Kogane City stood as the pillar of metropolitan activity in Johto. It bustled with activity at all hours of the day, its citizens taunted by the gargantuan shopping center and radio tower, its visitors given free reign with the help of the magnet train. In the city's shadow stood Route 35, and that's where Raziel found himself today. As he walked its well-trodden path, the researcher took in the fresh scent that seemed to protect the sanctity of the tranquil path. A large lake sat right in the middle, with tall grass for wild Pokemon to graze in and trainers to practice in lining both along the water and off toward the side where trees were more densely populated. The day was sunny, cloudless really, but the humidity was low -- he knew that would be the true sign of a good or bad day. So a smile seemed to stay spread across his face unintentionally with the good weather as he made his way toward the tall grass. Ever since laying eyes on Madatsubomi Tower, he felt unprepared for the threats the loomed over the region the way Kogane loomed over Route 35. The professor was becoming adept at battling, and he knew that if he would stand a chance to protect himself and his teammates, he'd need a stronger, larger team. So he'd skipped really visiting Kogane for the time being in order to try to find another Pokemon for his team. Fanny was strong, and Horace could hold his own, but Nicky was still inexperienced, and the type spread was less than efficient. Perhaps the peaceful Route 35 was the home of a fearsome fighter waiting for its chance to enter the big leagues. Besides, more Pokemon meant more ways to explore his environment when the time came for research. This was a necessity. He had caught a full team of pokemon, 6 in total, and was now fully prepared to take on a gym. However, he still felt that he was missing a few things. Mostly, he felt that his pokemon were not ready in a mental sense. His Kirlia only cared about being near him, his skarmory was a battle maniac that fought for blood rather than to win, his gyarados was a rampaging monster that didn't listen to him, his Luxray only wanted to mate with other female pokemon, and his shuppet just loved to pull pranks on other people and pokemon alike. If someone else looked at his group of pocket monsters, they'd call them the delinquent team, and would look at Arashi as though he should be ashamed of himself.[break][break] It wasn't his fault that every single one of his pokemon had their different niches. It gave them personality... Even though almost all of their personality were terrible. But, that was why Arashi was here! His pokemon weren't mentally ready for battle, but he would get them mentally ready for battle. All it took was a little tough love and a bit of training.[break][break] "Alright!" Arashi shouted as he stepped onto route 35. "Time to squash some pokemon!" He stretched his arms in the air, then looked at where the nearest tall grass was for him. Without even giving it a second thought, Arashi ran up to the patch of grass and literally nose-dived into it, searching for his first wild pokemon to torment- Erm... Battle. "Let's go squash some Pokemon! The threat rang out like a siren, loud enough to turn every head within a half a mile. Raziel happened to be among these heads, and, as someone who didn't like to make a ruckus everywhere he went, he did not yell back to the newcomer. A wave would suffice; after all, he was in a fantastic mood. Despite the fact that his career was in the toilet, his skin routine was faltering, and he hadn't had sex in 391 days, Raziel could honestly look himself in the mirror and say he was great on this particular day. So he waved at the dark haired man, who really was only about 30 yards away from him. Raziel happened to be knee-deep in tall grass already, a step ahead of the other guy. "Come on in, the water's fine." he laughed -- wow, was he funny -- and reached down to scratch an itchy, exposed ankle when he spotted a Surskit dancing upon the water's surface. He'd become something of an expert against water-types, or so he liked to think. Perhaps the other boy's energy and fervor were contagious, as Raziel found himself jogging toward the Surskit, hand digging around the side pocket of his backpack for a Pokeball. There were 3 to choose from, and he didn't really care which, so he tossed the first one he got a good grip on above the water. In a flash of bright light, Horace was revealed, the Unbending Corphish. He landed right on the bank of the lake, crabbing back and forth a couple times