Honestly, even Vivian hadn't expected for this supposed 'date' to turn out like this. Was she upset about it? No, not really. Because, yes, seeing who could throw sand at each other the hardest was a hell of a lot more fun than chowing down on some stupid dessert, still glaring daggers at each other.
Initially, she'd been glowering at Asta for otherwise 'betraying' her, as the larvitar was being all buddy buddy with 'the enemy'. But, eventually, she became focused solely on beating the man by herself. He'd be tasting sand for days if she had her way. The eyes of the crowd that once bothered and annoyed her were like a distant memory. Her focus on beating him into submission had, more or less, turned into seeing how much sand she could throw at him...As much as it pained her to even admit to it - she was actually enjoying herself.
This reminded her of home - of where she met half of her friends via beating the crap out of each other first. Granted, this was a lot less painful than throwing actual punches at each other, but, it did stir the same feelings - feelings she...actually didn't mind, for once. And, as much as she wanted to feel the same anger she typical felt for the man - as well as everyone else - this whole situation was making it...difficult to. After all, how the hell was she supposed to stay angry while having sand caked on her cheeks sticking to her hair?
And so, for once, the girl just...allowed herself to enjoy the moment. No angry screams - no serious threats, no desire to prove her superiority to anything that breathed. The idea of taking this seriously or trying to keep whatever dignity she had was gone in favor of just relishing in this moment.
"Oi - shut up! You're the one covered in more sand, dumbass!" She taunted back, voice even lacking its usual bite, even as they rolled onto the wet sand. She snickered slightly as wet sand splattered across her face and neck - to which she retaliated with trying to shove the dampened sand down his shirt. "Here - have some!" This whole thing was so stupid...but why was it actually fun? She couldn't even bring herself to get pissed off whenever sand would dump onto her head or a ball of wet sand would hit her smack dab in the forehead. Her insults and taunts were often accompanied by an amused snicker - sometimes even a little laugh, as she'd throw herself at the man and attempt to wrestle with him. They'd roll back and forth, with Vivian scooping up sand and trying to smear it onto the man's face, laughing all the while. And...it was an actual laugh too - void of her usual ridicule or harshness.
As they briefly paused, both too out of breath to continue their wrestling and rolling about, Vivian couldn't help but smile - even if she had no idea that she was doing so. It looked odd on her face - it made her look...well, happy for once, her eyes gently closed in sheer delight as she laughed. She was positive that later, when she sat and reflected on the day, she'd feel like an utter idiot for revealing so much of herself to him of all people. Bu right now, in this very moment, she was...happy. She was having fun - and it showed quite clearly on her face.
From where she settled atop him, she...didn't even notice the wave. No - she was too busy laughing, in all honesty. And so, when the warm waters suddenly engulfed them both, she couldn't help but cling onto the man beneath her, probably out of actual shock. Her grip on his shoulders tightened as she lowered herself to him - maybe in some sort of fear that she'd get swept away if she didn't. The water dragged at them briefly, forcing them to press close to one another due to the weight of the water before receding, ridding them of their sand caked forms, but, positively soaking them both. Thankfully, they hadn't been swept out to sea or anything, but, it did make Vivian realize just what the hell was going on, as she took in the scene before her, as though woken from a trance.
But...honestly, she didn't even care. Not right now, at least.
As the wave receded, she still sat atop him, but, thankfully, peeled herself off from being so close to him. She leaned over him with a victorious smile, wet droplets from her now sleek hair dripping onto his face. A hand that had been settled near head lifted, prodding him in the forehead in a gentle manner unfitting of the usually rough female. "Heh...I won!" She soon declared - as pompous as always. But, it was such a silly declaration - one that was full of light playfulness rather than her typical smugness. She made no attempt to rise off of him either - not just yet, anyway. Her violet gaze bore into his emerald one - although, for once, not in a glower nor look of anger. "Admit it!"

