The moment she had picked Prick as her first pokemon, she had known that battling would be apart of her job. It had always been an obstacle, never something to be relished. She never thought she'd be good at it. She never thought she'd enjoy it. Turns out, time had changed her. While the young Ranger was never one to look out for a fight, she had accepted that it was more than an obstacle; it was a vital aspect of raising her pokemon. If they enjoyed it, then she'd do her best to enable their pursuits.[break][break]
When the news of the Battle Train reached her ears, it was because of her pokemon. An evening spent in Kogane had lead to stumbling across a billboard advertising the event. A few members of her team were hellbent on tackling the challenge after being told what it meant. She had decided to indulge them... and Lapis had volunteered to tag along, much to Jenna's surprise. Maybe the gentle Lapras wanted to keep an eye on her fellow teammates; Woofer was the cause of all of this. The Exploud was always attracted to the theatrics. The moment he saw the advertisement, she should have known he would have been smitten.[break][break]
The girl stared at her ticket as she was ushered through the long line leading to the cabins. She hadn't signed up for this event on her own. Battling with strangers was too strange to imagine, so the girl had contacted the first person that came to mind.[break][break]
She glanced up at her registered cabin and stepped onboard, wondering if Oswald was waiting for her. They always worked well with one another. The girl imagined that this night would be no different... and maybe, just maybe, she could see if she was actually any good at this battle business.

A young trainer beamed as he stared down at the ticket that was in his hand, a ticket for the Battle Train. Oswald had heard about it before, a series of battles with various different challenges all taking place on a running train line.

The idea of Pokémon duking it out inside of a train cabin would sound like a terrible poor idea to many people and that sort of reaction wasn’t one that Oswald could blame anyone for having. It was a thought that had crossed his mind for a moment but he was more interested in taking the challenge.

Oswald wasn’t alone there; a lot of his Pokémon were into the idea. Unfortunately he couldn’t bring all of them and instead could only bring three. Sol and Terra weren’t surprises but Merlin being one of the first to volunteer was. The Sylveon typically left the fighting for the bigger and more rowdy of Oz’s crew despite being quite the little powerhouse himself.

It came from a place of not wanting to get dirty, the Pokémon as usual being a primadonna. However Merlin wanted to get in on the fun and Oswald wasn’t going to deny the Pokémon the opportunity to flex his stuff.

The blonde had even more of a reason to go as he was invited by a friend of his, Jenna. The two of them got along pretty well and she was a cute little thing so spending time with her was always a treat. And while he would have preferred a more romantic setting going on the battle subway with her was just as good.

There weren’t many other people he’d rather have, they were going to make an awesome team and it made bringing his Excadrill along even better now. It’d be nice to see Jenna take on some real challengers.

”Ah there you are! Bonjour!” Oswald had been on the cabin waiting for Jenna and he was happy to see her. ”I hope you’re ready to kick some serious ass today.” He walked over to his partner with a big smile on his face.

”I know my Pokémon and I are itching to get this going. See if these subway bosses are really made of tough stuff.” It was a bit hard to contain his excitement but could you blame him? Battling on a train? Sounded like something that only happens in video games.

As trainers are guided to their assigned cabins, a message is played over the intercom that will proceed to interrupt any ongoing conversation with its loud buzzing. “Attention passengers: your Subway Bosses are speaking. The train is about to leave the station. Please stand clear of the closing doors. If this were an ordinary evening, we would advise our passengers to remain seated as we depart...”
Another voice, similar to the other, continued. “...But that's not the case for tonight, now is it? The Magnet Train is now en-route to Kanto. While you are on the Magnet Train, please keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Your pokemon are now free to wander outside their capsules for the remainder of your stay... We look forward to meeting all of you in due time.”
The train lurched forward, suddenly powered by a force that will carry it from the bright lights of the Circuit Circus. Within moments, the city will become a speck in the distance, and the scenery will become a blur for onlookers that choose to glance out the windows. The cabin trembles from the force, and suddenly it makes sense why these departures are usually done with everyone seated...
At the other end of the train car, a red light is flashing. The clear sliding door appeared to be locked, preventing anyone from traversing between cabins. It is only when the train reached its perfect cruising speed that the light switches to green, and the doors to the next cabin slide open.
The first challenge awaits.

