Jenna Wright held out an oil lantern to illuminate her surroundings, thankful that she had brought this with her. The batteries for her flashlight had finally died. She had thought she had spares, but spending the last half-hour digging through her bag confirmed that they were lost to the void of her endless pockets. “This'll work.” It was not the same, but Jenna found the heat the lantern radiated to be pleasant. It made her skin prickle. It cut the chill.[break][break]
Derleth was not so fond of it. His sunken red eyes focused on the device with disapproval, feeling the heat strip his skin of its protective moisture. The Ranger had to heave up the water-type with her hand to let him reside on her shoulder. He lacked the hands to clutch onto her, but his three-pronged tail helped him keep balance; the appendages appeared to be kelp-like but were far sturdier than they seemed.[break][break]
Jenna patted the rotten seahorse, knowing she would have to find water somewhere; rains had come the night before. Water had likely trickled into the recesses of the Dark Cave that he could utilize. The Ranger was still trying to learn more about her strange pokemon. She hoped that this expedition could help. Battling with other pokemon was a fast indicator of a pokemon's temperament.[break][break]
He was the silent type. That was all that she could determine.

Something was wrong.[break][break]
Deeper into the caverns, Jenna could hear the signs of a fight. With every step forward, the ground would tremble as if it were ready to give way. Grunts and pokemon cries filled the air. Derleth drew himself closer to his trainer, concerned by the force that was being exerted. The Ranger found herself worrying if the cave would collapse, but felt to need to continue. A part of her wanted to see what was unfolding. Her hand graced the side of a support beam; one of the few that were present in the Dark Cave.[break][break]
The tunnel expanded. The ceiling raised. Similar to an atrium, the walls were stretched apart from one another to create a wide, open space that was perfect for battle. Her oil lantern managed to illuminate what was happening before her... and it seemed as if the battle had already concluded. A rhydon was on the ground, defeated. It did not seem seriously injured, pardoning the dents that lined the spikes that trailed down from its spine. A blunt force that done that.[break][break]
And when she raised the lantern higher, she caught sight of the victor.[break][break]
A Torterra, except it looked far worse for wear. The Rydon had sustained minimal injuries, but that was not the same for the massive land beast. It tried to remain upright, tried to remain proud for its victory, but the light illuminated the truth. There was blood. There was a sight that could make anyone's blood run cold. It had been mortally wounded. She directed her gaze up from its side, trying to ignore a gruesome sight that did not need to be described, as the creature buckled down to its knees.[break][break]
“Hey, hey!” She rushed forward and let its head rest against her shoulder as she tried to help it stand upright. It was too heavy. She was driven to her knees as well, struggling to keep the grass-type alive as her hand pressed against a wound that was too large to be concealed. “Stay with me, okay?” Her hand hurried to retrieve a greatball. “I'll get you to a Pokemon Center,” because there was no way a potion could fix what laid before her.[break][break]
The creature could only rumble, slowly drifting away. She knew what that meant. Without any hesitation, she tapped the capsule to the beast and tried to ignore the viscous red that had sunken into her jacket. The Torterra was absorbed by the red light. The Ranger was running to the exit.

Just as your Pokeball stops shaking you hear somone approach you from above. You see not a blimp, not a flying machine but a man standing on a hill on his own. "Make it double.." he mutters under his breath as he hops down from the not so steep drop. In one hand is a Pokeball and the other a clenched fist. His uniform is covered in dirt and grime and a fine purple stubble aligns his maw and cheeks. The bags under his eyes can tell he's been crying as well as sleep less and he glares at you.
"You're the one who got Jessee and Meowth locked up..." he said with teary eyes. "I have nothing now, but once I beat you I'll sell your Pokemon and make bail for them both!'
With that he tossed a Pokeball at his feet releasing an odd Pokemon.. The Torterra was the only thing on her mind.[break][break]
Jenna held the newly-filled capsule close to her chest. In her mind, she knew that she could reach the Pokemon Center in time for her newest pokemon to seek medical treatment. What she hadn't anticipated was someone trying to get in her way. As her feet crossed the threshold to the Dark Cave, the wild expanse of the wilds met her as the night sky loomed overhead. Her lantern had been outstretched; the flame flickered.[break][break]
She had to come to a sudden stop. Her boots skidded, grinding down the gravel that had dotted the path ahead of her. Someone was blocking her path.[break][break]
“You again?” The light illuminated the shape of the Rocket Man from the Train. She had recognized his voice the moment he tried to begin his speech, only to watch him falter without the help of his partner. What was his name? James? Despite the man's threats, the Ranger could only frown to herself; his dishevelment made her feel sorry for him. “Hey, listen, great idea, but I really don't have time for this.” A pokemon's life was at stake.[break][break]
He released a Garchomp. The last pokemon she had ever expected. As the brutish dragon turned its gaze away from her, she anticipated what was coming. “You idiot–!” She snarled out as her hand fetched the only pokemon on her person that could handle this situation; her Aegislash.[break][break]
With a pitcher's toss, Jenna flings her pokeball with the sharp snap of her wrist. The ball vaulted between the Rocket member as the parted maw of the dragon. It snapped with a familiar pop, releasing Saber. “King's Sheild!” Jenna had kept moving, chasing down her throw and her foe.[break][break]
The sword and shield became one. Raised above the Rocket Member, Saber waited until Jenna was close enough to be protected before the move was unleashed.[break][break]
With all of the force in her body, the young Ranger crashed her shoulder against James' midsection, driving him to the ground as they encased by the invisible barrier. The two actions had been simultaneous with one another. The Garchomp was unfazed by the newest foe. It had chosen to unleash the strongest of its known moves; Giga Impact. Striking both clawed appendages down upon the barrier, the force was almost palpable as the ground shuddered.[break][break]
For a moment, she worried if her Aegislash could maintain the barrier. She did. The power of the King Sheild could be felt as it glowed a vicious white light that sapped into the strength of her enemy. “Don't let up!” Jenna shouted as she pushed down on the Rocket Member, trying to keep him from standing up. “Don't you know dragons are bonded to their original trainers?” She hissed, unable to wrap her mind around the stupidity–it must have been desperation.[break][break]
The attack lost momentum. At that moment, Saber was allowed to deflect. With a sudden upward motion, the Aegislash swung the invisible barrier upward and caused the Garchomp to take a step back. It would need time to recuperate from such a powerful move. It gave her the chance to retaliate. “Sacred Sword!” Jenna shouted in tandem with her Aegislash as its form shifted once again; the blade lunged and collided against the dragon, striking with the flat side of the blade to the side of its head, knocking it unconscious.[break][break]
And all that was left was the Rocket Member.[break][break]
Jenna stood herself up, panting as she kept her Torterra's capsule close to her chest. There was something shining on her wrist; metal.
