There was a rustling in the leaves. The branches of the trees swayed.[break][break]

Jenna rubbed her hands together to keep them warm, watching Prick's ears twitch towards the disturbance. It seemed to interest him. To the Ranger, what had sounded like the wind moving through the woods sounded different to him. “Someone coming?” The Poison-type sat himself upright, grunting under his breath. If it was a person, he would have been eager to greet them–with his fists. “Pokemon?” He nodded.[break][break]

The Ranger cursed under her breath. “They're watching us?” Another nod. “Think they're hostile?” Suddenly, Prick yanked the young Ranger off the log, sending her to the ground as he dove in front of her. With his other hand raised, his forearm acted as the only line of defense as a hail of sharpened leaves descended upon him–that answered her question.[break][break]

“Shit...” She grumbled as she picked herself up from the ground, trying to brush the dirt from the front of her chest. Prick had already charged into battle, intent on attacking the pokemon that had tried to harm his trainer. His cry of rage was something primal. Something that would radiate through the woods for all to hear.[break][break]

The culprit was a Nuzleaf. The grass type dropped to the ground, ready to take the Nidoking head-on. The wild pokemon would not back down, even when facing a beast that seemed to radiate pure aggression.[break][break]

Prick retaliated with Double Kick. The first swing of his leg missed its mark. The grass-type was agile and able to back away from the first strike. The Nidoking did not seem fazed. When his first kick passed through the empty air, he used to momentum to jump and swing his second kick, hoping that the jump would close the distance and strike the smaller opponent.[break][break]

For a moment, it seemed to work. His kick collided against the side of the Nuzleaf, but it had other plans. Before it could even register the pain from the attack, it used the feint it prepared, which almost knocked Prick to the ground. Prick skidded, claws sinking into the soil, as he tried to regain his footing.[break][break]

The Nuzleaf got greedy, lunging to attack with another physical strike. Prick met the blow with a sharp poison jab, slamming his fist into the pokemon's face and driving it to the ground with a thunderous crack; he was the victor.

Prick's roar echoed through the woods. It reverberated from the trees and Jenna could feel it in her bones. The Nidoking was in his prime and he was keen to let the world know it. If there were any smugglers, they would have surely run back to the gates. Who would want to tamper with something like him.[break][break]

Jenna released a low sigh as her companion returned to her side. He patted her shoulder with his heavy paw, helping her brush off the dirt. “I'm fine.” Her hand landed against the top of his skull, right between the towering spikes, and rubbed where she knew he had difficulty scratching. “I think you gave all the other Rangers nightmares.” He chuffed in amusement, glad to know he had terrorized everyone.[break][break]

Well, not everyone. “Mhm. We got more company.” Jenna peered around her Nidoking, spying the Magneton as it floated between the trees to investigate the disturbance. Prick seemed elated at the sight of the wild pokemon. While he had matured, he was always a battle enthusiast. That would never change.[break][break]

“I'm not worried. Are you?” Prick flicked her arm playfully, grinning from ear to ear. The Ranger could only laugh under her breath as she rubbed her arm. He had a strong flick. “Give 'em hell.”[break][break]

He charged with glee toward the electric pokemon, shrugging off each and every electric attack that came his way. The sparks reflected from the hardened shell that coated his body. Just to show how unaffected he was, Prick latched both hands to the electric type and kept it in his grasp, even when it tried to supercharge its attacks. “Oh, come on!” Jenna called out to Prick as he was illuminated with each attack. “Showboat!” But she couldn't help but smile at his antics. He was still a jackass, but with time, he had turned into a... lovable jackass.[break][break]

That was real development.[break][break]

With one hard kick, Prick punted the Magneton back into the wilds, knowing the force of his strike would be enough to win the encounter.

Another electric type?[break][break]

Jenna could sense Prick's excitement as the Electabuzz entered into the dark clearing; its yellow fur illuminated by the crackling energy it radiated. It was another victory as far as the Nidoking was concerned. All of that voltage would be wasted against him. “I'm going to capture it,” and those words seemed to deflate his enthusiasm. The Nidoking stared back at his trainer, knowing that she had more than enough pokemon to keep her satisfied.[break][break]

“Hey, it's not for me, alright?” He doubted it. “No, seriously.” Prick slowly shook his head in disapproval before turning his attention back to the Electabuzz.[break][break]

The electric-type had charged, swinging forth its leg to deliver a Low Sweep to try and knock the Nidoking to the ground. Maybe the move seemed to surprise Prick, but he cleanly hopped over the extended leg; he had battled long enough to know how to dodge moves that were so straightforward.[break][break]

As the battle began to unfold, Jenna fetched one of her greatballs, watching for her chance to strike. She just had to wait for the Electabuzz to take a few hits, then she'd have a better chance.[break][break]

Seeing that its attack failed, the Electabuzz lunged toward the Nidoking, releasing Discharge in hopes of causing damage to the armored poison-type. It didn't work. Prick raised a hand and easily caught the electric-type by the throat, unfazed when the full brunt of the attack met against his purple shell. It did nothing. Just like last time, he had a pokemon in his hands that could not properly retaliate.[break][break]

He chucked it, and delivered a kick straight to the gut; the first kick. It slammed the Electabuzz against a nearby tree, making it tremble from the force. He just had to follow up with the second kick–[break][break]

And then Jenna chucked her greatball, which Prick had anticipated happening. His second kick cleaved into the tree, causing it to fall backwards, while his foe was engulfed by the thrown capsule. One shake, two shakes.[break][break]

He gave a loud sigh, sensing that her capture would be a success.