“What?” Jenna remarked the moment she walked into the first cabin, trying to keep herself steady as the cabin trembled; the train was still trying to reach a good cruising speed. It made standing harder than it had to be. She had to grab a rail to help keep herself upright while the two Rocket members proceeded to perform a... rehearsed speech?[break][break]
The young Ranger turned to Oswald, mouthing, “what the heck?” as Jessie and James continued with their performance? There was even one moment where, Jenna swore, she saw an image of the stars superimposed behind the fiendish duo as if a poster had been placed behind them. “Are you seeing this?” The girl repeated to her curly-haired companion, wanting to make sure Oswald was equally perplexed by this performance.[break][break]
Also, did Team Rocket really want to protect the world from devastation? No. She didn't think so. It was...kinda catchy, though?[break][break]
Their speech came to an abrupt end. It seemed as if a member of the team was missing... but, then, the Rocket duo turned their gaze to Jenna and stared at her with threatening intentions. They were staring at her belt, which was brimming with brightly polished pokeballs. Only an idiot would misunderstand their intentions, especially since the red-haired woman announced it for the world to hear.[break][break]
“Um? What?” Jenna blurted out, stunned by their intentions. She actually hovered a hand over her belt, similar to a woman clutching their purse. “Why me? There's nothing wrong with Oswald or his pokemon.” Wow, good job, Jenna. Way to drag him into the mix. The girl pinched her brow and huffed out a sigh at her scrambled thought process.[break][break]
“Totally not what I meant. Don't steal his pokemon, either. Just... ugh, screw it, let's just get this over with.” She had ruined the tension. If Prick were here, she'd imagine the Nidoking would be choking on laughter. The bunhead spared Oswald an apologetic smile, trying to make up for her... verbal fumbling. It would have been better if she kept her mouth shut and tried to seem serious and... imposing. If that was possible.[break][break]
When the Rocket Members released their pokemon, Jenna tapped the first pokeball on her belt. Her finger pressed against the release mechanism, causing it to pop open and release its occupant.[break][break]
Her Aegislash appeared, released from the confines of her vessel. The knightly sword and shield turned to regard her trainer with an odd reverence. She even seemed to bow before Jenna, awaiting orders to strike at the two offensive pokemon that lingered before them. “I'll take on the Mime Jr.” Saber turned and focused on the foe, devoid of emotion. If it was what her queen wished, then it would be implemented without hesitation.[break][break]
Still, the Ranger frowned at the inhibitor that was placed upon her pokemon, knowing this fight would be harder than it seemed.[break][break]
Without waiting for Jenna's command, the ghost faded into nothingness, just as the Mime Jr. attempted an attack; confusion. The Ranger had to raise her forearm to her face as the concussive blast bounced against the walls of the cabin, missing its mark... and when Aegislash reappeared behind the Mime Jr, it attempted to smack it aside with the flat side of the blade. It worked.[break][break]
The small fairy bounced from the hard blow, hitting the ground with such force that it spun through the air and landed onto an empty seat... but the battle was far from over.[break][break]
Saber prepared to use Aerial Ace.[break][break]
James shouted to his Mime, ordering it to use Barrier as he sensed the incoming attack. Saber had already spun herself through the air, eager to cleave into her foe... only to bounce off the mental construct that the fairy quickly summoned. Jenna cursed under her breath, knowing that its defenses were raised; enough to make the damage caused by Aerial Ace to be negligible.[break][break]
It caused Saber to hesitate. That allowed Mime Jr. to reach forth its hands and tickle the ghost type, lowering her guard. That was when Jenna intervened.[break][break]
“Sacred Sword!” She had to keep the battle moving. She had to maintain Saber's assault before the Mime could properly think of a strategy. It would have seemed stupid to order Aegislash to use a Fighting move against a pokemon with Mime Jr.'s typing... but it was a move that could slice through raised defenses. Saber understood that immediately. The blade spun and prepared for another strike... and when the blade swung forward, it sliced straight through the barrier that had deflected it. The inhibitor that retrained the Aegislash's power seemed to spur to life, struggling to hold back the strength that was pushed into the attack...[break][break]
And Mime Jr, despite being attacked by a move it was resistant against, bounced back towards the direction of James the Rocket Member. It struggled to pick itself up from the ground, showing that it still had the health to fight–[break][break]
But that was when the second Shadow Strike was delivered, ending her portion of the battle.

There were many questions Oswald had but he was sure that none of them were going to get answered. First the train takes off with a speed and force that threw Oswald off, almost knocking him on his ass if it wasn’t for the fact that he grabbed onto the railing.

What came next hadn’t only confused his little blue friend next to him. The lights had dimmed and spotlight shined down on two………Team Rocket members? Oswald rubbed his eyes, was he seeing this right? Were they perhaps a part of some kind of show in association with the subway battles?
[break][break]
While that seemed like a passable answer to that question, a part of Oswald felt like that wasn’t the case. And to be quite fair, if it wasn’t for the fact that they were supposed to be members of a criminal organization that instills fear this whole little performance would be a lot more impressive.
[break][break]
Maybe if they added a bit more flair to it, changed some of the lines and maybe some more work on their choreography they’d really have something here. Oswald was kind of feeling it but, and understandably, blue next to him was more confused and concerned than he was.