| DO YOU REMEMBER? LOOK AT ME AND ALL THE THINGS WE SAID WE'D BE. WE BEAT THE HOUNDS, WE PUSHED THE ODDS. WE'D TAKE IT ALL - WE HAD THE CAUSE. WITH YEARS TO BURN AND YEARS TO TRASH, LIVIN' LIFE BASED ON FLASH. BUT SOMEHOW REACHING FOR THE STARS, I THINK WE WENT A BIT TOO FAR.
Everything outside of this single moment had faded into obscurity. The crowds in the background were a distant memory, even the pokemon that had led to this event all felt so far away from him now. This whatever this was felt like a break. A break from the training, a break from the fear, and a break from the regrets he'd accumulated over the course of his adventures.
Here in this moment he wasn't the forgotten son of the Slade family, He wasn't the student with a dream that most saw as unattainable He wasn't the trainer that people sought solely for battle.
No high horses, and no airs, and for once he was okay with that. Just being Azad.
She made him feel something that eluded him for years on end. She made him feel... safe.
He doesn't know what to say and maybe there isn't anything to say. Enjoying this moment silently would have been enough, but nature had other plans. Making itself known the sea would crash down on the two warm waters submerging them both attempting to drag the duo from the bank pulling at the researcher. As they're submerged she clings to the silver-haired boy and despite his earlier hesitance to even hold her hand the man immediately wraps his arms around her locking his rival against himself hands clasped around the woman's back keeping her tight to his own body refusing to let the waves take this new light he'd found. When the water recedes once again the two are left on the beach soaked to the brim. The sea deciding to take the majority of the sand with it. With the threat of danger gone the fighter sits up no longer needing that embrace leaving the man wishing the water had never left, still his grip hesitantly loosens as she finds her way up still plastered on top of him
A smile more honest than any he'd seen from the woman before was focused on him alone now fully revealing that light of hers hidden underneath layers and layers of other emotions. He'd seen glimmers of it in passing prior, but now here it was in all its glory open and visible to Azad alone. Honestly, nothing felt more perfect or right as the world did right now for the man this was perfect. She of course speaks up first proclaiming her victory over him. a finger lightly grazing his forehead as she remained comfortably on top of him. As she lightly prods he can't help but think it funny that they end up like this. After all, they'd first met in a position not unlike it.
If only she knew how right she was.
He halfway sits up pushing an arm behind him shifting ever so slightly if only to meet her eyes evenly. His gaze unfaltering that stupid honest smile of his remaining just a prevalent as it'd had for the last five minutes or so if anything it was slightly more serene. "Fine...Fine.. I admit it."He'd bring his free hand up to her cheek using a single finger to lift a clinging few specks of sand off her face Emerald and Violet clashing....or rather melding peacefully for once. Inches away from her face once again, his heartbeat clocking triple time now he'd speak once again, calling their match.
"Vivian, you beat me."
And much like his feelings for the woman, he was okay with it.

clever as the devil but twice as pretty ____________________
Even if she wanted to stop smiling - honestly, she couldn't. That dumb, happy smile that spread across her lips just wouldn't falter nor go away. She wasn't sure how he managed to get this...close to her. Most typically assumed she didn't have a softer side - hell, even she was beginning to believe such a thing. And perhaps that was why she genuinely wanted to keep on hating him? Maybe that was why a part of her refused to believe this was happening? No one got to see past her usual attitude - no one bothered to...Ugh - none of this made sense. And as much as she wanted to get frustrated and just push the man away, she...couldn't.
Not right now.
Not when he was looking at her like this - not when she couldn't stop smiling like a damned fool. She could still feel the warmth from his embrace, and from where her fingertips lightly grazed across his forehead, warmth seeped through them. He leaned upwards, and suddenly, their eyes bore into one another. It was different than back in the cave - or even earlier today, where each time she stared into each others eyes, she felt nothing but anger. Now though...? It was confusing - frustrating. The way his own hand brushed delicately against her cheek, making her chest tighten in a painfully pleasant way. She wasn't sure what he was doing to her - if he was even doing anything to her. But, the way just being this close made her feel...It wasn't bad. And she didn't, nor couldn't, truly hate it.
