rangers your way to secure the scene." With a sigh, he turned towards the treeline, pointing a finger. "She went that running off that way. Just follow the rumbling ground beneath you and I know you're sure to find her." He stopped, forcing down the emotion that threatened to bubble to the surface. "Find her, though. Please.."

“What's buzzing?” Jenna murmured as she glanced up from her cellphone, straining to hear the distant noise as it droned on and on. At first, the Ranger presumed it was a nearby bug-type pokemon; but, as her eyes followed the source of the sound, she had to shield her eyes from the sun.[break][break]
Something was flying towards the Ranger Tower. Something fast.[break][break]
The young Ranger had to squint at the green smudge, struggling to discern its features. A Flygon? That must be her partner's pokemon. With a push of her finger, Jenna locked her phone and returned it to her back pocket. She'd have to think up a quick introduction–the situation was urgent. There wasn't enough time for chitchat. Once they landed, they had to get straight to business.[break][break]
She had to step to the side as the mystic pokemon came in for a landing. The draft of wind that carried from its large wings proceeded to ruin Jenna's attempts at keeping her hair controlled. Jenna had to brace one hand to her bun just to keep it together... and as she opened her eyes when the gust died down, she recognized the rider that had dismounted.[break][break]
Jenna tried to tame her wild bangs as she returned the gym leader's smile. “Hey, Ava.” This was a welcomed surprise. The woman looked good–far better than when they had last seen each other. “Wasn't expecting to see a familiar face. I'm doing good,” despite her earlier panic.[break][break]
The Ranger would get used to flying. Eventually.[break][break]
“Yeah, I volunteered. I picked up the first messages about a half hour ago. Surprised nobody's come out to–” That was when the doors to the Ranger Tower swung open. “Never mind.” That was a strange coincidence.[break][break]
Jenna's gaze focused on the younger Ranger that emerged, recognizing that he was wearing his junior colors. A rookie. She listened to the young man as he frantically explained the situation with his partner. “Did you radio the others and update the situation?” The man nodded. Jenna could only hope his partner had the sense to head to the nearest station.[break][break]
“Which way did she head?” It was the last question that needed to be asked.[break][break]
The man pointed to the dirt path that would wind down the hill to the forest that crept beneath them. “Alright. We'll keep an eye out.” It was time to get going. "So, uh... don't worry." She said to reassure the younger Ranger and to stop his pleas.

use your blindfold, cover your hands on my eyes— ava has never been good with pleasantries, with small talk. it's just a social convention she's never quite appreciated because she was never exposed to it. to most, she'd roll her eyes and sneer at the prospect of small talk. but she doesn't feel that way with the ranger because the ranger is different. the ranger is a friend. they aren't allowed much time to talk before a man comes bursting out from the ranger tower. his persona immediately doesn't sit well with her; she doesn't appreciate being yelled at. thankfully, jenna handles the situation which grants her the opportunity to assess the situation. the dirt path winds down the hill to the forest, which she assumes is where the majority of the steel-types are. hand to her belt finds saga's pokeball. "feel the vibrations in the ground, saga." her fin lays atop the cold ground as her eyes close to focus. among the sea of vibrations that clutter the ground, she finds rumbling not too far away. she perks back up and gestures with her head, swinging it towards the direction the man pointed in. ava gives her an appreciate smile before recalling her. she turns back to jenna, then points at her flygon. "need a ride?" she's half-joking, half-serious. Just when Jenna thought she was done flying.[break][break]
The Ranger stared at the back of the Flygon, feeling a moment of hesitance as Ava made her offer. The woman was right. It was the fastest way to get to their destination. While it could have been possible to fetch her Braviary, Jenna did not feel keen to that idea, either. It'd be rude to refuse... but it'd also be rude to clutch to the woman for dear life. Which would be worse?[break][break]
Jenna sighed to herself, knowing she couldn't waste time over something like this. Her stomach may have twisted itself into knots at the thought of returning to the skies, but she stepped forward. She was a grown woman. She couldn't let her fear dictate her decisions.[break][break]
“Sure. We can't waste time.” Her smile was strained; a small sign of her frittering nerves. Her hand briefly brushed against the large dragon, feeling the smoothness of her green skin. "As long your girl doesn't mind the extra weight."[break][break]
Stepping onboard the Flygon, Jenna sat behind Ava and loosely linked her hands around her, just so she could have something to hold on to. Her arms were relaxed; she would do her best to refrain from clutching to the Gym Leader, knowing that would just be... ridiculous. Jenna wasn't that scared. “Okay. I think I'm good to go.” She wondered if this would be anything like riding her Braviary. Maybe it'd be better? The Flygon's wings were longer; broader. Maybe that made for a more comfortable flying experience?[break][break]
“How fast can she go?” She'd regret those words.