in front of the Surskit. The Surskit took the first move, slowing down and emitting a Sweet Scent to relax Horace. Raziel took in the delightful aroma and felt his euphoria rise. "Bubblebeam!" the order came out softly, but it was not lost on the Corphish, who launched his stream of bubbles at the Surskit. Raziel watched the Surskit dodge the stream with ease, dashing at the Corphish with a Quick Attack. Slowed by the Sweet Scent, he absorb the hit, but not before performing his secret move. Horace clenched around the Surskit's thin noodle of a leg with Vicegrip, stopping it in its place. "Bubblebeam!" The Surskit could only watch as the ruthless Corphish blasted it in the face with a jet of bubbles before tossing it back out into the open water for more. And more it gave, using Bubble. Horace would reply with another Bubblebeam, blasting through the weaker variation of his own attack and grazing the Surskit with a less than effective attack. Raziel knew that Surskit would have to go in for another Quick Attack if it wanted a chance to win the fight, and all Horace had to do was wait for that moment to come. And come it did, not moments later. The closing in of the Surskit at supersonic speed was not too fast for Horace, who was able to use yet another Vicegrip. This one was enough to finish off the Bug/Water-type. Horace tossed the defeated Surskit back out into the pool and let it dance away in defeat. "Now that's what I like to see!" Raziel looked over at the other man training on Route 35, who seemed to have his own challenger. He began walking toward their battle to watch it end. It was like they were disgusted at him for him simply being him. He was used to that look, though, so he didn't care much for the reason why they were all looking at him weirdly. Certainly, if he did care, though, he would definitely realize that this was supposed to be a calming area, where everyone remained a bit quiet so that they could give others the chance to concentrate. But instead...[break][break] "ATHENA, COME ON OUT HERE AND LET'S GET THIS STARTED!"[break][break] ... He was as loud as he could be.[break][break] Arashi summoned his first pokemon to train, Athena the Skarmory. The minute he called her out, she gave a large bellow and flapped her wings, stirring up a violent wind. The first challenger showed themselves eventually, a small Gulpin.[break][break] "A poison type, huh?" Arashi commented. "It's good that I have a steel type then." Arashi once learned the effects of poison types on steel types the hard way. During a battle, he had tried to use a poisonous move on a steel pokemon. It resulted in some great embarrassment for him. But Arashi never failed to remember from that day and on the greater strength that a steel type pokemon could have, and how poison type moves were ineffective against steel type pokemon.[break][break] "Well... Gulpin. Since you're at a massive disadvantage, why don't you go first?"[break][break] The Gulpin was more than happy to attack Athena. It slid its body close to the skarmory, then suddenly jumped. The move it was going for was a hard Pound, however, it only bounced off of Athena's metal coat, dealing next to no damage to her. Normal type moves were also ineffective against steel types. To put it frankly, this pokemon was outmatched.[break][break] "This almost feels wrong..." Arashi said. Memories of his fight with that wretched woman came back to him. There was no way he could abuse this poor little thing like that Empoleon abused his precious Artemis. And yet... If he was going to become stronger, he needed the levels.[break][break] "Athena, use air cutter."[break][break] The skarmory flapped her wings, stirring up more wind. With a mighty caw, she summoned a large gust that slashed into the gulpin like a thick knife. Tiny bits of itself came flying off. But that's alright. It was like a slime, so it would be able to heal itself and reform its body later... Hopefully. However, Arashi didn't want to continue dealing with this thing, so he voted to end it as quickly as possible.[break][break] "Athena, hold it down with Metal Claw!" he ordered, and his pokemon did just that. She made her feet glow silver, like the sharpest knives, and rammed her talons down on the gulpin. The creature was captured on the ground, and couldn't do much else. Athena was a violent pokemon, so there was only one way that she could end a fight. Through the most brutal way. With a near sadistic grin, she tossed the Gulpin into the air, then let loose a sea of Air Cutters. The gulpin went down in no time.