His words brought her back from her confusing thoughts as she blinked once - twice. Had...he just admitted to her being the victor? Just a little while ago, she would've held such a thing over his head like his life depended on it. She would've made him regret ever admitting such a thing - and she wouldn't have cared all the while. But, now? She only chuckled, smile not fading in the least. "Of course I did," her words retained the same arrogance they always did - but, they were lighthearted. No nagging smirk, no condescending demeanor, not even an insult followed after them. And for a moment, she fell silent, lost in the depths of his eyes, unsure what to say - what to do. They were...close- really close, to where she could feel the warmth of his breath against her face. And for a moment, an actually embarrassed, perhaps even flustered look crossed her mind.
"Er...Azad...?" She questioned, a bit breathless for a moment. It was frustrating that someone like her, always so sure of herself and unafraid of who'd get hurt by her words, felt so damned tongue tied. She hesitated for several moments, before, finally, opened her mouth to say something - well, until another voice spoke up.
"Good job, you two!"
Vivian tensed, nearly jumping like a frightened cat as she slowly looked up, a man wearing glasses standing before them. He...wasn't the best looking person - but, was kinda adorable in a weird, gross way? If not very..er, awkward. The brunette frowned, as though irritated...which wasn't that hard, given that she was always irritated about something. But, this time, it seemed she was genuinely irate that they'd been interrupted. "Who the hell are you?" The female asked bluntly and aggressively, glowering daggers at the man, who only held up his hands in defense.
"Y-you forgot about me already? I-I'm the mission giver! I just wanted to say that you guys looked so romantic! I collected so much info!"
Vivian paused, slowly looking back down at Azad before back up at the nerdy man before them several times. "Mission...?" Slowly, things connected one way or another, and she could feel her cheeks growing darker in what appeared to be the slightest traces of an actual blush. She...had forgotten about the mission - about the date, in all honesty. And she wasn't entirely sure what to feel about that.
As though that softer persona of hers never existed, she partially sprung from off of Azad, arms crossed as she looked away with a little 'tch', "of course it did. It was easy - the mission wasn't that hard, and dating itself isn't much harder." She shrugged casually, as though what had occurred between them had been nothing more than just...well - a mission. Her smile was gone, and any warmth she showed the man had faded as though it had never existed. In the inside, her chest squeezed almost painfully - but, she refused to acknowledge the strong, urging feelings she'd felt only moments ago.
'It was all just for the mission,'

His heart was about to free itself violently from his ribcage as the two sat simply staring into each others eyes. He'd thought things like this feelings like this only occurred in the cinema, behind a screen that barely mirrored the real world. But here he was positively and absolutely lost in Vivian's eyes. He could feel his ears go scarlet that stupid smile managing to remain just as wide as she confirmed her victory for the second time, something if anyone else had done would irritate him to no end.
He felt as vulnerable as she did, not knowing what to do never having been in a situation like this not knowing what exactly he wanted to do other than to sit here and just be with this person who brought him such a wide range of emotions. She'd say his name no louder than a whisper as he prepared to go with the flow of things the for once in his life. He leaned in closer seconds away from doing something that could possibly change the flow of their entire relationship only for...
"Good job, you two!"
what the fuck.
A more than annoyed gaze would fall on whoever decided to interrupt. Startled Vivian would back away almost immediately started. He'd reach for her hand almost unconsciously only to move too slow his fingers grazing the top of her hand before she was too far out of his reach. His heart sinking with every step the girl took. Before he could speak up Vivian in her surprise had already asked would ask the important questions, and after a moment he'd recognize the intruder. Knowing exactly who he was didn't really ease his annoyance by any means, but it at least gave the man a purpose.