All Oswald could really do was shrug in response to her, not really sure what to say. So they were going to try and take their Pokémon? Well the woman said Jenna so Oswald jokingly thought he was in the clear, though he wasn’t sure if he should have been offended by that or not.

He couldn’t believe when Jenna verbally vomited all over the situation, practically telling them to snatch his Pokémon instead. ”Real smooth there, Jen.” Oswald chuckled. Alright it was time to get this fight with these goons started, the blonde pulling out a particular pokeball.

Oswald released his Charizard, a great start to deal with the Rocket’s Pokémon. A Mime Jr. and a Wobbuffet, seemed like it was going to be a huge pain in the ass to deal with, especially the Wobbuffet. The duo exchanged puzzled looks at each other as they watched the interaction between Jenna and her Aegislash.

The two then mockingly copied the little interaction, bowing to each other and smiling. ”Of course you’ll take on the Mime Jr.” Oswald sighed. ”Just leave me with the annoying one, thanks.” He laughed. It was time to get the show rolling.

Sol faced the Wobbuffet, releasing a huff of flames to show that he was serious. Wobbuffets were tricky Pokémon to fight, they were able to counter almost anything thrown at them. So it was a game if you could call which way they would try to counter you as there were different counters for different types of moves.

If they could keep the Rocket guessing then they had a pretty good chance at this. Still, this could go really south if they couldn’t get a hit in. And there was also the chance the Wobbuffet had Destiny Bond, which meant they had to end the fight before they could use it.

”Dragon Claw!” They’d rush the Wobbuffet to prevent that possibility of a double K.O. A light-green aura proceeded to surround Sol’s hands, forming a large claw shape. The fire type then charged the Wobbuffet, hopefully baiting the Pokémon and its trainer to use Counter.

And he was right on the money! A smile crossed his face when Jesse called for her Wobbuffet to use Counter. ”Now change it up and use Flamethrower instead!” Before Sol came down with his claws the Charizard instead engulfed the Psychic type in a stream of flames coming from his mouth.

The Patient Pokémon was definitely fried now but it still had some fight left in it. And only to add insult to injury it seemed the Wobbuffet was also suffering from a burn side effect from Flamethrower. That was good for Oswald but it almost meant that a Destiny Bond next could be the end of it.

”Now follow up with that Dragon Claw.” Now the Charizard was free to come down with his energy coated claws, sending the Wobbuffet flying to its trainer. That attack combined with the burn was enough to take down the Pokémon, much to the misfortune of its trainer who wanted to use Destiny Bond next.

Oswald let out a sigh of relief, they managed to avoid catastrophe. And looking over to blue it looked like her fight was over as well, both had been victorious. ”Hey good job over there.” He’d congratulate Jen. That’d be followed by giving her a light chop on the head and proceeding to scold her.

”I’m not going to forget you pretty much told them to steal my Pokémon instead and I most definitely didn’t hear a legit apology!” Oswald had a serious face for a second before laughing. ”Though next time you’re the one dealing with the Wobbuffet. That’s some stressful battling.”

Just after being hit the wobbufet ended up bowling into both of the team rocket grunts. For a moment the two seemed adamant about losing and stood back up with an odd device in their hands ready to fire it at Jenna until the train came to an abrupt stop. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH and before anyone could do so much as say 'twerp' the cart became flooded with police officers.
"Ah, Jesse and James, so good to see you." one of the officers beamed. "I think you two will enjoy prison more than the train." he laughed as both grunts and their Pokemon were forced off of the train car by a mass of blue uniforms. For a moment you could have sworn you saw a handcuffed Meowth in one of the Police cruisers cry out for justice but hey! That's just your silly imagination.
"Team Rocket's Blasting Off Aga-" the police car's door slammed in their faces. As fast as they swarmed the train they were gone a swarm of cars turning back to the festival... Looks like we might never see them again.
"Excuse the delay passengers this is your Subway boss speaking we are sorry for the delay," The train lurched forward again and it was back in route to Kanto.