[break][break] When the fight was over, Arashi gave a huge sigh. "We are definitely going to take you to a psychologist one day. You are too brutal sometimes, you know that?"[break][break] Athena merely huffed. She knew that she was completely fine. It was Arashi that was wrong. She often wanted him to be a lot more vicious with the way they fought. However, this kid had too big of a heart. Sometimes she thought that if she yelled loud enough, Arashi would start listening to her. But of course, he never did.[break][break] However, Arashi still grinned at his pokemon. "But well done, Athena."[break][break] Athena huffed at that too. I don't need your compliment was probably something that Athena would say if she could speak. She was such a tsundere after all.[break][break] It took Arashi a moment, but he quickly realized that he had someone else spectating him. Arashi saw this person, a prestigious looking guy with brown hair and hazel eyes. He wondered if this guy was a trainer. He waved at the man and stood up to go meet him. Walking over, Arashi extended a hand to the guy and smiled.[break][break] "Hey, watching me fight, I see." Arashi commented. "I hope that battle wasn't too brutal for you. To say that the Skarmory was bloodthirsty might have been an understatement. By the sound of other man's comments, she was quite used to eviscerating Pokemon. Raziel felt his jaw clench and unclench in frustration -- the other trainer had stopped it before it went too far, but why let the Skarmory battle like that at all? He could feel his good mood nearly shatter, but with a shaking of his head and a forced smile, Raziel let the Skarmory's behavior go. He'd hardly registered the fact that the man had approached him and was talking, a hand stretched out. He shook the man's hand. "Brutal is certainly one word for it. I'm glad she knows where to stop." Raziel muttered, a friendly tone masking his mild disdain with the situation. "She's certainly adept at fighting though!" the words were meant to save the previous statement from any unwanted scrutiny. He only let the words hang for a second. "Anyways, nice to meet you. I'm Raziel." their handshake had stopped a moment before, but the two stood across from one another still. Horace stood beside Raziel, staring blankly at the Skarmory, unfazed. Relief washed over Raziel as more wild Pokemon appeared from the brush. A Burmy, though small, stood stoutly across from Horace. Before Horace could react, Raziel pulled out his Pokeball, and in a flash of red light, Horace disappeared. Raziel summoned Nicky, his Starly. The little bird was getting comfortable in his skin, and it was showing in his battling and in his mere demeanor. Chest puffed out, eyes narrow slits, he was determined. "Aerial Ace!" the bird had gotten quick, but Aerial Ace took his speed to another level as he lashed out at the Burmy. The Flying-type move was more than a match for the Burmy, a Bug-type. He knew that, despite Nicky's inexperience, he'd be able to take Burmy out with ease. Burmy returned the favor with a Tackle, its little pine cone-looking body knocking Nicky onto his side. The move wasn't powerful enough to really knock Nicky out of his rhythm, but left Burmy out of position. Raziel would capitalize on this momentary opening. "Aerial Ace again." Nicky, again, lashed out at Burmy and knocked it around pretty easily. As it turned out, Burmy wasn't through, and threw up an ethereal, protective shell in front of it. Raziel shook his head; buying time would do nothing for Burmy. He'd amuse the Pokemon. "Tackle." he ordered, watching Nicky barrel into the shell to no avail. This, however, was enough to shatter it. The opening was there again. "Aerial Ace again." the Starly reared back and led with his beak, driving through the Burmy and launching it back. The battle was over. Raziel smiled expectedly, and then unexpectedly. The Starly began to glow in a white light, its form vaguely changing in the blur. It only took moment, but where a Starly once stood, there was a Staravia. Just as he'd gotten comfortable, Nicky would have to readjust. So he would. "Nicky, congratulations! That's amazing!" the Staravia, inspecting his own guise, chirped proudly and flew next to his trainer for some heavy petting. Raziel looked at the other trainer with a big grin. "Well would you look at that!"Arashi Hyuuga Starly had gained 6 levels elsewhere so I just bumped him up here so that he could evolve ICly.  | [attr="class","iconbl"] [attr="class","iconimage"] [attr="class","iconh"] Blue ink sinks in