As the woman quickly returned to her usual persona speaking on the ease of the mission he'd remain on the ground heart tensing in his chest every time the word 'mission' was mentioned. Part of him wanted to believe that it was just that, a mission. That everything he'd felt and everything they'd gone through was just a method of coping, but he'd learned better over the course of this excursion and he refused to lose his revelation, not after just coming to terms with his feelings.
He wouldn't let that piece of happiness he found just slip away, not yet.
"The funds have already been transferred to your accounts and the remainder of your rewards have been drop-"
Hey, give us a second."
The sopping wet trainer would push himself off the sand walking towards the girl grabbing her hand hoping to pull her away from the quest giver if only for a moment.
He knew she wouldn't really appreciate his approach, but he had something to say, something important and so any protests she had would be fully ignored until they were far enough away from the round idiot who'd so casually pulled them out of that temporary paradise.
Once he had the moment to say something it seemed as if he couldn't say anything, but he didn't have time to falter and so he'd start speaking.
"Look, so this whole thing is stupid. AND by this whole thing I don't mean the date thing I mean the mission thing, even if the mission thing is the date thing and well I don't really know, but now I have this thing in my chest and I don't really, fuck this is so out of character and I'm sorry I'm fucking dumb and I know i'm supposed to be this strong thing and I am this strong thing, but you do this thing that makes me stronger, and weaker, but it's not a bad thing it's just a thing and look I really I know you don't do the feelings thing and I don't either I just..."
regardless of how dumb or stupid it sounded he'd continue to ramble not exactly knowing how to get what he was trying to say into words uncharacteristically stumbling on his words until finally ending on at least some aspect of what he wanted to say.
What that was back there and today I know it was dumb and corny and whatever, but it wasn't..." he'd pause for a moment making sure he was succinct. "It wasn't just a mission. For me it wasn't."

Despite telling herself, over and over, that it was merely a mission, she...just couldn't stop thinking about how close they had been to...Just the thought made her tense, her face feeling warm and heart aching in sheer frustration. Why was this type of shit always so...damned confusing and frustrating?! She found herself glaring at the mission maker even more as she realized just what he had possibly interrupted - a chance that she might've never let herself have again. Still...what was done was done - there was no use in crying over it. Besides, Azad more than likely felt the same way - only it for the mission. And, despite the irritation that tugged at her heart, she was couldn't convince herself otherwise.
She found herself sighing, even if she knew should've been pleased at the otherwise pathetically easy mission and cash earned. Geez...what was wrong with her? The brunette was snapped from her thoughts when a larger hand had suddenly grabbed her own - a hand that felt all too familiar. She blinked, taking in a sharp breath and looking up at Azad with a confused look. "What're you-hey...Hey!" She snapped at the silvery haired male as he began to lead them about away from the client. Despite her irate tone, she, surprisingly enough, made no real effort to push him away - she was...a bit curious in what it was he had to say - in such a way that she could feel her heart beating wildly in her own chest.
When they finally stopped, she stared at him rather intently, arms crossed - an unsure look on her face despite her typical frown. "...Yeah?" She ushered quietly - quieter than she had hoped, it was almost like a whisper.
And then, he began to speak - well...ramble, more like it. For most others, the girl would've surely lost her temper and either told them 'to get lost' or impatiently demand them to hurry up. But...surprisingly, she couldn't bring herself to snap at the man - not just yet, anyway. If anything, hearing him ramble about was so odd to her - he was usually posed, remaining calm in any situation - remaining calm even when dealing with her. But this? It was so different that...honestly, it was almost a bit adorable. He looked so frazzled, so unsure what to say...Instead of finding such a thing as weak or pointless, she couldn't help but feel the corners of her lips twitching upwards into a smile - reminiscent of the one she bore mere minutes again.
Finally, it seemed the man got his bearings to utter something out that actually made sense. And yet, she almost wish he hadn't. The brunette visibly winced at his words, her previously amused, light look quickly becoming...regretful, almost. 'It wasn't just a mission.' was what he said...And she truly wanted to believe that. She wanted it to be true for the both of them.