“I didn't mean it like that!” Jenna laughed as Oswald gave her the light chop. He must have learned that from his Excadrill. In the background, she could see the cops haul the two Rocket members away; she didn't pay them any mind. If they were in custody, then they weren't her problem anymore. “I'm not the smooth-talker, okay? I'll leave that to you.” Hopefully the next challenge would be different from their first. Something less steal-y and more... legitimate? That'd be nice.[break][break]
The red light switched off. It changed to green. The doors were unlocked. The Ranger stepped forward as the glass doors slid open. The next challenger awaited them–[break][break]
And Jenna had to raise both hands to her ears, trying the shield them from the sudden onslaught of noise. It was too shrill–too sharp–to be considered enjoyable. “What is that turned up to?! Eleven?!” She shouted over the cacophony. The guitarist did not respond to her question, even if he opened his mouth between strums of the strings. “What?” Was he talking? She couldn't tell.[break][break]
Screw it. She fetched her pokeball as the noise continued to blare. The man had already deployed his pokemon. Saber was released to the battlefield once again. “I'll take the–” She was trying to shout to Oswald, but figured it'd be pointless and chose to point at the angry Electrode instead. Saber also understood the gesture and prepared for battle.[break][break]
The electrode initiated the battle by using Charge. Most likely an attempt to gather energy for whatever moves it may possess. It doubled the power of electric moves, didn't it? “Get ready to use–” Saber couldn't hear her and chose to use Sacred Sword, bashing the round pokemon with enough force to make it bounce around the cabin like a ping-pong ball.[break][break]
“Kings Shield!” She had to scream over the noise, finally letting Saber know what she wanted–but it was already too late. The Electrode released Electro Ball and the attack knocked Saber straight against a nearby seat. Shit, shit–Saber had enough sense to levitate herself up from the chair to avoid a concentrate blast of air; Sonic Boom.[break][break]
The second Sacred Sword worked. Just like last time, it bashed into the bouncing Electrode. Jenna switched her gaze to the Elekid, sensing that Oswald would have no problems...also, her voice hurt.

Oswald waved goodbye to the two rocket members. While they might not have put up much of a challenge they would at least be remembered that was for sure. HE sort of wondered what the version of their little intro was; it was obvious there was more to it and maybe a member of their group missing?

He could have sworn he heard them mentioned a Meowth? And had he seen a Meowth inside of the cop car that was taking Jesse and James away? No, that’d be weird. Why would a Meowth have gotten arrested similarly to these two?

He smiled at Jenna’s remarks, walking over to his Charizard and petting the fire dragon. ”You did well out there Sol, you deserve a break this round.” The Charizard nodded as Oswald pulled out the Pokémon’s capsule and returned the fire type.

With the red light switching off and changing to green it was time for the two trainers to move onto the next car and face whatever challenge that awaited them. Hopefully it’d be a bit easier to deal with than a Wobbufett and their annoying gimmick of countering/reflecting everything that came their way back at you.

The first thing the duo was greeted to was the deafening sounds of a wailing guitar. Now Oswald was the type who enjoyed most types of music and tried to find some sort of enjoyment out of everything but this was nothing more than an assault on the ears.

He noticed the man opening his mouth, was the guy actually trying to talk during all of this? He couldn’t be serious! There was no way anyone was going to hear anything over all of this, especially with him being on the other side. Luckily all they had to do was beat this guy to get this over with.

Two electric types weren’t going to be much trouble for Oz seeing as he brought along his Excadrill. He reached for the mole’s pokeball, releasing the ground type who was none too pleased with suddenly being attacked by sound.

The look she gave her trainer screamed “I’m going to kill someone!” and all Oswald could really do was point to the Elekid that stood across from her. Terra understood what she was going to have to do. Oz felt a bit bad for the electric type, not only having to fight Terra but for having a trainer like that.

Whatever Jenna tried to say was completely unnoticed by Oswald who was trying his best to make sure he wouldn’t go deaf by the end of this. The Elekid made the first move, using Quick Attack to charge Terra.

The attack did little damage as not only was it a typing disadvantage on the Elekid’s part; the difference in strength was too great. ”Use Drill Run!” Oswald shouted, at the top of his lungs, to Terra but the Excadrill couldn’t hear him. Luckily the Pokémon still used the attack, annoyed that she had to fight such a weaker opponent.

The Drill Run sent the poor Elekid flying, Oswald wincing at the effect of Terra’s Drill Run on the Pokémon. It didn’t seem fair but that’s how it was unfortunately. No point in not taking advantage of the situation.

And when the poor Elekid tried using Low Kick it was terrified when the attack didn’t do as much as it had hoped. Another Drill Run was enough to put it down and with Jenna having taken care of the Electrode it was hopefully time to keep moving and get away from all this noise. Oswald swore his ears were bleeding.

The speed of the strike seemed to catch it off-guard, because it did not have a chance to retaliate. The fairy type was flung to the other side of the cabin, where it bounced off the glass sliding doors with a loud thump.[break][break]
She tucked her hands into her pockets as her foe ordered the pokemon to retaliate. The Jigglypuff picked itself up from the ground and prepared to use Sing–It didn't work. That move had an abysmal chance of succeeding. They must have been desperate to try and rely on that move.[break][break]
The second Sacred Sword finished the job. Jenna could only shrug.