'He's lying,' the negative thoughts sounded in her head, 'they always lie.' The girl hesitated for a moment. "I..." Her voice was quiet - soft, much unlike her typically rough tone. All she had to say was that she agreed - that she felt the same way. She didn't want to mess this up.
...But, since when had that ever been the way she did things?
Vivian turned her back to him, arms crossing and head tilted away. "Sorry, idiot. All this was was a quick way for me to grab some cash - that's it. That whole thing was just-" Her almost cruel tone faltered briefly, but, she didn't dare stop, "an act. We had to convince the dumbass client somehow, right?" She shrugged, her heart clenching painfully.
"Did you actually think I'm like that? Really? Pathetic! I'll just do whatever's necessary to get what I need. Even if its a bit...embarrassing." She let out a laugh. However, much unlike their joyous moment spent together, her laugh was hollow - cruel even.

He'd bared his heart out, perhaps not in the most composed or beautiful way, but he'd definitely put his heart out there for the girl to read and do with as she pleased, and so when she responded how she did he had no one to blame but himself. Each word was like a hit to the gut but halfway through he'd steel himself against the pain. Any feelings that he'd had open where shoved back into his soul chest so violently and hurriedly that the man would seem just as off put, but ultimately less hurt.
"Please dont."
He wouldn't give any response to her claims of doing whatever she needed to get what she wanted, and her talk about whatever was necessary, if only because he didn't believe it...or at least he didn't want to. That said he didn't have a box to argue on, any feelings in question, were hers to work with, and for once he didn't have an argument at the ready even if he wished he did.
With the wind knocked out of him feeling like an idiot for too many reasons to count the man would pass the girl placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'm heading back to the pokemon center. You can finish things here, after all the mission was too easy for you, right?"
He wouldn't wait for a response the sopping wet trainer would call Fai who after giving a quick goodbye Asta would trot up to the trainer, displeased with the new air surrounding him. There was no doubt the walk back to the pokemon center would be a quiet one.
------------------- 2 hours later.
It was now night, and after having a few hours to think things over he was just as hurt, but not quite as broken as before. Taking a shower and clearing his head had really calmed the researcher down. He was currently at the ferry stop after cleaning his gear and more over himself, mood and vibe of Tanba really only made him feel bad, it was time this little vacation of his come to an end after all there was training to do. Fai on his shoulder would simply watch his trainer quietly. In the last two hours he hadn't said much or at least not to him. There'd been no punishment for his antics, but there'd been no laugh either still the eevee felt uneasy about the whole event especially when it seemed like it was going so well all things considered.
The eevee thoughts were also on the goodbye an hour prior the pokemon's hazel eyes glancing at the empty sixth slot on the trainer's belt now. It was a sad goodbye sure, but they all understood and respected Azad's decision and it'd be the only closure Fai would receive concerning the day. ------------------
1 hour prior.
After showering the man had taken a seat at the desk in his rented room surrounded by various pieces of crumpled parchment. Just minutes earlier he explained what and why he was doing what he did to his team, and honestly everyone even the pokemon it affected most understood it, and so they'd all say their goodbyes and their farewells while Azad attempted to write. Having finally decided on an acceptable note. He'd call as his pokemon back to their pokeballs before dropping the pokeball and the note off at the front counter for the head nurse to deliver upon Vivian's check out of the pokemon center.
------------------
The Present.
And so with that done the ferry was just about pulling into port with his work here done and memories made for now, the trainer would prepare to embark back to the mainland to continue his journey.

PHARAOH LEAP. Vivian,
You're strong. Of this there is no question. It's because of this that I'm entrusting you with my trusted friend. After all, you're both so similar. They also serve as a gift for a date I'll never forget. In the moment I wasn't clear, and perhaps it's because my being around you always affects me in ways I can never predict. But allow me to be clear here, regardless of your earlier response. You are the most aggravating person I have ever met. You challenge me to do things differently, you go against the grain at every turn, we argue non-stop you're haughty, mean and honestly every time I see you I want to knock you down a peg.
But even so, I like you.
I like you more than any other person I met on this journey. And even if you abhor me, if you think I'm faking I don't give a shit, because I'm still going to like you. Because I'm just as stupid, selfish, as you are if not more so. And even if it was just a mission for you these stupid complicated feelings in my chest are real and I wont run from them.
Be safe and I hope Varus treats you well.
With too many stupid aggravating feelings, -Azad Slade MADE BY ★MEULK

She hurt him. It wasn't the first time she had hurt someone. And it sure as hell wouldn't be the last time. But, that fact and that alone stood. And for some odd reason, it affected her - a lot. For the first time in a long time, she felt bad - she felt horrible. Especially given that she had lied. Why didn't she just...say something - say anything else but that? Maybe she had thought she'd be doing him a favor by pushing him away? Maybe it was just easier to do so? Maybe she refused to accept the fact that someone had broken past that damn wall she'd put up? She wasn't sure - and she was positive it didn't matter at this moment either. When he passed by her...when a hand that was once warm rested upon her shoulder - when words that were once so content whispered by her ear, this agonizing feeling in her chest only grew. 'Don't...say it like that. That's not what I meant - don't say it like that!' She screamed at herself in her mind, but, a solemn, quiet, "right," only left her lips. It was too late though - Azad was gone. And she was left there, alone on the beach - the beach where she had genuinely smiled for what felt like the first time in forever. For a few moments, she stood there, simply staring out at the setting sun. Asta, a bit disappointed at his newfound friend's departure, returned to the trainer's side. He could easily sense the thick emotions that radiated off of her - emotions that he hadn't seen the female show in forever. And so, he waddled forward, resting his head against her leg - something Vivian personally appreciated, even if she said nothing, excluding a soft, whispered, "I...fucked up, Asta."2 hours later
The return to the pokecenter had been painfully quiet. And even while there, nothing had changed much. She felt angry, upset, irritated, pissed off, upset...And she hated this. Why was she wasting energy on things like this instead of focusing on her sole goal - getting stronger? It was frustrating. But, it didn't help her case any - it didn't make her feel anything less. All she could think about was what happened - how happy she had felt...and how she ruined it. It replayed over and over, each time bringing a new swarm of emotions with it...and she had no idea how to deal with them. The shower lasted longer than she had expected, and even then, it didn't changed how she felt. Eventually, after getting dressed, she left her rented room. As she walked, with Asta by her side, she...couldn't deny the slight hope she felt that she'd catch glimpse of a silver haired man. She found herself looking over her shoulder or squinting at various individuals as she made her way through the halls of the pokemon center - secretly hoping she'd catch a glimpse of him. She winded up disappointed. Just before she left the pokemon center for good though, she was stopped by a nurse. "Oh, miss! You're Vivian, yes?" "Yeah - why?" Her voice was sharper than she had expected it to. But, the woman only smiled, first handing her a note. The brunette quirked a brow, but, read it...And when she did, that familiar, gut wrenching pain came back - as well as a wave of other emotions. At first - anger. Did this bastard really write her a letter just to tell her how annoying she was to him? Before she could blow up and crumple the letter though, it turned...bittersweet? And honestly, she wished it hadn't. Why couldn't he just lie to her - tell her he hated her, and get it over with then and there? It would've made things so much...easier. The nurse then handed her a pokeball - the one she'd been gifted with, and...she wasn't sure what expression she made - she wasn't sure what had came to her eyes - or rather from them. Because, before she knew it, the head nurse was staring at her with a concerned expression. "Miss Vivian, are you alright?" "....No."
With that simple, curt reply, she abruptly turned, still clutching the gifted pokeball close to her, and leaving without saying another word. 'Dammit...I fucked up...'[googlefont=Poiret One][googlefont=VT323]
